@@stello61 I don’t know what context this message comes from, and I don’t know how every INFP experiences things, so I will just share my subjective experience.
I have improved my ability to accept criticism through exposure therapy, as an INFP being surrounded by xxTJs my entire life, the way I could survive was by being forced to learn to have tougher skin. I am still quite sensitive, naturally, but I am continuously learning to accept constructive-criticism for the sake of myself and my relationships.
How well your criticism is received depends on the INFP, and how much they are willing to accept some things they might not want to hear.
INFPs can be avoidant when it comes to conflict, especially if they are an enneagram 9, or have it in their tritype.
If it is a sensitive issue for the INFP, that maybe they are trying to avoid, then that would make them quite defensive about anything you would say, and being harsh while delivering the message might either be a good way to push them to act and improve, but it can also be a way for them to shut down and be defensive.
Try to make them feel safe, and that it is not going to be the end of the world if you criticize them, because that is what it sometimes feels like when an INFP receives criticism they are sensitive about. It feels like this person doesn’t understand them nor accepts them the way they are.
If they care about self-development, and are willing to receive advice that will help them improve themselves and their relationships, then it makes it easier, even if it can hurt to accept "reality".
It also depends on how you are able to convey your good intentions in a way that makes it easier for them to accept it. You have to be direct, honest, and most importantly TACTFUL.
State your intentions, how much you care about the INFP, because that will make your criticism easier to accept. Be honest, and the INFP will learn with time that your way of directly communicating things, even if they may seem harsh, is for their best interest.
What's left is for the INFP to choose if they want to hear your perspective and act upon it, or not, and you can't really force them to do that.
It also depends on if the problem is damaging themself or you.
I'm sure that if they value the connection they have with you, they would feel damaged to know that they are harming you in any way, and will hopefully try to change.
If they are being self-destructive, then it is also up to them to make the decision to change or not.
The only thing you can do is just show them the door, and they're the one that has the choice to walk through it.
INFP-INTJ friendships are very special, and what makes it special is the honest deep emotional and mental connection.
Get rid of everything that hinders that special connection, and be grateful for each other's' existence in your life.
      Good luck.
Hope this could be of any help.

    • @Meowewoi
      @Meowewoi Před 4 lety +4

      You're welcome.
Honestly, it depends on the INFP.
But my advice would be, just introduce it to him little by little. INFPs love soul-searching, and also love to connect deeply with themselves and others. They naturally find themselves interested in topics like Typology, enneagram, or psychology in general. Maybe talk to them about relevant aspects and patterns in their personality and how it correlates with their type. Or, talk about your personal experience and how it was influenced by Typology. INFPs usually love it when they get to connect and dive deep into a person's mind. We love things that provide emotional intensity and mental stimulation.

I’m an INFP and I’m sure I’ve only met 3 INTJs in my life and though I felt I annoyed them at first, we somehow became very close friends. Heck, the last one I met even became my boyfriend and we’ve been together for almost 4 years. I gotta admit he can overwhelm me a bit with how competitive he is and I’m a bit afraid of making logical judgements out loud because he’ll instantly point out why it’s all wrong. I’m thankful that he’s helping me get better at that, but there’s times he’s so convinced no one but him is right, he’ll bend the logic to protect his pride. But all that aside, I swear I’ve never found it so easy to talk to someone. No confused looks, no explaining, no judgments because it’s like we share the same mind, except his side is like a multi layered circuit board and mine an LSD trip.

100% agree from my experience. My ex-girlfriend is an ENTP, but the "E" part here was overwhelming me often as you correctly pointed out. Too much outgoing for me, too. Most very good friends of mine are dominantly introverted people, several ISTJs here. Problem is that roughly only 25% of humankind has a "N" based personality. One of my supervisors was ISFJ - not easy to get along with this personality type I found. Before I even knew about MBTI, I remember one encounter where he asked me how I got from A to D so quickly. He didn't like when I mentioned the word "intuitively". He was upset, and I had to spend hours to show him the path to go from A to B to C to D until he accepted the valid solution.

