Imagine making your £675 speeding ticket into a £11,000 one because you wanted to try to prove the judge wrong 💀
Lmao 🫠🫠🫠
I mean that is the logic of people with alot of money
It was $10,425 added to the original $675. Which is what they deserved for being a pompous arse.
It’s ridiculous 😂
Arrogance at its finest
12 in an 8 zone??!! These racers were out of control! That is reckless!
So if you ran you could get a ticket🤔
With wooden wheels on a cobblestone. That must have been a joyride to remember
Exceeding the speed limit by 100% in Denmark, the police can seize your car on the spot. Even foreigners, we just had a Norwegian get his Lamborghinemaschine taken last year.
I remember that. And wasn't it a rental as well? Or borrowed at least. Anyway good times
@@Tycellno it was his, he's was driving it home. That's also an awful law, I like the Finns approach much better.
And he just bought it too, like within the same week
He bought it the same day, sent back to Norway the same day, and got caught doing 224km/h in a 110km/h zone. The car was auctioned off, and all the money has gone to the government
Where I live in the USA, if you are going over 15 MPH (roughly 24 kmph) over the posted speed limit, an officer can give you a felony, get your license suspended, and impound your car.
Dude paid 12k to avoid jail and keep his license. Money really does make the world go round.
Money talks, BS walks
12k is nothing when ur comes to freedom & avoiding points
@@X11CHASE yea that's kinda the issue
@@X11CHASE it's almost as if rich assholes can abuse the system by just paying their way through
@ana4rae yea a ticket is cool but avoiding jail time? That's a glorified bribe.

best person to exist
this guy motivates me to be more consistent

this is the comment I keep comin back to
How are you so fast?!
13:19 I remember that one episode in Top Gear when someone got a speeding ticket for doing like 210+ in a 65 MPH zone in a "Bugatti 2 door". That segment stuck with me to this day.
And the ticket was for like $500 or something hilarious like that
@@iamvaskethat’s crazy 😅
I believe it was a Finnish poker player Patrik Antonius. In Finland he would have been fined hundreds of thousands 😅
Someone got stopped in a Koenigsegg going 240mph in Texas. Worlds fastest speeding ticket. No idea how much the ticket was.
In tbe Guinness Worldd Records book sometime around 2010 i believe
Love to see James solo riffing straight into the camera again. I miss Up to Speed.
they need to bring it back!
With blond tips and all. What a girlyboy.
Same!!!
i miss the old donut, with all the shows they had
I did not, this was kind of boring...
When you're going over 100 mph I don't think your speedometer not working is a very strong excuse.
"why's everyone else driving so slow?: :D
While technically the speedometer is less accurate in higher speeds (really no need to make sure the calibrations are spot-on for +200kmh speeds), it doesn't matter. Going twice the speed of other motorists should give hint to reduce speed or face a very possible legal nightmare.
imagine being in a car chase going 8 mph 💀
How out of shape was that officer? I've seen cyclists (purely powered by their legs) getting speed tickets for going 50 in a 30 zone.
@@noseboop4354 Very different bike back then (considering the time it even could have been a Penny-farthing or a Velocipede. And even if it was a pedal/chain bike, it still would not have had gears or pneumatic tires).
@@noseboop4354 😂😂😂😂
@noseboop4354 Imagine if the officer's bike was a single speed. Like take a mountain bike, think of gear 1. Guys legs going 100 rpm to go 3 mph.😂
Imagine a cop chasing a chicken for going 8mph over the speed limit
As a Canadian I can confirm that we do not call jail the “goose trap”
He said goose coop, but we don't call it that either.
But, as a Manitoban I can confirm we do have a Polar bear jail. 😂
@@jordancochran7979 well now you do.... Canadian jail is now known as "goose coop"
Ya I have worked in a jail for 5 years in CSC Never once heard this
Of course you don't; you guys just let all those asshole geese fly free to shit on everything!
11:31 That would not buy you a G wagon in Finland as those go for over 350k €.
As a Finn, I love hearing James pronounce Finnish names.
In most cases, punishable by fine basically means legal for rich people. So I like finland's approach
Intriguing to see how serious the penalties can be for speeding, especially in places like Finland where fines are based on income. Safe driving is essential.
speeding isnt inherently unsafe.
I speed everywhere at all times and I have not crashed yet. So far it seems pretty safe, done it all my life.
@@Weeblickerspeeding isn’t inherently unsafe but the people that speed often don’t give a damn about others safety regardless.
@@obeseperson Ton of people do drugs all their lives without dying. Weird, huh?
9:46 I actually love this. This makes so much sense
nope, it doesn't make sense... lets say that Jeff Bezos (the world's richest man) was caught speeding in Finland then his speeding ticket would be $0, Jeff is the richest person alive but his income every yr is $0 and that is why he doesn't legally need to pay taxes...
Have to disagree. The law only matters when applied equally. Escalating penalties for repeat offenders I can agree with, fining someone more just because they make more money is not fair.
The Finnish day fines are applied equally, it's generally their daily income divided by two per day fine. The more over the limit, the more day fines you'll receive. Therefore, the impact is the same for someone who makes $200 a day as it is for someone making $2000 a day. Meanwhile, a flat $500 ticket will impact someone making $36k a year a lot harder than someone making $360k a year.
I could've sworn they had already done an episode about expensive traffic tickets
same lol
so its not just me. couldnt find it anywhere tho?
same i remember something like that
They did, or at least it was a big part of one of their videos.
As a Canadian, I have never heard jail called “the goose coop.”
cause it's not called that lol
Me either, but I will now
How can you say you never heard it called the Goose Coop when you heard it here?
As a fellow Canadian... I can confirm that no one calls jail a "goose coop").
As another Canadian, I second this. Never heard jail called the goose coop lol
I see Kansas has officially moved

