- Renovating our abandoned caravan park | Building a tiny home & off grid homestead in Wales
About us: We're Jon & Emilie, a husband and wife living in West-Wales with our dog Maggie. It's always been our goal to live within our means and be mortgage free, so we’ve just sold our house and used all of our life savings to buy a 3 acre abandoned caravan park, so we can self build a tiny home.

I can't even imagine how physically and mentally overwhelming this is for you guys. But I'm sure when you see things going out to the recycling center and clearing the property, it is so rewarding . Wishing you health, prosperity, and happiness. (Xl)
Thanks so much Marie! It's the most satisfying feelings each time a van load goes from the land! So excited to see where we are this time next month 🙏

Good afternoon guys, just watch your latest episode you seem to be making really good progress
Must be really exciting every time you go to the scrapyard to see how much money you’re going to get. I would love one of your camp Outwest T-shirts I’m at triple XL keep the videos coming. Rob
Productive is right! Looking great!👍Sixes XL please. Thank you
Like the new video!! Nice to see the progress and your vision how it will look in the future. 😊 Size XL.
It's brilliant to see you back posting regularly. I would love to wear an XL T-shirt:) Keep up the good work.
Love the videos and the progress you are making with the site. Would love a Large top
Your hard work, dedication to recycling and consideration of your surroundings and neighbours are impressive and inspiring.I wish you all the luck in the world to achieve your dream.
Thank you so much Emma 🥰 we are so grateful for your support xxx
Totally Agree 💯
@@CampOutWest £300k if u sell to me ... cash sale... ginuene offer..
@@jdjustdrivewaysltdno.1348 we've had lots of offers but we aren't looking to sell as we sold our house for this and trying to find something similar is like gold dust 😅
Spot on.
I came across you guys and i cant believe how hard a working couple you are and hard living in a cold caravan over winter and doing without and trying to save money the hard way wishing you all the best for the future
Very excited that you are now uploading weekly, smashing it guys!
So nice to actually have time to focus on it 🥰 also so excited to watch your video tomorrow guys! Xxx
You guys should be so proud of yourselves.
That land is so beautiful.
You are two smart cookies. 💗
Oh you are too kind! Thank you ❤️
It's great to see you both bringing your property back to life. It must be a great wildlife habitat.
Thanks CMG! We have sadly seen little wildlife but Jon's borrowed his dad's wildlife camera which we are doing to set up next week. We do have lots of wild cats that like to wind up Maggie 😂😂 lots of nice birds that sing to us each morning (lots of friendly robin's) and every night we hear 2 owls in the neighbouring woodland deep in conversations each night. We want to build an owl box on our land to see if we can tempt them to move onto camp out west 😂
@@CampOutWest An owl box would be cool.
I so appreciate you recycling the old caravans! It creates so much waste to just demo a structure and not be recycling it. Excited to see how things progress!
You two are doing an amazing job. I will definitely be booking some accommodation with you when your all up and running. Your commitment to this project is so inspiring. We love that area of wales as well and it’s so nice to see you recycling and just taking things at a good pace. I really do applaud you both x
Thank you so much Katie! We cannot wait to start welcoming guests 🧡 thanks so much for the support x
A little bit of history of this site. The original shaft of this colliery was sunk by Thyssen. This site accommodated some of the workers that sunk the shaft. These workers were mostly of German origin. They had a social club across the road that had fantastic Christmas parties for the kids. Lots of these families integrated into the local community. Good luck with this project and feel free to ask if you want more info.
Cheers Steve, yes an amazing amount of history up here, always happy to hear new stories about the site and the village, my second cousin lives in the village and used to work at the club and said that hundreds of people would be up here on the weekends. Do you know anyone from the area that knows anymore history? Cheers.
What a productive week you had! At this stage of your renovation it’s really hard to imagine how nice it’s all going to be in the end. I so look forward to seeing your hard work and progress. You two are inspiring. Thank you for sharing. (Shirt size XL)
Thanks Karen! We can't wait to see where we are by the end of the month, it really feels like we're at a turning point and loving every second 🥰
I thought you were going to get a road grader in. Then there you go with hand tools and a barrow. Rock on!
Your close up of the vans show what difficult conditions the miners families lived in. How did they ever keep warm? Poor souls.
It would have been so cold for them! We were told by the locals that some used to live in metal shacks on our land with dirt floors and would wash in wood barrels that they'd have to smash/break the ice off in the mornings. They were hard core!
