About Trailmakers:
In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

A tip for players who like to make realistic planes is to keep steering help to faking a struggle to control at higher speed (you should use this more for older planes then newer planes)!
Another tip: having helicopter motors in the plane can create "fake" momentum (pitch, roll & yaw) and spin the plane, if you can hide it, it can visually work
@@i_am_copper3384 It's better to not use it though. It kinda feels like cheating. But i know it's good lol
@@roelieboy204 what are they gonna do about it? report it?
@@panzer_tank It's just not fun (Atleast for me personally)
haven't watched scrapman for like half a year, it is refreshing and it brings back good memories.
welcome back.

Welcome back to the wedge gang!
@@Dthwsh7 oh i remember wedge gang :D
I am always glad to see more Trailmakers on the channel! One suggestion I would offer to anyone trying to build a fast hovercraft is to disable air control on your seat because it tries to roll with A/D rather than yaw. Also having your control surfaces on top of your vehicle will make it roll when you turn left or right because they're above the center of mass. What I would generally do is use 2 of the smaller fins, one above, one below, but on the same steering hinge or whatever.
If you want easier controls on a hovercraft, use helicopter motors to spin it in a yaw, as it doesn't need to be moving for the tails to work
thanks, scrapman I really needed this video. as a kind of old viewer of the channel I see you have been trying some slightly new things lately. I'm liking these, keep up the good work👍
Nice. Thanks for the great insight! Very helpful to see the values (angle, strength, etc.) you used.
I wish Trailmakers would help in creating flying vehicles by showing center of mass and center of lift by putting semi-transparent crosshairs there (see main assembly) (would be relatively easy for them to do, impossible for the user to calculate in a block environment with non-perfect physics).
I hope the devs keep at it and add some badly needed useful new stuff (after that they can play with decals ;)), like making everything that just exists in chunky blocks (can't build some things in reasonable dimensions due to that and can't build it big due to the 700 block limit) available as 1x1x1 (e.g. servos).
Yeah we need 1x1x1 blocks, servos and more. Also really need center of ... Indicators.
You accidently guessed the newest trailmakers update!
@@im_m3 ... and I'm very happy they did that. :)
Notable mention: Sensors hooked directly to thrusters somehow can work very well, which means you can literally connect a sensor pointed down to a thruster and you have yourself a pretty good hovercraft which will rapidly pulse instead of getting in a feedback loop! However, you have to use gymbal or small thrusters, as those don't get stronger over time. You also can't connect the sensors indirectly up to the thrusters and it will work much better when on a suspension with dampening and stiffness on 0.
This video helps so much, I thought using helicopter engines where harder to program for pitch and yaw but it's very simple, I'll definitely be using them more often now
Thank you 😊. Helps out a beginner. I have been watching you for a while and never thought you would do a tutorial but you are really good at explaining things nice work 👍.
Thank you i bought this game today and wasnt having fun because i couldnt figure anything out even after watching tutorials this helped so much
love these trailmakers videos keep up the great builds
5:46 17:00 This is exacly the reason you wanna use steering hinge with steering help all the way into the 100% so you can have gentle controlls while flying faster and more maneuverability when you slow down. Its a way to go.
I use steering hinges on all of my planes.
Wanted to see this type of vid from a loooong tiimmee! Thanks for helping ScrapMan!
Thats funny... blue angels are a sort of respectful copy of the original stunt formation flyers, the red arrows... which is a name more suitable to your nice red stunt plane. :)
Also your derpy initial helicopter example with the propeller makes me think of woody's opinion of buzz lightyear's flight capability. "That's just falling with style!" Hehe
This is probably one of the best trailmakers beginner tutorials
Hello, scrpman, you've helped me so much in games and you've inspired me to make my own channel, thank you. Here's a virtual hug 🤗
fun fact: when me and my friend made an aircraft, steering help actually does help with control. 0 steering help makes it lag before abruptly changing direction
It depends on what you want - if you want a plane to control more slowly at high speeds like a real plane then steering help is useful, but if you want something that's just ridiculously maneuverable you can turn it off. But also keep in mind that larger wings on larger planes are harder to move through the air in roll especially so you might need more control authority the faster you go, not less, to achieve the same maneuverability.
@@stevepittman3770 no no, we did try with 0 help. it's not responsive, but a few moments later it immediately flips direction.
