I think you are right, the 1S drone must have a problem. But, the 2S was the one I would buy. Good to see Emax making these HD drones for people just starting out. Wish they had a little more range, but then that would push up the price. All in all, it’s a pretty good balance for the price. Thanks for an excellent review. 👍👍😀

I started with GPS drones and never thought I'd learn acro, now I find GPS drones boring.
...unless you're into photography, they do get a bit 'same ole same ole thing'. That's why I like planes...eventually I'll do fpv drones...and fpv planes.

Baffles me that these companies send defective stuff to reviewers. I would want to make sure it was absolutely perfect. It only takes one bad review. As always a well balanced and fair review Steve.
I can honestly say that when it comes to pre-release items, reviewers often end up being beta testers as well as reviewers. You can see between the two drones, one had proper video as it should be and the other one had difficulty sending a signal a foot away which means I probably got a defective one. Check out other reviews of that drone to see if it was just me.
looks like they just made video feed digital but no noise filtering.. i do think just go analog.. were the hm mobulas and bf meteor hds like this?
I've got a Tinyhawk II, I love it, but the only issue I've had with it is the camera angle screws fall out pretty easily. You mentioned that the screws were loose on the Tinyhawk III, but I guarantee those will back out quite quickly. I also just looked at their technical video on the store page for it, even theirs is missing a screw on the camera mount.

Nice review demo thanks. A bock of polystyrene between camera and drone would add ‘zero’ weight and avoid seeing props? Can’t see the point of goggles in countries like UK where visual line of sight seems to be the only way to fly legally.

Captain drone, I purchased the Autell drone combo kit, because I was told, I would not have to deal with geofence and all the nonsense. My question is willl the dji mini 4 pro come with all the headaches? Or is the Aurtell drone is fine. T/y

Could have been a number of things. Bottom line is it did not look great. However, when you see the video of the FREESTYLE... Now that is what the first quad should look like.
I have been following captain drone for some time and will say reviews like this has prompted several of my purchases and helped get me into the world of droning starting with a originally a dji spark then the mini 2 also a air 2 now a mini 3 pro lol plus others. Long story short and many drones later I decided to get into fpv and based on budget went with the Tinyhawk 3+ freestyle analog kit $281 with discount. I will say my experience was not great in the beginning, the camera was defective from the factory had poor mis-coloring and something rattling inside it along with poor range, so I bought the runcam nano 2 which came on the Tinyhawk 2 freestyle (imho a much higher quality camera) for $24 also bought some foxeer lollipop antennas $25ish and some jst connectors $7.75 so I could quickly replace the camera going forward and got to work. I soldered in the new jst connector and mounted up the camera and installed the antenna (also note some of the factory wiring was already touching the antenna so I twisted them up good to move them off the antenna) and I was happy with my work but still I had poor range even at 200mw power. I found the issue was these factory goggles I hooked up my fat shark scout goggles $199 and it was like a completely different experience. Suddenly I had very impressive range and pretty decent image quality and was happy with the performance it really is a good flying little drone but it has come at some cost with some work and a bit of learning. I would say my experience is likely just this sample of 1 but in all it has costed $563.28 I didn’t have the fat sharks to begin with but just wanted to share, I was committed to getting into fpv and now it’s a blast I can do many different tricks and maneuvers and just have fun but it took me some work and money to get there plus the cost of extra batteries because let’s be honest 2 is not enough lol. Now it may have costed me a bit less if I just sent it back to Emax for warranty work but what can I say I’m impatient and wanted to fly asap and now I am and by having the goggles I can connect to more drones so my takeaway is this like any rc hobbies it’s an investment and labor of love I really enjoy getting to fly my quads and helis and enjoy racing and bashing my rc trucks but it requires time and money and a bit of skill which I picked up along the way. I do recommend this drone kit and just wanted to share my experience for others, hopefully it helps.

