i think the CR78 should do a solo album
haha agreed, well i think he's tha star on the Atoms for Peace album?
jajaja 😁😁
lol
damn
It did - it was called "The Eraser."
Can we get an applause for the audio engineers?
Outdoor vocals on a breezy day... nailed it!
For real, sounds amazing!
Yeah hold up that’s actually fantastic
I was only thinking that also for whomever set up the camera and lit the scene
No kidding; I had this on autoplay in the background, and would have NEVER figured it was a live outdoor cut. I'm sure they did a little cleanup in post, but still absolutely nailed it.
Almost forgot to listen to this today
Hahaha...it's true. When I'm sitting around killing time I invariably will take a few minutes to pull this up. I'm mesmerized by Jonny's playing - watching as well as listening.
haha cool comment
But ya didn't, Blanche.
I've listened to this probably 1000 times
Thom and Jonny are one of the greatest musical pairings to ever exist.
They're part of a better musicial group.
@@jecoharman agree, I was just speaking on thom and Jonny being the main songwriters in Radiohead.
Like Lennon/Mccartney
@@alejo7365 lol nice pfp if only he had a Jonny Greenwood who pushed to more intelligent music
I agree. I feel the same about Cedric and Omar. Some people are just perfect for eachother
a radiohead song comes out, you listen to it and then you say "hey that's ok" 2 years later you come back to it and say "BEST SHIT EVER". Happens everytime man...
Honestly, it sounds reminisce of OK computer. Love hearing those guitars!
Facts
Javi Behrens not sure if I totally agree!! But I love most of all introducing people to classic Radiohead songs!! Thom is so cool he is uncool. I wanna be uncool too
First time I put on Kid A...I was thinking what the hell is going on? Now it's awesomeness is burned in my brain.
Peter Landriault pablo honey was the absolute cream of music yo me!!! I fell in love with ok computer but when I heard pablo I was blown away. But kid a was a different direction. Still very playable. But I’ve listened to pablo honey on beaches around the world from start to finish!!! Not many albums available that I can listen to happily the whole way through!!!!
Jonny is always 100% in service to the song and never seems to need or want to show off. Respect!
My thoughts exactly... he has the touch to take an amazing song patron into something even better
Jonny is a musical legend in every way.... cannot say a bad word ever
and is the same live too... 100%
That's his way off showing off obv.
Unlike Thom's shoes.
Johny even uses his hair to mute the strings. He's on another level.
is he actually?
@@Wufffles no, it's a distraction... he is actually using his mind to mute the strings.
hahah
Radiohead have soundtracked my life. I feel so lucky to have been around to see this band.
Must be a miserable life.
@@crappymcdick It's lovely.
@@crappymcdick As miserable as Thom, lol he's still alive. They're great
.
Within the sphere of your understanding. It must be.
Hearing Radiohead do a cover of Radiohead songs is always the best
I believe an artist "covering" their own song's just called performing a song.
I think only Radiohead could cover their song better original one :D
@@apullcan i believe he's being sarcastic
Literallyyyyy every performance is different
@@apullcan ok mr einstein
Jonny hasn’t aged in 30 years. Maybe I’ve just never seen his damn face?
Hahahaha
Adrenochrome, probably.
🤔🤯🤦🏻♂️
I don't know if he has eyes.
funny!
I've been listening to Radiohead for 25 years now.. Since I was a teenager.. Now I'm heading to 40.. I've changed, they've changed.. And I am still following them around.. They are literally "the band" for me..
Follow me around - Radiohead
I feel the same, the best band ever!
Me too
Me too, i've been to several of their concerts in the Netherlands. It's the first time i see how johnny looks like without his hair in front of his face 😅🤭🤪
Me and my boyfriend, who died in 2007, didn't have an 'our song'. We had an 'our band'.. Radiohead is a trip down to memory lane for me. Their music is in my heart❣️
46 here and I've had the same arch.
