- Mercury 30hp two stroke and a quick test of the stock aluminium propeller on the 11ft aluminium boat.
I have 5 stainless steel propellers to test, 3 and 4 blade, 9 through to 13 pitch. Video comparisons coming 👍
Watch for the next vids on the other props. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
A new vid at last. The nipper seems to handle 30hp alright. I love all the mods you have done to this outboard. Keep it coming.
Cheers mate, it does feel better with the 15hp. The 30hp is fun though.
The 30hp is really for a new project 👌.
I love everything about this boat as I have been following every video on it it’s become a little weapon 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇦🇺
Awesome stuff as usual that thing rips!!!
Great Engine and great work with the power trim adaptation
thanks mate 👍
they are great engines for sure 👌
2 strokes rocks! :) Great vid, man! Cheers
Absolutely mate 👌.
Cheers, appreciate your encouragement.
I love my two stokers.
👌👌👌
Hope to do some more tests on that motor soon.
Little sketchy. I'd get a couple 5 gallon buckets and fill them with sand to put in the nose of the boat.
Very cool.
Any chance on a carbie overhaul for this motor I got the same one and having issues with carbie
Hey mate how much did the tilt and trim cost ya for the 30hp?
What rpm gauge do you use? Just one of those ebay ones for 2 strokes?
Im frothing I have the same boat with a 1984 johnson 15hp mine is set up with steering and forward controls after watching this I've just purchased a 30hp 2004 Johnson to put on mine. Loving the vids mate
Awesome 👏 yeah these little boats rock.
You will need to test done different props (I need to as well) to get the best out of the extra hp. The Johnson 30hp has a big range of props available, I think they come standard with about a 13 pitch but you can get a 15 and also a 17 if needed, also seen 11 pitch but that won’t be enough.
Keep me posted mate.
Cheers 👌
@@25hpboatracerman I love this little boat. I fitted the 30hp today sounds like a beast. A little bit of wiring to tidy up & ill change the steering as I dont think the old pulley steering will like the big donk. I was think 15 prop ill try that thanks legend

Good work mate 👍
Wow goes fast with the 30 can’t wait for other prop vids
Have you ever been in Tuggerah lake boating before
Hey mate,
Yeah it goes pretty good with the 30.
Been on Tuggerah lake a fair few times with heaps of different boats, good spot 👌.
Cheers
Do you reckon it would handle a 40
Hey mate what lb electric motor would you suggest on the fish nipper because I own one aswell and you seem to know alot more than me about it 🍻
Hey mate,
Well done on owning a fish nipper, they are awesome 👏.
It really depends on what you want the electric motor for and how long you want to run it etc.
- just as an auxiliary?
- for trawling, sneaking etc?
- how long you plan on it running for without battery charge.
- extra battery weight in boat?
A 24 pound will push the nipper ok and not draw as much current as the bigger ones but If you are needing more then about 40 pound would be the go.
Keep in mind I had a 24 pound minn kota and it would suck a 520 CCA 54 ah battery flat in no time.
What battery setup are you thinking of?
Keep me posted mate, I’m not an expert on the electric outboards, I have owned a few though, I am very familiar with the fish nipper though.
Cheers 🍻
Prob get even more with higher pitch prop, running lower rpm, trimmed out of course. Nice!
Yeah, she runs nice 😎
The prop comparison vid is up, also want to add sone cupping to the 13p stainless and see if that drops revs and adds a bit more speed.
Cheers 🍻
Aussie Boat Guy 😎
@@25hpboatracerman Would be cool to see a vid on cup adding.
Hey mate, do you sell any of your motors by any chance? Also, do you know how heavy the nipper is roughly?
Hey mate, the Nipper weighs about 80kgs, it’s pretty heavy for an 11ft.
At this stage, I do sell off some outboards from time to time but not planning on selling the 30 with the mods or the 15 with the mods.
Cheers 🍻
Do you work at usg boral pinkenba? Good video mate
Hey mate,
Nu, don’t work at Boral, just got given the hat at a Boral plasterboard supplier.
Cheers 🍻
I have a question about mercury 30 hp two strokes. I recently have acquired a mercury, 30 hp 1998. The service manual I have is 430 and 40 hp. It appears in the manual and everything I've read online the biggest two differences is in this engine in the 40 is the carburetor and the valves, correct? Can a mercury 30 be changed to a 40 hp just wondering if you knew anything about this thanks a lot.
Hi Champion,
Sounds like your talking about 4 strokes, I’m not up to speed on the technical details on 4 strokes unfortunately.
cheers 🍻
Aussie Boat Guy 😎
@@25hpboatracerman no I'm talking about two-stroke. Basically you change the main jet in the carburetor. And when I said valves, I meant reed valves. sorry I wasn't very clear anyways I'm looking at purchasing a 40 hp and after I have it I'll be able to look into what it takes to convert the 30 hp to 40 if possible to change out a few parts.
Hi mate,
Ok 👍
Well I thought you where taking about the Japan built 30hp Mercury (built by Tohatsu) like in my video, that is 430cc twin cylinder and cannot be changed to the 40hp which is 493cc and different entirely and they do make a 3 cylinder 40 as well.
I believe the USA built 30hp twin cylinder two stroke may be the same block as the 40 twin cylinder but I have never owned either unfortunately so not able to help with that sorry.
Cheers 🍻
Aussie Boat Guy 😎
Pretty close to 6000rpm so don't think you will be changing picth much ey? I'm running same setup but switched to a 12 pitch stainless prop and the extra cup just bites so much better. Had to raise engine 12mm to get back to 6000rpm as I wasn't there with the stock 13.
Sick boat mate!
Cheers mate.
Yeah the revs are pretty spot on, I haven’t played with heights or anything yet.
When we circuit raced those motors we are happy to go to about 6800rpm, we found that those motors are Bullet proof if they are picking up cooling water and the oil ratio is correct.
I ran one at about 6500rpm for 7 years on my race boat and it was mechanically perfect still.
That motor is actually for another boat which is heavier so may have to go to an 11p, we will see.
Cheers 🍻
@@25hpboatracerman Epic. Yeah they are totally bulletproof. I took 1mm off the heads recently and just designed my own velocity stack and 3D printed it. Fitted Boyesen Reed valves as well and it's made a massive difference. I think I'm running around 6200rpm at the moment but I'm waiting for the same Tacho you installed to come from eBay as my last one is cooked.
Anyways keep us posted. Videos are great 👍
Sweet outboard mate, what does your taco read at idle?
The small two stroke outboards read pretty high at idle when they are out of the water (no back pressure from the exhaust being submerged) probably about 1400 to 1650rpm at idle when out of the water. Not like a car at about 700rpm.
When it’s in the water it is lower of course but probably still over 1000rpm.
Cheers
@@25hpboatracerman my 18hp Tohatsu idle about 1350 with the same tacho, always thought it was high 👍 cheers mate
Too easy mate.
1350 sounds fine 👍
Mercury is still the winning outboard! Pride in research is the key! How many cc's on the 30hp ?
Hi mate. I love Mercury for sure but this particular Mercury is built by Tohatsu in Japan. 430cc two stroke 1.92 to 1 lower unit ratio, very quick motors.
Mercury is a great company which is why they are more than happy to put their stickers on a tohatsu.
Cheers 👌

