    I'm the sister of someone who is deaf, she has been deaf since she was 18 months old, I learned to sign before I could talk due to it. My mother picked my name because she was watching Children of a lesser god while waiting to deliver. I am proud to have my name, it symbolizes great strength. I too was a victim from the time i was 12 to a few months after my 19th birthday. I never told anyone for 7yrs. It's not easy, But once you get that first dropping of the bomb out, it gets easier. Anyone who is struggling with any form of abuse should know, it's not just tall tales, people are there for you to reach out to, you just need to take that first step to taking your own personal power back. I look up to Marlee Matlin a lot, she is a very strong woman, and if I one day end up with the acting career i've dreamed about, I hope i can work with her.

    It makes me so upset that this lady had the audacity to call Marlee handicapped. She could do more than that lady ever could, she's won awards, she was on Dancing with the Stars, and all that lady ever does is sit there and make biased judgements about people.. The only thing that makes her different is that she can't hear and that hasn't held her back from making amazing accomplishments

      Deaf people however constitute a linguistic and cultural minority and doesn’t see themselves as disabled. The disability only occurs when not getting access to an interpreter in the hearing world. Otherwise they are disabled in the deaf community. They can do anything that hearing persons can except of hearing.

    Why does her interpreter always embellish what she says? It's annoying. At 3:15 he says, "But, I don't know the statistics." All she signs is "but" and shakes her head. Even interpreting the non-verbal cues, the most he should interpret is "but, I don't know." Throwing in words like "statistics" when she said nothing of the sort is speaking for her, not interpreting what she says.

    • @NaeOnYT
      @NaeOnYT Před 8 lety +5

      I agree with Lilia; I think they've been working together for so long
      that they've built up a sort of repertoire and understanding. For
      instance, around 2:00, she signs, "I knew it was wrong," and Jack says
      that. When she nods, he repeats the sentence, even though she didn't
      sign it again. There are probably some body language cues and quirks in her language that he's gotten used to translating, and it seems like she's fine with it.

      @KisDraga Před 7 lety +8

      He's not just translating her ASL but interpreting what she's trying to convey. That and he knows her well enough to understand the undertone and nuances to what she's saying. He does a great job. Don't forget she reads lips. She knows what he's sayings as he interprets her words. As rare as it may be she has corrected him when he has misinterpreted or stumbled over something she was trying to say. They are an amazing team.
