I kinda cried on the part when you said younger INTJs tend to have miscalculated theories, it's hard when you build yourself up to a certain mindset and then growing up you realize that you were wrong all along and now you gotta deal with the inner changes. 😅 Well INTJs are built to adapt so there's a long road ahead

People don't understand when I say that I've lived multiple lives and what I mean is exactly what you mentioned, that I've constantly had to adapt and adjust as I age. Trust me when I say that I understand you 💯 INTJ, it's annoying to admit that you were wrong but that's the mark of an educated mind. Just like science, theories can be proven wrong at any moment and the result is usually advancement in humanity. Keep growing INTJ, you got this ✊

INTJ here ~ Love these videos that do such a good job in honouring the core essence of being an INTJ while breaking down the stereotype of the cold, autistic, robot INTJ.
As of the last couple years, I have grown to love and appreciate my Se, whereas when I was younger in my early 20's I undervalued it in favour of Te and Ni (I used to secretly wish I was an ENTJ without thinking about it in MBTI terms...)
But the more I think of it, Se (and also Fi) has always been a big part of my life - I love driving, snowboarding, dancing, raving, meeting interesting people, immersing myself in beauty. Things that aren't usually associated with being an INTJ yet are so much of what makes me, me.

Yes totally on same as another non-stereo type INTJ. The world sees only small glimpses of us in general and to be fair we like it that way I realize as I grow older. Seems INTJs have the ability to shift into so many personas no single person other than themselves will fully understand! 🤔🤷🏼‍♂️ I also accept and realize this is incredibly rare. Hiking, painting, reading/research, home renovations, psychology, museums, gardening and acting as life coach just a fraction of my interests…🤔😆

I'm a bit of an older INTJ, I used to work with this great guy who was just fun to be around. He had plenty of humor, and it rubbed off on me. We got along and had fun with the humor and I was able to get into it. Good times, wish he still worked there with us.
As an INTJ, sure it took a little bit of time to gain my trust first, but once that happened I was able to relax and be more open in our conversation. I naturally tend to be on the quiet side by default, not that that is really an INTJ thing, just part of me.
As it starts getting warmer out, I'll be running more and that will give me plenty of world sensing. I usually run for up to an hour and have multiple purposes for running. Engaging with the passers by is not really my thing, just a nod or a wave will do, especially since I'll have earbuds in.

And I'm doing a million different tiny projects at home and just ruminating - it feels like I have to make time to process all the experiences I've been through or I feel lost or nervous. When I was younger, I'd describe it as, "I can't hear my own voice." It's definitely gotten easier to pull myself out of excessive hermit mode as I've gotten older.

In that moment I know I have to do what I can to try to help get everyone in better spirits. In most cases I'll cook a bunch of food where every person gets at least one thing they love and I spend hours (if not days in some cases) cooking. Doing things like this helps me not to feel like an alien all the time and lets me laugh at myself when I do dumb stuff. Se lets me blow off steam by dancing around like a goofy teenager. INTJs become ESFPs when drunk. I know it because when I'm drunk I suddenly become willing to dance, sing karaoke, wrestle, hug people etc.
Also, yeah, INTJs can't be bullshited, not for too long, we smell the inconsistencies with the Se and then Ni is like a restless detective that won't stop until it solves the case. Being honest is the only way to go with an INTJ.

    Hello Jon
I found your channel this morning and I've been binge watching your videos. This video resonated with me the most on such a deep level and it's the first of its kind talking positively about Se in great detail.
I'm in my mid 20's (INTJ female) and have bounced back and forth between extreme Ni and extreme Se. In my teenage years, I had fantastic group of friends that encouraged me to develop Se & Fi to the point I was that outgoing girl in the most popular group. However, when I went off to university (majored in physics) and left all my friends behind, my personality flipped and I was too serious and anti-social. I lost so much of myself and people in my social circle. I was too critical, judgemental, uncompassionate and difficult to be around (Se was greatly neglected). Two years after graduation, I decided I hated the new me and wanted to bring back my teenage self.
I started small by signing up to my local gym. I - awkwardly at first - interacted with people and read a ton of books on human psychology. I learned to smile and polish my social skills. Additionally, working out in classes has helped me regulate negative emotions (Engaging Se). I slowly became more humorous, outgoing, less argumentive and fun to be around.
My family were so taken aback by the flip in my personality that they thought I met someone and was in love or something 😂!
Truly, developing Se is the greatest gift an INTJ can give to themselves. I feel much more human and connected to society than I was before.
I will add what you said about Se NOT working for itself and for Ni, Te & Fi is true. I usually won't start small talk unless I already decided before hand: "this is useful practice for my social skills, and maybe I can learn something from her".. it isn't just for the pleasure of small talk or killing time.
Side note: I subscribed and hope you keep blessing us with new videos. Thank you!

