I was in middle school and high school when Jordan was winning his last 3 titles. I watched almost every single game on TV during those 3 seasons on that Chicago News channel WGN. I can tell you that it was rare watching a Jordan game where he DIDN'T roast his competition. That's why there are so many youtube videos of "Jordan Roasts this guy or that". He literally destroyed everyone, every game.

Every kid in the 90s tried the Jordan fade away. Every one of them. No one is emulated like that today.
What people don’t consider about Jordan is that he wasn’t dominating a game by pulling up and draining 3 after 3. He’d kill you with his footwork, and mid range, and then occasionally blow past you for a dunk. He’d consistently drop 45-50 points in the most difficult way, as opposed to 13 3s and 11 FTs.

Exactly. People forget he put pride in his fundamentals and footwork. Like Ted said, lol. His first step was crazy quick. If he faked you, forget it. He's either scoring on the whole team around the rim or getting a dunk. He consistently scored 40-60 points in the most physical way at times. Don't get wrong. His 3 would shine at times, too, but not on 11-20 attempts like today. It would be 5-7 at best. It was still accurate, though. For someone who didn't focus on 3, still averaging 40% is kinda nuts. That's why he the goat.

The reason MJ is the GOAT is that he could do whatever he wanted on the court and the majority of defenders were helpless to do anything about it. MJ's game was the most graceful I've ever seen, if you watch highlights of his career watch how he landed. He was like a cat, he always stuck the landing. Which is a very rare talent.

@@Los150 the Pistons weren't as old as everyone makes it out like. When he was losing to the Celtics they had a top ten team of all-time and he was a one man show. The Bulls took a few years to get the talent around him and MJ had to mature as a player. Once that happened it was Katy bar the door! Once MJ matured as a player, there were no weaknesses in his game.

Its crazy. In no other sport that I follow do I hear a player's contemporaries speak about a guy with such and respect and legit fear over the realization that they aren't on his level. No one speaks about Brady, Messi, LeBron with the same kind of fear. I watched the Bulls on WGN. And I’m from Arkansas. I still gets chills when I think about the lights going out and that Alan Parsons Project music playing when the Bulls were being announced. Michael Jordan is THE GOAT and I can’t believe that LeBron tried to claim that title for himself. You don’t declare yourself THE GOAT as it is a title that can only be bestowed upon you. And it has been bestowed…to Michael Jordan. I don’t think anyone else will ever come close. Anyway, I miss those days tremendously. Michael Jordan and The Bulls were a huge part of making a 5’3” white girl want to be practicing or playing the game of basketball at all times when I wasn’t watching it. I’m thankful for growing up during the era of Michael Jordan.

Most of them just hold grudges that just ended up as hate, Spurs is the last team that i knew in the recent decades who targeted Miami and Miami alone to beat them in the Finals because of their shortcoming. MJ hold grudges and turn it to motivation on a daily or per game basis. When Shaq/Penny/Grant Magic eliminated MJ theirs a trash talking that happened like "45 is not 23" something like that and he is not in basketball shape then as always he took it personal, the next year they swept them in the Eastern Conference Finals and in post game interview he still talking about last years failure. A lot of people don't realize that whenever Jordan shot any meaningful volume (more than 1.5 attempts), he shot at today's standard.. This includes 38% on 3 attempts in 1990 regular season, or 39% on 4 attempts for the 93' Playoffs, or 43% on 5 attempts in the 92' Finals.. Notice how the efficiency increases with volume - that's what happens when great shooting form gets in rhythm, so Jordan would have a lot of "shrug" games in today's higher volume 3-point format.

