About us: We're Jon & Emilie, a husband and wife living in West-Wales with our dog Maggie. It's always been our goal to live within our means and be mortgage free, so we’ve just sold our house on Instagram and used all of our life savings to buy a 3 acre abandoned caravan park, so we can self build a tiny home.
In todays video we share our first update in 2 months! We talk about what life's been like surviving winter in our tiny caravan on our land and get to work breaking down another abandoned caravan, ready to start our tiny house build.
Special thanks to EcoFlow, who kindly *Gifted us the new RIVER 2, Portable Power Station, which we used in this video.
The EcoFlow RIVER 2 is the best portable power station under 1kwh. It is a perfect solution for outdoor, travel or having as a basic assurance for home back up, click the link below to shop the new RIVER 2:

Old lady here who enjoys seeing a young couple making their own way. You are working hard and building wonderful memories to recall over the years. All the best to you both and much success!
Just a piece of advice. Don't wait so long to make a video. Let people know what your doing even if it's a small video. That way you don't lose your subscribers. Use that styrofoam to put around your tub and then cut some more boards to put around that to look better. Will help hold in that heat. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Phyllis, we've been busy spending our time trying to make money, online sales on the platforms we sell on we're down 70% across the board and our usual money we make over the xmas period was almost non existent online, this meant us physically going to christmas markets all over the place to try and sell our goods in person which was more time consuming. We will be posting more regularly now as we actually have updates worth sharing, didn't feel the need to make a video to say we were busy working but i understand your logic in regards to losing subscribers. We're mainly doing youtube as a means to document what we are doing so we can look back on it in years to come see what we've achieved, if people enjoy it and want to subscribe and stick around that's great but that's not our main focus. Thanks for your comment 😀 PS: Great idea with the insulation.
You do what you feel is right for you I follow lots of CZcamsrs if life gets hard do what you have to do never worry about your subscribers once we get notification that you’re up and running have no fear we will be because we are so nosey … you’re doing an amazing job ❤
This outdated advise the more as long as you produce quality videos then don't worry about taking breaks.

Yay, they’re back! It’s weird to miss someone you’ve never met in your life, but I so hope that these two succeed with this gorgeous project that I felt a bit nervous not hearing from them for weeks. Looking forward to everything that’s coming! Yay, again!
Thanks Lo, we are glad to be back at it, it's been hard doing our jobs knowing all the work is just there each day but not having the time available to tackle it. More video's soon, thanks for your patience.

I do not envy how cold you must be! Continue smashing it guys 💕 PS. Love your dungarees Emilie!!
Thanks guys! We loved watching your first video this week, can't wait to watch it unfold! Oh I got the dungarees off eBay, they are just a men's workwear brand! (The mens ones were so much cheaper than the women 🤣) I'll send you the link on Instagram) but they are so handy, as we can't fit many clothes in the caravan, I know have some dedicated workwear 😅 xxx

I don't mind waiting for videos. I check my list of subscriptions every couple of months and just continue watching.
I actually prefer these kind of realistic projects where people have to earn money to finance their dream without all the hype and pressure you see with some you tubers 'having' to produce a video. I'm glad you're not financially dependent on you tube and I ❤️ the way you work, explain and film.
Thanks Marianne, that's nice to hear 😊

You are such hard grafters, and brave, so brave to tackle this project. I am in awe.
I can't imagine how you will be able to get rid of all the debris that comes from these static caravans, but I am confident that you will.
Hats off to you. 🙂
Thanks Patricia, its either bravery or stupidity 🤣 we haven't decided on which one it is yet. We will get rid of the waste at our local recycling centre using our van, quite alot of sorting and loading but it's the cheapest way for us to do it.

Change your reciprocating saw to a wood blade (wide teeth) and it’ll cut through that wood ‘like butter’❤️✨
Ah it's great to see you guys back again! Always so impressed with how careful you are in your demolition/deconstruction
Thanks, we just know if we smashed everything down or set fire to it like some people suggest it would probably be even more work in the longterm trying to sort out the different materials. As we are taking the materials to our local council recycling centre they require all the different waste separated so it saves us time sorting it in the first place 😀