You trigger so much thoughts in me that I would love to have a really productive discussion with you. I guess like many other INTJs or in general interested people and viewers of your channel.
What you point out in this great video is why I often think I'm not an INTJ but at the same time nothing describes me better than being an INTJ.
But since I found the MBTI Spektrum/system/theory how ever you want to call it, I feel I found the second time an explanation why I think in ways that I think and perceive the world like I do.
The first time was when I made an Asperger-autism test and read many things about Asperger-autism.
I think both spectrums overlap in some ways.
I'm 28 and I know that I changed in the last 3 years extremely because of some life-changing events that makes me develop my Se immensely.
I feel deeply thankful and relaxed since then.

I spent most of my childhood as ESFP, I was noisy, active, I liked sport, attractions, I didn't like school, cuz I couldn't sit still. I was everywhere. But my childhood was horrible, later I hated my behavior, cuz I understood that I'm noisy, but I couldn't stop me. I had some points of INTJ behavior, but it was difficult to notice them. Later I become quite and private. In college I tried to open and I became ESFP again, I was hanging out a lot and I was doing stupid shit. Now I'm OK and I prefer being alone most of time, do my stuff, explore something and hung out with my close friends sometimes. It's so difficult to explain people that I'm not a crazy party girl, I was in a hard stress and I couldn't control myself. I also had problems to recognize my personality type, cuz I thought I'm prospective definitely. I'm 18 now and I feel like I woke up. I have some regrets, cuz I could do a lot and find out more, if I wasn't in a hard stress most of my life. I understood this thing right after I found out about cognitive functions, so it opened my eyes, I can feel fault for myself less. It would be nice if MBTI community was talking about "stress mode" more and stop devaluing the last cognitive function.

Welcome to adulthood my INTJ niece/nephew! Instead of saying that you were an ESFP as a child, let's instead say that you engaged with Se more as a child, which I relate to as well. I love playing sports, I love being outdoors in nature, and I do enjoy socializing (in small bursts). I also want to add that MBTI is not your identity, it's only a tool used for self-discovery, so who knows what type you actually are, and to be honest, it doesn't matter. As long as you continue to improve your life and your situation, that's the most important thing. Acknowledge that you have flaws, everyone does, what makes you different is how you engage with it. You're doing great, and you have your entire life to figure out who you truly are, so don't feel you need to rush. Life is about the experience and there really is no destination when it comes to self-improvement and understanding ✊

Se is so hard... wether it is trying or doing something, research or going to a concert or restaurant... It just is so extremely hard to find enjoyment when the mind says "this is what is done with this, this is fake, that is useless and I don't want to be here".
But then the situation where Fi comes in, suddenly Se is something that is easily engaged. Things such as aestethics, the beauty of something you appreciate, value and love. Nature or victorian architecture for example. Is it useful for what I do? No, but it does make the mind feel at ease that there IS something in this world to connect with instead of the Ni world we have in mind.

As you say, love how INTJs explore the world purposefully, connected, humanised and attuned by Se, making real what "could be" into "what is". Yet externally Se drives our cold, evil robot reputation, exploring the world only when Te decides we have good reason, engaging people only if Ni needs something or Fe decides they matter to us.
I didn't realise how internally, Se collects real world data, initiates projects, moderates our nerdy interactions and tries stuff out to seek Fi's approval for Ni's refined blueprints and planning then simplification / execution by Te.
I also didn't know that Se integrates so importantly, filtering social cues, and microexpressions and regulating appropriate INTJ behaviour. Appreciate these great insights as always, especially how hobbies within our big plan can bypass sensory overload.

Absolutely agree. My Se was incredibly underdeveloped around the time I met my current wife (ENTP) in my 20's. Fortunately, our love language is verbal sparring so after 17 years of being together I'm much better at interacting with people than I ever was before we met.
Admittedly, getting used to an ENTP took some time (especially for my poor battered Fi) but once I figured her out, we now get along famously. Really my only complaint day-to-day is not getting enough alone time.

