Looks like Lamborghini are now taking us both to court 🙌 we in it together now 🤷♂️
Was waiting for this collab 🥹
Hi Mat! Looking forward to see your new Ferrari with Toyota parts! :D
I'll make a video just to get on that action
Made it on donut, living the dream!!
If it was Ferrari, you'd have already been sued but Lamborghini is super chill, they don't care
It's the luxury tax that translates as "you can afford a hundred thousand+++ vehicle, so you can afford this" which is akin to the fine system for traffic offenses in many countries in Europe.
Really? I know Finland does it, but who else? Definitely not here in the Netherlands or in Germany

Big up to speed vibes from this video. When it comes to automotive history I prefer hearing it from James. Love his take on things and the way he tells a story.
You guys should built a car from scratch/ parts from other cars. A Donut rat rod or just a regular car. That would make a sick series. ❤ Love your videos. 💯💯💯
I second this.
I support this!
Algorithm do your thing!
This would be so sick
Whilst this is a great idea I think you’re underestimating just how difficult of a task it would be, figuring out the wiring alone using a bunch of mish mash parts would be insanely difficult if even possible.
James saved so much money buying cheaper parts that he had enough money for that gold grille he is working on, the Post Malone transformation has begun
I was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else noticed the gold teeth lol
I thought I was crazy when I noticed it.
Thought it was a KB homage tooth 😅
"what are y'all gonna do with its eyes" is one of the best moments in Donut history.
Great energy man - back to you in the old school vids from back in the day. btw, we miss you in West LA! More vids like this please.
That maseratti joke about holding value actually made me laugh, thank you
And their build quality!
Imagine that guy who's thinking about buying a Maserati and just need that extra push hahahah
Ya that comment about exceptional build quality had me snorting and almost pushing hot coffee out my nose!😂
My coworker owns a Maserati and it's in the shop every other month for the last 2 years.
They make pretty cars. Not good cars. Pretty cars. See also Alfa Romeo and Lancia.
I love when companies do this honestly. It makes it so much easier to get parts on the cheap. They've been doing this forever. My dad taught me this over 30 years ago.
What's the easiest way to know what cars share parts?

As a Viper owner, the fact that they're parts bin cars is awesome. It's saved me so much money 😂 I had to do an idler pulley, same one on my '03 Durango. $30. I have to do front hub and bearings, only $50/each
yeah as long as you know you can save quite a bit of dough, it sounded on avg like 10x less
Kinda cool to have you mention the Eagle Talon in this video since I only recently came across your channel and it gave me the itch to start trying to restore the '98 Talon Esi that has been sitting in my back yard for years. Knowing which parts are interchangeable from other brands is gonna be a huge help with that since the brand had been dead for 25 years!
Theres lots of resources on dsm tuners. If you document the build on there let me know
James bro… this gave me Up to Speed vibes man. Go ahead and pump one out 😢 please

Perhaps unsubbing will do the trick. We should all give it a try

At the end of the day, all these parts do not affect the speed or the ride quality.

Haha well done Jeff!!!
That’s a great way to please rich people
So go buy it at the luxury price and feel fancy.
Lincoln Versailles the grandfather of cheap car with expensive parts bolted on.
Always thought carbon fiber stickers were rice, not anymore now!!!!
I honestly wish manufacturers would share more parts. Not necessarily for high end flagship models, but for the more common stuff, it would push prices lower, help them make more profit and massively improve maintainability. I really wish there was one car out there made only of off-the-shelf parts and completely open source. There are a few concepts, but no production cars yet.

Shit like this always has been so interesting to me it’s sick seeing all these examples compiled
I always found this aspect of manufacturing interesting. I use VW Golf GTI Spark Plugs in my Audi A4 S-Line. I would always recommend cross referencing lower brands parts when shopping for pricier makes. Jaguar- Ford. Cadillac - Chevy. Bentley/Audi/Lambo - VW, etc.
Audi/VW loves to do this
My cousins skoda fabia even has some parts (from factory) that have the audi logo on it.
I love this, I work at a parts store and this is my curiosity explained!
"Sorry, we don't carry those parts... Hang on, how much did you say you were going to pay for it? Give me a moment actually, there might still be some in the back"
Having looked into it with a friend, the Viper steering rack seems to be very similar, but not identical to the Dakota rack. Pretty sure it's mostly the same, but with a few changes to make it fit the Viper's wider track width. Which would make it a parts bin special within a parts bin special.
This is my favorite Donut ep so far!

