Glad you like it! Definitely a great truck! I think for $60-$70 I would recommend this one. For me Amazon shows it at $69 plus a 15% off coupon. I do have a review video on it. It’s probably my favorite car under $80. Roughly the same size, but not as fast. It has 2 small brushed motors.

Great job Evan and family. You know how much I love my 901a and it’s been more durable than yours (tho yesterday I couldn’t run it due to an all-new, worrying Noise) but I too would hand the medal for indestructibility to the 1/16 vehicle. Our fc600 (that’s the Truggy version of the “pro” for anyone not familiar) just won’t quit and it gets crashed a lot and “sent” off any and every available skatepark ramp. Total damage since new - one cracked body shell, one slightly bent rear dog bone.
I know you love it! It’s fun with bigger tires just doesn’t handle our style lol
It’s odd the metal parts in that car seem weaker than their other cars. The 2995 and our three 1/16 scales just love the abuse!!

Excellent analysis. I really enjoy watching your videos but I'm new to the channel. I was looking for the replacement for my eachine eat11 and I'm in doubt between the hbx 901a or the hbx 16889 pro. I like jumps and dirt and the more hits I can take without breaking the better. Keep up the great videos🤩.

Never seen anyone love front flips as much as you! I can say I would save a lot of crashes with my 6s Typhon in the past with front flips.

I suggest to please make up your own chassis brace for the 901A, or a reinforcement aluminium strip on the bottom. It is a siily thing that they seem to have overlooked making the 901A, almost like it was done on purpose ...
I agree. With a little bit more R&D, they could have made it superior.
Great video! I love your choices to compare!!! I have the 16889A Pro too. I shrink wrap the CVD ends and that keeps my pins from coming out, I sure did have it happen too! 🤣 One other thing I use for it is I go with a 1300 2s 100c battery. It really gives it more very insane punch all the way to top speed! it's crazy the way it is and this just kicks it to a new level! I don't have a 901a so that I cant comment on that one 😞(In the future that may need to happen 🙂 )
Yup, I’ll be best shrinking those for sure! I can’t tell if the pins are breaking or if centrifugal force is loosening the pin springs and allowing them to fly out!
Springs are always in tact with no sign of the pins! 😂

You can make that battery fit, but yes it does go over the servo. I usually add foam in the tray first 👍👍
Your reviews are great, you cover so much and still lots of action too! I see the 16889a PRO listed with different specs if it's not an HBX version? Are the HBX versions sold on Banggood different than all the ones on ebay just listed as 16889a PRO? The motor specs are listed as 3700kv vs 3800kv? Wonder if the shocks and everything else is the same?

I know there are different brands, like Flyhal, that sell this with different body shells. As far as I know they are the same, shocks too. But I don’t have any of the others so I cant be sure. I’m sure whichever one you got, you would love it.

Did you end up trying the upgrades on the 16889 you mentioned? I couldn't find the video. I ended up getting the Haiboxing 168090SA, the pro model plus an upgraded esc.

Good question, however I don’t have either of those WL toys models. What I can say for sure, is that the 16889a pro will be 10x more durable than anything WL toys. Really almost anything at all. I truly don’t think you can go wrong with that choice! I’m super glad you like the content! Also, using the link in our video description helps the channel out a bit.

I wonder if LC racing Truggy shocks would fit well. I got a huge bill since I returned the HBX MT and I may hold out on the PRO. I had zero issues with keeping the body on the brushed. Def lost some pins though.

Unfortunately I don’t own any traxxas vehicles yet. So can’t say for sure, but the hyper gos are definitely solid choices!
I wonder if the Redcat Dukono MT wheels would work on the 901? They are a lot bigger but light. I have not seen the 901 in person though.
I’m sure there is a way to make them work if they didn’t fit initially!

No you should be good to use them all, you just need to make sure that one car/remote pair are turned on at a time. We have used cars at the same time that take the same controller, just not the exact same car.

hey DC, i'm looking to get a well built, mainly metal parts 1:16 or larger RC truck, but the trim needs to go down to a very low speed setting. The slower the better! apologies for the strange sounding request, it's for a friend's art project.
When you say metal, do you mean drivetrain or suspension?
I don’t know too many with metal suspension cuz they tend to be less durable that way

One of my favorites is the HBX 2996a. It’s super tough and awesome I’m pretty much every way lol. Metal drivetrain, center differential, plastic where it counts!

