Are shed kits any good? This was a question I wondered for years so I decided to finally bite the bullet and build one from Home Depot. This kit will save you a ton of time but I also made several modifications along the way that I think led to a better shed. Let me know what you think and if you are going to build from scratch or use a shed kit like this one.

Very impressive how quickly you assembled this! I'm the type of guy to buy the kit, unload it, dig a few holes then watch CZcams for hours till bed time and the shed kit would be in the yard for a few months.
Hahaha, same here!
Haha I like to think that I’m not like that, but I am 😂 Always try to be better though.
And I would see the kit and be mad that it is not up.
I built a shed 27 or 28 years ago using a shed kit for Home Depot. You had to build your own floor and everything went together fine except one of the back panels which wasn’t cut correctly. I had to modify it. That shed is still standing. I built new doors for it last year. Not a bad kit. My suggestion for a shed is imagine what your storage needs will be in 15-20 years and build that if you can afford it.
Wow $2,000 not including all of the extra costs and you have to build yourself. I hired a guy locally to build a shed for me just like this with foundation and standard 16" on center studs for $2,500. Definitely worth it!
This shed seems like a perfect product to install a solar attic fan on - would really pull a lot of the hot air out fairly continuously. Great vid.
I have also been always curious about those kits. Seems like it’s not a bad deal. Especially if you don’t have much experience building. Great comprehensive video!
Shed building videos look so easy when you're watching someone else on fast forward.
Nice build!
💯
Scott, you did a really good job at explaining how to build this shed and it turned out great!
I am a bigger fan of hexhead screws, too, so well done on that recommendation!
Well done, Scott!
You’re the man, this is a great tutorial. I’ve been going back and forth on pre built vs kit and I still don’t know what to do lol

Check around with local builders. I found a local shed builder in my area that built one for me the exact same size as this for the same cost of materials alone for this overpriced kit and the necessary extras like fasteners.
Kit.. then beef it up
I'd like to see 25 additional contractors do this shed and see what their modifications would be.
Excellent tutorial! This video was a huge help - thanks for posting!
Watching you do this makes me feel like I can do this. Great video editing, commentary, etc.
You got this!
Nice project! You are the best teacher/demonstrator going. Clear explanaions.
Thanks so much for the feedback 🙌
Nice video, very informative. Looking at a shed project for next year, and weighing the value of kits versus complete build. While not a fan of kits, I am seriously considering them. You have helped a lot. Still going through a lot of your content, well done channel!
Very nice shed and assembly was clearly explained. Thank you!
Thanks so much!
These videos and projects are always well thought out and executed. Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much 👍
To prevent ground moisture from seeping up, I would use a gallon of asphalt sealer [tar] on the bottom of the floor.
It makes a huge difference in numerous ways.
should just be elevated from the ground and leave for bottom open so air can flow. I did that with my shed built about 8 years ago and it's always been dry and looks like the day it was built.
Shed prices have shot up. Used to be able to get a lot more for $2k but I guess those days are gone.
Agreed!
Thanks to Biden Omics.
The cost of energy.
Ie.
Fuel.
Seriously. That creates cost for everyone
Exterior stain semitransparent or solid color will do hold better then paint. Now paint is better formulated and can paint outdoor from plus 2 Celsius. I never seen felt 30 always use double 15 for start or other sheeting design for start on cold/ freezing zone. Well done explanation
Another great video. Thanks!
Great job!
Thank you 😊
Scott,
Excellent video help
Thanks so much!
I might have considered a concrete slab rather than blocks. One thing the Midwest is notable for are tornadoes. And they seem to be more powerful. They even brought down The Amazon. But would it hold up to a stiff wind ? That's the thing I would constantly be on edge about. I am very paranoid about my stuff. Not that it's valuable or worth anything, but it's just that it is my stuff. Anyway. Great video. You make it look so easy and effortless. I realize it's mostly through editing magic, but I bet if I tried, I'd end up with a pile of rubbish and the neighbors thinking I have Tourette's and should be institutionalized.
I’m a subcontractor installer for these kits. Yes, the front and back walls are flimsy until secured to the side walls. Your kit comes with eave trim to cover the 2x4 soffit. (Supposed to)
To your viewers, secure the rafters before your lofts. Reaching over shelving to toenail rafters is annoying.
All said, nice build.
Thanks for the feedback 🙌
Any anchorage for wind uplift? Various mobile home screw anchors with wire cable connections to structure available, as you know. Thinking of recent wind storms/tornadoes in N. Illinois recently.
Great detail info keep up the good work? What do you think of the Costco premade hard plastic ones they sell similar to this one you built? Would you recommend which one ?
Heh great job ! It is perfect !
What about vehicles insurance? How does that work with a home crafted camper like yours ?
Hi Scott, how do you secure the 4x4's to the concrete blocks?
Scott, can the shed be moved to another location after it has been built? I mean assembled, on a platform.
Subscribed to your other, Everyday Shed channel, the sloped shed foundation video is super helpful!
About how much do you save using concrete blocks vs a poured foundation?
Is there not some trim piece that goes over the three boards above the windows? If not, I'm surprised there's not some primed or painted sections in the kit for that, given that everything else that's exposed is primed (or painted, not sure what the finish is).
Great video 4 me.
"Now, this part is a two person operation...."
**Proceeds to build it by himself***
For thee greenies
Well done. Very impressive. So with paint and probably a ramp this would be about $3000. I think it is fair. Thank you for sharing
Yep, right at $3,000 to finish it up.
Had a guy build one for me this same size for $2,500. Better quality too. These kits are overpriced.
