    we are always asked
    to understand the other person's
    viewpoint
    no matter how
    out-dated
    foolish or
    obnoxious.
    one is asked
    to view
    their total error
    their life-waste
    with
    kindliness,
    especially if they are
    aged.
but age is the total of
    our doing.
    they have aged
    badly
    because they have
    lived
    out of focus,
    they have refused to
    see.
    not their fault?
    whose fault?
    mine?
    I am asked to hide
    my viewpoint
    from them
    for fear of their
    fear.
    age is no crime
    but the shame
    of a deliberately
    wasted
    life
    among so many
    deliberately
    wasted
    lives
    is.

This is Iness, and I wanted to express my gratitude after reading your honest and beautiful comments. I personally love O'Bedlam's voice and I don't think anyone can represent Bukowski as well as he does. The brilliant narration of his unique bass voice makes it intimidating for anyone to put their own spin on a Bukowski's poem. But this is without counting on Illneas' artistic genius. I think he is incredibly brave, on top of being so skilled, to try new methods and allow for new perspectives to unfold. 'Be kind' for me is about the daily frustration of silencing myself for fear of hurting people in my life who can not bear the cold truth. It is a fight between disapproval and empathy. It's a bittersweet and alienating feeling that I feel honored to share with you. This unconventional collaboration comes from a place of love, passion and vulnerability and I really hope you can relate to it. Much love to Illneas, and this gold community who is seriously adding so much to this channel.

Thank you very much for your good work. Indeed the voice of O'Bedlam is incredible and conveys the message very well but that doesn't mean that there aren't other ways of reciting his poems. You put his work into another perspective and that's also a good way of reflecting on the art of poetry instead of having constantly the same style. You can also recite poems or texts from other writers. I agree on Ilneas, his work is awesome and especially in these dismal times we really need it. Too few people enjoy the art of poetry in our modern world so this kind of CZcams is needed in my opinion. May I ask which other poets you really like?

Yes, you are right, O'Bedlam's voice is to many people the main, if not only voice they associate with Bukowski's poems. I also thought the same before watching this, but then your voice just changed things for me. It sincerely confused me to hear someone else read Charles' material, that exact feeling made me able to relate to the poem. I was able to relate to my suffering, as opposed to just heating about someone else's pain.
      Honestly, thank you for this.
Hope to here you more often too. (Not saying O'Bedlam should be kicked off. They are like Rock and air. O'Bedlamis more like a rigid and strong speaker with his bass, like a mountain that announces its presence to someone, and Iness is more of a free speaker, with her smooth voice, like a breeze that passed through someone.)

Hey man, I write thought journals. Here's an example of one of my pieces. Would be cool if you could put it in a video or find a narrator for it. I feel like it would fit your channel.
      ~ Infected ~
“One day in this life you realise you are infected with the condition of being an outsider. The symptoms are revealed to you gradually. As you walk the neighbourhoods of normality you realise your heart yearns for something else. Stability and security only give you a feeling of sadness. You have no interest in the contract of life offered to you. As you stare at the rows of houses and green lawns and shiny cars, as you look up uninterested at career ladders before you, as you stare wistfully into space in the supermarket queue, you gradually begin to realise that something isn’t quite right about it all. Every ounce of your being rejects the things you were told to desire. What gives you fulfilment simply isn’t available in their stores or on their menus. You have no interest in material riches or status. Their television shows and newspapers are toxic poison to your mind. You are allergic to their conventions and expectations. The suits and ties don’t fit you. What is important to them, to you seems meaningless and trivial. In your world adventure and exploration and art rank above all else. Yes, accept it: you have the alien madness - the condition of being an outsider. You are infected. Do not trouble to even try and cure yourself, it will only make you worse. No, no, no: forget the therapists, forget the sensible advice, forget trying to fit into a society which doesn’t fit you. Do not trouble yourself. Here is what you shall do:
Let the infection take over. Let your eyes become bloodshot with blinding passion. Let your skin be shed - let that heart of yours become filled with poetry and madness. This is it: you were never one of them anyway, and the sooner you accept you never will be, the more powerful your mutant soul will become. You will liberate yourself from society and walk those streets with a rare strength and joy - a feeling of freedom not known or understood by those who define themselves in groups. The world around you will glisten with magic - you will see things they can’t see; do things they can’t do; go places they can’t go. You will attract strange glances and stares - sometimes in secret admiration, sometimes in fear. You will terrify some and inspire others beyond belief - and as the infection spreads further, you will grow stronger and stronger, fiercer and fiercer. Nothing will be able to hinder you. Things like isolation and rejection will only fuel your desire further. No cage or poacher will be able to capture your wild heart. You will be unstoppable like a storm; you will be impenetrable like a mountain. You will live the life of a fearless adventurer and go to the grave knowing that your life was lived with absolute fullness. The flowers around your grave will blossom with an exotic beauty; the birds will sing songs about your adventures at your headstone. You will have been totally consumed by your passion. You will have stayed happily infected until the end of your days. You will have died knowing that this world could never find a cure for your beautiful madness."

