So the AC was getting cold and then warm while driving. I did some research and found in a forum this item could be the issue. Luckily it was and it was a cheap fix too.
Unreal, this simple step saved us $1,200 from an estimate by Fitzgerald Used Cars, Wheaton, MD service center. We just bought a used 2017 Tucson and the AC was blowing cold then warm. 10 days after the bumper to bumper warranty ended of course. Fitzgerald tested the refrigerant level and found it was full and their recommendation was to replace the compressor as a Hyundai Technical Bulletin indicated that should fix the problem. Thank God my wife started poking around on the internet. We changed the cabin air filter first, but that didn't work. A $21 part from a Hyundai dealership did the trick. Hardest part was fitting underneath the dashboard to reach the sensor. Seems a dumb place for it as a driver could pretty easily kick it with big shoes on. The AC is blowing so cold now I had to direct the vent away from my hands on the steering wheel as they were freezing. Oh well, thanks a bunch Richie!
This was absolutely dead on!!! Thanks so much for this. The dealership had my car for 3 weeks and STILL didn't fix it. I saw this and did it myself in 2 minutes!. Lifesaver.
Had this problem under warranty 4 years ago. Same thing started happening last week. Saw this video, was able to snag one of these parts at a Kia dealer way from home as I was traveling and installed it this morning in about 2 minutes. You saved me $150. Thank you so much!!!!!!
This old video is solid gold! My goodness Thank you!. Daughter's car AC was out. Manifold gauge readings indicated bad compressor (@$1600+ job in my area). All I needed was this part and 5 minutes and it all works perfectly. Same problem on the Genesis G80 but no easy way to find the thermistor part number. Thank you Richie G. for helping me be a hero dad!
Had to comment, just bought a 16 Tucson same problem. There is a Kia dealer near my work. Called them and they ordered the part, same number as a Hyundai . Picked it up at lunch and put it in. After work got in to leave, drove two miles and the probe gauge I stuck in the vent said just above 40. Had to turn it back it was so cold and didn't go back to warm. Just wanted to say thanks, and thanks again! .
I have tried replacing the air conditioner coolant and have the correct pressure but a/c still doesn't cool. I found this sensor, thanks to this video. This sensor is located, on a Hyundai Tucson 2014, behind the black plastic panel that extends forward from the center console. You have to slightly bend the panel toward you and away from the console in order to get to it. It's kind of difficult, and you can feel the sensor, rotate it as shown in the video, to get it out. The video doesn't show the panel that hides the sensor. I removed my sensor but did not have a replacement, as of yet, so I put it back and will order the sensor. I also noticed that my radiator fan never energizes, even when the engine is hot. I tested it by disconnecting the plug at the top, and right side of the fan and put a couple of jumper wires to the + and the - terminal of the battery directly to the fan. The fan works ok this way, so it isn't getting the voltage when hooked up normally. The fuse is good, could still be the relay in the fuse panel, but I will try replacing both the relay and the sensor!
I was wrong about the radiator fan not energizing..and does work ok. I ordered my sensor from youtube and put it in but it didn't fix the a/c problem. I put a white mark on my a/c compressor clutch wheel to see if it turns if energized...but it doesn't ever turn...so it might be a bad compressor or the signal voltage that energizes the clutch is not there. The connector on the compressor is a bit hard to get to (from under the car after removing the large bottom engine cover. But, I was able to remove the connector plug, on the compressor, and checked continuity from the relay socket (after removing the relay) on the fuse/relay assy to the compressor plug (the yellow wire). I could have applied 12v to the corresponding pin (to the yellow wire on the plug) on the compressor to see if the clutch engaged. But, I had to wrap it up before I could do that. I think I will get a new plug with a wire to the matching pin with the yellow wire that I can more easily use to apply 12v to the clutch for testing purposes. The fuse is good. Could be that the relay isn't being energized (I thought of removing the relay shell cover and manually enabling it for testing (to see if the clutch energizes. Could be my pressure switches on the high and low coolant lines are faulty???
