I think the biggest reason radiohead is loved so dearly, is because they create music that people can find comfort in. Many consider their music "depressing", i think that's true and it's the reason why so many people love it, they create music that allow people to relate to being depressed and finding comfort in not being the only one who suffers from depression and/or has dark thoughts.

I saw them on their In Rainbows tour as well. It was my 2nd tour of theirs I saw. *This album saved my life.*
My father died not long before the release of the album. He was 52. I was 26 years old (only child, single dad) and had quit my engineering job to be his 24/7/365 nurse, caregiver, maid, shrink, cook, best friend, and driver, and in the last few days of his 4 years of suffering, I was his daughter again. When he died, *I HAD NOTHING. Nothing but death and emptiness and I no longer cared about anything.* I have never been so low or suicidal. Then...
      *In Rainbows*
      This was my life preserver.
Now, this many years later and in my 40s, with lots of therapy and still alone... These songs explain SO MUCH MORE as to why they spoke to me. I can understand all of it, and explain where Thom was when he wrote them.
      *oh... Rachel...*
Videotape kills me more now than ever before.

This album reminds me of San Diego and when my dad moved there after losing the house. We moved in with his high school friend, who became paraplegic from a dirt bike accident early in life. He was listening to this and Rogue Wave. I was familiar with Hail to the Thief already but this reminds me so much of that time. Later we were kicked out. My dad hasn’t spoken to him since -I don’t think. I haven’t spoken to my dad in three years. So this music is nostalgic with so many mixed memories. The pain of what it must be like to be lonely and disabled. The sorrow from losing our home. The dread of having chaos and conflict follow my family- interwoven with the excitement of a new place and the solace of a warm San Diego night.

    In the deepest ocean
    The bottom of the sea
    Your eyes
    They turn me
    Why should I stay here?
    Why should I stay?
I'd be crazy not to follow
    Follow where you lead
    Your eyes
    They turn me
Turn me on to phantoms (way out)
I follow to the edge of the Earth (way out, way out)
    And fall off
    Yeah, everybody leaves (way out)
If they get the chance (way out)
And this is my chance (way out)
I get eaten by the worms
    And weird fishes
    Picked over by the worms
    And weird fishes
    Weird fishes
    Weird fishes
    I'll hit the bottom
    Hit the bottom and escape
    Escape
    I'll hit the bottom
    Hit the bottom and escape
    Escape

in rainbows has so many of my genuine favorite moments in music, as well as a couple of my favorite pieces in their entirety. when the bass kicks in on weird fishes, when johnny's guitar goes clean in bodysnatchers, that literally heavenly rising coda to reckoner, itself probably the single piece of music in the entirety of the medium which is my favorite... this is such a magnificent musical accomplishment that i've rarely failed to come back to for any period of time over a DECADE. this album helped me survive some truly gnarly stuff. the whole "play this at my funeral" thing is trite. i'm going to play this album throughout my whole life, and i'll celebrate it as long as i live.

My favorite album by my favorite band. I've been listening to this album almost every day since 2009. What makes me feel more affection when listening to it are the memories of my adolescence... through the window and saw a huge garden with a huge cashew tree. I loved when there were tropical storms with winds, I saw the garden get wet and writhe in the middle of the storm… it was very introspective. I could spend all day like this. Until my mommy came to call me and ask if I'm okay, because I've been listening to “sad and depressing” songs in my room for hours, lol. God, how I miss her and that time.

This album means for me the initiation to the world of Radiohead. I remember the long hot summer of 2008 when the during night walks I endlessly listened the Nude, the 15 Step, the House of Cards...
    What times were they!

My old friend introduced me to Radiohead years ago when we were just a couple of young lads going to coffe shops to draw, hang out, get caffeinated then we would be crusing in our cars just to pass time until early morning. Fast forwarding to today, we are no longer friends but I am glad he introduced me to this. He will always be my friend.