Y'all are two of the hardest working people I have ever seen. Wow!
Just subscribed and I'm watching your videos as I write this comment. You both are doing a really good job and working very hard. I bet that place was an eyesore to a lot of people in your community. It's so nice to see young people cleaning up these areas and making it their home. Great job! Can't wait to watch all the videos.
Stay safe
God Bless🙏🏻
Thanks so much Susan 😊 yes the people in the local village have been so supportive, they are so pleased it's being cleaned up xx
We have been binge watching you all day, hubby and I. We are new subscribers and have enjoyed our day thoroughly! We watched several out of sequence but we are all straightened out with your wonderful plans! Maggie is so special and I think you look adorable in all of your hats!
inspirational motivated hard working couple
As a Park Home caravan resident here in the Cotswolds on the banks of the River Avon, I can fully appreciate what it's like with frozen water.
It was five days last month with no water, no showers, etc because or -9 to -10 !!
Buying litres and litres of still water from the supermarket to keep going.
Even with proper double external lagging, pipes still froze, only other option is trace heating which for the limited times this happens, it's not really worth installing.
Thankfully the gas central heating inside kept me warm along with a ceramic fan heater.
Roll on the spring !! 👍
Thanks for the reply Richard, i've looked into trace wiring as something for the future caravan build, i've seen the youtube couple "Van Wives" using it on their pluming for the winter in their cabin in Novascotia, I've been thinking about also building a tube/box from 100mm + pir insulation like celotex or kingspan to go from the water in the ground from about a foot underground all the way up to the bottom of the caravan floor and filling with more insulation. Our water pipe currently is only about two foot an i've also double lagged it and made a sleeve to go over the top of it from reflectics/foil bubble wrap and even with that the tap froze rock solid. Glad to hear you've managed to keep warm, any idea how much you've spent on gas per month to keep warm?
Two 47kg LPG bottles are what we use, sited in a metal container with an automatic valve to switch over from one to the other. In the cold months of Dec, Jan, Feb, I would say at least one bottle a month costing £74 delivered, that also included the gas cooker, hot water and central heating.
It's balanced by the warm months were one bottle can last 2-3 months.
@@CampOutWest check out Tyler and Todd also in Nova Scotia off grid
@@haw_n_thorne thanks for the tip! We will check them out
@@richardthomson203 Thanks for the breakdown Richard, that's not to bad at all!

yay! we LOVE Maggie!
Until you have broken a caravan down you don't appreciate the effort involved never mind all the waste you get and maybe upgrade the grinder to a 9" more power and can cut deeper and easier.
My dad (Jon here) has just given me an old black and decker grinder made in italy from the 90's to use that was my great uncles, going to give that a go, feel alot heavier and more sturdy. I've looked at the 9 inch grinders and like that they have much more powerful motors so shouldn't get bogged down so much, do you think they also work alright with smaller disks? Just for future jobs i've got quite a few flap disks and grinding disks and wondered do they work on the bigger tools.
@@CampOutWest Personally I use both on the 9" depending what discs I have at the time but I also remove the guard which people won't like it just means you can get into smaller spaces and can use a little more of the disc but again that is down to personal preference like I say plenty of people will say to leave the guard on
@@CampOutWest are you using cutting discs or grinding discs? The cutting discs are usually a lot thinner.
@@vespavbb5838 We are using cutting discs :)
@@CampOutWest oh dear :-) looks like it may take some time to work through the other caravans. Love that you are trying to recycle so much, keep moving forwards all three of you are doing a great job.

Love hearing Maggie sing! 😊❤🎶🎵
You should be able to recycle the aluminum and get some $ for it as well, also all the wiring from the campers.
Cheers Jim, yes we are taking the Alu tomorrow in the van to be weighed in, i think it's £0.70p a kilo at the moment, no idea how much weight we have, we've got a copper tanks, pipes and the wiring to take aswell then i think we'll try and get a grab lorry to come and get the steel and general scrap
💕ITS FREE grown on your own land💕Willow branches & twiggy parts are brilliant for weaving fences out of💕Put in your uprights every 3’ then weave the branches through it💕