Again wonderfully explained. Thank you! Three points that hit me good...1. Recently I would be wondering to myself, if any of my friends and family, have yet realized that I am proactively practising (thus growing) my advance social engineering knowledge and skills on or with them. I do think that about ten (10) specific ones (of them) realize exactly what I am doing, while the others are clueless 😂 .....2. During COVID 19, from Nov 2020, I joined a Walking Group in my Community, and started walking 3 to 5 to 8 miles, once a week.....Recently, I have added on 5 miles, first thing in the morning, or last thing in the evening, three to four more times a week, for a total of about 4 to 5 times a week out in the community walking. This has made my SE-ing a wonderful thing, as I interact daily now with several of my community members, but, still have my long work hours, and when 'Mama leaves without Notice' spent mainly alone! It is wonderful! 3. It took me years to develop a strong healthy (thus wealthy) and consistent SE-ing Mode in my life, and I am now living in the blooming stage of such a development. I call it 'Diamond Blooming Living'. PG!

    Spitting truths today,
6:05 that would explain why I prefer shorter weekend getaways to weeklong vacations...
6:35 ... chores are absolutely the worst and I never actually get my place spotlessly clean, I just don't even notice that there is a backscratcher in the middle of the room. But this is why I have 2 boxes of soylent in my pantry, instant food in a pinch.
11:05 ...I'm getting better but like 2 days a week is usually my max, but I have found that staying off the internet speeds up the recovery. Which is odd since that's basically just Se'ing quietly.
11:40 okay, I can't do raves or concerts but yes just being there and in the moment is a core part of my being. INTJs are surprisingly spontaneous and go with the flow, it's probably one of the easiest ways to tell apart ISTJ and INTJ.
Okay I am guilty of saying you can meet INTJs all over the place. I think it's more that INTJs don't loiter, in a sense you don't "meet INTJs they meet you" as unless they have the objective of being social and meeting people they are cold, aloof, focused, and take a good 30 seconds to warm up to a sudden conversation partner. Which likely means the best way to meet an INTJ is to be introduced to one, like if I had higher quality relationships with my family and didn't need to constantly maintain a friend group I would be super hard to meet in public. But it's true the vast majority of INTJs I have met were at college or at work, they are hard to notice, hard to approach, and objective focused.

HA! Great video as always! I did know the workings and the effects, didn't know the actual name of the thing - Se. I'm at a point where I can pass as "normal" among others. It's incredibly draining, and I can only do it for a few hours at full capacity, but today I can go to a social event and just be "normal", even charming and charismatic if needed (that needs extra energy, but heck, it's kinda fun and empowering doing it because, well, you can). But like you said, until those blueprints (spot on analogy btw), those flowcharts on how to interact with other people are at production level, it's hard. I was a fountain of awkwardness and a social faux-pas machine in my early years. I'm cringing just thinking about those days... But it's kinda strange, I cannot pinpoint exactly when that happened, but I distinctly remember being puzzled and confused by displays of emotion from others in one day, to be completely aware of the most minuscule body expressions and what they meant the next one. That was an awesome upgrade to my firmware, to be able to tell in real time when someone is getting bored, mad or sad with what I'm doing or saying, as opposed to find out a month later... That improved my social dealings dramatically! Yeah, young INTJ's out there? Just be patient, it'll come eventually

@@justcallmejon22 I've read that forgetting to take care of ourselves is also due to demon Si. Since Si is functioning mostly to preserve comfort and safety, having demon Si means we recognize the need for comfort but we can easily discard it, most especially if it unnecessarily hinders progress. That's why it's easy for INTJs to take risks and personal sacrifices. It just doesnt bother them as much... or at all. Adding the blindspot Fe to the mix, we work with zero heed for neither attachments nor comfort. Thus why they claim INTJ to be the coldest among the 16. Sadly, they forget that we have Se in our primary stacks. We can be fun. We are funny.