@@25hpboatracerman 15cc per HP wow. Thanks
HELLO !! I HAVE THE SAME ENGINE AND YOUR VIDEOS HELPED ME A LOT FOR TUNING. I WOULD LIKE YOU TO MAKE A VIDEO ON HOW TO TUNE THE ADVANCE DEGREES SO THAT IT GIVES 30 HP AND IF YOU MODIFIED THE EXHAUST, IN WHAT WAY?
Cheers mate.
You just need to neatly cut the restrictor plate to a full circle which sits behind the carburetor, or order the 30hp one. You do not need to modify the exhaust. The timing can crank adjusted further advanced at full throttle. It takes about 10 mins to do the conversion, very simple.
I do not have a motor to do a video on at the moment for the conversion.
Thanks and all the best,
Aussie Boat Guy 😎
Thanks for the prompt response. what brand of prop are you using? Here in Argentina it is difficult to find a stainless steel propeller for this motor.
@@carmeloloizaga7121
The standard 13p aluminum propeller that came with the motor is what I used in at video.
I do have a video on testing different stainless props on the channel if you are interested.
Cheers
Aussie Boat Guy 😎
Do more nipper videos in different weather conditions put it to the ultimate test please
Hi mate,
I would love too, just been busy as.
I will try to get some more vids up on the nipper.
cheers 🍻
Aussie Boat Guy 😎
I have a video on my channel with a 35hp Johnson 2 stroke on a 17ft bass boat.. 21 mph
I know those crazy mothers in those Red Bull derby 11' flatties do about 70k in the open river water.
That’s pretty fast for a 30hp... is the motor stock as well?
Yeah, it goes pretty well.
It is all stock. I reckon I may be able to get more speed when I try out some of my stainless props and play with the setup a bit.
👍👍👍
Bom vídeo.
Cheers mate,
It was fun 🤩
That engine is impressive 38.5
Hi Mate,
Yeah, it goes really well.
I am still to try it with a few people onboard but suspect it will still go well.
cheers 🍻
Aussie Boat Guy 😎
It makes my Suzuki 25c look slow. And I that it was a craicker
Move the seat forward 2 or 3 feet and she will settle down
I thought the old Quiiny Nipper was rated to 15hp?
Hi mate,
Correct, but a few have 25hp stamped as the max hp.
I feel like the 15 or 18 Tohatsu are a perfect match though.
I was just testing the 30, the 15hp (18hp) is back on.
Cheers 🍻
Aussie Boat Guy 😎
@@25hpboatracerman That follows onto the next point. I love to see a tuned 18hp Tohatsu. They are powerful enough as it is but I can only imagine the grunt.
@@davidlove7825
Yeah, the 18 Tohatsu goes great modified.
Had a few acquaintances with modded 18s.
Have not done one for myself yet though.

this is an original tohatsu 30 hp made .
Correct, and they are awesome 😎
That thing is a bullet
Hi mate,
Yeah, it’s pretty fun to drive.
