  • 🔰Hello Internet Friends,
This video was shot during my 2019 summer break when traveling was still a thing. "Desiderata" is one of the greatest poems of the last century with a message that will echo for many more generations since it speaks directly to the human condition and all the existential questions that come along with it. In other words, I really like this poem because it speaks to me and I hope it does the same to you, tell me what you think in the comments.

    🔰Desiderata by Max Ehrmann
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

At 17 I was a hardcore IV heroin addict, and at that age I was resigned to being dead before 25 or in prison for a long time.
Luckily, what I was caught for only landed me 5 years inside. During this time I found this poem. It was on my wall and I read it as a daily thing in the mornings.
In a highly unstable and chaotic environment, the few moments of peace I got after reading this was worth so much to me.
One of the best things I've ever read

Every time I hear those lines "you are a child of the universe....you have a right to be here" in this deep grave voice, I feel this odd sensation of vulnerability as if all my hidden thoughts I keep only to myself have all been exposed to the universe and I am deemed worthy to live on for I am wholly understood by her....

Subtle imagery that blends beautifully with the pace of the soundtrack.. like you can feel it slowing down and but covering lot of content at the same time.
Like.. when you feel like you thought of something for 10 minutes and it's been only 2 minutes.

I've never been much for poems before, but sometime last year when I was going through a tough period this one great friend of mine from an MMO I'm playing suggested I listen to this and I've been coming back here time and time again ever since, I can't explain how or why, but it truly speaks to me and I feel better whenever I listen to it and that's good enough for me.

I could write pages and pages about what I liked in this video.
The shots of Rome are beautiful. I have been there twice when I was younger, on schooltrips. The monuments, the ruins, the beauty of the marble and the gold, the paintings, the fountains... Both times were amazing experiences. Seeing those places again, after all these years, throught your eyes this time, brought back good memories. So thank you for that.
I like this poem. It is the first time I hear it, but I think I recognize some quotes from Pinterest lol. Some verses made a strong impression on me because they fitted just *so* right with the video and the music (beautiful choice on the music by the way). One of my favorite moment might be:
"Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story." I remember fiercely standing in front of this fountain, and in front of this monument - our latin teacher made us translate the words scritten on it x)
"But let this not blind you to what virtue there is" this sentence with the shot of the statue is perfect
"everywhere life is full of heroism" I like that the painting was one of someone showing kindness. More than often heroism is associated with depinctions of war.
"Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
" Those four lines are... I think they speak to many of us on a personal level.
Welp, that was a long comment x) Well, I did say I could write pages about what I liked in this video x)
Thank you again, it was beautiful.
