-Mercury 30 HP 2 Stroke (Stock).
Lower unit modifications:
-Above water exhaust.
-Extended skeg (To compensate higher engine mounting).
-Water pickup reposition at the bottom of gear case.
Propeller:
-SOLAS Stainless Steel Propeller 10" Pitch 13 (Modified).
Boat:
12 Ft Fiberglass V-hull Boat.

Hello. I'm looking at purchasing a 13" Boston Whaler Super Sport. It comes with a 30HP Mercury 2 stroke, oil injection. I'm guessing early 2000's but I need to dig up the serial # to know. What do you think of this combination? I see I can make a few mods to increase speed. I expect it to plane out at about 30 mph or so. I wonder if she'll go much faster. Would purchasing a 40 or 50 hp motor be a good move? How do you compare the 2 stroke to 4 stroke motors now? thanks for the info and great videos! have fun on the water.
If you’re chasing speed, I think it’s better for you to go for max rated hp outboard for the boat. Since you dont have to do the same mod on your motor twice or more if you are upgrading it. I would go for 3 cylinders 40/50 hp 2 strokes yamaha. You can put 75hp yamaha carburetor on it, bigger cdi unit and exhaust mod. Plus surface piercing and jack plate. I think it can hit 60+ mph. Here, same boat as mine with moded 18hp tohatsu can do 55+ mph. About the 4 strokes motor, tbh i never have any experience on one. Imo they’re better for cruising. But if speed that you’re chasing, 2-strokes is the only way 😂. Feel free to check out our boating scene here in Malaysia. Especially in Sarawak. Can search for Sibu Powerboat Race 2023 video. @@MrPayara45 Hi! you can begin with higher pitch stainless steel propeller. Look for surface piercing as it can help your engine run at higher rpm. Next you can experimenting with height of engine mounting. If you can get a jack plate that is even better. So that you can fine tune you motor height. I think that is as much as you can do with a standard engine. If you want more out of your engine, you can fit bigger carburetor, better cdi unit, higher flow rate fuel pump, different exhaust shapes and sizes. Thanks!