In Canada they do that a 40km/h over.
Canada impounds, not repossesses it; you get it back at the impound yard. In Denmark, they own it; you get it back by outbidding everyone at the auction and buying it.
@@Cloud30000 not true. There have been many impounded and crushed.
@@Elmospiece bro they ain't out here crushing cars for going 40 over
@@ericmarciniak3541 really? Because there’s been many cases of convictions of street racing where they confiscated and crushed cars. Not going to sit here and argue with people who can read articles themselves so keep arguing your opinion without facts. Not saying they do it with every conviction but our system here is very pick and choose on what the consequences are.
More unhinged than normal? I'm here for it.
I'm like 30 seconds in and I know Finland is going to mentioned. I also know that there will be so many people out there commenting, who do not understand day fines. THEY ARE THE HOURS YOU WORK! If you make any sort of salary, you get fined for 50% of your pay for a number for some days so for serious violations with a car. The money has nothing to with it! It's just the hours of the day you spend working halved! Minor speeding and other minor violations just come with a fixed 70€ fine.
Also sounds like a pretty cool system compared to fixed fine systems.
Love the call out on Risto’s ticket. It was the first one I thought of when I saw this video.
Robert still has the car. And we were headed to Wichita didn’t even make it to the car meet lol.
Fun fact 1 British shilling is worth 5 Canadian cents.
Also in canada our highest posted speed is 120 kph. That motorbike was doing 263 kph.
From Canada and have never heard of the goose coop but I'll refer to it as that from now on
This video reminds me of the old Up To Speed videos. Which I’ve been missing for quite some time. More of this pleeeeeease!!
Poor R33 😢
I still have it. It didn't get crushed. All the news stations got that part wrong the car wasn't illegal i moved from FL to ks and the tag expired and I didn't register it in ks yet at the time.

Donut always with the W
Interesting fact in Ontario Canada if you are cought doing 50km over the posted speed limit they automatically classify it as "street racing" which you lose your license for I think 30 days and upwards of a $10,000 ticket not counting the cost of towing or impounding of the vehicle. I knew a girl that was cought doing something like 100km/hour in a 40 while being over the legal limit and she got over $18,000 in fines plus the cost of a tow and impound fees
So just don’t pull over
I don't know if you will ever read this but,
ever since Top Gear (original Trio) was cancelled, The Grand Tour was created and that whole deal, I have felt a little lost.
It felt like an era came to an end, which it did for sure. But I was left behind all lost.

