In the 1970s, merciless killer Charles Sobhraj preys on travelers exploring the "hippie trail" of South Asia. Based on shocking true events. - Zábava
"To all the young intrepids who set out with big dreams but never made it home" That line in the end touched my soul really deep
i cried so so much...
Mine too I was crying poor guys.
OMG ME TOO!! I thought I was being a softie. Nice to know Im not the only one who got hit with that image and caption.
And Dominique. Thank God he made it out♥️
@@knitchywa I KNOW RIGHT?! I was rooting for him to make it.
Let's admit that we all were stressed out when Domnique was on Airport.
Yes
YES!!🙌🏻
hhahahha yesss.... ohhhhh Dominiqueee
Yes looking all around 👀👀👀
Yes, I was sitting on the edge of my seat, it was a powerful scene.
OMG Dominique escape scene is so intense same with Nadine as undercover.
True. It has my heart in mouth
Big mistake for Nadine to get into that car with them. Monique was terrifying in that scene at the post office. Put a chill down my spine.
Yes absolutely. I was so scared that they wouldn't make it.
That scene for real. Had me almost fainting.
Yes, I had tears in my eyes and was on the edge of my seat. Plus, he is incredibly handsome... 😍
Within 5 minutes watching the first episode I knew this serie will be epic. Thank you Netflix for adding this gem to your repetoire.
I watched within 2 days I absolutely love the episodes highly recommended
I couldn’t agree more. It just has that “feel” to it.
It’s more like an HBO or Showtime crime series show.
Just phenomenal. A+++++
This "gem" eh?
@@diogeneslantern18 why you light when its day?
Pun intended?
I have seen it on TV. Tahar Rahim's acting is flawless, his portrayal curdles your blood. He deserves the highest recognition for this role.
@PietreADI It's a BBC show that was released in the UK starting in January.
I already saw , it was really amazing
Agreed 👍
The Serpent is one of the best series in 2021, what mesmerized me the most is how evil Ajay is, it's unfortunate we didn't get to know his full story. He played the evil character with so much ease, scared the shit out of me!
I believe Ajay was later killed by Charles when Charles chose dumping him & moving ahead with Monique.
There’s this rumor that’s been put out that Sobhraj had Ajay killed, which I think is absolutely not true. It’s a useful fact and it plays into the mythology of the story, but another associate of Sobhraj from Bangkok, a German guy, disproved it. After Sobhraj and Leclerc had been arrested in India, several months after he was in prison, this guy had a visit at his home in Germany and phone calls from Ajay. It would be pretty difficult for him to have been killed by Sobhraj when Sobhraj was already in prison. What happened to him is a complete mystery.”
@@jsingh7192 no i believe in the end credits when they show the real people it says he was spotted somewhere later on
@@SNAKES600 There was no evidence of it though. Safe to say he's dead.
I agree the actor who played Ajay was extraordinary, scary yet so charming at the same time... the ideal right hand man
Already saw this on the BBC. Apart from the story and the acting, as someone who lived in Bangkok during those times I can tell you that the attention to detail in the production is absolutely meticulous. You will really be transported to 1970's Bangkok.
If they had paid attention to detail that much, they would have cast actors that truly speak their character's languages. VERY very immersion-breaking and annoying...
I was so nervous in the Dominique's escaping part, had to pause, play, close my eyes, talk to my pets...and so and so forth!🙄
Me too lol
Hahaha really? I need to watch this. Just watched The Mauritanian and next this.
Hahahha me too 🤣🤣🤣
Dominique escape scence in airport was heart pumping moment...And the series is based on real event.. After this series I Cannot imagine to travel alone to aboard countries No never
Or even with others. Just proves you can still get killed. Wow. Frightening thought. Never say too much. Like you are travelling alone, gone a long time, etc. And don’t wave money if traveller’s cheques around for goodness sake! So many lessons. Careful who you go off with, accept drinks or food from, etc.
This show had me holding my breath at some points- especially the one where Dominique was trying to escape . Also nice to see that a brave diplomate from my own country basically cracked this case 👏🏼
I hold my breath!! So freaking intense!!! 😂😂😂😂
I wept like a baby with that episode.... it was so heartbreaking the scene when he's at the airport floor.
🇳🇱 🇳🇱 🇳🇱 🎆 🎆 🎆 👏 👏 👏
@@NinisRecipesbyIngridElvir iknow 🥺 I especially found it hard too when he was calling his parents and heard their voices again after so long, after all he was still quite young and hearing his parents again but being afraid maybe not ever coming to them must’ve been so awful 😢 I know the feel when you’re a bit scared and alone in a foreign country and you hear your parent’s voice, tears come easily, let alone if you were in his situation !
Its a story of a serial killer who is currently in Nepal´s jail for 17 years.
His real name is charles sobhraj.
I want to know the cigarette budget for this series.