Hey Steve, I'm wondering if the whoop's VTX switched to 25mW mode because it was overheating and you didn't switch it back to 200mW mode? It will down power if it's overheating but it will not up power automatically and that's the kind of break up you get at 25mW. Can't say for sure though because there's no OSD on the whoop video. The VTX on the Freestyle was running at 200mW according to the OSD. EDIT: In fact yes, @9:50 on the display the OSD shows the VTX is running in 25mW mode.
Also with HDZero there is no binding or handshaking between the VTX and VRX, the VRX never transmits and it is a completely passive receiver, so you could have 100 of those monitors receiving video from that one VTX.
I tried the VTX on the first drone on all power levels and as you can see when it was flown indoors a few feet away it showed interference. I tried it many times in different ways, but no luck. I turned off the OSD as it made the video look worse with the numbers bouncing around. Emax assures me it should not be like this and that I must have received a defective pre-release model.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Oh, that's so weird. Looking at them they seem to be using the HDZero Whoop Lite VTX which has been in production for a while now, just they've taken off the shielding. I guess you got one with a bad VTX then....
Can you bind the HDZero radio controller to other drones ?
It is ELRS so you would bind it to any drone with an ELRS receiver

Everyone wants hdzero, and I can't figure it out. My metor85 with the WS 1S unit makes these things look like something from 8 years ago.....
The freestyle version seems very good but as a beginner i want a drone with prop guards do you know if that exists? I saw a video with it but only for the tinyhawk 2 but not for 3

You have to turn on controller first then quad then vtx? I cant get my 3 freestyle hd to arm
Make sure your throttle joystick is 100% in the down position. Also make sure you don’t have the flip over (crash) switch on the remote engaged.

I watched your review of the Draknight 2 the other day. For my first FPV drone which of those 2 would you pick from? The performance seems more impressive in your Draknight 2 review. I've been very overwhelmed on picking out the gear. I've decided to go analog first in case I don't end up really getting into this hobby, for goggles, for entry level these EMAX goggles seem really good for the money so Im gonna order those but really stuck on which actual drone to get. I have no interest in whoops so just the freestyle carbon frame is what Im focused on.
If you practice on sims then the Draknight RTF is best.

Nope. To help you out, just remember that DJI products ONLY work with DJI gear (there is no DJI gear on these drones).

Hi. I have a question for you and I did my maiden flight with the tinyhawk 3 freestyle hdzero and all went well but the second flight the drone kept flipping over at take off? Is there a way to calibrate it? Everything is working and stick inputs and movement of the drone is correct but it still flips over at launch in all flightmodes..

In order to fly FPV you must have FPV pilot skills, especially for indoors. If you are a newbie, then look at the BETAFPV CETUS X or AQUILLA

This is great news. I've been wondering when someone would do a rtf kit in HD . Maybe this will be a bit more budget than a proper DJI/HDZERO setup.
I was wondering if this HD setup is some thing proprietry or compatible with other digital system in case u need to get a decent set of goggles like DJI . The only thing that worries me is the goggles might not be adjustable enough for my eye prescription

The EMAX kit is all about HD video. The sub250 Whoopfly has Analog video and probably a bit longer flight time. You simply pick based on the video.

Only if both drones have the same type of receiver. EMAX changed all of their drones to ELRS receivers part way through 2023, and all of their radios have moved to ELRS.

HD Zero certainty has a digital signal back to the goggles so the image is very clear. With HD Zero you can use the goggles/display with other HD Zero drones. Analog is not as good an image in the goggles, but much less expensive. My opinion is that the HD ZERO kit is still a beginner kit, as is the ANALOG version, so this is something to learn on and then spend BIG dollars to get pro gear like everyone else in the hobby uses. So the people that buy the HD ZERO version over the ANALOG version are the ones who can afford it, knowing that they will again be upgrading their gear later.

Much too expensive to create a WALKSNAIL RTF kit. Even DJI tried one with the DJI FPV RTF Kit and that was over a grand back in the day.

Steve, Tell Emax to Change the Tinyhawk Freestyle battery connector to XT 30 because the 2 Battery Connector SUCKS and is a total Pain to Use!! 🙏
This is a shame because ... *HDzero is absolutely NOT like this in general.* I'm shocked at how horrendously bad the TH3 looked in this video. At 12:04 the feed on the ground glitching out is indicative of either a problem with the video transmitter on the drone, or the emax receiver, or some software misconfiguration in the kit -- (maybe keeping it in pit mode?).
Considering the Freestyle looked okay, I'm betting it's an issue with the drone and not the video receiver. I'd have tried to address that right away, but I only know this due to prior experience with HDzero. The Emax receiver would strongly stand to benefit majorly from some omnidirectional antennas, even though the TH FS 3 doesn't look to be defective those antennas are definitely a limiting factor.
Could be. Often pre-production units sent to reviews are below standard since quality control is limited for pre-launch products.
Hey John. Agreed. 👍 We didn't have that issue with ours, however, I did notice that one time, I turned on the goggles and then the drone. The channels weren't the same, but it was flyable. I then noticed I wasn't on the same channel.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 That's really strange because you'd think the companies would want these products looking the best... knowing they'll be sent out to make a video. Anything I get for review has usually already hit retail, so I honestly don't have as much experience with prerelease items as you do. Either way, it's really unfortunate. I haven't watched any other reviews yet to see if others also struggled with this kit or if it was a one-off. Yours was the first vid I saw come up, so I checked it out. I'm glad Emax is supporting HDzero and has adopted ELRS for their kits.
@@JohnCuppiI agree, one would think a review would receive an outstanding product, but I can honestly say that after doing this gig since 2016, I do often receive products for review with issues. If the product doesn’t work correctly at all, then I don’t review it, but if it works sufficiently for the viewer to make an informed decision, then I’ll show it. As noted in my vid, it may be wise to check out other reviews and see if the transmission was any better.
The indoor whoop version is just that, for indoors and close range so it has a lightweight linear antenna. Freestyle has a better antenna as it’s intended for further range flight. The indoor version in its intended use yields better results I’d imagine as it’s not an outdoor freestyle drone, that’s what the freestyle is for and why it performed better