I have 3s lipo battery 11.1v 2500mah 30c can I use 3s lipo battery 11.1v 5200mah 35c is that ok to use or I hope u answer my question thanks.
I think you will have trouble fitting a 5200 mah battery in either one of these, but I haven’t had the best luck with 3s on those cars. It makes them both glitch a little bit and I do believe in ruined the esc on my 901a

Thanks I’m glad it helps! Unfortunately we are in the middle of moving and most of our batteries are packed up somewhere. I’ve checked a couple of their measurements and usually are pretty close.

Ya I think so. It’s a pretty good platform. Check out my review on the 903a, which is similar but comes with somewhat better tires. Or for an even better car, check out my HBX 2996a video.

hey, I got also a 901a. did the new esc fix the delay from driving forward? iam pretty new to rc...the 901 has 35c esc if iam correct, could I run a other lipo with 60c? or did this melt my esc?😅 greetings and keep up the good work
Yes, the esc repair was actually in a different 901a video and it did fix it! 👍
60c should be just fine, just keep it at 2s/ 7.4 volts.

They’re pretty similar in handling. The longer wheel base helps the 901a, but the tires are pretty bad on my opinion. I think overall the 16889a handles better too, but probably not by much.
Hello friend! I heard somewhere that metal differential parts, gearwheel and pinions are the same(the numbers of parts are not the same) for both models but for 901 cost less. Only metal shaft is longer on 901. I haven't both cars to check this, but could you please check and say if it is true? This can save some money for comunity.
Can’t necessarily remember. I would think they would have the same part number so possibly not, however, I am pretty sure the diffs themselves are the same.

I've got fully assembled 16889 diffs at bargain price, but they don't sell the metal pinions separately. I will try 901 spur gear as it comes with 2 pinions already and looks same as 16889.
BTW I also got Q117 after your recommendation, what an awesome and fun car! When my father in law tried it, he just wouldn't give the remote back! He ran the full 3500mAh battery on it! 🤣. That's why I need to upgrade my 16889 😁

I know this is a older video but what is better out of HBX 902a or DEERC 9200E?
They’re pretty close to the same size. The 9200e may have a slight advantage on size. Even with the 901a being one of the least durable hbx cars, I do think overall it’s a little better. Sticking with that size of car, you can’t beat the hbx 2995 or the flyhal fc610. They’re essentially the same car. Not quite as fast but much more durable and controllable. Also easy to upgrade and make awesome. I have several videos on these.

This wheels are not good on any car in my opinion lol. If I remember right, they may have been a little better than the stock size, but the ones I have on it in this video make it way better!

I got my 16889 pro today and you are right - no way to do a backflip with stock configuration.
I am curious how you modify it to be able to do backflips.
Cool! Some slightly larger tires will do the trick. We use these on our 16890 which is a very similar truck and they work great. You may need to turn the steering rate down just slightly so it doesn’t rub the body when turning. Or you can add small wheel spacers or trim the body a little bit. But these tires make it much more fun!

To me there is no comparison price wise over here, the 901a is waayyy more expensive than the 16889! I can even buy a brushed 16889 and buy a brushless upgrade kit for it and I will still pay less for it than for the 901a, Shocking!!!
The video is about the 16889a PRO with brushless and metal upgraded parts. It may be different in some areas and from different sellers, but on Banggood the price difference is pretty minimal. That will fluctuate depending on the promotional prices but the price shouldn’t be too big of a factor between these two. Either way, I agree the 16889a pro is the best choice!
@@DerbyCityRC I ordered a 16889A brushless from Aliexpress today, it really sucks to live in a banana republic, so many sellers on Bangood seems to have lost a lot of revenue shipping to South Africa to unscrupulous fraudsters, so they simply stopped shipping their goods here. You will simply not believe the vast amount of sellers who simply don't ship WLToys here! So the best I could to here was to order my little brushless 16889A and then upgrade it to the pro version. I will be so happy if someone can do an in detail information video on what the upgrades are to get it to Pro status. However from what I have seen is that the one I ordered is also a pretty awesome little truck in it's own right. My son and I are just so over it to get slow and boring toy grade stuff that if it breaks, all you can do with it is to strip it for parts ...
