Welcome back to another Liveration episode!
In this video we speak to Paul, who lives in North Devon with his family, in a stunning, self built, Off Grid home.
This amazing, modern looking, Off Grid home sits on 15 acres of land, along with a barn and native woodland.
Paul has built a lifestyle here that is fully off grid, his power comes from the sun, his heat comes from a fire using the trees that he fells from his own land, and water comes from collecting and filtering rain water, and drinking water comes from a spring out of the ground.
He also raises his own animals and grows fruit trees!
Paul stares his story with us, of how he came to living this way from a small 'chicken coop' of a house and barely affording the monthly bills.
We also get a full tour of his land and a tour of the outside and the inside of his house.
This house comes with all you'd imagine from a so-called 'normal' house.
How does Paul and his family make this lifestyle work?....find out in the video!!
Thanks to Paul for sharing his story with us and showing us around his off grid home and land.

What a crazy world we live in. Can't afford to live in concrete jungles, all crammed into street after street, and all while all the big suppliers charge a fortune and make massive profit year by year. Most people will never do it because they've been brainwashed to believe they have to have insurance on everything and "healthcare". In the U.S., that is what keeps people trapped in the system and willing to risk their lives to keep their jobs when the mandates happened. Few have the mindset to trust Our Creator for all we need and not worry about man-made systems of control. They think they're buying safety and giving up their freedom.

I agree with your statement about how everything comes from "the hill", and you end up never wanting to leave it. We have firewood, clean spring and rain water, some of the cleanest air on the planet, and solar we have set up ourselves very cheaply. The animals and gardens provide nearly all of our clean and healthy food. We never want to leave. We still socialize all we want, and maintain all the privacy as well. Friends and family don't all "get it", until they visit for a few days. You just have to be handy and willing to make the effort.

Changing the water filters can be a challenge during the winter. It's best to plant fruit/ nut trees as soon as you can. Don't plant one type of tree I have apples cherries, plums, walnut and sweet chestnut. I think it is better to get a range that can burn wood for heat and cook food. The grey water can water the trees. My poly tunnel provides me with the more exotic foods.

We bought our 11 acres originally thinking we would connect to the grid. After living in a shed for 2 years and living with a very basic solar system the thought was… we can do this! The thought was cemented when we got a quote to connect to the grid was $50,000. More than being in solar power. It’s a no brainer really.

I believe he’s gone down the route of replacing a caravan. He said the guy before him lived on site in a caravan, if he did that for ten years, you can get a lawful development certificate, people then leverage that to replace the caravan with a house. A caravan can be replaced with a caravan of any size up to 20m x 6.8m so it’s saying to the council, I can legally do that, what’s worse a massive caravan here or a home that is smaller and blends with the natural environment. The council will regularly pick the latter

We’re made to struggle a bit, but by working the land and caring for our families-not by working for some company making someone else richer than we could ever dream. We need opportunities to breathe, to make connections, to build/create. We need to feel free again.

Really enjoyed this - what a fabulous set up ❤
But I wish we found out how he got planning permission, because sadly thats the part that stops this dream becoming a reality for most of us.

@Bluebell 117 He mentioned that ge grew up in the country with his parents and when he learned this property was for sale from his Mum he bought it. He further said that when he bought his land he learned that his Great Grandfather owned the Land next to his ! I am sure the Permission people already knew he and his ancestors were long time residents in this area.

Ich finde das Haus cool mit dem "off grid".

Love this, the guys cracked it! We finally afforded to buy a house after years of renting & saving last year. felt really pressured as we are in mid 30's with 2 children not sure why but i really feel so deflated with the whole getting on the property ladder now and the thought of being well into our 60s by the time its payed is just quite depressing! Been watching alot of videos latley on alternative living and im hoping this is our future route 🤞🏼
    Ps - love the video's 👌🏼

WOW this really spoke to me. What a lifestyle for the family so close to and integrated with land and Nature.

How refreshing to hear someone acknowledge the almost ''pagan'' lifestyle that creeps up onto folk who leave the urban madness and as they shed the layers of control they revert back to living as one with nature as much as possible. The pragmatic yet caring way he approaches the killing of deer etc is something no one usually speaks about when it comes to living off grid.