@@beaconblaster33 Sounds like you have the angle set too high. Even with 100% steering help it will eventually get to full deflection which explains why it would flip out after a moment.
@@stevepittman3770 alright maybe configuration matters because we did it on a canard plane
Hi Scrapman, i just finished building my big plane in trailmakers. It's a big "cargo" plane that has a working autopilot. It flies straight and really nice without using helicopter engines or gimbals. It's also possible to controll the angle of the autopilot. Thanks for making all the amazing content, i bought trailmakers and scrap mechanic because of your videos!
If you are interested in the plane the full name on the workshop is "KLM Plane (X & Y Autopilot)" by "roelieboy204"
Great video!
I work as a dev on Trailmakers, and even I learned something from it :D
However, there is a reason scrap mechanic and IoD are used occasionally:
Scrap mechanic has a designated bearing part, and mechanical contraptions are far easier to make there, plus it has tools like the welding tool that make it easier to plan out and construct those kings of creations
Instruments of destruction now is mainly used for weapon designs, for obvious reasons; but it also has rope parts, chain parts, and other parts that neither scrap mechanic nor trail-makers have, and allows things like the trebuchet to be built in IoD where it was barely, if at all possible in scrap mechanic and trail-makers.
Somehow this helps a lot since I come from scrap mechanic and I struggle building in Trailmakers.
Actually a super helpful video. Since, I got Trailmakers because of you, kAN, and Kosmo/Moonbo. But all u could make was functional cars. Now I know how to make the other things
Thanks SO much ScrapMan! I be been struggling so much to make a helicopter that I just quit and made my own. Now I could have my own heli!
I thank you for the tail fin tip for the hovercraft! This will help me make my hover bike turn😊
Thank you so much for this video. I finally was able to fix my planes and helicopters from a long time ago because of this video
On the helicopter fit servos on the side then angle sensor then helicopter engines and double up on the other side. By setting up the angle sensors to keep balanced the servos hold u in a position.
Day 3 of asking:
I recently watched your video on making a plane in trail makers using wedges for wings and that made me wonder if you could make a helicopter using the same methods. I think that would be a really cool video idea that I'd definitely like to see!
you cant. Trailmakers doesnt actually push air with the wedges, so it would be like you have rotating bricks on top your vehicle.
That plane only worked because thrust + aerial control = flight, the wedges weren't doing any lifting at all. Sadly that means you can't use wedges as rotors for a helicopter. But you can use regular wings, and you can even have them adjustable pitch with spinning servos so you can control how much lift you have (like the collective control in a real helicopter.)
thank you bro this helped me out so much bro
NGL this is a really good tutorial video for beginners. Thanks Scrapman!
You little hovercraft - firstly great ideas with the wings. No tyre frictions? Air friction instead! Hehe but, i think you should extend it to include horizintal stabilisation as well, it should help to avoid the front corner dipping into a turn so much.
Really great instructional video! I can see this being useful for newer players. And me.
I'm not very good at the game 💀
You always turn steering help all the way down. I've experimented with it a bit, and actually find it really helpful since I'm on keyboard and can't control the responsiveness. If I'm driving a car at high speeds, I don't want the steering to be as responsive as if I were driving at low speeds, otherwise I'll lose controll or roll. The same goes for other creations as well. Tapping the buttons helps, but the input is still much faster and will eventually make the creation lose control. Adjusting the steering help helps a lot and gives me more control. You should try experimenting with it a bit
I remembered this game and I have so many good memories of you
6:03 ScrapMan: "We're basically a Blue Angel at this point".
Air Force, show him what the Thunder Birds are all about!
These are new memories lol
Thx a lot now ima go build my own helicopter! Nice vid too👍
lol this feels so sponsored, although your channel has grown so much due to Trailmakers that it's warranted :)
Thanks a trillion, now I can make planes too! heh my closest thing to a flying vehicle prior is a car that has upward thrust in a way that it is absolute balance of thrust (Hold button and it goes straight up on the grid map)
I must say, that very vehicle pretty much sololed any non-exploding scrap on the lost in space gamemode (where I made it) lol
ScrapMan, you and the boys should do a "minimalist" build similar to this for a multiplayer monday.
Smallest build grid glider, car, heli, plane, whatever.
