We met up with Kevin, who is living an alternative lifestyle, off grid in a 'Hut in the woods'.
He begins by introducing how he's lived an alternative life for about 16 to 17 years, spending 13 of those years living in a van, before purchasing the land he currently resides on. His philosophy is to live simply, which importantly gives him more freedom, time in nature, and time to enjoy life.
He describes his hut as not luxurious but practical, built by himself with basic technology, yet providing warmth, shelter, and sustenance, all at a low cost. His land features various elements: a guest wing, fruit trees, raised beds for vegetables, a polytunnel for year-round produce, and a renewable energy system such as a solar system, and plans to introduce Hydro-electric.
The documentary showcases his self-sufficiency efforts, from growing food to preserving it for the winter. He emphasizes learning from nature, identifying various plants for food and medicinal purposes. Kevin also highlights the community aspect, interaction with locals, and the joy of rural living.
His off-grid lifestyle requires resourcefulness, where he repurposes materials for construction and utilities. He demonstrates his homemade long-drop toilet, outdoor bathing setup, laundry methods, and kitchen amenities, including a log burner he uses for cooking. That's so very true and why they won't allow us to live on the land unless we have millions to pay for the privilege!

Not only is Kevin living, he's given his beautiful dogs the best life also.
My girl's are rescues. I rescued the big one in june 2020 as she was rearing 11 pups on her own. All the pup's got homes and then in September of 2022 i took on the little one who needed rehoming. How could i refuse her the chance to be back with her mum who she hadn't seen for over 2 year's

The governments worst nightmare. Living simply and sufficiently off the land. Not wanting for much and growing your own food and being sustainable.
This is how we should all live. Shame the government make it so hard to live like this.
Kevin is an absolute legend… We spent some time with him in Norway whilst on travels in our campervan. You could not want to meet a more genuine, beautiful soul.
Living his best life. He’s created it himself. Keeps him busy but content. Admirable. Decent honest happy. And looks like he’s got a lot more years of joy ahead. Great little window into another world.

I've got nothing but admiration for this man, I think he's brave and influencing. I can quite easily see myself living the same lifestyle. I'm envious of what he has achieved, if more people were like him, the world would be a better place.
As a f/t gardener, I have grown my own tobacco and once cured is amazing to smoke.
No chemicals and you will lose the cough from tailor made cigs.
Each plant produces millions of tiny ( teeny weeny) seeds so is self sustainable.
My dog is my rock, buddy and the bond we have is unbreakable.
Although I'm married and have a 11 year old son at home, the countryside is where my heart is at. This guy is living my dream 👌👍

Enforcement tried to bully us into moving off of our land. There's always a workaround. What an adventure for my kids and animals. Wouldn't change it. The freeist feeling you'll ever feel within the invisible prison walls. If you get a chance, do it, don't just talk about it.

I always tell my children, we were meant to live off the land, which is working for ourselves, not stressing out over making money for someone else to get rich. and ... p.s I do have somehwere in wales by the sea that i goi to in the summer time only. I am in my 70th year and have been diagnosed with 4th stage cancer. however I feel that owning a simple connection to ourselves through the natural world is just about the best medicine there is. The turkey tails growing with you are absolute medicine that i need!! All the very very best to you in endeavouring and doing what others cannot and for succeeding in living successfully outside this ridiculously off-beam system

What a wonderfully rich life Kevin leads. He really does have it all (almost....I am sure a good woman is on her way to him). That aside, the planning laws and redistribution of land must be changed and implimented in the UK. Land ownership is out of reach for most people and corporate/historical titled and family possession is not fit for the 21st century. Many young and older people want to live in different ways and without access to European cheap land since Brexit, UK soil needs to be redistributed much more fairly and openly. Being free to build your own dwelling without all of the restrictions and planning barriers also needs to be rethought. Is there a movement in the UK to support/advocate for these changes?

Hi Sarah, I just read your comment I’m working on a program with a partner to show people how to do this, but effectively you can start off with a minimum of 12.5 acres (5 ha) and you will be able to get the ball rolling if you have a mind to set up a small holding. there’s more to it than just that, but that is the starting point. We are 2/3 of the way through proving our system and will set up a youtube channel and podcast soon. Keep going you WILL Achieve your dreams 😊😊😊😊😊

He has a nice little set-up. I like his attitude to life in general and I can identify with nbot knowing (or caring ) what day of the week it is and the fact that it is either daylight or night-time. Living on the edge of a Latvian national forest in my wooden wheeled waggon (aka my bed on wheels) I can testify to the peace that nature brings, and being a Brit I wonder if this lifestyle is possible back in teh UK these days.
