  • It just started as a stupid bet:"my car is faster than yours" kind of thing. Well we took our respective car to Laguna Seca to see what's what. And the verdict is...

    Racing with the top down creates more vacuum, which ostensibly would slow the car down.

    I prefer the SL65. More and easier performance potential starting with modern Michelin Cup2's to actually put the power down. 65's are much quicker cars on these modern state of the art tires. Plus they're built better with larger fuel tanks and a special grade of V12 exclusive leather. The AMG suspension tune is smoother than the track hardened 63's firmer ride. Hold value much better too even with regular usage. It's only 118 lbs heavier than a 63 so not much difference in reality versus theory.

    Racing whith the roof down was an excellent idea, the car turns a lot faster!!!, the weight is down and is a lot more traction.

    I prefer the look of the 2005 version. I also am toying with the tought of getting an SL65. I dont know why but its just more special. Also I feel like a V12 fits the character of the car better. And it will demolish the 55 or 63 on the Autobahn. How is the reliabilty of the SL65. Did you have any issues with the car maintenance wise ?

    • @FastToysClub
      @FastToysClub  Před 4 lety +2

      I have to admit the SL65 is pretty costly to maintain. Tires, brakes is one thing. They go quicker than a normal car due to power and torque. Then mechanicals are occuring once a while: engine mount, air conditionning, engine control unit, are some of the parts/work that needed to be redone.
      But I wouldn't change the car no matter what. I love it.

      I have one and let me tell you I love it ,10/10 experience. The meintance cost is pretty high at least for the 2006 model. And yeah I totaly agree with you the V12 model is really special, the sound the V12 badge and this devilishly strong and smoth tork make this car trully special. And one more thing, it isn't a sport cat it's a power crusier but it still kicks when you floor it.

    Actually the SL63 AMG has 510hp and 590lb-ft of torque vs the SL65 AMG 620hp and 738lb-ft of torque. In a straight line both of these cars will cancel each other out at 3.6 secs in 0to60 and 11.8 secs quarter mile.

    i'm french but i'm really pissed to see that many french in the usa have such a creepy french accent it is horrible. they don't even try. typical french. it is s o annoying that they don't even try. this v12 mercedes can not be compared to the 63 amg because this v12 although being a nice engine is a very old engine. with 4 cylinders more than the 63 amg, the 65amg has almost same numbers. if it was using the same technology it should have 580x1.5 = 870 HP. using the lastest technology from the 45amg it should have 400x3=1200hp. ok cooling has to be considered. I never understood why Mercedes never released a V12 with the 45AMG technology / advancement. It will be a bad ass car with already existing technology so cost can be kept relatively ok. The limitations I see are cooling (cooling 1200hp is an issue for a daily drivable car) and new transmission needed and need differential. But for Mercedes I would not be surprised it it was possible. sad Mercedes did not go that way only for historical purpose in order to produce the " last almighty v12"
