- 🔰This work is a perfect example of a community coming together to create something beautiful. Iness (the narrator) commented in one of my previous uploads and after some discussion, she offered her voice to narrate this video and in my opinion, she did a bloody good job. Let me know what you think of this video and please be kind (pun intended)

🔰Be Kind by Charles Bukowski
we are always asked
to understand the other person's
viewpoint
no matter how
out-dated
foolish or
obnoxious.
one is asked
to view
their total error
their life-waste
with
kindliness,
especially if they are
aged.
but age is the total of
our doing.
they have aged
badly
because they have
lived
out of focus,
they have refused to
see.
not their fault?
whose fault?
mine?
I am asked to hide
my viewpoint
from them
for fear of their
fear.
age is no crime
but the shame
of a deliberately
wasted
life
among so many
deliberately
wasted
lives
is.
This is Iness, and I wanted to express my gratitude after reading your honest and beautiful comments. I personally love O'Bedlam's voice and I don't think anyone can represent Bukowski as well as he does. The brilliant narration of his unique bass voice makes it intimidating for anyone to put their own spin on a Bukowski's poem. But this is without counting on Illneas' artistic genius. I think he is incredibly brave, on top of being so skilled, to try new methods and allow for new perspectives to unfold. 'Be kind' for me is about the daily frustration of silencing myself for fear of hurting people in my life who can not bear the cold truth. It is a fight between disapproval and empathy. It's a bittersweet and alienating feeling that I feel honored to share with you. This unconventional collaboration comes from a place of love, passion and vulnerability and I really hope you can relate to it. Much love to Illneas, and this gold community who is seriously adding so much to this channel.
Thank you very much for your good work. Indeed the voice of O'Bedlam is incredible and conveys the message very well but that doesn't mean that there aren't other ways of reciting his poems. You put his work into another perspective and that's also a good way of reflecting on the art of poetry instead of having constantly the same style. You can also recite poems or texts from other writers. I agree on Ilneas, his work is awesome and especially in these dismal times we really need it. Too few people enjoy the art of poetry in our modern world so this kind of CZcams is needed in my opinion. May I ask which other poets you really like?
I thought your recital was superb. illneas does indeed masterfully play with our expectations and Tom's performances are difficult to compete with. However, you brought a fresh dynamic that was oh so very moving. I hope you guys collaborate again. Be safe, take care & thank you for sharing your talent with us.💙
Yes, you are right, O'Bedlam's voice is to many people the main, if not only voice they associate with Bukowski's poems. I also thought the same before watching this, but then your voice just changed things for me. It sincerely confused me to hear someone else read Charles' material, that exact feeling made me able to relate to the poem. I was able to relate to my suffering, as opposed to just heating about someone else's pain.
Honestly, thank you for this.
Hope to here you more often too. (Not saying O'Bedlam should be kicked off. They are like Rock and air. O'Bedlamis more like a rigid and strong speaker with his bass, like a mountain that announces its presence to someone, and Iness is more of a free speaker, with her smooth voice, like a breeze that passed through someone.)
'It sincerely confused me to hear someone else read Charles' material, that exact feeling made me able to relate to the poem. I was able to relate to my suffering, as opposed to just heating about someone else's pain. ' That was all I ever hoped for. I am smiling from ear to ear.
@@ThePatchUniverse Absolutely. Thank you for appreciating difference. This attitude is what any creative person wishes to feed from to give the best of themselves.
"they have aged badly because they have lived out of focus" *the camera unfocuses* This is brilliant!
hahah you noticed it, cookie for you
@@illneas you are just incredible. i've nothing left to say.
Just a small editing trick, I'm not that great. Say something

Hey man, I write thought journals. Here's an example of one of my pieces. Would be cool if you could put it in a video or find a narrator for it. I feel like it would fit your channel.