And that’s all my life is really, my entire life is just one long dance. And because I haven’t given up on my love of dance, now I just primarily live in solitude, because I’ve run away from everyone too busy wasting their time on everything but me, and now I find myself wasting my time on everything but them.

Not only is she is a wonderfully skilled reader with a beautiful voice but the contrast between her soft voice and the sheet gruffness of a Bukowski poem creates this beautiful kind of synergy... it's almost like she's allowing, or creating, or opening up dozens of new interpretations for the words. Like she's looking at the world beyond the little Bukowski circle and telling them, "Come in."
Am I gushing too much? Probably. But I flipping love hearing such a different voice than normally narrates his work. Wonderful work.

I can't believe what she said.
I can't believe the way it sounds so pure..
I don't want to believe that it's real feels so generic.
What language is that my ears can not see?
She didn't know how powerful her voice could be, shattering the silence with such greed.
If it was only ment for me, how much sweeter it would be.
I hate the echoes that rip at my thoughts, never the same again.
Don't put your trust in the sounds you hear, the reverberating is lost in translation.
Then she speaks again, but again not to me. Just noise with no matter, no distance, no meaning.
Just words I can not see...

I'm in love with Iness' voice 😭 this is so beautiful, both the combination of Bukowski and her voice but also the idea of you, collaborating with your followers/subscribers/watchers. Honestly, I didn't expect this wholesomeness. What a great surprise.
Iness did an absolutely awesome job j delivering the poem. It just reminds me that I have never listened to Bukowski being read by woman, and turned out it was freaking amazing.
I find the poem is kind of fit too. Especially because it's narrated by a woman. Let's be real, women are always the most oppressed. We are told to be kind to the men, if we do not want anything happens to us. We are dictated our whole life. But now, we do not need to be kind to people who can not and will not be kind to us. I love how this video has bit of feminism spirit (maybe not as you intended, but I feel like that).
    Great, awesome job, Iness 💙
Thank you, for this video Illneas, I love O'Bedlam and Bukowski himself, but Iness just skyrocketing to be my top narrator of your video 😂👌🏼

illneas, you've heard it all before from me but this is so beautiful. It's so poignant I couldn't help but shed a tear at the end. Stop doing that to me, man!!! Iness, your voice is a joy to listen to. You complemented - no, enhanced - the production with hypnotic grace. I think it was a brilliant idea to use a female voice with European (?) inflection to narrate Bukowski. It's a first on YT, as far as I know, and it brought out all the poignancy buried in Bukowski's sometimes rather barbed observations. You guys brought his Bluebird out today. I love the setting, the shots, all the usual compliments again, illneas! Understated brilliance. A thing of beauty that will be discussed in lecture theatres one day. Thank you. I do feel rather miserable now but thank you, nevertheless!!! 😂 🤣All my love. Be safe. Your friend, John💙