i had a caravan for many years and i never slept better than when it rained the noise just sent me to the land of nod
Brrrrrrr. Great to see you back. Please please don’t let Maggie have branches/sticks or any wooden items, my dad lost a German shepherd as he chewed the branch, a tiny piece got wedged in his throat, he didn’t eat for a couple of days, a trip to the vets etc revealed a nasty infection that had spread just that short time too which sadly took his life 😢😢
Thanks for the tip Crissy! Maggie is our dream girl, so we wouldn't want that to happen to her 😢
Whack a bit of copper pipe into the willow tree, that’ll do the trick!,
🤣
I can see you two are going to be millionaires in the not too distant future you both have what it takes well done and I love Wales happy days.
ah good, you survived then. I was wondering.
Bob Flowerdew used to use old tyres in piles of 4 or 5 high to grow potatoes.
Lots of bad chemicals in tyres
i might keep the wheels to make some sort of cart for wheeling things around on the land, not quite sure yet.
Pembrey Park is one of the UKs hidden treasures, it’s such a beautiful place, you’re so lucky to live so close. We used to go camping there as kids, I loved to swim in the ponds as well as the sea… ah happy times.
We feel SO lucky to leave here, we love it so much! Jon's been coming since he was a little boy!
I live in Covina just outside Los Angeles. I no longer work that hard! I am retired! My wife and I were watching. We have rebuilt three trashed homes and Wow! It takes a-lot out of you physically! You have youth on your side!
Love what you are doing here. I just finished watching your whole series. That’s a lot to take on ! 😀 Please consider wearing ear protection when using the power tools , I ruined my hearing by not doing so. It’s no fun dealing with hearing loss. 👍 Eric.
Thanks for the tip Eric, hadn't thought about ear protection, but that's a great suggestion 🙂
Have you checked out he tiny house Kris Harbor built from sand bags?
His Chanel is called “ Kris Harbor Natural Building”
He lives in Wales as well.
He fitted a wood burning oven, connected a copper pipe to it and a boiler to heat water for the shower.
Excellent, that was really good. You got a lot done in this video. It makes me even more eager to visit, that is when you are ready for visitors. 👍👍👍👍👍
Yes we've been getting as much into the days as we can as its dark by 5pm, look forward to having visitors and getting to have a sit down and a chat 😀
Wet n Windy Wales! I find the thrum of rain on the caravan roof quite soothing it sends me right off to sleep but no good if you're wanting to hear anything else but quite good if you're wanting to disguise other noises! 😉😉Thanks for the video. Good luck!
It's good to see you back. I'll be watching your progress with interest.
Thanks Martyn
Fab to see you back. Glad to see you cracking on. Can't wait for future projects. xx

What a daunting task but you pushed through. Keep on, keeping on!
Thanks Judy, we as ourselves most days what have we done, then we think how good it will be in the future and it's all good 😂
I think your doing an amazing job I know how you feel living in a caravan in minus degrees. I can wait to see more progress, remember that end goal. It will be amazing.
The end goal is what keeps us motivated 🙌
They have a secret ingredient.
They both have a passion to live amidst nature and above all stick by and work towards a unified decesion. The doggy is the icing on the cake.
To sum it up,a perfect life !
Good to see you again. Can't wait to see what you get onto next!
Thanks Suze :)
Beautiful day for a walk on the beach.
After you've cut the scrub and trees down to the ground , paint straight glyphosate onto the exposed ends and it'll kill them off .
If you have a lot of stumps you can put some food colouring into the glyphosate so you can see where you've been.
Using glyphosate this way is best way as it's used directly and not used indiscriminately.
Get a Makita grinder it's not worth buying cheap one's, use the scrap money for one.
Thanks so much for the type Hammy. Will look into the Makita grinder too :)
Re rain on your caravan roof - try hanging a tarpaulin over a stretched line over the top of your caravan...like a ittle tent - should help
Thanks so much for the tip Joe :)
Sleeping an RV in the rain is awesome
We like it but not hail stones at 3am haha
Welcome back!!! So glad you made it through the (hopefully) worst of the winter weather. Another fab video - well done with knocking down the caravan. Crazy to see how minimal the framing is 😮 looking forward to seeing all the progress ❤
Thanks Sam, yeah its crazy how strong they actually are considering the timber is tin in them, Reassures us that ours is going to be solid as we will be building with 2x4 timbers lite traditional timber framing.
I’ve got lots of willow here as well. A good method to kill them off and avoid new sprouts also from the roots has been brine from pickled herring - eg. salt and vinegar solution - in a drilled hole in the stump. Nothing spectacular and dangerous for nature around
Sounds like a good idea, maybe we'll try a few different option on the different stumps and see what works the best and report back.
Glad to see you back! Perhaps you could get a secondhand awning for the caravan, then you could use it as a boot room to save you going inside with all you wet clothes on..
Thanks Ian! Actually the caravan came with an awning when we bought it second hand off Facebook - we haven't tried it yet as it gets pretty windy here but I think it's worth a shot! Thanks for reminding us 👍😊
Glad to see your starting to get back to enjoy your projects
Thanks CB - so happy to be back and have time to focus on it for the next few months 🥰
So happy to see you back 👏