Seriously though, as an older INTJ I think you nailed it once again. I've always expressed having low Se as that feeling of, "I know how about 90% of situations I can predict finding myself in will go, and I only ever need to "check in" with the sensory world to make sure those predictions are still accurate." But Se definitely does a lot of the "human" work in the background when you start adding people to your plans.
When I'm gaming and raiding, I recognize that it's Se who is observing everyone else and allowing me to do the "magic plays" where it just seems like I happened to be in the right spot at the right time, when in reality it's Se telling Ni, "This person tends to do X, this person favors Y, and this person clearly doesn't understand Z or A so this is the most likely outcome," to which Ni's response is, "Execute plan XXX-3, we'll worry about explaining everyone's misunderstandings later." On the flip side of that, the low Se is also the reason I can spend 3-4 days in advance looking at video guides and clear examples of stuff and Ni will still feel reluctant to actually go do it, even though both Te and Se have already acknowledged that you have to actually test your plan before you can know if it even works or needs a tweak.
I'll also attribute Se to being the reason INTJs always seem calm in a pinch. It's because logically we understand that panicking will just make the ship sink faster in the long run, so it's almost like a second nature instinct when people start freaking out to just breathe, observe the situation, understand the objectives, evaluate what's feasible, and in a sense go into triage mode. Whenever there was an unexpected "crisis" my girlfriend would always ask, "How can you always be so calm when something like this happens?" and my answer has always been, "Because I know you're going to panic initially, and if we both panic, nothing gets done. So I just focus on remaining calm and understanding what needs to be done. If a freak out is warranted, I'll probably have that happen later when it feels like I can make the time for it," and that recognition of needing to remain calm I attribute to Se, cause believe me once the situation has calmed down a bit, Fi is definitely going to come back and say, "So, you ready to freak out now? It's fine, no one will notice if you do it now."
Se is also the attribute that really does keep our darker humor in check. Fi may be able to tell that a topic of conversation or idea makes someone uncomfortable, but Se is like the final check to say, "Maybe don't make that joke RIGHT now... hold on and see if the vibe changes." Ultimately, as you said, getting in touch with your Se and knowing how to regulate and incorporate it, instead of fighting it constantly, it is a much more fulfilling experience all around.

So, Mama needs to be... motivated to 'act'. That means I need data. Either from my Ni or my Se, I am lacking data anyhow. Feels like this video is more of a motivating speech for INTJs 😁 (which I also believe is a good thing) 💪.
I'm curious on your thoughts though (gonna be long, sorry):
Suppose an early 20s INTJ, who's ever since his school years terrible at sports involving balls, but do pretty well in swimming. At first he felt like he's left all behind with his other friends excelling in soccer, volleyball teams, etc.
Then one day, at age 14, he tried airsoft guns, and quickly liked it despite missing a few shots at the range. It all went back to him at how he also enjoyed playing arcade shooting games since kindergarten.
It became his desire to try and be more excel at those 3 (swimming, airsoft, arcade) to this present day, because he believes that he may not be able to do good in ball sports compared to other people, but he can try to be better at other sports that people either not do much, or not as good as they are with balls. At the same time, he's also seeking for his 4th "sport".
Does that have anything to do with the Se development fueled by Fi and Ni?

Anything in life can be related to a cognitive function but humans are all complex, therefore we like different things. It sounds like swimming, airsoft, and arcade are just something that you enjoy and the rest don't click with you. My INTP friend used to be the biggest gamer when we were teens and haven't touched it as an adult, whereas I'm still a huge gamer. Se is just the function of engaging with something so it is being engaged with but it's difficult to type se to liking something. It can be Fi, or Te telling you to continue it. I hope that makes sense ✊

Was definitely NOT in my 20s. And most definitely people thought I was autistic as a child and young teen.
It's crazy how different an INTJ can be from 20 to mid 40s. Especially if we have been forced to develop Se.

My husband literally has dragged me out if the house every week for SE experiences. For 14 years!!!. And I have done zumba since I was 18 years old . Still shows up as clumsiness constantly though 😂. My husband changes my phone screen protector every 5 months as it gets dropped constantly .

Your ISTP husband sounds like my ISFJ friends and family members. To them, we probably look like grown babies how little we know how to engage with the world 😂

I tried beer, wine, and cigarette. Just for experience. But I didnt feel any good about them, so basically I never used them again. But I’m addicted with ice so I can tell the diference of the water’s taste and it’s fun that most of people can’t 😂😂😂

I learned to love beer because it allows baby Se to come out without having to fight the rest of the functions 😂

I don't necessarily think of myself as a conspiracy theorist but it's more like I'm not going to just follow some concept or instruction just because someone in "authority" says so. It simply MUST make sense to me. I used to talk to everybody in all the cliques when I was in high school and at university. I also am a huge goof ball. 🤓I explore Se by jogging, taking a walk or being drunk. 😅

Always happy to hear about another INTJ that's a social chameleon as well! I think being a goofball is part of an INTJ's charm and being drunk really does bring our ESFP side out 😅

It's honestly the only life that I know how to live so it doesn't bother me much. My relationships are usually fine as well because the people I surround myself with understand my introversion 🙂

would filling and organizing physical things (the physical labor of cleaning and organizing not the creation of systems) be an Se task?
I find filing things to be unpair with smalltalk with people who have no interest in the deeper of things or in learning in a loud environment, when it comes to draining me of energy

    • @justcallmejon22
      @justcallmejon22  Před rokem +1

Yes, organizing the physical world is definitely a Sensory task. INTJs tend to get overwhelmed by Se easily so we tidy up as much as possible 😁