I don’t know what EMAX has done here… two tinyhawk 3 releases at the same time where one is a total garbage and one is really good?! Why did they do that ?! 🤣🤷🏽
The normal one has absolut bad image quality and range, even worse than an analog tinywhoop and as it wouldn’t be enough they made a 1:30min flight time! So it’s basically not useable! 🤦🏽♂️
The tinyhawk 3 freestyle on the other has a good image quality, better range and a good flight time…
The freestyle did really well in my opinion! The only downside that i see is that it has „only“ 7000kv and weighs near 100gram… so it’s a bit underpowered!
But if i want a tinywhoop rtf kit that is durable, flights well, has good range and want to record good videos and one that’s good for upgrades, the GEPRC Tinygo 4k is still the king in my opinion!
Because yes, it is analog, but it’s a good analog video for an rtf kit, records really nice videos up to 4k and the most important is, that it „only“ weighs about 75-80 grams with 2 lipos and it has 10.000kv motors so it’s a lot more powerful.

Definitely not normal, and this review makes HDzero look awful, like it can't handle being flown in an open field. 200mw HDzero in this environment should work so much better. Something is most definitely wrong in this setup, either hardware or a software misconfiguration, to have this occur, since it was full of artifacts just sitting on the ground in front of him.

Couldn’t agree more. Maybe the worst HDzero footage i’ve ever seen. Not worth the extra weight & price for such horrible quality.

But you have to wait till the freestyle footage comes at the end of the video! It is way way better in quality, range and flighttime!
In my opinion, the tinyhawk 3 is extremely bad in all cases and not worth any money, but the tinyhawk 3 freestyle at the same time is really good for an rtf kit! Good videoquality for a tiny drone, good range and really good flight time.
So it is a strange release in my opinion, because the normal TH 3 is soooo bad and the TH 3 freestyle at the same time really good.
But if i want a tinywhoop rtf kit that is durable, flights well, has more power, has good range and want to record good videos and one that’s good for upgrades, the GEPRC Tinygo 4k is still the king in my opinion!
@@ApfelSgt Can’t agree on that. My first quad was the Tinyhawk 3 rtf. When you’re in the very beginning, an underpowered quad is favourable. Maintaining a consistent elevation is really hard for a beginner and i remember it was hard for me aswell. The Tinyhawk 3 being underpowered gives you a lot of space on the controller to maintain that consistent elevation. You get a 5 minute flight time because of the low 15000 kv motors. Its also very durable and thats great for a beginner. On the range i agree, really bad when you fly outdoors on 2s. Other than that for indoors its a good kit for someone who has never flown an fpv quad.

Most if not all of these beginner FPV drone kits the video interference is just horrible and being a beginner you would think the video you get from the FPV would be a lot better ????
The drone with the terrible interference was DEFECTIVE. It normally would not look that bad.
I feel like the technology is 10yrs old, I get that this is the latest and best for fpv, but my god it's horrible manufacturer's need to stop sitting on their hands.
The Video is Totally Unacceptable it’s because they’re putting on those cheap antennas. I fly Emax products all the time and my video is way better and I’m not using digital I’m using analog with better Antennas!
Where do you get the better antennas?

horrible image even at a few 100 feet away looks like they went as cheap as they could analog has better images the free style one seems acceptable
EMAX has confirmed that my unit was defective & I should have had similar video results to that of the FREESTYLE
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 still the range doesnt seem good . I get it entry level but hard to keep people into it when their first experiences are this weak . IMO anyways .