There's a VERY short list of bands from the 90's (Radiohead, The Pixies, Godspeed You Black Emperor, etc.) where you'd hear a recording, and say "Yea that sounds amazing but there's no way in hell you could pull that off live), and then you see them live and think "Holy sh*t that might be BETTER than the recorded version!". Unreal talent.
The Microphones/Mount Eerie/Phil Elverum have that same thing but in a reverse way - so much of the beauty of the recorded versions are the found sounds and the ambience and the way he knits it all together and makes it feel warm and breathing and lived in, and then you have the privilege of seeing him in the basement of an old church, by himself, switching back and forth between an acoustic guitar and an old piano that I think just happened to be at the venue, and you hear the songs stripped of everything but the rhythm and the melody and the words and you realize that all that beauty you found in the sounds he created was in service of the song he had written, and as much as those sounds add to them, removing them doesn't diminish their beauty at all. Anyway, they're pretty good
pixies where the 80's
They make it look so easy, talented bastards.
beware ones covetousness of such a talent. Always look at your own and be happy with that.
@@jasonbarbush4991 or, work at it. And make it more than just talent.
They are great, but we make it much harder than it actually is; with all our insecurities, fears, and ego. Let it all go, and the shit pours thru. It's too bad there aren't better ways for all the amazing artists in this world to be heard.
It's something that you got to feel.
I’ve found this one of the more fun Radiohead pieces to cover
I loved that "probably" at the end.
Yeah after such an emotional empowering masterpiece thom brings you back to a dull reality with "probably". I cracked up with laughter
John Martyn-esque
Not sure what it meant
Tesla Death Ray it means that he is probably satisfied with the recording. i love his perfectionism.
Arian Samselnig no, he's saying that we'll *probably* take back what is ours (one day at a time). Like someone else said, he's humorously shifting from that extreme level of hope, optimism, assuredness and enthusiasm to the realistically dull doubtfulness: "well, probably. maybe not. a lot of things could go wrong."
let's not underappreciate the CR78. it sounds great, is always on point and has a great chemistry with Thom and Jonny.
And he plays nice football!
Exactly. The cameraman actually does, they never show CR78. :(
The way that Jonny just NAILS it at the start is amazing.
100% underappreciated
This is one of the most captivating and intimate live performances I’ve ever seen. It’s essentially flawless.
The setting, the sound, the man bun…it’s all there.
That’s because it’s overdubbed. Listen to the beginning there’s 2 guitars playing while one of them has his hands in his lap
@@fieldingmellish6856 I mean it’s not a secret they’re looping the riff and baseline
@@fieldingmellish6856 its literally one guitar
@@fieldingmellish6856 Do you know your left hand has a thumb ? Very useful for bassline.
the things I love from this video:
- the audio
- those trees
- the bpm of this version (it's slower)
- "hit me" 0:23
- Jonny changing the pattern 3:42
- Jonny increasing the intensity (like the strings in the studio version) 4:28
- Thom's 6th string noise 4:59
- the dolly getting closer to Thom and Jonny at 5:34
- "probably" 5:42
thanks man i didint notice some of those changes
can't disagree with any of that ^^
Did you notice Thom plays the intro at normal pace until the drum machine kicks in?
That's my favourite bit
Yes. I've never been able to answer the dreaded question: "What's your favorite song?" (As though you could just pick ONE out of ...; That'd be like asking "What's your favorite second of the day?" Ummm. Anyway. If I were pressed to pick one and I just want them to leave me alone, I'd say this song. This version. This this this.
That 6th string noise is fantastic! I know its short but its just so satisfying to listen to! Is it replicatable on guitar?
CR78 is part of the band now.
It pretty much was ever since Kid A, if you know what I'm sayin
now?
Je ne comprends pas.
Like in everything, damn robots trying to discard us poor humans! Phil doesn't know what's coming for him ! Run Philly boy, run I say!
Christiano Ronaldo
I come back so regularly to this. Perfection doesn’t age or lose potency.