Interesting. I had never thought of INTJ and INFP being so good together but it follows the same idea as INTP+INFJ, the supposed "golden pair".
The pairing system tries to put two types together where the two functions that are shared are dominant and inferior in one(INFP has dom Fi and inf Te) and auxilary and tertiary in the other type(INTJ has aux Te and ter Fi).
So INTJs take the INFP's two opposing functions and puts them together in their stack. So the INTJ is the reconciliation of the INFP's main conflict between that of Fi and Te.

    • @rikawithshotgun
      @rikawithshotgun Před 3 lety +6

When you compare the INTJ+INFP pairing to the supposed "Golden Pair" of INFJ+INTP, the functions align exactly the same way, just with different functions. From my own observations, Ni and Ne love playing together, the duality of the Fi-Te axis that is present encourages admiration and growth in both parties, and there's something more to the shared judging functions that I tried over and over to explain, but struggled to put it into words. Basically, they might value different information, but they can both relate to the experience of assigning value to information. I could be wrong, but that's the best I've got.

Two of my best friends (online) are INFP and INTP. Never met an INFJ of which I am aware. The INTP likes to discuss intellectual matters a lot, and sometimes it's a bit too much for me. He's been joining specific Discord communities where he can debate for several hours various brainy topics. I like discussing ideas with him, especially when it's for a specific purpose, but engaging in intellectual discussions without an end goal for hours on end isn't really my thing. His Fe also at times rubs my Fi the wrong way. It's hard to put the finger on exactly what it is. The INFP on the other hand understands me more on a personal level, so he's more relatable. I talk a lot about life with him and things that are Fi-Ne. I really like to engage my Te-Fi this way as I rarely get a way to express myself or talk about my Fi stuff to others. So they are both great in their own. One for trading ideas (though he's sometimes a bit too much) and the other to feel a genuine connection to as a friend. Despite liking the INTP I just don't feel it the way I do with the INFP. The Ti in INTPs create a type of emotional wall in terms of connection. I find it easier to connect to Fi people on an emotional level.

    • @17x71
      @17x71 Před 4 lety +4

The thing you couldn't grasp about the INTP's Fe is basically how fake it is. INTP's have demon Fi so basically they ignore, don't think it's necessary, despise their own Fi and sharing how they truly feel about matters. It's ridiculously fucking annoying for the INTJ because it's as if you don't even know them but the fake person they be. They may disagree with you on something and even hold hard feelings against you but they won't say it or mention it directly but passive aggressively instead. Whereas INTJ's or Fi-Te's in general want clarity. And they also get offended when you don't Fe with them as they feel you are obligated to as Fe users all do. But they won't even directly say that.
Fi users just let you be yourself and they be themselves too.

My mom(INFP), set me(INFJ) up on the only "blind date" I've ever been on with an INTJ friend, it was bad only because it was at a dance and I got overwhelmed by sensory overload, it's hard for me to socialize in a sensorially overstimulating environment, but it's still a fun memory as that INTJ friend later became my favorite person really. I think the initial seeming communication gap comes from not being used to seeing very many Ni Dom types. I think as it's kind of rare, we kind of get used to being a person that no one seems to think like or understand, so you don't expect to stumble across another person with an Ni Dom thinking style, who will Ni with you. I'm used to people not wanting to hear things, or my ideas, but he was the only friend that felt got it without even really having to speak much. They were the most relaxing person I've ever hung with, and his Te seemed to value my Ti, where most other people didn't seem to acknowledge or see it's existence. It was the best experience to get to be his chem lab partner, as his Te would be pulling out my Ti most of the time. Which I actually enjoyed quite a bit. And it was funny because in a school orchestrated matching fundraiser, he was my top match, I feel now that its because of our shared dominant function. Our divide mostly only comes from me, seeing the path he's on, not wanting to get in the way, and in needing permission to join in to things in general. Apparently as a nerd I need permission to nerd out, where he doesn't, but at least I get to watch his progress on occassion. Needing permission has caused me a lot of depression, and seems to create a misunderstanding in others about who I am to most others, but at least mbti has the words I've been missing that seem to adequately describe it even if just a model.