~ Infected ~
“One day in this life you realise you are infected with the condition of being an outsider. The symptoms are revealed to you gradually. As you walk the neighbourhoods of normality you realise your heart yearns for something else. Stability and security only give you a feeling of sadness. You have no interest in the contract of life offered to you. As you stare at the rows of houses and green lawns and shiny cars, as you look up uninterested at career ladders before you, as you stare wistfully into space in the supermarket queue, you gradually begin to realise that something isn’t quite right about it all. Every ounce of your being rejects the things you were told to desire. What gives you fulfilment simply isn’t available in their stores or on their menus. You have no interest in material riches or status. Their television shows and newspapers are toxic poison to your mind. You are allergic to their conventions and expectations. The suits and ties don’t fit you. What is important to them, to you seems meaningless and trivial. In your world adventure and exploration and art rank above all else. Yes, accept it: you have the alien madness - the condition of being an outsider. You are infected. Do not trouble to even try and cure yourself, it will only make you worse. No, no, no: forget the therapists, forget the sensible advice, forget trying to fit into a society which doesn’t fit you. Do not trouble yourself. Here is what you shall do:
Let the infection take over. Let your eyes become bloodshot with blinding passion. Let your skin be shed - let that heart of yours become filled with poetry and madness. This is it: you were never one of them anyway, and the sooner you accept you never will be, the more powerful your mutant soul will become. You will liberate yourself from society and walk those streets with a rare strength and joy - a feeling of freedom not known or understood by those who define themselves in groups. The world around you will glisten with magic - you will see things they can’t see; do things they can’t do; go places they can’t go. You will attract strange glances and stares - sometimes in secret admiration, sometimes in fear. You will terrify some and inspire others beyond belief - and as the infection spreads further, you will grow stronger and stronger, fiercer and fiercer. Nothing will be able to hinder you. Things like isolation and rejection will only fuel your desire further. No cage or poacher will be able to capture your wild heart. You will be unstoppable like a storm; you will be impenetrable like a mountain. You will live the life of a fearless adventurer and go to the grave knowing that your life was lived with absolute fullness. The flowers around your grave will blossom with an exotic beauty; the birds will sing songs about your adventures at your headstone. You will have been totally consumed by your passion. You will have stayed happily infected until the end of your days. You will have died knowing that this world could never find a cure for your beautiful madness."
I make stuff on photoshop, I'd love to make something with you (@xrciist)
Well I write poetry myself.
The heavy tone is missing...it's not all about the words /lyrics...you need heavy voice for bukowski's poems
Really love Tom's voice but the lady who narrated here, deserves great credit, made everything sound more gentle, with hint of reality, well done to her and all!!
I didn't like her voice.
Me either.
Boo, bring Tommy back onstage
I think there is one more good voice for reading Charles Bukowski better then any other, It's Charles Bukowski voice. Why the hell people want it less authentic? We need Tom as much as we need dildoes.
I really enjoyed the narrators voice, it was fitting for this poem. Helped to receive it a softer message rather than an ominous warning. Keep stepping out. This was very good.
Much appreciated, we thank you
Agreed! In music I tend to prefer male voices, but in my taste a woman's voice is the best fit for poetry.
she speaks the words slowly
carefully, hiding hints of home in her tongue
tiptoeing around the vowels and phrases
running from the place she's from
her accent a current, strong and fierce
like a lightning striking down-
like a river longing to meet the sea
I am in love with this comment
Your comment is better for me than the reading on the video. Did you make it up? Or is it from someone else?
Your comment, it is artistic
But a blind painter paints only in inaccuracies.
Her home, she carries in her voice,
Bold and proud.
The words are quietened, perhaps, yes
But it is not shame of homeland.
It is reverence, for the words.
I wanted to disagree in the form of a normal comment, but yours was so beautifully phrased, i could not help but write something of my own 😅.
Peace.
I read this comment more than 10 times and yet it feels like I didn't give it the time it deserves. Your words.. The way you let your soul speaks and express its self..
Ppl who can put words together to make a beautiful masterpiece are rare. You're unique. I wish you happiness in your life❤️ your words warmed my heart and I thank you for that

Beautiful. Her soothing voice and your calming way portraying everything worked out really well
I agree too
Thank you for giving me a chance to evolve, much appreciated
Her voice is soothing but voice of Tom O'bedlam remains the best
Shivam tbh, it feels kind of weird with out him
@@rodgri2378 very true
What other poems other than Do Not Stand on My Grave and Weep are narrated by him ?
@@Mira59771 You can find his works on the SpokenVerse youtube channel! He plenty to choose from!
