You cant really compare the two because the m6 has 4 seat and the sl63 has two and is also lighter. I think its kinda sad that the sl63 only beat it by 1 second. They should have compared the sl63 to a zr1.

The SL63 is the direct competitor of the M6, and it always has been, hence the years and years of comparisons between the two. Especially in this test, they are using the convertible/coupe models of each, and both cars are heavy luxury tourers. They are also identical in power output, aspiration and drivetrain. They are also very similar in chassis dimensions and wheelbase. There is literally nothing that distinguishes one car from the other besides the 2 back seats in the M6, and as I already stated, make no difference in the outcome and result of this test. I think you need to learn a little more about what makes cars competition for one another. Thinking the E-Class competes with the 6-Series is outrageous.
i looked it up and the m6 is only 200 pounds heavier. i dont know, i just think the m6 was meant for more of a everyday car where as the sl63 would be a sports car where you wouldnt drive it everyday.

I love both these cars, and have owned AMGs and currently own an M6 convertible...these two really arent competitors as the SL is a two seater and the M6 seats 4. MB doesnt make a 4 seater AMG drop top after killing the CLK63...the idrive system s still a pain...but when all things are aligned, the M6 is a wonderful piece of engineering.

If you think the displacement of the AMG is what helps it win this track race, you don't deserve to talk about cars. If anything a bigger engine up front means this AMG has a less balanced front / rear weight distribution, which would give the advantage to the BMW. Also, MB makes one of the highest ever HP per Liter cars on the planet in the A / CLA45 AMG, so what were you saying about bigger engines? The fact is these 2 cars have very similar HP, yet the AMG is lighter despite the bigger engine, and turns in and corners better, again, DESPITE the bigger engine, not because of it. Also, if you did some research to discover how the BMW M6 makes it's horsepower in comparison to the SL63, you would realize it is due to a big difference in turbo boost pressure (M6 - 21.5 PSI - SL63 17 PSI). Anyone can make a smaller engine with higher boost pressure to make more power, as Mercedes proved with the A45. Displacement doesn't decide lap times idiot. Go read a book.
I'm sorry, but you can't really see "behind the walls". 1. The engine in the Merc is not literally physically bigger, in fact it's even lighter overall than that 4,4L block in the BMW. 2. The fuel consumption is nearly identical, so efficiency-wise, there are also no real differences. 3. However, the bigger cylinder volume has some advantages, such as smoother torque and power curves, and EXACTLY THIS IS the reason AMG uses "oversized" engines compared to the BMW and Audi competitors. And anyways, I think Mercedes already has proven in terms of power/liter performance since they have a 2,0L turbo with 360bhp/450Nm, which is currently the best by far on the market in that regard. You can also look at where they are in Formula1, altho admittedly they use a very complicated hybrid system there, so it's not just about the turbo combustion engine...
I took an m5 for a test here in California and it did a 3.8 to 62mph GPS verified with my wife and the salesman in the car who is my friend. I havent gotten my hands on an m6 yet but the coupe version will surely do it in at least 3.6 seconds if not faster with just me in the car and a full tank of gas.
Majority of the European tests are showing M5/M6 run 4.4 - 4.8 seconds 0 - 60 mph without the 1 foot roll out. Plus this is a convertible, which is heavier so 5.3 seconds is right.
I always forget the numbers so when you compare I have no idea which car is quicker on paper. It would be nice to see some table in at end or at the beginning.
Modern canvas tops are so well insulated, there's not enough reason to justify the higher cost + weight. I think it looks better too but that's personal.

