Jeep Gladiator JT/Wrangler JL Radio Install from 7 inch to 8.4 inch

  • This radio was purchased right from the Jeep Dealership I bought my Gladiator from. You don't need to buy off line at very high price, just call your Jeep dealer and get the right radio for your Jeep. There are a few different part numbers for Gladiators & wranglers. I used part#68472597AJ but you can also check with your parts department as they change every few months. This was a super easy install and it took longer to position my camera then to do the actual install lol. All you need is just two tools, a 7mm long socket and a plastic pry tool. The radio will sink up to your canbus and as in my situation it took a few hours for my Sirius XM icon to show up. Other than that it went off like a charm. Thanks for watching.

      Honestly I love that when I reverse it's the whole screen and no black lines on the side of the screen. The other little feature of seeing a contact picture when I get a call and just the larger screen fits more apps. Just go drive a Jeep with a 8.4 after you drive one with the seven. Really though it's not a necessity but to each his own. Thanks for watching.

    • @DorkPrince
      @DorkPrince Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the reply!
      Honestly everyone recommends "just go drive one" and I will once some stuff lines up, but a test drive isn't going to show me every feature of the system and since I've never owned a Jeep and for that matter never been off-road in anything other than a work truck, I wouldn't know what I'd want or use (yet). That said, I don't want to start out with one and right of the bat be wishing I'd gotten the other because something I would have used isn't there. To that end, I was hoping for real user opinions on it, which you have provided -- and thank you again.
      Fact is, I don't care about letterbox in the rearview *BUT* if the 7 inch rearview is like a VHS compared to a Blu-ray in the 8.4, that's good info to know. I can live with VHS, grew up with it, it wasn't as bad as CZcams videos make it seem. But, I'd prefer Blu-ray of course if it's available. But if that's the only thing I'd get benefit from, then it won't sway me away from buying one with a 7.
      I don't care how many apps fit in the screen, as it's just one more tap to go to the next one, and if the contact's name shows up I already know what they look like so that's just fluff to me, and I can take it or leave it. Now, if there are limitations like, say, off-road pages aren't available on the 7 inch, that would be something I'd have to take into consideration. Have you run into anything like that before your upgrade?
      Otherwise it seems I would be fine with either. Of course I'd prefer the 8 but it seems it wouldn't be worth the extra $1200 for me.
      Thanks again!

      @@mpe924 Same here! still cant figure out why Jeep cannot issue a software update for this thing. I've read somewhere they claim its because of the aspect ratio of the 7", and in full screen it will make Car Play look distorted. I call it BS because there are plenty of weird aspect ratio aftermarket screens on the market with full screen Car Play functionality. Seriously before buying the gladiator I always believed that car play is a full screen kinda thing. Just laziness on the part of Jeep.

    Great video. Thanks man! But could you please clarify. There is a guy (czcams.com/video/mAn34ouANWs/video.html)- skip to 3 min 12 seconds. He claims that after you purchase 8.4 inch radio (2200$) and install it yourself like you did - it's not gonna work. You have to go to your dealership and give them some "sales code" to program your jeep - for extra cost. Obviously, when you installed it - it worked amazing right away. Did you have your dealer match up the radio to your jeep or do anything of the kind after you installed the 8.4? How much did you end up paying total to swap the screen? I'm factory ordering my Sport S and 8.4 screen option comes with a bunch of non-optional crap that I don't need - 3200$ total, not sure I wanna pay it.

    • @ESBJeep

      If you get the right radio from the parts guy it will sync up no problem. I had to wait a few hours until my Sirius icon appeared but other than right away. A lot of these parts guys unfortunately do not know a lot about what they sell. I would call around and find a dealership that knows or follow what I did. It really is not hard they just want you to think it is. Thanks for watching.

      Yes, the only thing that you will not have on is the "Offroad pages". You can get that screen after a dealership flash or a Tazer I believe but I have not done either yet. I swapped my 7 inch 2023 JLU Wrangler radio out for the 8.4in radio (bought on Ebay, from large parts supplier in Topeka). my experience was that I had to provide the dealership with the 8.4in radio S/N and its donor VIN, the dealership then provided the Theft Code. They provided it over the phone, free of charge. The first dealer I called didn't know what they were talking about or just giving me the run around. The 8.4in radio is far better in audio quality.
