This song makes me want to smile, cry, sing, and dance all at the same time. Absolute perfection.
i feel like this song, and music video in particular, marks a key moment in radiohead history.
since the bands creation, they’ve always only wanted to make music. they didn’t care about stardom or anything like that, but upon ok computers release and phenomenal success, they couldn’t avoid it. their touring of ok computer was incredibly stressful and challenging, and left yorke’s mental health in a terrible state, which was what their song “how to disappear completely” was based on.
once they released their 6th studio album, their record contract was over. they were free. they tried to retire, but even just not working felt weird to them.
so they got back together to make “In Rainbows”.
many of the songs from “In Rainbows” were recordings from years previous, that they wanted to release, but weren’t able to due to their record label. when creating “In Rainbows” they didn’t have these limitations. they were free, which was what they always wanted.
and i feel like this video represents that.
this video doesn’t have any special meaning behind it, it’s just the band members having a blast recording the masterpiece of a song they always wanted to record.
freedom and happiness.
this sounds pretentious as fuck but i just wanted to write this comment to say what i thought about this.
it doesn’t sound pretentious! good analysis!
Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief proved in a way they were right to move on, even those 2 are damn masterpieces of music, their record company at the time was Emi, shortly had to face many transformations of the industry (anti-piracy restriction program, CD comedown, break up) and weren't concerned with Radiohead situation ,definitely conclusing Band wishes to take off was a safe move before a kind of earthquake in the music indusry.
I remember they realesed In Rainbows for download with the well known "pay what you want" direct exchange with people. I can observe they already suggested this kinda "P2P" success with the song 2+2=5, i'm just relating this because of the outstanding In Rainbows results.
It's my humble opinion folks,
Regards😉.
the best part of this album is that when it was first released, you can get it for free
Hey man thanks for taking the time to write this

Absolutely.
SAME
Thom has nailed the art of dealing with his body while singing. When singers sing they often know not how to move their bodies, and when they try its often either too much or so obviously forced it’s not rhythmic or even enjoyable. Thom just moved his body the way he wants, he just jiggles, makes a derp face and immerses himself. I enjoy his movement, he moves the way I want to move when listening to his music.
Ikr !!! it's like he's possessed with the music and is really LIVING it it's so cool
Nothing makes me happier than watching Thom dance....nothing.

I really love this song, it's one of the most optimistic songs the band has ever released, but it has this thread of tension throughout that I think really elevates the piece to a new level. It's not quite foreboding, but like that feeling you get when everything seems to be going well, and the seed of doubt lingers in your head that it's all too good to be true. In that way it embodies the name of the song; all of the pieces are falling into place, but you aren't yet sure what the picture will be.
Hi I recommend an indie song called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
It's wild to say that a song with the lines "Cheshire cat grin" and "wish away the nightmare" are anywhere near optimistic, but that's just a testament to how damn dark Radiohead is.
that other boot...
optimistic ? . . .
this song is not optimistic at all lmao what
Just a couple of observations after years of listening to this tantric orgasm of a tune:
1.) Backing vocals are fucking awesome
2.) They used a theremin in production
3.) Impossible to listen to this tune just once. Not just once, not just twice if you will
4.) This is one of Radioheads greatest songs
5.) Phils make good bald drummers
What's a theremin?
@@naikobellic2124 It's an early electronic instrument that is controlled purely by one's hand movements in the air, but it's not used on this track. Another early electronic instrument, the ondes martenot, is used instead, which can sound somewhat similar but is played very differently (moving a ring around one's finger on a ribbon in front of a keyboard).
Where did you notice the use of a theremin?

Definitely. Very Ringo Starr, too.
Name the best Watts or Ringo performance on any song. I can name 75+ from Phil that are better. And he is, at best, the 3rd best musician in the band.
I noticed that also. I grew up on 90s MTV. The anti Tommy Lee. No drum stick twirl.
jason t totally spot on. Phil is an amazing drummer. No frills no flash no spinning drum kits. Just great in the pocket shit-hot playing. Love listening to him.
@@rickhawk1011 Phil is great. To go is great and so is Charlie. I admire all three. It's not about who's better but just about the quality of their work. vi-IV-iii-ii-V-vi minor (aeolian) diatonic. I find the song absolutely boring and monotone melodically. Along with Bodysnatchers and House of Cards, they totally sound like the fillers on the album to my ears
nightswimmings L
@@nightswimmings this isn't a boring chord progression at all I can say as a musician this is quiet a unique chord progression especially because of the drop d it sounds very unique yes it might be a common progression but the chords that are used are not common chords at all
@@nightswimmings i can agree on house of cards, maaaybe bodysnatcher, not on this one though. This one is one of their finest, listen to it carefully; the cord progression is way cooler than you think, look at how it is structured and and that Bm Bbm movement.
@@nightswimmings house of cards is probably my most favourite on the record
I've been listening to this song for 15 years and it just keeps better and better. And better. Jigsaws falling into place?
I wish i could hear this for the first time again
Every time you hear this song, it gets better!
The Box That Could This is a world of sycophants, and jihadists.
It happen with any Radiohead song.

Hey you might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like Radiohead. They're different but similar
The legend says that go pro was invented after this incident
It's amazing how many different Radiohead songs are all my single favorite song of all time.

@@deafleppard1812 I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic lol
I only have positive things to say about the rest of the Radiohead discography, but this song has hit me the hardest. I will, forever, love this song!
Drew Dawkins Thank you for expressing my feelings.
exactly
Yeah, this song is fucking heroin.
I mainly listen to hip hop nowadays, but this is a band and song that I’ll probably always come back to. So much better than their contemporaries.
Monk Killedababy Me too man
this song mean so much for me. When i was little my dad always listened to this song. We often went to a drive and listen to radiohead and this song was the one we listened the most. It reminds me a lot of old feelings. It reminds me the nights long drive and it reminds me when it was easy. My dad and I are still big fans of radiohead and everytime we hear this song it always touch our hearts with a hundred feelings.
Hi I Recommend a song Called 'the bond villain' by Robert Nix
one of my favorite tracks ever, I never get bored of this masterpiece
Isn't Thom's smile just the most heartwarming thing in the world?
true
after john frusciante's
I saw Radiohead @ Choachella. Someone must have said "I love you" to Thom. He replied "I love you too" my heart was warmed in the middle of the desert. I was working there at the time, got free tickets. Try it out.
Aww, you know i've always wanted to meet him somehow. He seems like such an intelligent and warm person. A lot of people find him to be slightly scary (and i can perfectly understand why) but i believe that, like he said himself, if you're nice to him and treat him with respect, he will be also kind to you.
He is intelligent and I think he is nice to people but I dont think he likes snob. He like's real fans:) Not just people who wants to meet him just beacause he is famous:/
It’s almost 1am..Just listened to this for the first time..and though I knew “creep” and “back drifting” from the years. I’m slowly falling into a dark depressing Radiohead binge that’s so refreshing at the same time. Now I really hope I don’t sleep tonight.
Truly a masterpiece in its composition and Thom’s orgasmic performance. I remember listening to this nonstop in Sophomore year lol
I can never get over how absolutely amazing this song is.
Jigsaw falling into place is also such a great phrase...top class👌🏼
