  • This week I had the opportunity to test and review two small FPV drones that really pack a punch. I gotta say both of them are pretty impressive, and ONE of them has definitely become a daily driver for me...

    I loved my tinyhawk freestyle v1 which I modded with the nano2 cam, xm+ receiver and a rush tiny tank vtx (500mW), which I eventually destroyed by crashing into salt-water. I'm awaiting delivery on it's replacement, the Freestyle 2, and straight out of the box it shouldn't need all the mods needed on v1. Great review

      @flightevolution8132 Před 3 lety

      If that's the case, please skip PID tuning for now. It is for much more experienced pilots capable of noticing specific flight characteristics and addressing them with tuning. Most stock tunes are fine, and if not just load up standard profiles on whatever software you use for a better tune.

    My first drone was actually the Mobula 7 and I am super happy with it although learning to steer indoors in tight spaces is a bit overwhelming. Now that I have the Nazgul 5 6s, I am super happy with the performance, although my OSD chip in the Flight Controller died in the 3rd crash. The replacement just arrived. in order to try to repair the old FC, I flashed Betaflight 4.2 and learned A LOT doing that. Also I can really tell you that the BF4.2 tuning preset for cinematic flight did make a huge change compared to the presets out of the box, although I haven't gotten it wobble free so far.

    I agree about how much fun toothpick drones like the tinyhawk freestyle are. I'll, too, often grab the toothpick instead of my 5 inch for the exact same reasons. It's so durable, low risk, and far cheaper. The props are cheaper and more durable, and the batteries are far cheaper. I've got a crash reel with a modified tinyhawk race and in the whole time, all I've had to replace are props, and not as often as you might think. Mine does have a different FC, VTX, and canopy, and all is conformal coated though. If anyone is thinking of a toothpick, just do it! The whoop style drones would probably make a better very first drone though for learning.

I love my Tinyhawk II Whoop though, it really got me from Sim into the real world and is a lot of fun to fly. Next thing trying my Tinyhawk II Freestyle out and then start getting into PID & Rate tuning. But if I knew the mobula would record video and FrSky just started to suck.. I might have started with a Mobula 7 HD + Tango II. This might be 2021's beginners choice if you don't want to buy twice!

    @Matt Pockwat Congrats on your channel. Nice to see a Canuck contribute content to the community with a delivery in layman's terms. I stumbled upon your channel by a CZcams suggestion. I was curious to here what you had to say. I gather you're an aerial cinematography enthusiast. It may explain why you have a Mob6 HD. It's interesting that, in this video, you cover the Mob6 HD and TH2. You should try the non HD Mob6! You'll find them drastically different! That extra 7g on a 65mm drone is HUGE! The non HD is nimble and very agile to rip around inside (in bad weather). Consider moving your Mob6 HD guts onto a 75mm frame. See Nick Burns' "Mobulite HD Pro // Improve your Mob6 HD". Godspeed and happy flying!!

    Great video! My first drone was tinyhawk S and i love it, compared to mob6 (24000kv no hd) u get aprox 1min 30s more flight time. My 2nd drone was TH freestyle (1) and its super fun (u can use rubber band and record hd from insta360go (extra 18g). As for begginer i woud say u need spare bottom plate for freestyle and loctite- plus spare props - i was lerning next to a concrete, and before i swap bottom plate for new one i did glue it several times :) one thing about TH freestyle was range... 25mv vtx is just blocking u quite fast in open area with few trees. The th2 have new vtx (up to 200mv) so it shoud be way better. My AIO board from S broke so i move TH board to it and just got tinyhawk 2 board for my freesttle :) on old one i got easy 6min of flying (up to 8 when crusing -520mah gnb).

    As someone who started with EMAX products exclusively, I can pretty confidently say that, while they are great products for beginners, you will quickly outgrow them. When this happens, their flaws become quite apparent. Namely the all-in-one flight controller/ESC stacked with the VTX. Honestly, I think the flight controller and ESC are pretty solid, but the way that they have chosen to connect them to the VTX to it is very weak and problematic. I can't tell you how many times my flight buddy and I have fought with repairing the connection between the two. Do I recommend their products for beginners? Absolutely. Just keep in mind that they have their share of problems and you'll likely outgrow them quickly. Great video, by the way! Keep them coming!

    Excellent video! BetaFPV also makes a tiny HD drone, very similar to the mobula.

    Superb review Matt, your production value is top notch, and the Tinyhawk 2 Freestyle really does look like an amazing little beast. BTW, is that a Sigma 16 F/1.4 that I spy at the end of your video? It's such a good leans!

    Your videos are super! Is there any chance you have some advice for adding Crossfire to QX7, I thought this wasn’t supported? Thanks.

    For the record you don't have to use two 1s lipos in the Tiny Hawk FS 2. Mine came set up to run on 1 battery with a warning to change the Pid Profile if two batteries were used. Even came with a jumper/plug for use with only one battery.

    I actually have bolth of these it's nice how the tinyhawk has the 6 port charger to charge all battery's from factory at once for bolth of them but also grab a velcro strap and use one of those 450s for the mobula6 bro trust me way longer flight times and a bit more power to play with

    Tried a Freestyle on 2x300mAh whoop sticks? Even quicker & way more responsive.
    Still for about $20 more, a Vanta Nano crushes it.
    Also TH2 Race flies big & tracks like a sim. Best budget out-of-the-box tune, IMO!

    Can you make a video showing how you tuned both the quads. This would be awesome for people like me starting in fpv that don’t know much about tuning
