    One of the techs that trained me during extern is an MRI/CT tech. He would let me assist him by screening the patient, setting up for exams, cleaning and disinfecting the room, and he would let me sit in the room with him during procedures and he explained what he was doing every time I was there. I never considered anything past RT until then and now it's all I think about. We need more channels like this showing what we really do in the radiology world

    Just found your channel today, I want to salute you bro. I've been an MRI tech since 1999. I like what you're doing, from the little I've seen so far. I encourage you to keep it up, it's good to see the younger generation motivated and positive. I especially liked when you mentioned compassion, such an important part of what we do. So few understand what we really do, it's neat to see you peeling back the curtain a bit to encourage and inspire others. God bless you and your wife.

      @@TheSaLViGuRL Hi Amber, thanks for you question, give vaccines, no, not inn radiology. You could probably volunteer to do that outside the hospital, but certainly not as an MRI tech. Deal with needles? Yes, most MRI techs start IV's regularly, unless you work in a really big department that has assistants or nurses that take care of that for you. I've worked in both environments. It's not that big of a deal, you can do it! I encourage you to learn more, I'll answer any question you have, if I can...

Not complaining though, because that side hustle pays my mortgage with 12 hours of work. MRI techs are in short supply in San Antonio right now, and one of the hospitals in my system is so desperate they're paying me 133/hr to do that thing I do. A tip to anyone going into this field. If you are new and going to an interview make sure they provide you with a registered tech, the ARRT is kind of vague on their sight but it seems the way I understand it, a MRI registered tech has to be able to vouch and sign off on your stuff not just a diagnostic Xray tech in mri. So in the interview make sure they have a registered tech, make sure they are BUSY. If they are slow, you won’t get the exams you need, and make sure you are not working alone most of the time, these are situations I’ve landed in and now I’m in a contract and I’m stuck just pushing buttons for the next two years. Again, find a busy place. Be ready to work, don’t be a lazy ass, if you want the easy road then by all means skip the registry and work at a clinic, you can take that easy road. But if you can obtain the diagnostic/CT/MRI registries the opportunists are as vast as a nurse and you can fetch way more cash than the average tech. That’s #1 reason why we are here the cash.

    • @MRIMan
      @MRIMan  Před 2 lety +1

      We do not make a report for the doctors like ultrasound. We do let the Radiologist know if we find some crucial abnormal findings like a unknown brain mass for instance. Sometimes the patient need to go straight to ER., so we have to know what we are looking at. We also may have add additional coverage for some abnormal findings.

Also what kind of hours do you work? Do you do a standard morning to night shift or does it rotate that sometimes you get a graveyard shift?
