Wrangler JL - DIY Radio Install HEIGH10 - HIGH END Sound & TONS of features!

- Äas pĆidĂĄn 26. 06. 2024
- Let's install the Stinger HEIGH10 in our Jeep Wrangler JL! If you have a Wrangler JL or Gladiator JT you may feel that the audio system is lacking. The first step for any great audio system is a great source unit. The JL/JT dash is very shallow though and doesn't have the room for a normal double din head unit. There are also many factory features like climate controls and vehicle option settings that need to be retained. How can we retain those features and get a large screen to fit? We need a purpose built kit! In this video we dive into installing Stinger Off-Road's HEIGH10 with Wrangler/Gladiator Integration kit!

Literally an installer's dream of integration.
Right? And those color instructions. đđđ
I left the car audio installation biz in the '90's because vehicles were getting more complicated to install. Auto manufacturers made aftermarket installations much more difficult and factory units were getting better. These newer "black boxes" are awesome. A little expensive, but made wiring and integration much much easier. The industry did not even make factory radio harnesses when I started installing in the '80's. Lol.
It's very impressive.
@@chuckw6099 Me too. I installed in the '80's & early '90's. No harnesses needed and you could make your own kits. I then worked for /////ALPINE for almost 10 years and and started another career when I saw the end of 12v profitability . I still install 'on the side' and recently installed a X409-WRA-JL for a friend. Nice unit. I sometimes miss the old days and definitely don't miss needing the right firmware to get aftermarket products to work.
I'm an installer and I cannot wait until digital audio becomes the standard. I know so many installers that are "afraid" of digital.
If I were a Jeep Gladiator owner, this reference video is invaluable. Great job as always Mark.
Glad you think so, I really wanted to go into detail to help those that are interested out!
Stinger took it to another level with this one. Love the video Mark. Thanks for awesome content
We have a 19' Rubicon with the 8.4" screen and alpine factory sound system. I'd say we are content with it for now. Nice to see another option out there when it's time to upgrade. Can't wait to see what you do for speakers. I was a little disappointed when I found out they went with smaller speakers in this generation of Wrangler.
This is a great upgrade for those who have the small screen. I like the 8 inch screen that came with the factory rubicon.
I just got mine and while I only had my jeep back for 3 days the Heigh10 is above and beyond the best!
Companies that have that service after the sale are the ones that grow a following. These guys have that from the start. Well thought out and comprehensive video support through out. Oh yeah, thatâs good stuff. Good video Mark. Showing wire routing and tie ups. I like the routing help. Having few if none power crossings. Itâs good to have power and line wire separated. Stay safe mates!đđđ»đ·
Thanks for always dropping in! Very pleased with this radio, its hard to enjoy my smaller radios now... lol
@@CarAudioFabrication, sometimes that happens. This company seems to have a lot going for them. Their forward thinking and the support mechanism they have in their product is both refreshing and very helpful to anyone who uses their site. Other companies could benefit from their example. This is what I call doing it right from the get go! Enjoy it Mark. This radio is a winner. Stay safe mates!đđđ»đ·
This is a very descriptive straightforward tutorial! I canât wait to get mine ordered! This video will make it very easy to install â€ïž
Iâm so excited about this Jeep build, the OEM head unit and speakers in Jeepâs are terrible. Really quality videos you take ur time on each video, give detailed and useful information, and really capture the functionality of the product. Keep it up!
My girlfriend getting a Jeep soon , one thing I wanted her to get was the 8inch upgraded infotainment system, after watching this we can save about 600 dollars and get this which is much nicer and looks factory , great job to the engineering team at stinger for this one , unbelievable!!
I've been looking for a high quality review on this item for a while now and i'm very glad i'm already subscribed...Thank you very much for the video...
Glad to help! Thanks for watching and the kind words.
Nice ride, man. That radio is sick.
Beautiful and well put together review of this system and installation process. It is VERY helpful. Thank you much!
Have the unit setting in a box for my JT. Wish I had seen the video before buying for the discount. Excellent coverage of installation and use.
This might be the first time I've heard someone praise built-in navigation versus mobile-based navigation. Living in Houston, there's always road construction or new neighborhoods being built so the built-in maps become outdated after about a year. Android Auto and Apple Carplay saved the day more often than not. :) Loving this video BTW!!