I think it does both, which is why it’s so elusive and ephemeral. But I share your love of Radiohead
I don't think it does either, which is why it's so elusive and ephemeral. And, I share your love of Radiohead.
Holy shit. Perfection = Present = Timeless. Well done sir, you’ve just i think most succinctly described the power of great art.
Its still crazy to my Jonny has had the same hairstyle for over 40 years.
It's crazy he still has the hair to pull that hairstyle off for over 40 years. Meanwhile, we have men in their early 20's going bald these days.

Jonny:
We aint gettin' old are we?
Thom:
Fuck no mate...
as a kid in the 70s I grew up listening to the Beatles. Never thought there could be something as complete. Then Radiohead showed up.
When I first heard them (I was 18 when mtv began) I knew instantly that they would be huge. You can ask anyone I know. I took my 14 yr old daughter to see them open for REM. They’ve been a huge influence on my life ❤
Beatles v Radiohead is not a favorable comparison imho.
Peak Thom Yorke voice for me. These two are insane together. Would love to hear The Smile do this version of the song.
love the bassline on the album version. its killer
@@TheWaynos73 colin is more subtle than jonny and that is what I exactly love about him, absolute banger indeed
peak Thom voice was 97/98. he's still good as n old man though
A Moon Shaped Pool From The Basement would be the best thing in the world.
if I bought Moon Shaped Pool then I would have to buy all of the rest of his albums. I only own OK Computer, Kid A and King of Limbs. These days my money goes to other necessities.
@@jasonbarbush4991 Who asked?
i thought about a future invention that takes two or three songs and blends them together to make one new masterpiece. often i hear such music in my head in the silence.

The sheer artistry on display here is mind-boggling. Thom and Jonny; and also Paul Thomas Anderson's skill in capturing it (not to mention the audio engineering). Kudos.

Thom Yorke stole the ‘h’ from Jonny

The way Jonny looked at Thom in the end means everything.
This is beautiful. Just 2 insanely talented men and this gift of a performance. Thank you for existing Thom and Jonny!!!!
Thom Yorke used to buy candies at my grocery when he was a little kid. what a pleasure for an old man to sit and listen to him as a grown up artist..anyway, thank you for reading my lie

Must be nice to be able to have Paul Thomas Anderson direct your CZcams videos

Weirdfishhes Had Ten Dollaz
Dirty Frog Yeah, but I gave it away.
Minimalist? This is shot on film and can you imagine pulling focus on those shots. Love the colours and natural look of film. Ballsy keeping those opening shots with the dolly track in view.
I know it's 7 years later, but lol.
Love the energy that Jonny brings to the song with his flowing, repetitive riffs/sequences. Just great.
Jonny is amazing. I love the way he just lets the sound seep in at first, just almost praying. When Thom says "hit me" he comes to life (physically) hits the CR78 he taps the side first in the beat of the song then clicks. Pure magician.
I keep coming back to this version of the song every now and then. I find it so soothing and relaxing.
It's because this performance seems so effortless, yet so perfect.
Has to be one of the best of its kind ever. I can't stop replaying it, has to be nearing 100 plays for me ! I prefer it to the album version.
I worry about Jonny getting bad neck pain when he's old. These are the kinds of things I worry about.
I think he is ready to pay the price...
I often wonder how he hasn't given himself scoliosis by now
💖🌲🌲🌲🌹💎
Perhaps he isn't subject to mere mortal failings like age or skeletal conditions. He hasn't physically changed since Pablo Honey.

"The future is inside us. It's not somewhere else." These lyrics hit me hard.
But, probably.
same here
powerful, but in many ways very true. Create your own path - 'one day at a time'
Wholly agreed--and inspiring when you phrase it that way. I know we all have dreams but many of us are afraid to pursue them because we worry about the future and the practicality of our dreams. But if we see the future as something that's within our control, its empowering :3
rockmonst3r the future will never actually come to pass, we are the present. any ideas of the future happening can only be determined by each of us individually, not from time actually passing. just being aware of this means that being in fear of death/loss/anxiety etc is baseless when the future is going to happen regardless, we don't have control of the reality others have but we can be the masters of our own.