For sure, nothing helps me fall asleep better than having someone yell at me for 15 minutes.
I worked in engineering for 10 years on an assembly line. What most people don't realize about car manufacturers is that they almost exclusively assemble parts bought from suppliers, and they all have a finite choice of suppliers. That includes engine blocks in most cases (ok high end cars might be different there). No car manufacturer is making bodywork, machining engine blocks, cam shafts, gearboxes, electronic components, cutting glass, molding plastics etc. It would be impossible. They just order from suppliers and put it all together. That's just what manufacturing is. 😂
Can we take the time to appreciate James doing a D-List style video? 🔥
As much as I like 'welcome to donutttt', it's not quite the same as 'd-d-d-D-list'
@@mikey_bbyeah that was nicer and I don't know I also liked the outros on the sponsored ads in their videos, don't know if you know what I mean.

And, the tranny came from Renault. Anything I missed?

Sensors and I believe the ECU are from a Corvette C4.
Airbag steering wheels are from Pontiac
Wing mirrors from Citroen
I think the headlight is from a Fiero or the motor of the headlight.
Idk, the Esprit from S1 to the V8 was just a bunch of parts strewn together. Trust me, there are a lot more borrowed parts in an Esprit. Don't get me wrong, I adore Esprits and I cannot wait to buy my own. I regret not buying an S350 last year when it came up.
@eis-bl4xw OH SNAP! I forgot about the steering wheel there, it was also used in early SATURNS (🤦).

Funny you mention the DB7. I remember climbing into one and immediately recognizing my RX-7’s ashtray. I pulled it out and there was the FD part number prefix.
How fun it that the bus in the picture for the meclaren F1 is from a company next to our town in germany! best content keep it up
Used to work in the parts dpt of several different new car dealerships, this happens ALOT! One time I had 4 EGR valves on my counter, a Daewoo, Gm, Isuzu, and a Honda, the Daweoo was cheapest, they ranged from $50 to over $200, Daweoo was the manufacturer btw.
I think James had a few special beverages with his breakfast lunch 😂
He said “I am not sure which one is the expensive one” absolutely started screaming 😂😂😂
That maseratti joke about holding value actually made me laugh, thank you. Mannn. James is great. Very informative, entertaining and funny as hack.
So much luxury it gives you a gold tooth
The db7 is actually sick, even had a t56 in the manual cars. Very misunderstood, surprised people never tuned the or added turbos the block and crank were special but rods, pistons amongst many other parts were essentially pulled from fords parts catalogue. Meaning that the specifications that were used to say, make the stock or even aftermarket forged pistons, did and do fit the V12 off the shelf. Crazy
Please make more of these. Super interesting
Day 376 of asking James to do an Up to speed on his Dad
I drove a Porsche 928S2 5 speed for 19 years. It had Volkswagen seat belt couplers....
The AC compressor was Sanden, which was also used on Honda Accords. The fuel injection was by Bosch, the transmission guts were Borg Warner, quite similar to the unit used on Corvettes.
This is not uncommon in the automotive industry. The Aston Martin Virage had Volkswagen Scirocco tail lights. And it actually looked right....
Lucky bastid. That 928S is on my short list.
Just wanted to say it’s awesome that the last season of Hi-Low made it to Forza horizon 5 I think it’s awesome how integrated you guys are w the car community
Bloody hilarious and informative as usual mate!
The mirrors from the Citroen CX is also one of the most famous reused parts, it can be found on cars like the 90s Astons, Lotus Esprit and the Jag XJ220.
Speaking to Maserati, the 3.0 F160 motor has its block cast at the same plant that does the 3.6 Pentastar. Its been confirmed that the timing cover, coolant crossover, upper oil pan, and even heads all swap directly between the two. The heads and conputer systems arent interchangeable (DI vs MPFI) but the fact that everything fits is crazy
More than crazy. Tell me that the crappy V6 Pentstar is base on the V8 itself. It's a cheap version too. Had fluid leaks in the Dodge Charger and everyone thought Quattroporte ?
The pentastar is not based on any v8, it's it's own thing. Also the 3.0 in the ghibli doesn't have the oil housing problems the pentastar has because it's in a different place (surprise surprise)
This is why Koenigsegg is so legendary. They make *everything* in house (minus parking brakes, wipers, and tires). Lots of work to do that but it pays off in the end
What's about it legendary? How it's paying off in the end? Do you believe they are producing for example their own AC module? Creating and designing (AND TESTING, CERTIFICATING) your own parts when You can just take trusted existing parts from the shelf is basically idiotic.
@@Zbykobyl Yep, all made in house. At least for the Agera RS. Idk about their newer models but yes they make literally everything except for what I listed in my comment. They don't go to suppliers for any parts of their cars.
To me, at least it hows they really take the time and care to make their cars the best they can be.
@@Ultra_64should take care of their customers when your spending a million!
@@Ultra_64 OK, and tell me - how does changing the rear reflector from Agera R (which was a reused part from Mazda RX-7) to a new part in Agera RS make their car better? The funniest thing is that They didn't even change the bumper, so they had to use cover caps with it to fit old holes - that IMO looks worse than in older Agera.
@@Zbykobyl In terms of utility and drivability, it does nothing because it's a rear reflector lol. But if you look at the bigger picture it makes the car more valuable and desirable. If I'm dropping 7-8 figures on a car I sure as hell want it to hold it's value.
cheers for the shout out for Mats channel..thats where i learned about the Hyper car rip off...but... i love your crazy US and of A style of delivery of the facts
Back when I drove my Boxster a part in the ignition went bad, the replacement Porsche part which was like a little rubber nipple , was $200 bucks…. Or I could grab the one from Audi for $5.