The Dutch Embassy worker is an amazing actor I want to see him in more movies.
Yeah he played that geeky/strung out/passionate/innocent character pretty well
No he was shit
For real he can't act, it is horrific to watch. Such a shame to the story!
He was too try-hard. More passive-aggressive than his soft appearance let's on.
@@infinityblablabla yea and why not just cast a Dutch actor. His Dutch accent was cringe. And it was a cliche performance that any actor at that level can pull off. Nothing special. I don't know how this guy thinks he was a good actor.
Dominique, you are a great detail and i felt everything you lived. The feeling of being stuck in affected me so much that I still feel anxious..This serie is my gem for sure.
This series makes me feel so uneasy, but I can’t stop watching it.
I feel the same way! It gave me the chills! The lead character is so diabolical...
What an amazing show! I just watched the whole series in one night! Amazingly acted by all, thrilling story. The Serpent will have you all in his grasp! Wow!
Holy cow. Why did I wait so long to watch this?!? Netflix really out here killing it with the production and actors.
Me watching The Serpent
- watch and forgot to breath
- pause and read about the characters on the internet to know if they are still alive or not
- continue watching, feeling a little bit less stressed out
😅
Dangg.. That sounds deja vu to me
I made sure not to check any information on them to keep the excitement going. It was so good!
Less stressed out for a serial killer. 👏👏
Dang, Jenna looks great in this. The 70's style suits her.
I said the exact same thing. I mean, I'll watch her in anything but she looks especially good in this one. The '70s aesthetic suits her very well.
She was fabulous in this.
She looks stunning in pretty much anything to be honest
everyone looks good in 70's clothes
Tahar Rahim has done solid work for years. I first saw his talent in "Un prophète" in 2009. A very good French crime drama for anyone who wants to see some of his early work.
In English?
@@RonaldoCR-fi9nk No. French with subtitles, but worth it.

Tahar Rahim is legendary ... semds chills down the spine. Such intense acting, the moments he psychologically strong-arms people. Just amazing.
After all the people the killed it made me soooo happy knowing Dominique, Nadine and Remi made to old age and well 🙏🏽
It's by far the best crime series in years. Absolutely loved it
The Dutch diplomat was the hero. I wish the show revolved more on him. He was relentless. Just amazing well done.
I'm glad he was not, he can not Act.
The actor together with the director and the operator deserve all Oscars!!! Tahar Rahim has something like infernal magic in this series... 🖤 Highly recommended!!!

Just watched Tahar Rahim in The Mauritanian with Jodie Foster, Shaileene and Benedict Cumberbatch.. Will absolutely watch this..
I did as well. It's hard to believe now how supportive the majority of people were of cruel and unjust treatment in the wake of 9/11. I though Tahar Rahim was great in it, and Jodie Foster was good but she sure made me feel old. I saw Taxi Driver and Freaky Friday in the mid-70's as a kid, and seeing her know??? She reminds me of my grandma.
Good move.
The first French film he starred in, "The Prophet", is really very good.