Jonny feels like he's putting effort in every note he plays, so quiet, but yet so intense
man ,how I love this album
He’s a wonderful musician but Chk-chk chk-chk bjjjjjjjjjjjj guitar part from creep is still the most memorable thing he’s ever contributed.
@@hermestrismegistus3417 get a fuckin education. A palm mute x4 into a chorus isn't his biggest contribution, or even the best palm mute of the era. That would be STP and Vasoline. Evertime I listen to a song from Radiohead I've never heard before, it becomes a song I'm mesmerized by. It also happened when I watched Ozark and Decks Dark played. The scene, the song and the build-up to that point in the episode was epic.
God! I've been listening to Radiohead for almost 20 years and they never cease to amaze and keep getting better. This is gorgeous, magical...transcendental. Best band in the world.
I think I have too, if it's 20 years since The Bends was released? I consider them the last of the seminal English bands. Musicians that are in a league of their own, who sound like nobody else and have created their very own sound/art. The sad thing is I don't think there'll be any more after them, they are the final act in a play that started with the Beatles. The baton was then passed to the likes of Pink Floyd, a couple of other bands like New Order and The Smiths came after that in the 80's, then Radiohead in the 90's, and there it ends.
+grizcuz I would add Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden , Laughing Stock to that list
+grizcuz what about Bjork and Portishead as well?
Come on! Nirvana?
Shanna Magdalene poor mans coldplay
Yorke is looking better and better every year :')
Annie Silence he's looking like Willie Nelson. No offense though lol
BREAKFAST Okay, Willie Nelson's son probably....
i dont agree but its funny xD
His talent made him cute ❤👐
With his hair and beard he's almost a dead ringer for Willie Nelson. That's not an insult b.t.w.
That is a really crude statement, how insensitive. This is Radiohead's official CZcams channel. I certainly hope Thom doesn't see your comment.
The mix of those beautifully strummed chords and Jonny’s nicely palm-muted rhythmic stabs is just 👌🏼
I'm convinced the whole band is not of this planet. The music they create is otherworldly.
How does Jonny get to 45 with the same haircut he had when he was 20. The music changes but the hairstyle holds on for dear life.
his hair is cool anyway. as long as hes comfortable with it who gives a shit
Adronias He's an freaking Android!!!
Adronias lmao it's an iconic look tho, his hairstyle is what I think of when thinking of the best musician in the band
He's hiding his face!
He's a shy retiring type who'd rather be heard and not seen ;)

His solo albums are great.
Underappreciated by whom?? Those that don't know music? Greenwood is regarded as one of the best guitarists of this generation.
I know Greenwood
I agree, he is a genius but he is in no way under-appreciated. What is it about Radiohead that makes me feel like I’ve come home and puts me into a trance all at the same time. Soul salve. I love music, all kinds…I have my favorite bands that I respect the musicality of their work….but Radiohead is like stepping in to a grand cathedral. This song especially demands reverence, introspection, grace, openness, oneness, self acceptance and ultimately patience…my personal take. Out of the 18 million views of this video, I think at least 1000 are mine. I meditate to this song, it reaches the depths of my subconscious unlike any Tibetan singing bowl. Because It's Pre-Record. They Already Record This Song At The Studio Before Taking The Video. It's Almost Frustating Have Almost No Reverb With The Recorded Song At A Place Where's No Walls Around Them
@@bagaswahyuillahi6009 That explains why I hear a bass but don't see one.
Frank De Ruiter My guess is that you hear Johnny’s E string that is tuned down two whole steps. The tuning for this song is CGCFAD. There is no bass guitar on this. Just 2 guitars, drum machine, and Jesus.
A CR-78, two guitars, one mic, how hard can it be? I hear some clipping to be honest, I like it but it’s not rocket science.
Jonny is so relaxed, bare foot and yet intensively performing!