@@Mira59771 there are some for certain , but my memory is not helping today .
His voice is incredibly touching .
Reminds me of Leonard Cohen's voice .
Oh, my. This is going to be intense! From the (stunning) choice of haunting piano music, to the seemingly straightforward poem that asks more than it gives, to the very promising shot posted of the beach with radio transmitter (?) and solitary figure, I have a feeling this is going to be a wonderful but unsettling experience! I am sure we are all rooting for the new narrator too! Oh, my, oh, my! 💙
To everyone in the comment section : Stay safe, we can't afford to lose you
Vaibhav Thank you. You stay safe too, my friend.
Mathmatically they're is a better chance of dying of the flu and pneumonia each year. But we live in a post-fact age. Clickbait headlines (does anyone even read past the first paragraph? Or even the same sentence? They don'nt. Just millions of click bait sites with promoting fear and greed and base emotions. Learn to think critically and reason
Stay safe as well mate.
@@tonywalton1052 This comment is misleading. There are villages in Italy right now in which each household has lost a grandparent or parent and you are still comparing it to the flu. You can argue that media over-dramatize the situation and I would agree probably. But don't be offensive to the people who have lost loved ones because you like conspiracy theories. Read the facts before you speak.
@@tonywalton1052 You don't think coronavirus is serious even though there is no known cure and so many people in so many countries are dying from it? Nobody here was speading panic or anything like that. My friend recently lost her mother to corona and her disabled father is in the ICU because of it. You are being so insensitive and ignorant. The media makes people panic, I agree, but this *is* an issue and people have to acknowledge it.
I'm shaking.
On April 12, I take another year. another year, which I would see passing too quickly, no doubt. Boring? Fascinating? The time doesn't care. I'm getting old. And the only thing I can disappointingly do is open my eyes. Watch through another point of view. Watch and be kind.
I'm shaking.
Fuck man. This is good. I dance, have since a young boy, and I’m keenly aware of how we waste our lives. I would dance, and learned dances to show people in hopes of making them happy or even making friends, but you’ll find there’s literally nothing else that people want to see less than you dance. And that’s all my life is really, my entire life is just one long dance. And because I haven’t given up on my love of dance, now I just primarily live in solitude, because I’ve run away from everyone too busy wasting their time on everything but me, and now I find myself wasting my time on everything but them.
I have never heard of Bukowski before. He has managed to take thoughts out of my brain and eloquently arrange words into emotional strength. Thank you for sharing. Beautiful!
Thank you for another beautiful video! Iness, your voice is just perfect for this.
You go girl🧚
Yes , go far away and NEVER return .•°
Charles Bukowski, one of my favorite poets ❤️
It sounds like the voice of an Ancient sea-goddess.
her voice is amazing and so are the shots, the piano, and mostly the feeling... very well done, as always. you truly know how to transmit emotion through art.
Miss that bass in the voice. That gives depth to bukowski
Ajay Koyimuttal i have to agree with that
True but she has something he hasn't
@@Liza33650 yes, more estrogen 😂
I think you're referring to Tom O'Bedlman, Bukowski doesn't have a relatively low voice
@@weinershnitzel5498 lmfao
I've been thinking about this very topic for the last couple of months and this is such a concise way of putting my thoughts in a short but understandable way. Thank you for this post!
Incredible video. I've seen a lot of your poetry videos, but just after this one, I wanted to write a comment. How you combine words and frames, music and meaning - this is the real perfect art. Thank you for such a work. Now there is more and more dirt and vulgarity on CZcams. Therefore, such videos become even more valuable.
Great video. I didn't mind the narrator, she did a stellar job in my opinion. Thanks for another great piece of content!
Kindness can never be forgotten it will always come back to you in many ways
I really liked this narrator’s voice! Though I must admit all the narrators in these videos are amazing - they really communicate the emotion and gravity of each poem, and imbue it with their own character. Visuals are beautiful too!
Beautiful work of art as always :') Iness indeed has something special about her narrating. I have some words I'd so love somebody to narrate, I am not gifted enough do so..
Keep sharing this food for soul!