Just thought it was Randeep Hooda, then understood they are doing Charles Sobraj
Randeep has done this role
@@denk3236 and he is the best.. 👍
Looking same
i was thinking the same
Read the book a long time ago, which is very good.
Since the real Sobraj is half Vietnamese, half Indian, baffled why they chose an actor who
is neither to play him. An actor's job is to pretend, so it could still work, but
he looks nothing like the real Sobraj.
The show is just incredibly good -- so atmospheric, you are completely drawn in. Work of art. Would like to see a spin off or some kind of fictionalization of this story.
The whole cast of this show is just extraordinary. Just to name a few I worry won't get the attention they deserved, i found Ajay so charming, Herman so smart, Nadine so sweet, Paul so exhilarating. Et j'estime que l'acteur qui joue Charles est un des meilleurs acteurs vivant

This series is amazing. One of the only few gems
For me, the most disturbing character is Ajay! Like we already know psychological situation of Charles and Marie but the ease at which Ajay accepted his role is sooooooo alarming! Like he has done it before 😬
Marie, the white girl from Canada, is set up as the conscience of the show. But it's Ajay, whose motivations make no sense, who gets us the closest to this "messy 70s" moment. Dancing and genuinely enjoying himself most of the time, Ajay is the true composite of Woodstock and Manson Family, the 70s of Jonestown, of Carlos the Jackal and Mesrine.
@@ReputationManagementDCannell exactly what irks me with his character. He might not be able to do it by himself, so I guess Charles can be more like an enabler for him.
@@SuperRobertoClemente Great comment.
Amazing show! Watched in one night! Amazing acting all around in this. A MUST MUST see. Deserves the highest awards .
This show is not glorifying Charles and his crimes. This show celebrates the fight of a young Dutch diplomat who gave it all to stop Sobraj from his crime escalation and eventually brought him to justice.
I watched this on BBC One and I was hooked. It's slow at first but it get better as it goes on. You just want the guy to be caught.
To the Indian commenters who loved Randeep Hooda's take on Charles Sobhraj please give The Serpent mini-series and Tahar Rahim a chance.
i just finished watching.. WOW, just amazing how Netflix pulls shows like this.. incredible
I've been waiting for this. I've seen "Main Aur Charles" And this looks like it goes into more depth. Plus, it seems like it's been an age since I've seen Jenna Coleman... and *damn* does she look good in these '70s style clothes. The costume designer deserves a raise!

The expression of JENNA COLEMAN's inner drama is great. The edited picture and soundtrack seem to be different from the BBC. But it is also great. It's worth watching again.
all the actors are intense, they played their characters beautifully, i'm always at the edge of my seat especially it always end with a cliffhanger until the final episode
This show was very well executed, the actors, their acting, the production, everything was so well made, my thoughts go to the young intrepids who set out with big dreams but never made it home.
this series is amazing it also shows that those people in power at the "embassy" Most of them will not care if anything happens to you abroad! I salute you Herman Knippenberg ! you said in one of the episode that. it is the reason why you are there abroad to help!
I was struck by that too. But I always knew that some places in the world have very different attitudes then home. Westerners perhaps assume too much. Life is cheap in many parts of the world, and we are entitled.
Yes the ambasy situation made my blood boiling.
SUPERB production qualities, phenomenal acting. a pitch perfect show, glad that it has finally become more accessible for the world to watch.
This is an excellent show.
Very tense and chilling.

I would really like to write “thank you” note to Knippenberg. 🙏

Sadly she completely breaks my immersion with her broken french and bad accent. Wish they had casted a real french canadian in her place so it wouldnt be so jarring. Not to discredit her effort she clearly had a lot of coaching, but nah, this doesnt cut it at all.
@@Alexelliste I'm sure its' super annoying for native french speakers, but for us who don't speak french she definitely had me fooled believing she was french or french Canadian. Only to find out she was in the UK show Emmerdale. Did not recognise her at all.

And this is what you call a trailer! Spooky background music to depict he was a criminal and the BBC trailer seemed like a western thriller with him in the positive role🙄
BBC love their sex criminals, the ugly toothed fucks.
