    • @groovingyourway
      @groovingyourway Před rokem

      I made a video demonstrating a tri-fold, using 3 vinylstoragesolutions outers (2 multipurpose, 1 dual pocket). Folds flat & preserves! There are other ways I guess you could do it too if you wanted another pocket, swapping out a multi.

    Thanks for the tips! I bought these and one thing I noticed is that this method can put strain on the jacket especially the spine. Some of my gatefolds were slightly bowing after a week and some the spine were slightly rounded. The other issue is that, with this method, no pressure can be put on the jackets because the vinyl itself is pinched on the inside where it meets near the inner spine. You have to be careful how the record is positioned here when you put it back. My solution was to simply not seal the inner flap inside the gatefold. That way there is no strain on the jacket at all and no pinching possible. It doesn't look nice having the white strip left inside, however, so I think I'll try doing these gatefolds instead using one resealable and one tuck. That way the tuck is on the inside and there is no strip. There is no strain when opened or closed. I think the tuck can also be tucked into the opposite sleeve. These sleeves are definitely my new favorite though. Very nice clarity.

Anyway, I bought 100 Outer Sleeves and 50 rice paper sleeves, the sad thing is, I had to pay close to £40, in shipping. I purchased them an hour ago, and I will have to pay more in VAT when they reach me. :-((

    Hi Michael - like you I purchase new inner sleeves and outer sleeve protection - although not as nice as the ones from VSS (but that will now change!). I'm keen to know if you clean your records. If you do when do you clean them and how do you clean them? - maybe worth a separate video. Personally I am quite OCD about cleaning my records - just keen to know what you and others do if they do actually clean them. Apologies if this has already been discussed - I only found you last week and I'm trying to catch up on your video's, which are great by the way. Also super impressed you enjoy electronica - I never thought I would hear electronica being mentioned on a audiophile/vinylphile channel - I can now come out of the closet! If I ever see a Michael Fremmer rave about Boards of Canada I will have to question what was in my drink :-)

I have a concern that placing the disc in the outer pocket may cause issues with the record it’s up against. Very practical, but I have the same problem with plastic that Norman Mailer used to complain about. Mailer, a forthright writer who was always thinking in metaphors, likened plastic to modern spin culture where substance mattered less than semblance, a culture of deception insulated from reality. "Touch plastic, and it gives you nothing back," Mailer used to say, as if it were insulated from your touch, whereas wood, chalk, paper, iron, steel, all gave something back to the touch. It's an intellectual but tactile point too. Paper inner sleeves was the standard way back when I bought records, and the best sleeves, which Polydor always issued, compromised with outer paper and inner plastic. And you get better interaction with the album cover without plastic insulation between you and the paper/card essence of the album package and the artwork. Of course the killer discrepancy in all of that is what is the Record made out of? But I avoided that question deftly. And so I never used any outer album protection sleeves at all - - albums had to huddle next to each other on the shelves to avoid the dust. As indeed do Norman Mailer's books on the bookshelves, to this day.

  • @DC-xx4kv
    @DC-xx4kv Před 3 lety +4

    Michael, in all honesty you have to have had records fall out of those pockets. There’s just no friction plastic on plastic. Jackets are meant to hold records inside. The snug fit keeps them inside as long as the inner sleeve opening is in the top load position. Also some if not most new audiophile records have inserts, booklets, posters. I personally want to see the jacket, single or gatefold in all its glory without pulling everything out of the pockets obscuring the artwork, song listing, pictures and text. To each his own but my thoughts. Thx for sharing always good to hear different POV’s.

    i am brand new to your channel! this is like the third video ive seen, or fourth.
    anyway, i am fascinated by your tattoos! you must be a musician, Sir!
    also, and this is going to sound weird, as you are an audiophile, but the sound level on your youtube videos is LOW LOW LOW! lol

    Dear 45 RPM Audiophile, really love your channel, very relaxing to listen to! :-) Quick question, and sorry if it has been posted already at another video, but if you have 2 LPs do you put these in 2 separate inner sleeves, and then still put them in one outer pocket, or do you put 1 LP in 1 pocket (in case for instance of gatefolded albums with 2 LPs)? Any reply highly appreciated!

    You had me buying in until you stashed the vinyl on the outside of the LP.

      Protects the cover, but does little for the record. I don’t get why so many in the VC love them.

    I didn’t know exactly how these worked and now I don’t understand the point of doing this. Definitely not for me. Outer sleeves are expensive enough just using one for each record.

    Nicht sehr sexy! Ich hoffe, die Musik klingt nicht so aseptisch wie die Verpackung aussieht.