I've got a 2018 Tucson that I just purchased about 90 days ago from a the dealership. Same symptoms of warm air blowing. I was skeptical of this fixing the problem since it quite a flimsy part. Cost me $22 and change. Took 4 days to get it since it was special order too. Hopefully it is just low on refrigerant.
When my googling lead me to a possible thermistor problem I was defeated for a bit. In my old Jeep the whole dash had to come loose to get to it, huge pita
I see this video and I buy the a/c sensor and take me only two minutes I have this problem for the last four months and thank God this gentleman make me save a lot of money I spend only 17 dollars and 2 minutes to get fix
Omg.. I'm hoping this fixes my issue.. had the same problem literally within my first year of owning my brand new '17 Tucson. Eventually took it to the dealership, changed out the entire compressor only to be having the same issues. Thought it was low on refrigerant or had a leak or something. .but everything checked out just fine. I'm gonna order this part and hope it solves the issue, especially in this southern humid heat
@@RLGERHART Update, I went on Amazon ordered the part costing me about 16 dollars after shipping, and God know I can't thank you enough, now my AC is blowing a consistent 37 degrees on it's lowest setting with no issues, save what was going to cost me roughly $650.00 now that I'm no longer under warranty.
Does anyone know what the thermistor should read Ohms-wise at ambient ...and, after say, 10 minutes in the freezer? Mine reads 4.57kOhms at 20 degs C and 12.5kohms V.Cold...... So, working, but is it within the correct specifications?
Thank you for the vid Richie. My AC will start off cool and then gradually get warmer once I drive it this started 2 weeks ago. I'm leaning towards refrigerant refill only because my issue is new.. thoughts?
I assume the compressor/clutch is working if you get at least some cold air. I get none, and I think my clutch is blown bc i can smell it (more of an electrical burnt coil smell) and chased it back through the relay and couldn't get it to engage manually. Interesting that the fuse didn't blow. Trying to get my mechanic to replace just the clutch.
Hello friends for the Santa Fe I think its on the left side close to where the cabin filter is. Remove the glove compartment and on the bottom left next to the glove compartment railing. Hope that helps buddy cheers!!
1:23 Hi Richie, can you explain how you for the cover off? I have a 2017 and would love to change this myself. I’m afraid to pop it out/break it to get to where the thermistor needs to go. Thanks!
I went back- looked entirely in the wrong place. What is the harness you were referring to? I managed to turn it and pop the whole thing out. I still need to order the part, so I’m just messing with it for now. Thanks again!
Thanks for this video I think 🤔 I have the same issue for the AC specially during Summer time when temperatures hit 85-95•F can’t get cold inside the car please where can I order this part because I check some AutoZone but couldn’t get it
Was the check engine light on? Mine just popped up today. Ac had been blowing ice cold except when I stop. When I would stop at a light it went completely warm air until I started driving again. Today my check engine light came on and a service electronic system control message popped up on my screen and the ac started blowing only hot air.
Hi Richie, how exactly did you pop the wiring out in order to connect it to the new thermistor? I tried pulling on it, shoving a tiny screwdriver in it. Is there something to press? It’s difficult to see even with a flashlight. Thanks!
Is this a common issue in the brand new 2022 Tucson as well? I test drove two of them in Phoenix, AZ a couple weeks ago and both had cool to hot air the whole time I test drove them. The sales guy told me his colleagues also noticed this issue when they took the 2022 Tucson for test drives too. That's crazy if this is also causing the issue in them as well since they are brand new from the factory!
Yeah I believe this has been an ongoing issue from manufacturing. I'd bought be a brand new '17 Tucson and literally within that first like 5 months of ownership I was experiencing this issue, and unto this day still dealing with it. Anyway, sorry for my " novel " lol..I'm just trying to avoid it from getting worse and or fixing it from blowing warm then cool..not really bad but getting worse..thank you again!
I bought my thermistor for $18 bucks. for my 2017 hyundai tucson, it did not work like I would like. No more hot air, but it is not blowing real cold air. Today was a kind of a cool day here in central calif. High today in 80s, tomorrow back to 100 and above for most of the summer. I checked the pulley on the a/c it is turning. Is there a break in period for New thermistor? I drove around for about 15 min. Have not changed coolant in 5 yrs. Maybe that is problem.

