Fascinating troubleshooting, thanks for making this video! Crazy how badly condensation eroded those chip connections on the PC board. I would've thought that VW would have put some sort of protective shellac or other coating on it, but it looks (based on the extensive corrosion) that there was no protective layer at all.

I’m having instrument cluster issues too.
    95k miles on the car.
Dealership says I need a new instrument cluster. When it was throwing all those warning lights. They charged me $167 for the diagnostic. However the car was still running. (When it wanted to start)
Now the car doesn’t even start.
    It’s a MK6 Golf Base 2.5
I have a cold air intake and Catback exhaust.
And this issue first appeared because because I noticed the hose on the cold air intake I believe the MAF had popped off.
I zip tied it back up and the problem with the instrument cluster went away.

This Gateway Modul may be what’s wrong with it.

My golf mk6 is either not starting (in the morning only) or starting with all warning lights on since two months in which it rained every single day and the humidity is always high. Odb scan once showed 01317 instrument cluster control module no signal and 00474 immobilizer no signal. May it be a condensation on one of this? For all this time solution was either disconnect battery for a while or remove f1/f2 fuses and then put it back. This way it starts and then following starts of the day are just fine although sporadically warning lights are on.

No rains these days but same symptoms. Opened the gateway there was no condensation and no corrosion at all. As disconnecting and reconnecting battery solves the problem and it keeps repeating every morning now the only explanation would be that there is a cycle (24 hours maybe?) that triggers the problem again and again. Scan errors showing many codes is not leading to a clue. Are gateway, immobilizer and can bus interchangeable terms?