I just stumbled across this lovely piece from Thom, and Jonny. What a find!❤️✌🏻
I love the albums, don't get me wrong, but stuff like this is pure beauty
Like Wine Like Water yeah I agree.. it’s like thom’s solo version of bloom. Just so damn beautiful.
One thing doesnt deny the other. You can say "This is pure beauty" and Im pretty sure no one is gonna think you dont love the albums.
Like Wine Like Water Im from 68.
Which one should be after Decks Dark?
do decks dark nxt please
Glass Eyes
Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief
True Love Waits
Identikit
Ful Stop
Radiohead is Magic. This is one of their most Powerful invocations.
I could listen to this all day long. Wow....love this version. Thank you guys!! Your're beautiful souls........
The way Thom slows down as the CR78 comes in with that beat just blows me away.
Yeah, it was absolutely immediate. Too smooth.
??? It's not that hard lol be more impressed with his songwriting. Coming in with a beat in a few milliseconds is second nature to any musician who's been playing for years.
I don't mean blown away by technicality. Most musicians can do it. It's just those little things in music, like someone yelling in studio and you can hear it in the album release, or someone missing a note, and somehow it becomes a charming flaw. Just like Thom going too fast at the beggining and slowing down the pace inmediately as the CR comes in.
Oh nice :) yes those idiosyncracies add magic.
When I see Thom's foot tapping, I'm reminded of how I learned how to play and read music, and that the drummer controls the speed. In my experience, you usually have to tell the drummer to stop speeding the beat. Come on....actual players give me some love on this :-)
When a Moon Shaped pool came out i added it to my Radiohead collection without checking out any of the tracks as i already knew i would think some of them would probably be a bit weird and a bit cooky at first but after a few listens i would see the genius and each track would calmly join the rest of their creations as a classic piece of audible art in my life. Everyone should have their opinion and in mine Radiohead are the Greatest band of all time.
Right!!
Well said my man
holy shit so relatable! Since AMSP was released I just listened Daydreaming and True Love Waits, but now I´m discovering how to appreciate the Album and as you said, it´s joining the rest of their creations as a classic piece of audible art in my life!
Just as TKOL, it grows in you...
Besides the Beatles and theyre starting to give the Beatles a run for best band ever. I saw Noel Gallagher talking shit about Radiohead recently. But really what else does Noel Gallagher do? Radiohead is light years ahead of Oasis. The whole Britpop thing was between Oasis and Blur because everyone knew Radiohead were and are vastly superior. Noel Gallagher can go aim his bullshit at Coldplay or something because Radiohead are untouchable.
THIS NEVER GETS OLD. how soothing she is
I love this song. Top 5 Radiohead song recorded on albums. But this stripped down version may be even better than the album version. Un fucking believable!
Thom said, "probably," as in, probably good enough to keep. Jonny's look was, "that shit was perfect, Thom."
I felt he was joking, adding to the final lyrics of the song. As in "one day we'll take back what is ours, one day at a time. Probably." Bit of a joker is our Thom.
Yeah, it is not clear why he said that and that is why Jonny looks like that at him.
Douglas Stahl prolly right.. y’all don’t think to hard ... aight🤙🏻
It holds us like a phantom
It touches like a breeze
It shines its understanding
See the moon is smiling
Open on all channels
Ready to receive
Cause we're not at the mercy
Of your chimeras and spells
Your chimeras and spells
Mmmhm
We are of the earth
To her we do return
The future is inside us
It's not somewhere else
It's not somewhere else
It's not somewhere else
(One day at a time)
One day at a time
We call upon the people
only people have this power
when the numbers don't decide
The system is a lie
A river running dry
The wings of butterflies
And you may pour us away like soup
Like we're pretty broken flowers
We'll take back what is ours
Take back what is ours
one day at a time
Teerent Check out Gematria Effect News. I think this is what The Numbers is about. Amazing lyrics from master Thommy
Masterpiece!
Thanks
probably at the end !!