My 2013 Hyundai Tucson does not want to cool down and it does not have leaks in the system, I have loaded it several times and it does not improve, is that part that is wrong? thanks for your help 👍🏼
My 2013 Hyundai Tucson ac has been out for weeks. Mechanic is saying it’s the compressor and I tried to use the ac refrigerant and it was on red. Would this work?
Just curious for anybody else, I got the part and 10 minutes later it is changed out. Does your AC blow cold air right away or does it take time. I noticed you said you drove it for 20 minutes and you had cold air. Was it instantaneous or did it take the 20 minutes. For mine, the car was out of warranty and the dealership said it was some wiring harness not getting enough voltage(it would have been $5,000 to fix). I figured I would try this, cost $12.50 for the part.
Hello! I know this is a long shot since this is an older video, but I’ll ask anyway. I bought the thermastor. I pulled out the original but I don’t know how to take the wires out of it to replace it with the new one. I can’t find any tutorial or video that pulls out the wires. I obviously don’t want to damage it. Thank you in advance if anyone has any advice

Richie G no problem, I replaced the same part but they had to update the ecu afterwards. My ac wasn’t kicking on then off it either, it was only hot air maybe that’s why you didn’t need the update

@@ajaaniajaa Can't find it on my 2019 Tucson too. My Tucson got the same problem. Dont think the same item code apply to 2019 Tucson. Anyone has idea for it?
My AC got cooler (passenger side where the problem was) because I replaced the fused fuse for the 12V port. I don’t see how that has any connection with the ac and how that made it cooler, it’s really odd.
Tried this for my 2017 Hyundai Tucson. Didnt work. Saw a comment elsewhere that this didnt work for them either; someone replied that the part was updated (97143-C5000-QQH) and to try that one instead. Well I've tried both and neither worked. Very disappointed. I only have 37,000 mi on it.
@@RLGERHART First the dealer said it's low on refrigerant. I hadn't even pulled out of the dealership and it was still blowing warm air. Took it back. They then said they've detected a leak and it's the evaporator core. I found that hard to believe and told them to leave it as is, especially since they wanted well over $2000 to fix. A friend of mine, who's done mechanic work in the past with his family, said it does happen (the evaporator core). But when he saw my mileage, he found it hard to believe too. He did a quick preliminary check and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I told him at times, it feels like it is trying to pull in cold air, but only happens for a few seconds and randomly. He thinks I should try adding refrigerant again (feels the dealer might've been incompetent here). I'll provide an update in the near future. Thanks for your time!

i recharged my ac and it worked for a couple months and its blowing warm again i changed out the blower and resister so i will try this before paying a arm and a leg at the shop
MsLeelee94 Sorry for the delayed response. Good luck, hope it works out for you.
Did it end up working?
Work out for you?
My 2013 Hyundai Tucson does not want to cool down and it does not have leaks in the system, I have loaded it several times and it does not improve, is that part that is wrong? thanks for your help 👍🏼
Leo body Shop Zaldy In my case it was. Now you can overcharge your system and that will cause it to only blow hot air.
@@RLGERHART how do u fix an overcharge? I have a 2012 Hyundai Tucson
I had a problem with my 2017 Tucson. At first only the heat worked, not only ac works, think this would solve my issue ?
If you have the extra $20, wouldn’t hurt to give it try.
I have the same problem in my 2006 Hyundai Tucson, but I wonder if it would be buy the same Thermostat for mine?
It was only a $20 part for mine. Worth a shot!
Thank you!

My 2013 Hyundai Tucson ac has been out for weeks. Mechanic is saying it’s the compressor and I tried to use the ac refrigerant and it was on red. Would this work?
I can’t say for sure but for $20 it couldn’t hurt to try.
Mine blew cold air right away. I drove it for 20min just to test it out. No issues since. Hope this helps. Good luck.
I changed mine as well let it run for a bit didn’t get cold 😢 will try a short drive later
Hey, you don't have to buy a new one. Just clean the sensor with a map sensor cleaner, and it'll be as good as new!
I did t think about that. Thanks for heads up.
Is this the same part number for the 2012 model?
I’m not really sure. You might need to call your dealer and see if it matches.
I’ve changed it. Still no cold air coming out. I’ve also recharged my system. It might be the blend door actuator.
Very well could be. Sorry it didn’t work out for ya.
It was worth a try. Now the hard part is accessible the blend door actuator underneath the dash. I assume the part itself is under $100.
Hello, I had to use a very small flat head screwdriver to get the harness to release.
@@RLGERHART it’s popped out but there’s wires in it. I’ll have to look at it better tomorrow morning. I appreciate your quick reply 🙂
@@minimakersstudio The wires sit inside the harness. One side of the harness plugs into the other side. I don’t see what you see. Hope this helps.
@@RLGERHART it's hard to pop off. It's really stuck on there. I'll keep trying but it's really frustrating. I think my grip/fingers are not strong enough. I'm hoping this is the problem and the piece I need to replace, but I really can't pop it off. I'll keep trying to do my best. Thx for your help.
@@minimakersstudio With mine, there was a slot that the other side clipped in. I used a small flat screwdriver to release it.
Will this part also fit a 2011 ix35/tucson?
I honestly don’t know. I’m sure the dealer would be able to provide you with an answer. Sorry
Will this be the same part number for a 13 Tucson? Our compressor works but it’s not getting cold
Found this on Amazon.