oh thanks so much for the suggestion! We will look into that 🙂
Good evening from New Zealand.
I was suggested your video that you did 9 days ago
by YT as it came up in my suggested viewing.
I watched that, and thought this is the type of new
channel to my repertoire that am sub'd to that I may
enjoy. So this evening I have gone back to the beginning
am now am binge watching all your videos to date, with the
mind to catch up to where you are at today.
I wasn't going to actually comment until I reached the end that
I hadn't seen.
However, as I'm watching this one, and you describe how it
is very loud in the caravan in a hail storm or heavy rainfall.
I thought to make a suggestion, I hope that you don't mind.
> With all those excess building materials that you have,
aluminum siding, 4x2's and the like.
My suggestion to you would be to make a Carport type
cover over your caravan. This would not only reduce the noise
of the heavy rain on your caravan roof, but it would also
give a level of some insulation both in Winter and Summer.
No Ice on the roof in winter - lowing the heating/gas/diesel
requirements over the cooler months, and likewise will
reduce the direct heat from the hot summer sun on the
roof over the warmer months. You could also even,
add your shower under that roof, near the rear of the caravan
and closer to the home you're currently living in within your
caravan until you have built your tiny home.
This is just something I know from experience when in the past
living in a caravan myself as temporary digs.
It proved to be quite a good idea.
I hope that idea may help you going forward.
You have yourselves a new subscriber.
I like what you are doing, have done similar myself with a
rough piece of land and developing it in my younger yrs.
Living as you are is a lifestyle many would enjoy.
All the best going forward, I'll watch with intrigue as you
develop your land. Cheers from NZ 🇳🇿 😎 Mike.
I’d love it if you numbered your videos so I could watch them in sequence. It’s so interesting, I’m totally enjoying them.
Thanks Pat, great idea!
It's good to see you both back and Maggie of course, your making good progress, it will feel great when you get to place your new chassis down and start building.

Thanks for your great movies. I admire your passion for improving the land you have, good luck with the projects and I will look forward for the next movie.
Well done I see where you are changing everything now as I am going through the videos great videos thanks.
Right at the end whilst you were both talking to us, a tiny little Robin hopped across and stopped right in between you two and had a look at the camera and face bombed 😊. I stumbled on this collection of videos, watched quite a few, well done on all your hard work..! interested if there is any footage showing what happened to the cars that were left behind..? Looking forward to see the next episode…😊
Perhaps a scrap metal man could come to you. Might not get much for it but would save you cutting it up so small and you wouldn’t have to take it away yourself.. probably be better if you waited until you had all metal waste ready instead of one chassis at a time. Nice vid. Thanks for sharing.
We are going to take the aluminium and copper ourselves as these are the high value metals, the chassis and our pile of random metal items we will have collected as one of the scrap.firms around us has a grab lorry to collect in bulk
Reciprocating saw is the way to go , this was my go to tool taking down old sheds so much easier and loving your videos
Thanks so much Rob 🙂
Glad to see you back. Love to Maggie. She's beautiful. Hope your weather warms some. Maybe the next rain you could just go outside and have a heavenly shower. 😆
Thanks Valerie 🥰 Maggie is our absolute dream girl! I'll let you know how the heavenly shower goes haha!
I would have been more diplomatic in choping up the chassis. Some of that metal would have been very useful in constructing buildings.
We have no use for the metal sadly, as we are building within the park home regulations (and this chassis is no longer up to code for the new regulations we have to follow) but it will all be recycled next week at our local weigh bridge 🎉

Great progress made over the few days back - Emily you rock with the hazmat suit lol. 😂. Hope john’s back recovers. We are close to Pembrey Country park in Wales :)
Just found you guys, great to see what you are doing. Following with interest as we live in South Wales and would love to do something similar one day.
Great job on taking the static caravan down, but i think you could reuse that steel structure, it looked like surface rust, you can sand blast and repaint, it really did not look that bad??? The best way to test would be with a hammer, if it goes through the rust it's rotten and not worth salvaging....
Thanks for watching! We have no use for the old chassis's sadly, we even tried giving them away for free but no one wanted them, so we are weighing them in for money to be recycled so the material isn't being wasted - they also aren't to code for the building regulations we have to follow for our tiny home, as the caravans are so old, the regulations have been updated since these were made, so can't be used on our land. We have no use for the steel structure and don't want to store things in the land that we can't see us using in the future, so scraping then made the most sense to us 🙂
Absolutely incredible ❤❤ well done guys. Can’t wait to watch more progress. It will be totally worth it for the end product xxx
