    I’d like to see the SpyderCheckr Software (that came with my SpyderCheckr 24) be available for use with other editing programs like GIMP, RawTherapee, Darktable (which still does not recognize my Z6II) or Nikon’s NX Studio where I use Nikon’s NEF RAW and don’t need to convert to Adobe RAW (or pay further fees for using Adobe’s software). I don’t sell my photos but I display them in my home and give them as gifts. I plan to buy the SpyderPrint system to profile some papers I’d like to use since I’m limited to Canson, Epson and a brand I no nothing about since they offer profiles for my printer. Canson and Epson may offer rolls but I am unaware and I’d like to do some stitched wide shots but know what happens, with my printer, without the correct profile. Hence, color control from camera to printer is what I want!

  • @vijaym2752

    Hi Vanessa. my workflow is more in PS. Am sure the colour profiles would load in ACR as well. Am talking about opening Raw file in ACR at the begining and not as Filter later. if you can confirm please. Thanks.

  • @rubengarza8901
    @rubengarza8901 Před 2 lety

    I have the SpyderCheckr. Its colors are not accurate. The problem is that it makes presets and not profiles. I did a test where I sent an image to the Datacolor software using the Adobe Standard profile and sent the same image with the Camera Faithful profile. The resulting presets gave me different hues when, theoretically, they should have adjusted to the same hue in relation to the camera profile I used. The X-rite Color Checker makes actual camera profiles.

    Not sure if you’d read the manual, but I believe the proper workflow does go like this:
    1. Adjust exposure so E2 value is ~70 to 80% white.. not the 90% that you'd shown..
    2. Use Eyedropper on E2 to get the WB right.
    3. Go ahead and adjust for the White and Black. :)

      With respect, Data Color's video says 90% as does the Help File. I don't see anywhere in their video or the help file to adjust E2 so it's 70 to 80%? What manual did you read?
      Any of the light or medium gray patches can be used to gray balance/white balance your image in Lightroom, ACR, or Phocus. The 20% gray patch (E2, or the gray patch adjacent to the white patch) is recommended. Use the white balance eyedropper tool in Lightroom's Develop mode, or from the upper tool palette in ACR. With Phocus, use the Neutralization tool. Click on the desired gray patch.
      Next look at RGB values or Percentages of the White patch (E1). Adjust the exposure slider until the white patch lists as approximately 90% in Lightroom, or about RGB 230, 230, 230 in ACR or Phocus. Next check the black patch (E6). The Blacks adjustment (or in some cases the Shadows adjustment) is used to set the black value to 4% in Lightroom, or RGB 10, 10, 10 in ACR. In Phocus, use the leftmost Output Values setting in the Histogram section to make that adjustment.

  • @gltzddonut
    @gltzddonut Před 4 lety +1

    One very very important thing to do before taking a reference from the color checker. CHANGE the color profile to EOS standard or neutral and take a white balance reading from E2 (light grey). It makes such a huge difference and really gives you punchy colors.

      @gltzddonut Před 4 lety

      @@VanessaJoy no worries, it's a small detail but gets your colors up to another league sooc. Its better doing it before taking the reading so that the checker neutralizes the tones and not the opposite happens.

    My dear Vanessa, I am astonished, that you touch the colour fields. The natural oil or grease of the skin of the fingertips alters the characteristics of the reflection and makes it almost useless. This is brand independent, since this is physics. I like your videos very much, this is the first time I "caught" you since you dropped your lens and said ".. Ok, it's a Canon" 😂. Nevertheless nice contribution, as I am got used to by you..

    @jpdj2715 Před 4 lety

    And, don't touch the color pads with your fingers. Ever.
    This is the easiest to get your colors correct. But.
    The white balance reference does not help to get "tint" right - this is where the color patches and profile software have to help out. Or else the blue of the dress still may be wrong.
    Also, the calibration does not inform on "black point" and "white point" - you still have to do that yourself.
    "Meter and Expose for the Highlights" in my camera may give one or more f-stops of highlights that I want to ignore and moving the white point to the point where exposure data contains interesting details, gives better gradation and less dull photos - the reference card does not help here.
    Not sure if Datacolor Spyder has that, but with X-rite I can create a profile from two reference card shots that gives a very nice profile when you shoot in two different types of light - color temperature and tint.
    Yes, ColorChecker Passport is always big enough.
    I would advise to also calibrate your monitors. I had been working on a non-calibrated notebook with a very good 4K OLED display. Well, in my post office on the calibrated Eizo monitor, it all looked off. (I never calibrated the notebook for "on the road use" with its own display.)

Anyway, how are u incorporating the WB checker, along w the color calibration checker?Are u having your model hold the WB card, as with the color checker🤔. • @VanessaJoy
      @VanessaJoy  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for popping by! I didn’t use the web checker bc the color pretty much gets it where it needs to be and depending on the shoot I tend to mess with white balance to create a mood vs be accurate.

    So once you've done your global corrections to your 16 bit raws apart from creating 8 bit jpegs, do you bring your raws down to a 8 bit as they are very large files and take up a lot of room, especially when your got thousands of them, as long as you have the storage I suppose it doesn't matter.

I’ve read many books where they all say getting rid of your raws is like getting rids of your negatives, but I’m quite happy with my method.