I've always enjoyed the fact that the Lamborghini Uraco, Jalpa and Lancia stratos has the same door handle and trunk/engine bay release as my Fiat X1/9.
The "whaddya gunna do with its eyes" had me rolling
I like when manufacturers do this cause I was able to get an antennae adapter for an aftermarket stereo for my moms Caravan from a Durango at the wrecking yard.
$18k for a Viper hood (9:06), what's the alternative? I think you guys either didn't cut enough or cut too much. I'm on the edge of my seat now :)

They don't rip me off because I can't afford them.
Many Maserati uses the Magneti Marelli ETM (throttle body) as the 2001
Companies that make buses and RVs are big parts bins fans, too. I've seen headlights and tail lights from random cars like say, a 94 Golf. Kinda fun to look at them and notice what car they're from
Honestly, I drove a Dodge caliber and it's actually a pretty good car for it's purpose. Crazy to think it could've been a rebadged evo. And I never knew people hated on the evo X. It doesn't hold up to the legendary status previous gens had, but is it really that bad?
15 EVO X owners here; I could say almost all of the EVO owners who I know, no matter which generation, never hated the X. After all, the S-AWC system on the X is so ahead of its time and handles so sharp even today. There are enough 1000hp+ 4B11T out there to prove its worth. 99% of the people who hate the X never owned or even drove them. Look at the new VAB WRX and the VA STI people even hated them for having the old EJ and not changing them; guess what? Now even the STI is dead and they all run off to buy a Toyota Zupra(funny they hated it for being a BMW as well). People will always hate whatever they gonna hate. And in 20 years, all the gasoline JDM cars will be gone, so what cars will they hate then? And given how much markup the local dealership demands on the FL5 CTR and GR Corolla, making them a $65K+ OTD car. I will happily hold my EVO (now standing at 36K miles) till the world's end.
Is there any website or something where you are able to check what parts from different cars fit on your car ??
