I met Rudy Vallee in a parking lot at Universal in the early ‘80s. He told me I was too young to know who he was. 😀
What!! I love how he always played on his gimmick of being too old
That just meant you had good taste. That’s awesome, thanks for sharing!
King cat Walsh: "You have some crazy cats around here"😂😂
Great video. I love hearing conversation about great old shows, especially I Love Lucy and Hogans Heroes!
Love it when you remind us to celebrate William Frawley.
He was a legendary icon
Arthur King Cat Walsh great jitter bugger!
Great episode and top notch Arthur dancing with Lucy that super song!!! Not to mention Ethel and Fred doing that fantastic sounding Poo Poo Pee Doo dance and song routine from the 1920's when I was about 30(haha). Absolutely perfect!!!
Boop boop be doo !
@@tigger06Boop-oop-a-doop(Betty Boop - 1930's).
"Man! Dig that crazy dancing bear!* Haha! Speaking of wardrobe, in the 90s I was able to come across a new remake of the tie Ricky often wore with the wavy polka dots pattern! Whenever I wore it I called it my "Ricky Ricardo tie"!
I love listening to Rudy Vallee's music - there are several of his songs out here on CZcams. One of my all-time favorite films is from 1967 - "Bonnie and Clyde" (Warren Beatty/Faye Dunaway). In the opening scene, Rudy Vallee's song ("Deep Night") is playing on the radio, as "Bonnie" readies herself for work. The song truly set the mood/tone to the early 1930's, when the story of the couple's first meeting took place. I don't recall seeing the Lucy episode from the 1970's - it would be fun to see.
I think it’s great that they use it in a couple different episodes why not? That’s a beautiful jacket and I love
I love Lucy
It was the best show
thank you for all you do .
God bless
It’s cool to see things like the coat being kept and then see them appear from show to show over the decades. Thanks for the video Rick, I hope you’re doing well, keep up the great work and take care!
My grandparents told me about all the silent stars, starting with Gish. They told me about DW Griffith.
Rick,
As usual, another great catch! This is why we call you The Sherlock Holmes of Classic TV. 😊
I've seen the ILL Jitterbug episode countless times, but I don't recall ever seeing the Rudy Vallee episode on HL.
Thanks for sharing and thanks for your persistent message of hopefulness.
Best regards,
Paul +
Desilu studios always re- used props in all their series. Love how you spot these little things. There was a chair in the first year of Star Trek that was used in other episodes in every year of the series. This was the beginning of series t.v. , not a lot of big money in the industry back then. Having your entire series in colour was new back then. Half of Andy Griffith was filmed in black and white.
Props are....props lol Great to see them get so many uses out of one item! Appreciate ya Rick!
I don't recall seeing either of those episodes! Probably did, but so long ago I've forgotten them! I did notice one difference. The sleeve cuffs looked different in the Here's Lucy episode. Probably due to re-tailoring them, or making repairs due to the age of the coat. Surprised it lasted that long!!
Thanks for a fun video with a clever topic. Keep up the great work
I loved that I Love Lucy episode!! I’m not sure I saw the other one. I really thought I saw all of the Lucy shows! I’ll have to look that one up.
Love the I Love Lucy episode and watched it many times. Don’t specifically remember the Here’s Lucy episode. I only watched it periodically.
“Man, that’s the coolest!”
“Coolest? Man, it’s the hottest!”
😆
The coat is a classic. They should have used it as often as they could! I saw the Fred one when I was six. I also saw the Rudy Vallee one too. I did not make the connection of the coat being the same. I wonder if it was used on any other Desilu sitcoms.
Wow! I never noticed it before. I have seen both episodes. I loved The Lucy Show.
Well spotted Rick; many viewers don't pick up on the props and I admire the writers for Fred's one liners and wonder if Bill Frawley wrote any of these! I do recall the Lucy Show with Rudy Vallee but never cared for it as I do for the I love Lucy episode of Lucy Gets Her Eyes Examined.
And Rudy was very big in that same time. And I think using that cost again for Rudy was exactly what was correct - he sang through a megaphone.
Another great catch, Rick. I think it's great to reuse wardrobe and props.
I also love this episode, Rick! It is so funny, it makes me crack up every time I watch it. I’m smiling just thinking about it lol 😂
Love your channel!👏
Should have put the hat on Rudy too!