I have an INFP friend which I really connect well especially on common interests. ENFPs are nice but they are chaotically overwhelmimg. It feels like being greeted by a running river that never ends and then you just drown with all the info you acquired. I also noticed that I tend to like INFP males the most and there's just really something with them that makes them stand out the most for me.

52-year old INTJ here and I would totally agree with what you've said here. INFPs seem to be my favorite type. I married one, then after we divorced 8 years later (we are still good friends btw) then I dated another INFP for 8 years and we are still together. I seem to be drawn more to the NFs so I don't know any INTPs. I worked with one a couple of years ago and we really liked talking with each other but she WOULD get annoyed with my Te. But since I understood MBTI and cognitive functions, I taught her and she became more understanding. I probably had some INTP friends in college but that was so long ago and I didn't know MBTI back then so I'm not sure. My Mom was an INFJ and we would clash a little on the Fe/Te. Now, my best friend is an ENFP and my boss and ENTP and I really enjoy our conversations and we talk for hours. I never want our visits to end. I don't think that their Ne is too fast for me. I DO have to bring them back to the subject at hand though because they get off topic but my INFP girlfriend does the same thing. They all just make me laugh when they do that. I find it quite amusing and endearing. I just tell them, wait, let's get back to this for a minute and they are all like, okay. I really enjoy ISTJs as well. I have a good friend at work who is an ISTJ and we often talk politics, health and wellness, home projects, etc. I think we get along because of our two middle shared functions. We express our Te together at work via collaboration and then share out Fi values and likes and interests.

It’s nice for you to have a good relationship with an ESTP, they can be delightfully engaging!
My ESTP “friend” must be personality disordered. She can be a lot of fun but if she discerns even a hint of disapproval from anyone she can become quite nasty. She can be harmfully inconsiderate, passive-aggressive, and extremely critical of people who do not bend to her will.
I’m pretty laid back, but there are occasions when punctuality is very important for me; to show respect for others, and for my own comfort. She deeply resents even kind and tactfully framed urging to be on time. She has reacted with childish recalcitrance on more than one occasion. I have decided to keep her at arms length because I feel that she is predominately toxic. I don’t know why she continued to seek out my company, knowing that I feel so differently about social etiquette. Maybe she mistook my amenable nature for submission and was trippin’ on what she perceived as power over me? She got schooled the last time she went off on me.
I test as INTJ, ISFJ, and INFJ and in one instance, INFP. It depends on how the questions are worded on a particular test. I suspect that my dominant Judging function puts me at odds with her. That and her lack of interest in self-improvement.

I suspect that my vast life experience and strong drive towards self-improvement is reflected in my differing results.

@@elantaranggaha1815 INFPs tend to allow themselves to get pushed around by everyone, and they expect it from everyone because as I said they tend to get it from everyone. Often they do a lot for others and every once in awhile they want things done for them and if you can't do what they're wanting to needing they can get extremely upset. This happens even if they haven't done anything for you, as it has happened to me. My friend helps out his family and other friends, he would help me too if I ever asked, but I prefer to be independent and try to take care of my own needs myself, so I rarely ask anything of anyone. My friend is always helping everyone who needs the help, cleaning their house, fixing their PC, fixing their car, etc.
I'd just got a new PC and I didn't have all of my software installed yet, my games were the last thing I was planning on installing and not until the following month when I was upgrading from phoneline DSL service to fiberoptic internet service because many of those games are such a massive download that with DSL is can take hours if not days to download some of them.
My friend posted online where myself and our mutual friends could see that he was looking for someone to play a game with him, I was the only one who answered back explaining that I would but I don't have that game installed on my new PC yet and don't plan on installing it until next month were I can download it a lot faster with my new ISP.
My friend who does all of these favors for so many people he just wants this one little thing and no one would play the game with him and being that I was the only one who replied I became the focus of his anger. Being an INTJ we have what's referred to as, "Demon Memory," we find it very difficult to forgive and forget, so this situation nearly permanently ended our friendship, if it weren't for the fact that I've been learning about Jungian Analytical Psychology to understand why my brain works the way it works and why my friends' brains work they way they work he probably would've permanently been in a Demon Memory as someone I never care to speak with ever again.
But because I have been learning about Jungian Analytical Psychology I understand his point of view better and realize though he was blowing up at me it was only because he does so much for so many others and not a single person would do this for/with him and I just happened to be the only who responded who ended up being the target of his frustration.