You guys are doing such an amazing job! Your determination to get this done is so inspiring, this is a huge project but it's definitely in the right hands!! Can't wait for the next installment! (XL) xxx
Thanks so much! We are loving every second 😊 next video dropping on the weekend xxx
Saw your video for the first time today, enjoyed your attention to recycling true recyclables. But, when I saw your name I laughed as I live in Texas, USA. Takes real courage and hard work to do what you are doing. I admire your work ethic.
Thanks Ada, yes we are in West Wales in the uk, definitely not the wild west 😂
Well you guys are certainly not afraid of hard work! I've subscribed to your channel and I look forward with interest to the way this project progresses, My Dad used to work in that colliery and the people living in the caravans were mostly Germans who had come to sink the mine shaft whilst working for the Thyssen company. Best of luck to you. XXL (just in case 😃)
That's amazing Ian, my grandad Islwyn Rosser worked there and was a lodge leader, is your dad still around? Wonder if he knew my grandad.
@@joncampoutwest Sadly my Dad is no longer with us but he often mentioned your grandad and I met him many times 😊
It is amazing to watch a couple work togather to accomplish a goal. My wife and I look forward to a time when we can do that.
Emily and John, what more can I say other than Epic!, a mammoth task which you have committed to and your energy is inspirational, great watching your progress towards the light at the end of a very very long tunnel. Good Luck! - Large size. Take care Bazza.
Bazza, thanks so much for the support ! So pleased you enjoy watching 🙏
I heard you say you didn’t want to show any of the process just taking the whole caravan but please do, Timelapse are the best thing ever!
Thanks Savi! Will show more in the next video 😊
Wow, that was an awesome episode, amazing they lent you that huge metal box makes life so much easier! Thanks for the great content guys :) I’d wear an XL
So pleased you are enjoying the content. It's amazing they've bought it! Excited to get the other chassis cut up and thrown in there 🥳
Love watching your videos and listening to you guys talk. It’s a little different than folks here in Alabama USA. Can’t wait for the next video. XXL
Hi guys thanks for keeping the updates going. Nice to see your land taking shape all the hard work is paying off.
A grate Couple doing the responsible thing for a beautiful home .
Thanks Bruce! Excited to see where we are this time next month, once all the caravans are long gone 😅
XXL for hubby please! Great that you are taking the time to breakdown the vans and recycling as much as you can. The planet thanks you❤️✨
You guys have been doing an amazing job!! Cannot wait to see how you guys get on over the spring and summer whilst the weather is better, brighter and the days are longer!!! (Size small) ❤
Thank you! We have been loving every second 🥰 we are so excited for the longer days and sunshine! Xxx
I love your videos! Just a suggestion. If you don't put gutters along the sides of the road for the water to run off all the road will fill up with mud again and all that work will be wasted. Keep up all your hard work. Can't wait to watch it all.
Thanks for the tip. We were going to put drainage at the top of the drive, to attempt to intercept it coming down the drive as our land is like a sponge currently 😅
Just found your channel. It's inspiring to see what a lot of young people are willing to take on to get what they want in life instead of being like so many these days where they want everything new and shiny and want it now as opposed to working their way up to that. You've taken on a massive job and must already be feeling a big sense of pride and accomplishment. I look forward to following your progress so I've subscribed to the channel so I'll know when you put out new videos. If I'm fortunate enough to win, would need a XXL for the person here who would be wearing it. (PS - I'm located in Canada)
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment to us Ruth 🙏 (and all the way from Canada too!) We are so grateful for your support and can't wait to continue sharing our journey with you ❤️
Hello guys - really enjoyed the last couple of videos. Your enthusiasm for this mammoth project is just amazing. A Large t-shirt would be utterly amazing. Thanks
Someday you are going to stand back and look at your beautiful cleared land and say “we did that”! You both are amazing and I look forward to following your adventure! (Size Large)😊
We are so excited Jenn! Can't wait to see where we are by the end of the month, let alone next year 🥰
@@CampOutWestI bet, I would be excited too! I certainly will be following along. 😊😊
Grief folks, what a tremendous amount of hard work you are putting into making your new home and future, wonderful testimony. Size L.
Thanks Isobel 😊
Great job both of you ! Can’t wait for next episode ❤
Thanks so much Cazza! 🥰
You both work so hard to get projects completed
Thanks :) we are loving every second!
