  • Before I kick off my next project (Traxxas 4tec), there are some things I want to test. One being weather water breaking in a brushed motor really makes a difference and if it does….. How much difference?

    Any possibility that you might make a video on motor break-in, water vs dry, type of batteries used, speeds used for break-in ETC ETC.
    A 2mph difference can make a big difference in SPEC racing

    I've been with you since the beginning. what's the beginning? you don't say um anymore. it's gonna be fun watching your channel grow, and it will continue bigtime dude. intelligent fun content, thank you for sharing. i always wondered how much the break in made, but no one had the balls to actually test it. was interesting

    Does the speed margin increase or decrease between with break in of higher turn motors like 23t or 27t?

    You might have explained what is a water broken motor and how it is done. I've watched this video and enjoyed it but I still don't know what that actually means or how it's done

    I like brushed motors better I think. It seems to feel more scale to me. I like scale realism

      Me too! Slap a 10t 550 or a 13t 540 and she's basically brushless power, not to me too. Many touring cars can handle 3s on the stock setup like the tamiya tt-01/2 kits, good ol' tough tamiya electronics handle 3s all day long. Feels like brushless for cheap!

    Back in the day we would buy a bunch of the same motors and Dyno them because the timing and other things would be a little different between them even though they were supposedly the same. To get real world test results you would have to go through more than 2 motors say like 5 broken in and 5 not.

  • @losipoop
    @losipoop Před 6 lety +1

    acceleration could be measured by camera frames/distance traveled, shortly after takeoff. stand back like 30' and have visual distance markers. sort it out in your video editing software (which i'm guessing you have access to)

  • @nepoleon9705
    @nepoleon9705 Před 5 lety

    Would have been interesting if you would have just had one motor where you run it or just let it spin out of the water and see what the speed result was on that one. The new motor could have been broken in by just driving the car around at low speeds, or just outside the vehicle running for 20 minutes. Perhaps the speeds would match up?

    Since the 80s.. water break in has been to ARC the brushes into the comm without causing sparks that scar
    the brushes and leave weld spatter on the comm.. NOT for more power.. ever.. just to properly break it in.

  • @shy1lrey880
    @shy1lrey880 Před 3 lety +2

    Water break in is an old trick I've used back in the 80s, its work well for me back then.👌

    Or if you have the discipline you can do it the fun easy way and just drive the car really slow for the first two pack cycles. BTW, IF you can keep heat down, you can insanely over voltage DC motors at the cost of a shorter life. The insulation on the wire windings can easily take 600V. You do have to watch the RPM due to balance, brushes, bearings and lubrication.

    Break in by submerging a motor running in water. Principle just like cleaning up a motor thoroughly

    I have a collection of vintage Nikkos. I'm looking to replace the motors in my Turbo Aero and Turbo Cosmos. I found suitable replacements. I'm wondering, should I break those 280s in for power, or just run them as they are for the sake of longevity?

  • @RobertNES816
    @RobertNES816 Před 5 lety +2

    If you let that new motor run through two batteries with you gradually getting to full speed and not applying the brake at all you'll break in that motor properly. Traxxas recommends gradual acceleration to full speed and letting the car coast instead of braking.
    I prefer the dry method as it doesn't cause so much brush wear. After the second battery or about a quarter the way through the second battery the motor will have a sudden change in acceleration and top speed. After the second run flush the commutator out with plastic safe contact cleaner and oil the bushings.