I cut my teeth on Bird and Magic in the collegiate NCAA finals. I watched Artis Gilmore (a completely under-respected big man) struggle with a completely bush-league squad in the late 70-'s and early 80's. I was an absolutely huge Lakers fan because of Kareen, COOP! and Jamaal Wilkes (whose bent elbow shooting style I tried to duplicate for years). And then Michael strolled into my home town. What can I say, it was like the 1985 Bears, but for 13 years. After 1991, it was like Walter Payton (MJ) had everything around him, a REAL team, not for one season, but time after time. To this day, I cry watching videos of Walter and MJ, for the latter because he is the GOAT and for the former because with the talent he deserved around him in his peak, he would have been the GOAT. And let's be clear, for better or worse (I do not want to support the leagues and the level of damage the players suffered), in both the NFL and NBA, offenses are allowed by the rules to abuse the game, and defensive aggression (which of course involves a much higher degree of contact and VIOLENCE) is aggressively penalized. MJ played with 1) hand checking, 2) excessive contact rarely being called, 3) travelling was real (oh please, mf, shut up, everyone gets 3-4 steps to the bucket now, it was considered insane to get TWO from 1990-2003), just as in the NFL you had "They Call Me Assassin", very late hits, head targeting, stickum (look it up, kids), and so on.
So, the point is not "Let's bring back the level of violence of the 80's and 90's." My favorite Chicago Bears players DIED horrible, painful deaths from their injuries. DO NOT BRING IT BACK. But don't pretend that you can compare racking up MJs averages (considered per game, for his position in the league, surviving those years of constant physical VIOLENCE that ) with LeBron, who didn't have to deal with ANY that, especially after 2003. Or even Kareem, who arguably had an environment even worse than Jordan in some ways (hard to say who was more physical, the Celtics or the Bad Boys Pistons).
Oh so YOU get the Pistons ACTUALLY got their style of defense from the Celtics huh...
That point can get a bit ignored because Jordan did get calls. Jordan was so great he got special treatment from the refs and that can be confirmed by everyone, his position as the best is confirmed by many, too.

It tells you something, when a player of a caliber, like Ray Allen, tells you that MJ would average 45 today. He averaged 30+ every season when hand check was allowed. These days he'd average 30 only from FT. Not to add that he'd surely still sunk, do mid shots and add to his 3 points attempts. Kids today, that only watched NBA from 2010, don't understand the mentality of the greatest player that ever stepped on the basketball court. He'd do anything to win. Only Kobe can be mentioned in same sentence as MJ, because he had that same mentality. R.I.P. Kobe.

At 7:20, Ray Allen admitted a fact that many don't like to hear or admit. The NBA is a different game now than it used to be, guys average most of their points from free throws. This makes it so that they are being allowed to just go freely to the basket, or freely shoot wide open shots for fear of foul trouble from an opposing team. Because they call foul on everything nowadays, why do we think "flopping" is a thing. The new rules on what a flagrant and flagrant 2 foul is, is just sad. The fact that the players averaged the points they did in the 80-90s is highly commendable, and those numbers would almost double if they had the current NBA rules.
As amazing as 40-50ft 3-pointers are, tomahawk dunks every other possession, and some cool cross-overs with hesitations and step backs; it is actually proving that maybe, just maybe the game is become a little soft. No need to be a 2-way player anymore, just try to dazzle with offense, maybe a "chase down block or two" for the highlight reel, win-lose-or draw. Who cares if you win if you got the highlight reel, right. Different age and era unfortunately. Everyone wants to shoot the pill, yet most don't want to put in work stopping the other team.

Robinson was so Fucking good it’s insane how ahead of his time his game was and more people should bring him up bc he’s basically a blue print for guys like Paul pierce. I’m also kinda a mega fan bc I’ve been using him and ray allen in nba showtime since that game came out for ps1 (basically 3d knockoff nba jam that was at the arcade and on PlayStation lol)
He was very good but he never realized his potential. He was supposed to be the next great one and even at his peak in the NBA he was never anywhere near as good as say Grant Hill who was hampered by injuries. Those two were supposed to carry the league after MJ. As much as I liked Glenn Robinson he deserves at least a good share of the ire he got. He should have been much better.

Jordan and Kobe are in a room by themselves and the lights are turned on. And in the other room is about 20 others with LeBron shining the brightest. And that's just how it is.
Here’s why Jordan would average 50 if he played in todays game.
1) The players today would not have him as an influence to their games. So Kobe would t exist, Iverson, D-Rose, and on and on. The game would be 10 years behind where it is today.
2) Jordan would still be Jordan.
3) All the modern rules would set the GOAT loose on a league full of lesser players. He would be unstoppable.
