I'm an english student, and I was searching a Present Tense video to practice and I found this. I came looking for copper and found gold.

The Radiohead effect is so weird, you start off not understanding and then after a few more listens it’s the only thing you understand.
Hi I recommend an indie song called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
Perfectly worded!
This comment literally hit the nail on the head. This is EXACTLY how I fell in love with them.
exactly, i still couldn't figure out why that's the case
@@tse7751I think it might be a little bit to do with how experimental they are, especially in relation to other acts as popular as they are. Each album is wildly different from the sound of the previous, and each song distinct. I think it challenges you a little more as a listener but once you feel the song it is extra rewarding.
My best friend died last week. When I met him, we didn't like each other until we find out both of us played Radiohead. He was 35 five and it wasn't supposed to happen. This was one of the first songs we played together, and I'm playing it at his funeral next week. His wife put it to him at the hospital when he was in a coma, before he was disconnected. This band was with me in my hard teenage years when I almost committed suicide, and their music helped me through it. And now they'll be signifying all my life, reminding me of my friend, Cesar.
I’m sorry for your loss buddy. Rest easy Cesar.
What are lovely comment, my condolences. Every Christmas Day I light a candle for my mother and blow it out at the end of the day in memory of her, the sweetest woman who always made Christmas special for us kids, hope you find a way to remember Cesar like this.
Losing a close friend is difficult, youre honoring him through the music you two shared together.
Jonny has had this guitar for over 20 years :)
Yup :)
It sounds more amazing than ever. You can only get that tone with age and lots of playing. That's such a beautiful guitar.
Yet somehow his main guitar from 91-95 had more wear. Lovely grain pattern. I do hope they find it, they found his backup a couple years ago now.
Yeah, I think he has two Telecaster Plus guitars. Thom plays his SGs a lot and Ed his Strats.
i just hope fender makes a johnny greenwood signiture telecaster someday (@_@)
the first was stolen, right?
There will never be a day when I am bored of Radiohead.
Try to say the same about their fans
David McKelvey true Datt!
You got bored of them already

True
Thom ages like fine wine. He's so much more handsome when he's old. And Jonny doesn't age.

The Beatles is. But Readiohead is one of the biggests for sure

Holy shit I never noticed the connection
🤣 oh god...
Ha! Good one.
Not getting it ...
OH SHIT
I feel like they've been playing so long together and have been friends in the band so long (think back, it's going on almost 30 years now) that the type of connection they have musically and as friends is one that can only come from years and years of all the experiences and times they've been through together. I can literally see that in this video in the way they interact. Call me over-sentimental as a long time fan, I'm okay with that. But to my eyes, this is the most graceful, beautiful, peaceful thing to see how they play together and their connection as friends and bandmates. It makes me look forward to growing older and staying in touch with the friends who matter most in my life.
okay na phillips.
Well said. I can only imagine such a long-term close friendship, as I've spent too much of my life traveling.
This is why I like bands that have the same lineup throughout their career. After being together for years and sharing that bond and experiences has a unique effect on their music.

For all their technical prowess, their amazingly expansive sounds, and all their engineering wizardry...this is a prime example of why I've been a fan (and love) Radiohead from their inception. Beautiful songwriting and incredible musicianship. It's what separates flash- in- the- pan and forgotten artists from the ones that you can't stop listening to....even 30 plus years later.

I can only listen to this song once in a while. From the first time I listened to it, it felt very special and took me somewhere unique. I didn't want to listen to it to the point where it had no impact. Another thing then doubled up the reason I can't listen to it all of the time - my mum died suddenly last May over the space of a weekend. She put up with my Radiohead obsession for years, but when I played her this song, I think for the first time she understood it. We listened to the entire song in silence. This song brings her back for me, for just a while. When I feel like I need to grieve, this song helps me through it. I would love to meet Thom Yorke and the rest of the band, but how could you ever express to them how important their music has been for you?
very sorry for your loss your mom sounds like she was a very kool lady! very well stated about this band btw there are no words to tell them what they have and continue to mean to us all .......

I listened to this song a lot when I fell in love. Brings back so many memories to me, sad but beautiful. I've never decided even to text her to tell I miss her, and this song became one of my "hiding songs" for that time. I was hidden in this melancholy, borderline heartbroken all the time, this feeling was colored precisely in the colors of this album's cover art. It became like a forever rainy day for me, freezed. I knew exactly what it meant by "self-defence against the present tense"

Dang, the boys just channeled the divine right there. Even Johnny's expression at the end is of a man that just touched Infinity. This is a devastatingly beautiful rendition, and every pitch of Thom's vocal melody sent shivers up my spine. Stunningly beautiful! I keep coming back to watch it over and over. It's thoroughly lodged in my head, and I don't ever want it to leave.
There are two things I like about this video:
1) Thom Yorke's quirky intro.
2) How at the end they look at each other like "wow, that sounded good." They impressed themselves. :)
True that
Привет, малышка, ты прекрасна!
Exactly!
3) Jonny's Leinenkugel's shirt
I think you're completely overinterpreting your 2nd point (Radiohead fans tend to overinterpret/overdo a lot), Jonny's look is literally as neutral as a look can be. It's impossible to read any specific emotion on his face for sure.
I had not realized until now that the first time round, the lyrics are "all this love would be in vain" and the second time it's "all this love has been in vain". It kind of broke my heart just now.
What pedal is Jonny using?
Sounds like a phaser? I'm not 100% sure.
delay, and probably some reverb
for delay and possibly reverb (if hes not using the built in amp reverb) it would be his boss re-20. Hope this helps
Boss RE-20 Space Echo
I'm guessing it's a phaser(Probably an Electro Harmonix Small Stone) at the beginning and then maybe a reverb or delay later? The reverb he typically uses is a Boss RV-5 and the delay could be either a Boss RE-20 space echo or a boss RV-3 on the delay setting. There's a pretty cool website called 'The King Of Gear' that's pretty in depth for all of their gear.
Just heard this for the first time. Hit me so hard bc of my current situation. Had me in tears. So amazing. 👏
How do you sit down and write a song like this. On another level.
You press one note. Then you press another note that sounds good after that one. And then it just forms itself.
after the third note is done prepare your fourth note.
All the music in this song was probably written in parts years ago; Radiohead has bits and ideas written from years ago that they pull from. For them, it's probably more a matter of putting the pieces together into something that's repeatable and fitting for their band.

Exactly my experience with Kid A and A Moon Shaped Pool. Everything else was instantly likeable immediately; except King of Limbs, I still think that's shite. Why does that happen with Radiohead though? Their music takes longer to grow on you than anything else, but it sticks with you forever unlike anything else. What a band.
the way they’re just silent in the end like they have no idea how epic what they just did was
