I absolutely adore the theme of this game. It so unique and absolutely love how the theme has shaped gameplay with the shells just so well done. Hopefully we see this on an episode of all patched up because it seems like an absolute blast

It’s because they are releasing it simultaneously on all consoles and if you notice only the Switch version has issues because it requires way more work to get it to run smoothly. Even Nintendo is struggling to have their first party games run without issues. Both Zelda games required patches
Thanks for this great and honest review. Can’t wait to see it in an episode of all patched up. I think once the patches roll out, that will help me decide whether to get it on switch for the portability factor, or just get it on PC for the better experience.

There's lots of difficulty settings even a gun that you can spawn that one shots everything

I’ve been excited for this one since the reveal trailer! That said, as someone who plays exclusively in handheld mode, this was the confirmation I needed to wait just a bit longer for some optimization patches to roll out. All in all, I’m glad to hear the game ended up being as good as I thought, and once it’s in a bit of a better state, I’ll gladly pick it up for myself!
I'm waiting til I'm paid next to get it, but it's encouraging to hear what the performance of the Switch release is like, and I trust Aggro Crab to deliver when it comes to the patches to iron out the existing issues, so it's definitely going on my wishlist for now.

I was expecting the performance issues for handheld so thank you for confirming. I don't have the eshop credit right now (sadly can't buy it off SwitchUp) but by the time I do, the patches will have long since addressed plenty of issues, especially handheld performance. Will you revisit it in an All Patched Up in future, it sounds like it deserves it? Thanks for the review Mark, so happy that my excitement for this DarkBob SoulsPants adventure was warranted. Just FYI, Weta Workshop is the New Zealand based special effects and props company that Peter Jackson uses in pretty much all of his films (most famously they did the effects and built many of the sets in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies). I think Tales of the Shire is their first video game but they have an obvious conection to both 3d modeling and JRR Tolkein properties. I am on the fence about how their game looks though.

I always wanted to try a Souls like game and honestly this one is just perfect, I absolutely adore hermit crabs!!
I'm one of those weird people that buy games on multiple platforms (provided they're on deep discount). I'll wait a while and pick it up on Steam Deck, Switch, and by virtue of Steam Deck, my PC for gaming on the go and to see the compare and contrast.

Thanks, guys. Looks like an awesome game. Yeah, I'm one of those players that plays almost entirely in handheld, so I'll definitely be looking out for upcoming patches. But this is on my pre-backlog list - I have such a vast backlog of actual games, then I have the games waiting to get into my backlog. Lol!

I got this on Steam for my ROG Ally. Runs amazingly!! Get it for PC is you wanna play in handheld. It’s awesome.

Has become very intrigued by this game, even as a person who have never really had any interest in soulslikes, and will probably consider getting it when it's all patched-up (since I always play in handheld, in part because I prefer it, but also because my tv hasn't really worked in years, so I don't really have a choice) because it looks really brilliant and charming and the loan shark at the start reminds me of a shark pen I once had that I adored because it quite sucked as a pen, but it looked cute and made sounds and light and I found that very entertaining.

Yeah, I had the same problem. The game was really laggy, the inputs were a bit delayed, and the graphics were subpar. I really hope they fix these problems soon.

Awesome looking game. The crab reminds me of Sebastian from The Little Mermaid or Hawthorne from Sherman's Lagoon (a newspaper comic). Also, it bothers me how marketing ALWAYS has to label a game something like "soulslike" or "boomer shooter." I know they're trying to reach out to the younger gamers with labels, but still. A fun game is a fun game, irregardless of genre. Awesome review!!

I’ve recently been purchasing games on the ps5 rather than the switch version. Don’t get me wrong, I love playing switch games but I think it’s well overdue the next switch console. A great review that’s definitely peaked my interest for this game, but with its current state I’ll go for the ps5. Thanks

Pre-ordered this one, and can definitely see a few performance issues as someone who plays exclusively on handheld. Aside from that, it may just be me, but navigation is a bit confusing sometimes. I'm currently running around trying to find the friggin' moon caves. I know it said to head to a western tower, but um... yeah. No soldiers will let me into any of the towers, and I'm now thinking about leaving the castle altogether to look for whatever tower I was supposed to find. Or maybe I misread and there's no tower at all? Regardless, some sort of indication on the map (or in-world) to tell me where I'm supposed to go would be a huge help for someone as directionally challenged as myself.
Despite these issues, I still expect to get a lot from this game. The combat feels decent, and I've chuckled several times already at the humor. If we can just get that performance patch, I'll be happy as a crab in its shell. Or something like that...
Unfortunate that there’s no physical, even still I think I’m going to pick this one up with hopes of a patch coming soon to fix the resolution and the performance.

Honestly when I saw this one the recent indie direct, I just skipped to video past assuming it’d be a simplistic kiddie game. You enthuse your love of the game, your excitement emanating in your voice. I’m now definitely interested. One for the wish list pending that handheld fixing (the only way I play) and a physical copy

Even the Steam version had some slowdown. At least they recognized it early and plan to patch it
I play mostly docked so thank goodness. I was foolish and got it yesterday to get the 10% off when there were still no Switch reviews out which is usually a very bad sign. Relieved to see that while performance is bad it's not so bad that you can't play it or enjoy it.

@@crossbat While the first bit I played was fun I would wait for sure as the combat doesn't feel right just on the first boss. I've been playing Warm Snow instead that was hanging out in my backlog.
ACT is still fun but once you get to enemies that you need precise timing for(just the boss after getting your first shell) it really falls off with the performance bringing down the combat.
Can't wait for it to be patched though. Everything else about it was great. Even with the pop in it still looks nice as well.

I would recommend playing it on an Xbox or PlayStation due to performance but its definitely worth picking up, my current GOTY contender