Would be pretty solid
or red angel :). I play Trailmakers and my favorite vehicle is the Airplane cuz it's so satisfying to fly when you can get it to work so thank you so much for this video scrapman it will help a lot! :))))))))))
You have one of the blades edge on the wind, aka the wrong way around on both rotors!
Awesome stuff. Thanks.
If anyone is wondering he doesn't use a rotating survo it's a helicopter engine and any of them work
Great showcasing
Bro you saved my life. Spent the last few hours getting parts for a plane that i went to sandbox to build 😂
Also thank you for such a noob friendly video 🤣
Thank you so very much ScrapMan I was struggling so badly before this video but now im so much better thank you so so so so so much
Love these tutorials! Maybe you could do one for SM?
I just got Trailmakers and didn't know how to get my plane to steer. After watching this I can confidently say it worked
I actually started playing it recently, i always liked the game thanks to you but realized I could get it for free about a week ago. I already competed the campaign ad got back to space, and i built an armored truck that looks amazing along with other basic vehicles. They're definitely not the prettiest things tho, more like scrap cars😂
Hey scrapman been watching your content saw this video a bit late but i did this concept myself with a car land boat plane
I think it would be really cool if scrapman or someone would redo the stranded in space campaign with all their knowledge and experience of the game. I feel like we would see some really cool new creations that we would otherwise see
Thanks for the video scrapman You helped me build a helicopter
welcome back to the channel ladies and gentlemen!
today, im gonna show how easy it is to hit that subscribe button!
Mans should be the spokesperson for trailblazers official
Yeah
I always wanted to get the game
Gonna buy it today
Tank you
Very valuable information
good job on the heli (the 1st one)
I do that, so that no fighter plane can shoot me down. . .
I made my own plane with no knowledge and it's really hard to control but once you learn its so cool and fun
Miss trailmakers multiplayer games with kan, kosmo and moonbo. Can we expect an amphibious vehicle king of the hill challenge.
Hello scrapman.
I really enjoy your videos.
Please can you try building a real life modern fighter jet ?
Much appreciated 😁

Blue Angel in a red plane…
As a Brit it’s the Red Arrows
Nice content Scrapman keep it going!
i really struggle with helos thanks scrapman
I went from 2 years ago not knowing how to build a plane to now using the full 700 complexity limit, making an f35
Hi I’m just wondering how u got the vip seat scrapmaan
Scrap man you should do trailmaker builds like where you do in the scrap mechanic yeah like that but in trailmaker
1 min,10 mins and 30 mins
for the hover craft, i would use POWERD tailfins
Fun fact! Helicopter is not heli copter, but rather, helico pter.
Trailmakers idea: make a car without using wheel blocks
It wood be cool I you added motercycle
Making a vehicle in trailmakers is super easy, barely an inconvenience
-Ryan George
instead of reversing controls, you can give one of the helicopter engines a negative power and it will spin backwards.
Scrapman's helicopter was good but I made a slight touch of my own
Trailmakers should use this as an ad
I dont know if this could work but, can you make a plane with wings replaced by helicopter rotors?? It would be cool to see that!
I have done that before, and it works quite well except for the fact that your wings are onl as long as the helicopter blade, and if you want ailerons you have to turn your whole wing so it is not the most practical
@@KC-dg9ku okay!
@@KC-dg9ku with the new update there is a bigger helicopter blade right?
Now make the hardest creations to build
I don't even play Trailmakers, and I still found some stuff out that would help me a lot
What 💀
day 43 of asking scrapman to do a multiplayer where everyone starts at the crashed ship with a craftbot already at the mechanic station and everyone has 30 minutes to build a vehicle from scratch, no glitches, thrusters allowed, after which everyone meets up and races along some road
Could we get a full tutorial for a roughly 50 power core combat helicopter now that the Airborne update has been released?
Very true. I think scrap machanics is hard.
the “really dumb simple plane “ is better than my first plane which didn’t even get off to ground
This feels like a mumbojumbo tutorial
On the hovercraft, could you instead make the hover pads rotate slightly for propulsion? Do the physics work like that? Or would you just drive into the ground? Lol
Finally, i woke up early to be 5 minutes late of scrapman's video
Atleast i am indeed the 85th like

Any chance of making a new video like this with the new flying update?