@@elantaranggaha1815 Thank you very much for your reply, I do think I made a mistake about my friend's type though. My original post was talking about a friend who I thought was an INFP, I confused his type for ISFJ. But ISFJs aren't the only type known for, "covert contracts," where they do a lot of things for many people without telling anyone they expect favors in return and then get very upset when no one wants to do favors for them.
The main difference between ISFJs and INFPs they are both what many could consider, "Social Justice Warriors," INFPs have an ideal in their mind of how things should be based on their dominant Introverted Feeling (Fi) cognitive function, but they don't use their Fi as a judging function like the ISFJs do. The ISFJ has Fi Critic Function (the 2nd subconscious cognitive function is the person's judging function for INFP that function is Ni (Introverted iNtuition) for the ISFJ the 2nd subconscious function is Fi), so ISFJs have impossibly high moral standards that they themselves can't live up to, yet they judge everyone, including themselves based on their impossibly high moral standards, and that also leads to some arguments with my ISFJ friends.
I mentioned they are what a lot of people call, "Social Justice Warrior," but don't get me wrong, ISFJs and INFPs are not limited to a single political side, the ISFJs on the political right do the same things, just with different points of view. And being a, "Social Justice Warrior," though the term is often used as an insult it's actually a good thing, it's the duty of INFPs and ISFJs to show the rest of us what is moral, the problem is some times what's moral can't be agreed on because there's immoral outcomes no matter which options are chosen, but both are coming from a place of wanting to make society more moral.
Not to take away from this video, so I won't provide a link to this other video, but if you want to learn more about your type, the INFP look up a video titled, "Who are the INFPs," it's a long video, and very biting, because the guy who made the video is coming from a position that most people don't know about their own personality types there fore don't know their own strengths and weaknesses and therefore often unnecessarily limit themselves with their weaknesses instead of trying to overcome them. His INTJ version was just a biting but I found it very helpful.

There a few different gears with them. But can be most chill. One of my favorite people has been intp ISTJ both can be relaxed. Think they think about things and it's fun to think but they both can be relaxed.

    Interesting.
Typically am drawn to people who is very different from me. It will fascinate me to pick people's brain and learn from them.
I am also drawn to those who can have a synergistic conversation with me, to ping pong ideas with.
I can almost tell on our first interaction, who is which.

I'm an INTJ and I've had VERY few friends in my life (aside from dogs - I've always preferred their company to humans) and the only people I seem to be able to have meaningful relationships with at all are INFP's & INTP's. As an aside, is the dog / human bond (a?)typically strong with INTJ's for some reason?

my best friends are INTP and ENFP but they can both get really intense with their informing, I also really like ENTJs, I have never had an INFP friend yet and I find it quite difficult to interact with INFJs sometimes

INFJs are intellectually brilliant and chatting to a fellow Ni dom is awesome- we an can have our happy silences in between too and they get it. All INTJs should have an INFJ friend. I wish they were not so rare. Also, ENFJs are cool too as INTJs can hide in the shadows. ENFJs bring INTJs into the light. Personally though I think the INFJ type, make the best friends.

I'm an INTJ-T and my brother is an INTJ-A. We have very interesting conversations. We can be in the same room and not say much and it would'nt matter. We do need our space though- we are both really independent. I don't really have friends.
