Definitions of hard times depend on how tough the person is mentally. Me, I'm pretty damn weak myself. The people who see me in real life and know me know that I am the same person in a group of people and when I'm alone. Hard times can range from a break up to losing someone in a car crash, or to be at the very bottom, with no hope, nothing and nobody to live for. It can mean anyone, I was just leaving it open for different interpretations of what hard moments even are.

The lyrics "I don't care if it hurts, I wanna have control, I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul" can be interpreted as a mind trapped in a vicious cycle of self-harm. Many people hurt themselves to feel they have some sort of control over their bodies and their pain, specially when they are obsessed about stuff they cannot change. There are limits to changing your body (like, you can't change your height or your whole face), and you can improve your personality, but the singer feels he's both ugly and creepy, and can't change that, so he hurts himself. Even if they didn't write the lyrics thinking about self-harm, I'm entirely sure they don't mean he would force the girl just to have control.