Wow! Amazing
Your videos are THE COOLEST MAN!
You’re the coolest!
Thought I knew these two episodes inside and out. Thank you!
"Lucy Gets her Eyes Examined" is a great episode. I like the eye doctor scene the best. So funny! And when Lucy comes home and throws her coat over Ethel because she can't see, and Ethel has to steer Lucy to her bedroom because she can't see because her eyes are so dilated. I have seen "Here's Lucy,", but I haven't seen very many episodes. I don't think I've seen the Rudy Vallee episode.
King Cat was the coolest!! 😎
Awesome information Rick facts bro facts very informative buddy great video
Who's Bill Parker? Haha!
Bill PARK-er haha. I love how Desi says it
This is a hilarious ILL episode (Fred's little strut was a scene stealer) and I'm sure it is the same coat. I remember Lucie commenting that DESILU never three anything away and they recycled props all the time. I never saw the Rudy Valley episode but that was a great catch.
Hi Rick - trust this note finds you doing okay in the crowded ways of life.
I wanted to let you know that I have so enjoyed watching the I Love Lucy episodes on Pluto TV. I think I have seen them all, and I can't thank you enough for that recommendation! You are the best, Rick! Due to circumstances in life, it's often hard to get to comment a lot right now, but I wanted to give you a shout out here!
You’re most welcome! Thanks for the continued support!
Great classic TV sleuth work, as usual. I remember both episodes very well. Rudy Vallee prior to his appearance on Here's Lucy" was enjoying a resurgence of popularity from his work on the broadway musical and film " How to succeed in business without really trying". In show biz everything old is new again!
He also appeared in the first episode of the Lucy Desi Comedy Hour and did a quite good job
I always wondered what happened to the furniture. I do know the piano was used in Thelma Lou’s house in an episode of the Andy Griffith Show. But I always wondered what happened to the rest. I know the China pattern Lucy used was called Franciscan Ivy. I have a few plates of it.
I remember the ILL episode. It was the coolest. 😎 😆 🤣 Not really remembering the other one. Must have seen it. I saw them all. 😁
Why throw away a good prop? 🤷♀️
Great video! A lot of history on that coat. If it could talk, I’d run! lol. Seriously, it looked very well kept for all its age and use. Wonder what happened to the hat though?
Those coats were worn by college kids way back when so anyone still wearing one would be considered way out of style. That was the pun.
Yes, exactly
They were Raccoon Coats - very big in the 20s! I like old movies, and when I was a kid in the 50s, I saw old movies meant to take place in the 20s - and that’s where I first saw these coats! 🧥
Don't lie Rick your grandfather stole it and gave it to you! It's in your closet!
😆
❤❤❤f❤❤
I loved the eye exam episode too, so yeah remember that coat of course. I didn’t care for any of Lucy’s later shows so probably never saw the Rudy Valle one.
Is the fur hat part of the costume or was that a William Frawley add in?
Seen both episodes, but never made the correlation. Great find!
👍👍
Hmm… the collar and cuffs look different. Also the length as William Frawley was a different height than Rudy Vallee
Cuffs are the same. After 20 years a simple alteration can be made to make it shorter. It can take a few minutes. Plus the material, coloring, even material look 100 percent the same
Rick do you like Honeymooners ? If so ,Does Lucy’s dance trainer in this episode remind you of the Honeymooners classic 39 episode where Judy (girl from upstairs) was waiting on new boyfriend and asked Alice if she could meet him in the Kramdens apartment because she was scared her father would not approve ? The boyfriend acted almost identical to Lucy’s trainer.
Yes I have a honeymooners playlist. Here it is. And yes, I will be adding more czcams.com/play/PLuqWY02VeXi07OK_KZxMIc9DctK-6G2Y0.html&si=jNMRf5PrcleEWsTR
😊
Hey Rick you said that you were going to translate what Ricky Ricardo/Desi arnaz says..... can you please do that. Because the only words I recognized are in the Grace Foster episode
For which episode would you like a translation?
Why did I just an announcement 19 minutes ago saying that this was uploaded when it actually went up a couple days ago?
Really? It was a notification that you got?

Rick. For the longest time, I thought the coat ended up on Captain Kangaroo because King Cat Walsh called Fred the Dancing Bear when he entered the scene. 😉