Mobile phone Nav will always be superior with the instant updates.... until you don't have cell phone service out in the sticks and have no idea where you are. Built in nav comes in great for that situation as noted in the video
Well, I now know what I am getting for Christmas!
Why wait for Christmas
This unit is dope! I wish I could have made in work in my Trooper. Great video as always
That kit is top notch!
well, this proves it Your phone is listening to you Just bought a JT and was lamenting the quality of the radio while I was driving home. First video that shows up on my feed.
And yeah, I'm buying this stereo
Haha đ, at least it's showing you something you really want. Don't forget to take advantage of the code in video description đ
Great review Mark!
The favorite upgrade to my Jeep so far!!
Highly recommend the Heigh10!!
Thoroughly described and explained the installation process.
Second. Love the vids. You have helped me find a tonne of tips and tricks to bring my build to the next level! Thanks for all the in depth videos!!
Glad to hear it and help! Any cool projects in the works right now?
@@CarAudioFabrication atm I'm just working on my 92 crown vic build. The custom builds have definitely given me a lot of ideas. Gonna try to work in some fiberglass enclosures. Been a fan for a long time. Keep up the great work!
Humm very interesting, I kinda like that remote head option better then the alpine ILX halo
Wow. The integration is remarkable. Kudos to Stinger- this looks like an excellent product from all standpoints.
The auto start stop memory feature is icing on the đ for me. I'm sold.
I just had this installed on in my 2021 Wrangler Rubicon yesterday, including the integration kit. So far, its running well and really looking forward to having this system. Its really feature rich compared to my 7" unit.
How has it been?
Do you have an eight month update?
Any update?
This thing is awesome! I wish it had this level of support for my car.
Was looking into getting one of these! So glad to see someone who knows their stuff covering it! Most of these Jeep CZcamsrs don't have the first clue about the specifics of the product, this thing looks awesome.. The other options on the market are either WAY to MUCH or crappy looking. The font of the "Insane Audio" one alone makes me throw up a little. This Stinger is very nicely done and a great price point.
Another thing that just impressed me how did that capture you're jeep like that that is so cool especially with the back up camera being outside wow I have never seen anything like this before.
Good video...I installed this unit the other day...awesome!
Sickness overload, dude. Congratulations on the new ride!
Appreciate that, thank you, you have been subscribed for five years now, that is awesome!
@@CarAudioFabrication I really appreciate you taking time to read comments and respond. đ
What no one talks about. Is the fact u have to spend another 179 on the sd card to use the navigation. And another 68 bucks on the xm module to use xm radio. And donât show how to hook it up. Itâs a great radio but these things should be made more clear to the customer.
I still have my 5" radio on my jeep gladiator 2020 . Your presentation just convinced me ...Awesome job I will have to contact stinger and get me one . Thank you đ
Another great video, good job!
Great Video as always!
been wondering though, do you have any videos going in depth on ports? Such as calculating how much port area you might need or what the differences between different styles of ports are? Ive been looking for a video like that but I don't think you've made one yet. :(
I was on the fence put this video pushed over. Ordering it right away. The main selling point was keeping all the vehicle settings.
Iâve seen them talk about integration hell, but this seems like integration heaven...
Looking forward this this build đ
I just put this in my 2014 Silverado, and itâs amazing!
How do you add the sub-wolfer to this? Is it done by signal or speaker wire.
Mike Miller I used a 2 channel patch cable straight from the head unit to the amp. Has the connections ready to go for subwoofer amp. Plug and play. I tapped into my side fuse panel for the remote turn off.
I just ordered one canât wait to get it in. Net thing will be to upgrade the speakers and maybe add a little sub.
Not sure if that's their intention, but I love how some of those plugs are recessed into the unit so you don't have to worry about bending or damaging the plugs during fitting.
Trust me, itâs still very difficult to put the head unit in without bending wires. My HDMI came out of the PAC 3 times while putting it in.
Please do a speaker upgrade on the jeep wrangler jl. You would get so many views on that.
He did for the jk czcams.com/video/J30JWkw4Irw/video.html
+1 I really want to do a speaker upgrade but have no idea where to start.