Ok thanks
My 2016 hyundai tucson stopped blowing hot air.does this fix it?🤔
Honestly I have no clue if it will. Sorry.
Tengo un tucson ix del 2014 y tarda en enfriar un km despues de encenderlo. Aue sera?

Try this. Good luck.

Hi, do i need to disconnect the battery first?
You can if you want, I did not.
Can this fix the heater also
I can’t be certain since we didn’t have any heating issues. Sorry I can’t be of any help.
I replaced this thermostat two times in a five year period. Don’t understand why this thing is problematic?
Thermostat or thermistor ??
@@RLGERHART the one you changed in the video.
@@shaikhshahriyar8703 did you disconnect the battery before you install?
I hope this is my issue but I hear a noise from the compressor
Justin Herass Sorry for the delayed response. I didn’t have a noise but I hope this works out for you.
Richie G no problem, I replaced the same part but they had to update the ecu afterwards. My ac wasn’t kicking on then off it either, it was only hot air maybe that’s why you didn’t need the update
Will this part work for 2017 Tuscon?
I don’t see why not. I would check with your local dealer first to see if they are the same. Good luck 🤞🏻
@@RLGERHART Yes it is the same! My a/c gets cold then warm, sometimes cold for about 5 min back to warm. Today it is 104deg here in Central California.
Hi, i’ve got the same car and the same problem except that AC doesn’t get cold at all it just stays warm all the time. Does that mean i have to replace the sensor first or do i have to refill the AC?! ... & thanks for shared vid
Did u fix it ? What was it ?
My blow warm air I connect the hose it’s on red if I buy that piece can it fix it
With it being a $20 part, I’d say it’s worth a try. Good luck 🤞🏻
@@RLGERHART just order it 40$ now crazy inflation
When you had this issue was you AC compressor still fully engaging?
Robert Mason Yes, the compressor worked just fine.
I have a 2019 Hyundai Tucson but the sensor is not in the same location. Does anyone have a video where I can see it. Thank you!

I found this. According to this diagram it should be right around the same area. Part #24 in the diagram.
@@RLGERHART Thank you for your reply, I tried with the diagram but can’t find it.
Did it keep switching between humid air and cold air before the fix?mines gotten to the point where its no more cold air and was going to use a/c pro but the gauge is reading a malfunction
Ivan Castaneda Yes, it would blow cold air then warm air and then back to cold.
@@RLGERHART thank you sir
I did it & a/c now blows ice cold
Hero Q Good deal. Glad I could help.
Yeah but how do you replace it bro
All you have to do is, disconnect the wire harness and then turn and pull. It will slide right out. Reverse the process when installing the new one.
I can’t find it on the driver’s nor passenger side in the 2019 Tucson
@@ajaaniajaa Can't find it on my 2019 Tucson too. My Tucson got the same problem. Dont think the same item code apply to 2019 Tucson. Anyone has idea for it?
My AC got cooler (passenger side where the problem was) because I replaced the fused fuse for the 12V port. I don’t see how that has any connection with the ac and how that made it cooler, it’s really odd.
Name of the part?
Thermistor assembly AC Evap.
Part# 97143 C5000
Hello what is the name of that parts
At 50 seconds screen shot the number on the bag and then google that number that will tell you what part it is bud.
@@s.h.1389 Wow, only 37k. Sorry that it didn’t work for you. I’m curious on what else it could be at 37k.
Wow STG Auto dealership in bellflower was charging me 600 to replace the compressor 😆🤦♂️
Did this work for you?