"I LOVE DONUTS!!!!" -- Homer Simpson
Finland sounds fair. Putting it on my list of places of interest for sure.
Well this country does not like you to drive any other car than base model Corolla. Atleast our police is likeable. They are not pointing you with the gun.
the problem is that druggies etc don't have income and it takes quite a bit to rack up to get locked up, so you can rack up driving without license, under influence stuff and such quite a bit before you get actually forced to stop the behavior for a while. I think the record for that is for some guy with 110+. like, they don't have money at that point and are just on social security on base money or not even controlling that themselves, so you can't control them with money and they'd rather not lock people up since it's expensive too and the crimes they do are on the low pathetic side of things.
@@kimreinikainen well that is the best car in the world.
@@sadmanh0 that is true. However if you like different cars you have to pay a lot more when buying and keeping that car, not to mention anything about fuel prices. If you want new E-class benz you have to pay 100k for the top not AMG models. And Portofino costs 500K. One of the reasons why our average age of cars is the oldest in Europe.
As an Finnish, I have to say that fines that are based on your income are insane and just ok at the same time. OK is that you dont lose your car. Insane is that I my self have had couple tickets over 2k in euros. Both was completely my fault, first was 188kmph on a 120kmph motorway as I was late from my friens wedding. Second was 266kmph on a 120kmph when I first tried my then new motorcycle. Both my own stupidity. Lost my license both times for 6 months, but who needs a license to drive anyway? Just use your friends cars and don’t do stupid things that get you pulled over while you are suspended 😂
Robert Bell still has the R33 it is in his shop in KC. We do a lot of car club events together. Still one hell of a mechanic.
Leaving this here so I can come back and look at more humorless Canadians informing everyone that jail is not, in fact, called the "Goose Coop"
Wrong. Finnish speeding tickets are based on income AND speed. It's based on daily fines and 6€ is lowes you can get. For small exceedings you can minor offense ticket, those range from 20 to 200€
So lets say you earn 3000€/month and you get 20 days the ticket will be 900€. If you drive even faster but earn 2100€/month (and you get 30 days) it's gonna be same 900€.
If you are unemployed (0 income) those fines are based on the minumum of 200€.
You are also able to pay these over longer period of time without extra fees. You can apply for even a year payment plan.
Sounds like speedy Finns need to hire good accountants and park the bulk of their income where the Finnish government can't see it.
@@bwofficial1776 yeah, or just stop speeding. If you want to zoom zoom go to track 😂

So happy to see Bell on here. I used to work with him in FL. Before the skyline he had a 1000hp mustang.
I know a guy... he was stationed in Italy when they installed speed cameras on the main highway through Napoli. In the 2 years the cameras were operational, he accrued 62 speeding tickets. The problem happened when the ticket issuing system had a serious backlog and the tickets all came in 3 bundles, with most already being past due with double fines. All in all, over 75k euro didn't get paid because he transferred back to the states.
The most expensive speeding ticket I ever got was ironically also the least over the limit. 77mph in a 75. My 83 in a 45 ticket, the most over the limit I've been caught doing, cost less. Thanks, tiny Texas speedtrap town.
I'm surprised the margin of error on their equipment is tight enough for 2mph over to even be proof of speeding!
Pulling someone over for 2 mph over is straight-up lame.
I love james saying bern to lausanne it almost sound better than the correct prononciation❤big love from fribourg Switzerland 🥰i love you guys
Not-so-fun fact: Virginia’s law also says anything over 85mph is reckless; regardless of the posted speed limit. This trumps the 20-over rule if you’re in a 70mph zone.
Donut is the Buzzfeed list channel for cars now. Not sure how I feel like.
It's popcorn content. Not satisfying, but you still eat it by the handful.
Well, channels need to make money in order to make some more expensive videos to be produced.
You can't expect every video to be amazing car transformations with tens of thousands of dollars. The channel grew, they have more employees, they need incomes and to manage costs. Nothing surprising there !
james is the type to get an expensive speeding ticket
I was impressed that they zoomed in on the actual Williamsburg, KS exit on I-35. I know that junction.
Too bad they didnt actually get the info on the car. Was never crushed, and he still owns it to this day. Over at RB'S adrenaline factory in KCMO
8:25 I actually met Robert Bell at a car show a while back, he got the R33 back and painted it some sort of chalkboard material, then drew Godzilla destroying Japan on the side. Sick ass car. I remember the katana shifter vividly.