Very detailed overview.
Our 2018 Rubicon has had never ending problems electrically and we believe heat caused a stereo head unit malfunction. Our screen delaminated and has caused can bus issues as well. Thank you for this tutorial. Iâll let you know how ours works when we get it and install.
Thanks for the useful information on how to add wallpapers
That's very nice.
That is pimping Bro! xoxo
By far the best aftermarket replacement I have seen yet. I wonder if they will offer a wrangler 392 compatible option. As I believe it has a few other pages but I may be mistaken. Mine hasnât arrived yet so Iâll have to look into it more.
Welcome to the Jeep life!
Continuation of the Jeep life, but thanks!
Nice - that's pretty impressive - do you still retain all the Jeep off road pages?
Thank you for doing this. My 2020 jlu sport needs upgrade. But 1500. Nope
Stinger did good
Great channel. Ever thought of doing a stereo upgrade in a Polaris Slingshot? Would love to see one. Thnx
Love your content love you build but can you please do a video of installing speakers into all four doors itself that you have to actually cut into the door panel would be awesome I'm planning on getting the ds18 door pods for all the doors but the speaker's I'm going to be putting in half to get cutouts done to the door panels so I would like to see it actually getting done on video so I have a better idea what am I getting myself into thanks a million keep up the good work
I actually have a new heigh 10 for sale because I don't want to take out my RSX-Gs9. For some reason no one has purchased it in three months and I have it for only $900. Maybe everyone needs to see this video to understand how awesome it really is
Very bold of you to assume we can find our 10mm socket
Usually next to the wire extender and 6x9 holesaw
Need this for my Jeep đ„Ž
I fell in love with that Heigh10! I wonder if they have a more customisable solution for a classic car.
Yes, you can use the HEIGH10 stand alone. Also check out the ELEV8
I have a 2014 silverado and am getting this unit installed next week. they make a flush mount kit for silverados.
I would definitely get this, however Iâm not confident to install this on my own. Do you have a shop? Where are you located? Subscribed!
Wow, Iâm not a Jeep owner (Challenger) but respect where itâs due, this is a sweet set up. Iâm curious as to how this affects the warranty?
Only person I know of that gets a new Jeep and the first mod is a stereo! đ
I mean, you know me right?
The way you sounded in the beginning I thought I was watching Doug DeMuro auto reviews
Hey, thanks for the video. How's the radio holding up?
Nice đ
Thanks for this. Quick question. Does the navigation within the unit. Does it need a subscription or does that nav work right off the get go?
I will gladly pay someone to do this đ
Great content, thanks! I went to that website however it is for trucks and keeps only. Do you have any recommendations for cars? I'm building a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria for my wife. It has a double den. What would you recommend for this type of vehicle to replicate this type of system, at least as closely as can be done?
This is nice! Is there anything like this for a 2021 Toyota 4Runner?
Love the content... I don't know what else to say.
I appreciate just hearing that, thanks for taking the time to comment. :)
With the option of an integration kit, they need to slim down what actually comes with the Elev8 or High10. Just the 2 main components. This would keep costs down. Optionally, just another part# for both with this option.
Great Video. Your link for a 2019 Jeep Wrangler says coming soon. It seems to out of stock everywhere. I really wish I was able to order one.
Wish they had this type kit for Jeep Grand Cherokee
hey ' long time subsriber here. you are doing a great job my friend. will this fit in a prius? i could use some help with my prius. i need a good stereo double din unit. would you be kind enough to recommend a good system for my car please?
I love this step-by-step....thank you so much for taking the time to share this install with us! Couple questions I have is, why is it necessary to run another mic and speaker for chimes? And I can't find it anywhere what the RMS per channel is on this unit. I have the same factory set up as you, with the 7" non-Alpine system and all stock components. Trying to figure out where to start. So many options! Oh and my local shop said that they do a component 6 x 9 in the sound bar, and I can't find anything on the net with an example of this. I really love the idea of having that set up in the sound bar. Just a thought. Thanks again.