Well, the part about timing is true. I won't drive it on a race track, but on a road. So it's mostly down to how much space you need, and which car u like more. And, as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

You're totally wrong. The Mercedes is using a 5.5 liter V8 here (Not the old 6.2). It makes vastly more torque as well. BMW was simply out classed here.
It's 2 tonne plus (bmw) and if you're not using launch control, you're not doing it in 4.3 seconds, especially a turbo rwd car. I've owned 2 x similar cars e63 6.2 rwd and e63s 5.5l rwd and without launch control the 6.2l always did it in 4.3 to 4.5seconds but the high torque means I get poor times quite often of 5 seconds plus even though it should be sub 4 seconds on the 5.5l biturbo. Heck I reckon I can consistently get better 0 to 60 on my v8 330hp 645ci bmw than my e63s (which I both own at present ) even though the AMG hits 630hp on the dyno which is practically double the power
"Lackluster" sales for Mercedes was 500 Maybach sales a year, and RR sells 800 on average. In the grand spectrum of things for Mercedes and BMW, those 500-800 ultra-luxury cars they sell matter very little in terms of profit margin for each company. Mercedes is to replace the Maybach brand with another ultra-luxury model which will be a variation of the new S-Class, so if they were worried about sales they wouldn't jump right back into the market.
760Li was a v12. S63 is a V8. the S65 is a V12. The only reason they compared the S63 to the 760Li was because of their similarity in price. Put an S65 agaisnt the 760Li, well you know the rest... :)
This comparison is a bit unrealistic; the BM is a much bigger and heavier car than the Merc. Perhaps if the comparison had been over the convertible M3, but that car has a naturally aspirated V8. Point is, both cars aren't exactly on the same level. Regardless, it was a an awesome video!

The M Benz is an awesome car. Everyone says it is ugly, but go see it in person. The sound on the video does not do it justice. The car has an amazing sound. The comfort of the M Benz is awesome. The Horsepower is amazing for a M. Benz. It is really an amazing car. If you have not seen one or driven one, it is hard to comment. I have looked at both, driven both. The Comparison is wrong in the video, because I believe them to be in different classes.

Yep. We're at the era where a Mercedes AMG can outhandle and is lighter than a BMW M. The traditional M trademark has been lost, and along with that the reason to buy BMW M models.
First off, I am not an AMG fanboy nor am I a BMW fanboy, I pretty much like both brands the same. While in the early 2000's M was clearly a better performance division than AMG, I think this has changed, by a lot. I just think AMG is doing so much more than M, with their SLS, 65 V12 motor, and pretty much an AMG version of every Benz model. Not to mention, but the models that compare to BMW's small M range beat out the BMW! Go AMG! They've really progressed in the last 5 years. Next up is AWD..
M6 has oil pump failure happening, owners have been told to not drive their cars until theyre called in to have it repaired. The benz, is a old mans car, not a sports car. Still dont understand why people buy cars like these as sports cars, buy a 7 series/ s class as a heavy smooth luxury car and a gtr/z06 as a sports car.
Thats the thought i first got when i saw the video. The M6 is an 4-Seat-Coupe with sport engine which is much more like an Mercedes CL 63 AMG Coupe. That would be a nice duell. But this is like comparing a Porsche 911 Turbo with a Bentley Continental. Both very nice cars, but comparing them is senseless.

For those saying shit about this comparison it makes some sense since the BMW M6 is based in the 5-Series platform and the SL63 AMG is based in the E-Class platform. The thing is the SL is a Roadster and the 6-Series is a Cabriolet. Do you kids know the difference? Bet not. The true and fair comparison would be an M6 against an E63 AMG Cabriolet which... doesn't exist... So the SL is the closest to a 6-Series...

You're totally wrong. The Mercedes is using a 5.5 liter V8 here (Not the old 6.2). It makes vastly more torque as well. BMW was simply out classed here.
0-60 in the m6 does not take 5.3 seconds! What road surface did you test that on? Were you shifting manually?

It's 2 tonne plus (bmw) and if you're not using launch control, you're not doing it in 4.3 seconds, especially a turbo rwd car. I've owned 2 x similar cars e63 6.2 rwd and e63s 5.5l rwd and without launch control the 6.2l always did it in 4.3 to 4.5seconds but the high torque means I get poor times quite often of 5 seconds plus even though it should be sub 4 seconds on the 5.5l biturbo. Heck I reckon I can consistently get better 0 to 60 on my v8 330hp 645ci bmw than my e63s (which I both own at present ) even though the AMG hits 630hp on the dyno which is practically double the power
"Lackluster" sales for Mercedes was 500 Maybach sales a year, and RR sells 800 on average. In the grand spectrum of things for Mercedes and BMW, those 500-800 ultra-luxury cars they sell matter very little in terms of profit margin for each company. Mercedes is to replace the Maybach brand with another ultra-luxury model which will be a variation of the new S-Class, so if they were worried about sales they wouldn't jump right back into the market.
760Li was a v12. S63 is a V8. the S65 is a V12. The only reason they compared the S63 to the 760Li was because of their similarity in price. Put an S65 agaisnt the 760Li, well you know the rest... :)