I’m absolutely in love with your channel!! Please continue doing what you are doing! Thank you thank you thank you for 🙏🙏🙏
Love your channel illneas, especially the stuff you do with Bukowski - my favorite poet by far. Please keep it up! :)
Her voice was sharply elegant as if it were a glass sword, cutting with grace with her words. I hope you could feature her more often but on different pieces too! But for me, O’Bedlam truly gives a Bukowski-esque vibe.
Loved the readers voice. Great channel. Keep up the great work, and thanks.
Thank you for your kind words, it means a lot to me.
Outstanding, outstanding content, guys.
Beautiful video, the voice is really soothing and I found the combination of voice + images of the sea really good
This is so peaceful. Thank you❤️
Incredible work!! Loved it!
Thank you ,this is beautiful!
I freaking love her narration. Not only is she is a wonderfully skilled reader with a beautiful voice but the contrast between her soft voice and the sheet gruffness of a Bukowski poem creates this beautiful kind of synergy... it's almost like she's allowing, or creating, or opening up dozens of new interpretations for the words. Like she's looking at the world beyond the little Bukowski circle and telling them, "Come in."
Am I gushing too much? Probably. But I flipping love hearing such a different voice than normally narrates his work. Wonderful work.
This is beautiful, well done. I've always enjoyed your videos and now as I'm going into my 4th week of isolation alone poetry is one of the things that's helping me the most.
oh my gosh, her voice is gorgeous! so sweet and calming, I think her voice is perfect for this poem and i sure hope to hear more of her!!! xoxo
Everyone has beautiful voices, can we just appreciate them both?! They all deserve so much 💖
I can't believe what she said.
I can't believe the way it sounds so pure..
I don't want to believe that it's real feels so generic.
What language is that my ears can not see?
She didn't know how powerful her voice could be, shattering the silence with such greed.
If it was only ment for me, how much sweeter it would be.
I hate the echoes that rip at my thoughts, never the same again.
Don't put your trust in the sounds you hear, the reverberating is lost in translation.
Then she speaks again, but again not to me. Just noise with no matter, no distance, no meaning.
Just words I can not see...
This is comforting to me. Thanks. Stand up as truth 💯 great voice by the way
Today I found Illneeas. Thnaks for the beautful poemas, and videos and music, What a treasure

nice calming voice, great context :))
I'm in love with Iness' voice 😭 this is so beautiful, both the combination of Bukowski and her voice but also the idea of you, collaborating with your followers/subscribers/watchers. Honestly, I didn't expect this wholesomeness. What a great surprise.
Iness did an absolutely awesome job j delivering the poem. It just reminds me that I have never listened to Bukowski being read by woman, and turned out it was freaking amazing.
I find the poem is kind of fit too. Especially because it's narrated by a woman. Let's be real, women are always the most oppressed. We are told to be kind to the men, if we do not want anything happens to us. We are dictated our whole life. But now, we do not need to be kind to people who can not and will not be kind to us. I love how this video has bit of feminism spirit (maybe not as you intended, but I feel like that).
Great, awesome job, Iness 💙
Thank you, for this video Illneas, I love O'Bedlam and Bukowski himself, but Iness just skyrocketing to be my top narrator of your video 😂👌🏼

You do fantastic work.💚🔥
Bukowski is something else. He is like a stubborn person who wouldn't think twice before saying something. But what he says makes sense. He writes his experiences unapologetically and that is what I love most about him.
Okay, I feel attacked right now. LOL. Great work brother. Charles Bukowski is hands-downa legend.

well done. thank you
illneas, you've heard it all before from me but this is so beautiful. It's so poignant I couldn't help but shed a tear at the end. Stop doing that to me, man!!! Iness, your voice is a joy to listen to. You complemented - no, enhanced - the production with hypnotic grace. I think it was a brilliant idea to use a female voice with European (?) inflection to narrate Bukowski. It's a first on YT, as far as I know, and it brought out all the poignancy buried in Bukowski's sometimes rather barbed observations. You guys brought his Bluebird out today. I love the setting, the shots, all the usual compliments again, illneas! Understated brilliance. A thing of beauty that will be discussed in lecture theatres one day. Thank you. I do feel rather miserable now but thank you, nevertheless!!! 😂 🤣All my love. Be safe. Your friend, John💙