9:55 that's literally the point. Laws do not apply to the wealthy when it simply turns into a matter of income rather than liability.
I don't remember who said it, but it was along the lines of:
If you're rich, a ticket only means it's legal for a fee.
Ikr. I'd love to see an argument against proportional fines - it's a fantastic idea. Especially when they're like Finland and factor in income earned overseas.
@@CerberusTenshi That applies to literally everybody.
@@Reddsoldier It's a horrible idea. All it does it create an incentive for the government to create stricter laws that don't actually do anything but be a means of stealing people's money.

James looking healthy and happy 🔥🔥
After years of working traffic in TN, some officers never stop a car unless it's exceeding 20mph over the posted limit. Needless to say, officers are still given plenty of opportunity to stop cars. The bonus of allowing a 20mph buffer, people rarely want to argue about travelling that much faster than the speed limit and other drivers.
I also support that fines should be based on income. and even better on net worth. Because some rich people, like Arnold Schwarzenegger and the late Steve Jobs, have/had a yearly income of 1 Dollar. So their fines would be less than a cent.
Fixed fine amounts make a crime with a fine only a crime for the poor
Exactly. Where I live its 250$ the second you’re over 10mph over the limit. Which is wild because the actual limit in which you can be pulled over is 7 over or under the limit depending on circumstances. So basically if you get caught doing like 15 over the limit you could be paying a ticket close to like 500$ which can be like a third of someone’s rent. Comparatively if you run a red light it’s only 80$ for some reason which imo running a red light is way more dangerous than speeding. Also speed cameras are usually put in lower income areas sometimes as a way to subsidize infrastructure maintenance in higher income areas where they have higher taxes but lower population so the property tax isn’t enough to cover road costs and such. Super scummy.
In Finland doing that is a bit more difficult, you can't get our of paying taxes but you can reduce the amoung of pay but quite a margin. Same with these fines, it is not just your salary that is counted.

I once got a ticket in Québec (Canada). I was doing 140 kph in a 100 kph zone but being passed by local drivers. I was in an out-of-province registered vehicle.
The Sûreté du Québec officer berated me in French for a while, then took my documents to his cruiser to write the ticket. When he returned, he gave me my docs back with the ticket and in heavily accented English emphatically said " The speed limit is in KILOMETERS - not MILES!!!"
I deserved the ticket even though I was going with the flow of traffic. But his comment at the end was worth the price of admission... it was most 40 years ago and it STILL makes me chuckle...
You drove 40 kph over posted speed limit, but you just go with the flow of traffic. Police single you out because you were different (out of province), life are so unfair.
There was once (I think in Germany) an agricultural tractor getting a ticket for driving 200km/h instead of 90. After a long dispute it turned out there was a bike going that speed past the tractor but the radar took a photo of the tractor instead of the bike

Wow this concept has for sure not been used in a video in this channel before
About 15 years ago, I was letting my motorcycle stretch its legs in the middle of the night in BFE, little did I know a cop clocked me while fueling behind our local fire department. By the time I made it into town there were about 20 police cars trying to block the roads off...after passing a few doing the normal speed limit I stopped and asked what was going on...they were looking for me. To shorten the rest, I was let off with a warning and forever grateful and never did that on a public road again. "Thank you for stopping, also the speed limit is 45, not 176. Stay alive" -Officer Awesome.