This comparison is a bit unrealistic; the BM is a much bigger and heavier car than the Merc. Perhaps if the comparison had been over the convertible M3, but that car has a naturally aspirated V8. Point is, both cars aren't exactly on the same level. Regardless, it was a an awesome video!
How many seats can you count in the M6 and how many can you count in the SL? The SL is a roadster. The M6 is a GT.

i loved the old m6 but not the new one and i did not love the old sl63 but i am in love with the new one,reason being last m6 was a true bmw, the new m6 is heavier than the old one, with the sl new,it is lighter than the old one, that sums up everthing, please bring us the classic m cars,which are full of character,
Whats your point? They have been comparing the 4 door C63 sedan to the M3 coupe for ages. Those 2 seats don't mean anything. You can literally rip those seats right out of the M6 and it will still be slower. It lost by a full second, not a tenth of a second.
There is the point,the 4 seat cars are heavier than 2 seats,thats why MCD is faster in this case,the doars does not make cars havier,or just a little,the seats are not heavy,but the size of car with 4 seat is biger,so it means heavier as vell. (sory for my English)
The M Benz is an awesome car. Everyone says it is ugly, but go see it in person.
The sound on the video does not do it justice. The car has an amazing sound.
The comfort of the M Benz is awesome. The Horsepower is amazing for a M. Benz. It is really an amazing car. If you have not seen one or driven one, it is hard to comment. I have looked at both, driven both. The Comparison is wrong in the video, because I believe them to be in different classes.

M6 will never sound as sweet as the old M6 V10 and that AMG exhaust note sounds dirty in a good way.

Almost every reviewer says, that M6 is too heavy, feels quite numb and sounds monotonic. What happened to M division. Their cars used to be the best of every segment. Nowadays it isn't necessarily true, so M fans, donť live in the past. Praise the new SL and hope for better tommorow.

Yep. We're at the era where a Mercedes AMG can outhandle and is lighter than a BMW M. The traditional M trademark has been lost, and along with that the reason to buy BMW M models.

In general, but this SL is incredible
First off, I am not an AMG fanboy nor am I a BMW fanboy, I pretty much like both brands the same. While in the early 2000's M was clearly a better performance division than AMG, I think this has changed, by a lot. I just think AMG is doing so much more than M, with their SLS, 65 V12 motor, and pretty much an AMG version of every Benz model. Not to mention, but the models that compare to BMW's small M range beat out the BMW! Go AMG! They've really progressed in the last 5 years. Next up is AWD..
M6 has oil pump failure happening, owners have been told to not drive their cars until theyre called in to have it repaired.
The benz, is a old mans car, not a sports car.
Still dont understand why people buy cars like these as sports cars, buy a 7 series/ s class as a heavy smooth luxury car and a gtr/z06 as a sports car.
Thats the thought i first got when i saw the video. The M6 is an 4-Seat-Coupe with sport engine which is much more like an Mercedes CL 63 AMG Coupe. That would be a nice duell. But this is like comparing a Porsche 911 Turbo with a Bentley Continental. Both very nice cars, but comparing them is senseless.
but the 65 amg is a V12. the best comparison in my opinion would be the m6 coupe vs the CL 63 amg. both v8 performance engines
The big thing for me is the SL shed 125 kgs....the M6 gained 55kgs... MASSIVE swing..... Mercedes going in the right direction.

Fully agree with you. BMW should make a come back of the Z8 if they really want to directly compare to the SL even though the last Z8 was a failure in both sales and performance.