@@johndoe6032 that is a heck of a price for hiring it out. Thanks for the feedback. Did you have any type of foundation under the shed?
I think it would be worth it to buy one of these kits just for the pre-cut pieces, then do additional framing for more support. The ones my wife and I have been looking into are composite materials because we have bugs here that love to eat wood. The termites and carpenter bees alone makes composite worth the extra money. However, adding additional framing would cost significantly more per board.
They overcharge for the materials, and oftentimes you get really bad stuff; massively bowed 2x4's, beat up sheet panels, etc. You'll end up running back and forth to the store and fighting them to make it right.
Just hire someone to build one for you. It really doesn't cost much more if you shop around because builders can get the materials a lot cheaper and it's saves you a lot of time and headache. In my case it cost almost the exact same to have someone build mine as it would have been to build myself with one of these kits, and they used better materials and building standards, 2x6 boards for the floor, 16" on center framing, etc.
Scott, this was a fun video to watch. One thing to check when building a shed is what the building code requirements are for your area. My county stipulates that all materials of a shed have to match your house-- siding, roofing, trim, colors, style, and even roof pitch. Well, from what I can tell in my area, those codes are routinely ignored. :-) So you may be okay regardless.
Sounds like a nightmare. Time to move
@@KitchenFamilyFarm Funny, but a decade before I found the requirements in the building code for my county, I had built my shed. I wanted to build it so that it matched my house, mostly for aethetics. So I used the same siding, roofing matierials and colors as my house. I even matched the shed's roof pitch with my house's.
Codes are for structural.
Your talking HOAs.
What do you listen to while ur working?
Nice shed and notes! Unfortunately, this shed design is not suitable for Florida and not sold here.
Did you do a cost comparison of the kit vs the cost of the just buying materials like it looks like you did over on your Everyday Shed build?
Man, is that shed going to hold lawnmowers or nitroglycerin? Pretty thorough improvements my man 👍
I think 2700 is a lot. The plastic resin sheds sold at Costco and what not are a really nice option, assemble fast and the hard plastic holds up. Where these Home Depot sheds always start to rot somewhere.
How much do these cost versus building one the traditional way?
We will have the complete comparison breakdown over at our new channel in a couple weeks. youtube.com/@EverydayShed?si=GvYjImI3d0k-nQn2
Did you say there are plans or a kit that a person could purchase from you guys that would be beefier than the HD kit? I viewed the video posted 3/1/24 from the dude with accent and there are no links posted.
We are still working on the plans and material list. We should have these available in couple weeks. Thanks for watching!! 👍
Enjoyed the video, but from what I read in the negative reviews, I wouldn’t be interested in buying one. I’d rather buy my own materials and build from scratch
Would love to know what the cost of materials is when bought separately vs. Kit price.
We will have a direct comparison soon. We are building a custom build over on our new channel and will do a direct cost breakdown youtube.com/@EverydayShed?feature=shared
Dang, lumber isn't cheap. The steel and plastic ones at Menards are looking better now.
No these kits are just overpriced. I had a guy build me a shed this same size for the same price as this kit and necessary extras.
@@johndoe6032You’ve really spent a lot of that time you saved answering questions people aren’t asking.
He said, "You suckas will need another pair of hands." But not me. 😂
Why do you need to add liquid nails to the floor plywood? What happens if you just screw it in?
You don't have to and the liquid nails will just add some strength.
Screws always. There are few projects where nails are preferred.
I build these sheds for the manufacturer. I've built that exact shed many times. You can pay for installation, and they send a guy like me out to build it. It's kind of fun to see you put all that extra time and money into the cheapest sheds they sell. It would have been cheaper to just start off with a shed that's not a piece of crap to begin with. Way overkill gluong the floor down. It's not a large span and very low arqa. The floor won't be moving mich and the screws woild.l have been more than enough. Also, that plywood will start to throw splinters pretty quickly and osb woild.ahve been a much better choice with no flooring over top. All n all I think you wasted a ton of noney on upgrading a storage shed.
I get a message that says "unsupported clearbar version", so I can't download anything. Running Windows 11.
Hey Gene, thanks for the feedback. What browser (chrome, edge, other) are you using?
I don't see how the way you did your initial layout guaranteed the shed was aligned with, and square to, the garage you were working off of. It looks like you just tried to get close to aligned?
A shed with no floor ?
I would personally never assemble one of these as I would buy one completely assembled or have someone build it on my property.
Thanks for the feedback!
What pants ar you wearing, it looks like there is a pencil pock in the front?
Those are Truewerk T2 pants. Highly recommend. truewerk.com/products/t2-mens-workwear-pants?variant=32071496007722&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAloavBhBOEiwAbtAJO9J-m_wVxMVhF1EPSZIdbu9IpI5jz9QEEi0EmjQeE4uvcBXiXeQYbRoCweEQAvD_BwE
Thanks!!@@EverydayHomeRepairs
nice job dude. Come to my house and build one and I will let you video it too...:)
Whenever you buy ANYTHING manufactured, most of what it cost goes towards the labor it takes to assemble it.
UNFORTUNATELY, material prices have gone up so much these days that sometimes you cant even DIY to save
a few $$. These manufacturer are buying their materials in wholesale lots for way way way way less than we
have to pay at the retail suppliers. So sometimes you might as well buy the mfg'd one and be better off. A lot of
times it will be better built.
!
,
Who the **** frames with **** screws?
Are you kidding me? That's way too much work! There's got to be an easier build.
Am your website a ridiculous number of fucking ads
Never buy these overpriced kits! They are absolute junk and the cheapest quality build!
You can most likely find someone local who will build one for you for about the same cost as these kits.