Stock mic can't be easily integrated and isn't as good of quality. Some chimes must be recreated with the new speaker. Power output is in line with other aftermarket head units
The Stinger box say 4x50 watts. I would say it is more like 4x25 "usable" watts. I am running the rear channels to my Focal 6 1/2"s in the soundbar and it isn't as loud as my front set of Focals in the dash/knee housings. Those and my dash speakers are running off of a Kicker KEY 180, which is 4x45 watts. The rears certainly don't keep up with the fronts. Me personally, I would not think that 6x9s in the soundbar would have enough airspace, but then again, my dash/knee speakers' bass output is much better than my soundbar. Same exact speakers, polyfilled and dampened with sound deadening. The chime is required because the unit takes a long time to boot up, defeating the required government warning systems. The mic also puzzles me since the factory handsfree was excellent and now my friends tell me the new external mic with the Stinger unit doesn't sound as good. I have the new external mic on the upper left of my windshield/pillar area. YMMV on that.
Honestly that does look like a damn good stereo probably goes loud and bumps real good however I think a lot of the stuff that come with it should have already been built in the unit I mean that's a BB lot of stuff I don't think I'd invest in that kind even tho I do like touch screens I'm sure it was well over a grand.
I can already tell you what the best 0-60 time on the JL Wrangler will read SLOW! đ€ŁI also believe the reason the direction of travel is not showing on the Driver Information Center is due to the Can Bus system in most cars. Hopefully one of the manufacturers of vehicle integration will crack the Can Bus system this year! đ€
Hello. I was hoping you could let me know what you think of this head unit after having it your Jeep for a while now. I have the 8" factory unit and was thinking about upgrading to this.
Saw the Sirius satellite radio logo on the unit. How is the performance? Does it support any of the favorite song or replay features?
Cool! Would this work with the stock 7 inch that doesnât have the bigger inner speedometer screen? Thanks
Any idea if they have a Canadian distributor? I can't find it anywhere in Ontario but I NEEEEEED this unit!!!!
Great video.
Would I be able to plug in and use my iPod classic with 160g of music?
Looks like a great system, I see a dash kit for a 14-18 Silverado but almost no info on it! I'm confused why this product isn't more available on the market. Wish you weren't sponsored on this to get your 100% opinion on how this android based system works.
Is there a real benefit to this setups vs the JL Audio 9inch set up specifically for the Jeep
Are you in AZ? Let's get that jeep lifted!
What are your thoughts on the handsfree quality on the Stinger? We just picked up a 2020 Jeep Wrangler and looking to have the local car audio install the Stinger and new Alpine Speakers. Thinking about adding an amp and sub, but not sure I want to spend the extra $$$. Thanks
you showed a sd slot for off road information/maps at the beginning. It looks like after the install that slot is not usable. Correct?
I have a zautomotive mini programmer that allows me to change many factory options. Does this help/hinder the Stinger functions?
Do all of them come with the HDMI Outlet in the back of the stereo
very nice review. wish there was one for a silverado to see whats retained and whats lost.
They have one for gmc/silverado and it retains everything. I just bought mine last week
@@1deep357 do you still have the exterior temperature readout?
đ Looks like Christmas came early? đČ
My gladiator mic picks up a lot of background noises. How is the mic on this unit? Any noise cancellation feature? Thx in advance
does it put the turn by turn navigation into the center lcd jeep screen between the speedo and tach if using the sdcard nav?
also if the jeep came w/sirrus, can it be reused w/this? also would it work w/the fac alpine parts like sub and stock speakers. sorry lots of questions...
I wanted a stinger stereo for a while and was saving up to get the 10â but everywhere Iâve looked online they have pretty bad reviews, and Iâm not exactly sure why. They sounded like they were supposed to be good quality.
Wonder if installed on a gladiator will the vehicle info screen show a picture of a wrangler? Or a gladiator?
Question, would tire pressure stats show up on a 2020 nissan frontier? Nit sure if this radio would work for it but I'm curious
Q: the audio shop where they installing the unit are using the factory GPS cable. Will it work are there going to be any issues?
Hi, I just bought a 2021 Wrangler Sport S 2 door. I plan to upgrade the 7 inch unit to the HEIGH10. I currently have as home audio a Devialet 140 and Sopra no1. What speakers-sub /amp combo would you recommend in the jeep? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Great video. Does the navigation turn-by-turn still show up on the dash display?
I dont believe so.