A size Medium in your t-shirts would be amazing🙏 Love watching all the progress you're making (hopefully you're both able to take some moments of rest too- looks like very hard work day in day out!) This is the dream for my partner & I to do too- we're on the hunt for land to buy now! You're both very inspiring what you're doing, look forward to seeing your tiny home dream come to fruition♡
Thanks so much Grace :) we took yesterday and this morning off so we could enjoy the sunshine and spend time at the beach with Maggie. It was so lovely! Good luck with your land search and let us know how you get on!
Quite the project you’ve got, wow. There’s about 6 separate video stories in this one video. You guys remind me of the Make Do Grow channel except you’re in the UK instead of Portugal. 😀 Eric.
It is going to make such a difference once all your scrap piles have gone. The scrap metal skip will definitely make you more than £200, look forward to the outcome of that video. You guys are getting on great, been watching from the beginning and love seeing your progress. Size X-LARGE
Honestly, it's so nice not waking up and seeing it from the window of our caravan each morning. We are excited to see how much we will get for it! Thanks for watching :)
@@CampOutWest you should keep all the wire n chords separate as that has it's own value and would get you more money instead of tossing it in with the scrap mix! That's the thing with using a bin like that, you won't get the true worth of your scrap.
Ah! It feels so nice to remove all this garbage from the property! I'm pretty sure in a few years it's going to be a small paradise! You care so much about the trees and the nature that it's going to pay you back in beauty! If a t-shirt finds its way to my house in Greece, I'm wearing Small!
Love watching the progress you guys are making, it’s great to see the caravan site be transformed, I used to live in the area and remember seeing it, thank you for the hello fresh discount just ordered my first box and size XXL for the t-shirt
Scott, amazing you remember it! Jon's grandad used to run a fruit and veg van and deliver to all the local villages for years, so we've heard so many stories about it from when he used to deliver here. His other grandad then used to work down the mjne across the road. So we've loved hearing everyones history. So pleased you enjoy watching!
Live that you guys are keeping things from the caravans and recycling things you can, rather than dumping it all in a skip! I'm a size S :)
Love watching your videos and seeing all the progress you are making! Size S! xxx
Thanks Rachel 🥰
Maggie is beautiful. I hope you start having nice weather. Love watching. Love from Australia ❤🐶❤🐶❤🐶❤
Working hard again guys. I do like how you are sorting out each caravan bit by bit, but it’s very time consuming.
I also really didn’t think there was any tarmac under all the soil matter, you were digging!!
I hope to support you sometime as I couldn’t when you were doing Kickstarter. Would love some of your awesome branded merch though 👌🏼 size S 😄
Thanks so much Georgie! So satisfying getting to walk on hard ground now, compared to the mud 🤣
Georgie! You have won a T-shirt! Please Let us know your email address :)
@@CampOutWest thanks :) I’ll let you know on Instagram dm.
Lovely to see Miss Maggie playing in the snow! ❤ Watching from the 45th Parallel in Michigan, USA. 😊
Love watching your videos! You both work so hard, can’t even imagine how tired you are!! Can’t wait to keep up with the progress 💖 (Size: XXL please) xx
Thanks Laura, we've been sleeping so well at night! haha
You two are making short work of those old campers. Who needs a gym membership with the work out you are getting. Very impressive so far all the cleaning and clearing you have done. Here in America the the phone company and power company take care of the clearing for the lines that’s nice of you to do the work. Looking forward to spring and seeing what the future looks like for y’all. Size Large. Thank you, Susan
XL
Wham, bam, thank you ma'am.
Another caravan down!
I'm a size large, by the way.
woohoo! another one bites the dust 🎉
Nice job, well done. But I hope I catch you in time before you let the skip go.!! Collect all the cables off all appliances as well as all other scrap cable. Bag it and take it to your scrap guys, worth much more than the aluminium. Also the motors off the washing machines and other electrical equipment. Good luck 👍 💓
Thanks so much Andrew! Thanks for the tip :) the skip is still here 😊 we will dig them out! thank you for taking the time to comment
Large please! This looks so rewarding and I love all the recycling!
My husband would need 46/48" for the giveaway.
Loving your videos, you're doing so well knocking those caravans to bits
Yay, another progress video! I wear my t-shirts in large 😍
Thank you so much for all your updates! Really loving watching your journey. My husband would love a tshirt in M please. 😊
It's coming along..That's great that you were able to get the scrap recycle container, saves alot of running to scrape yard...🙀 Timber!!!, you just did missed having
the roof on top of you...
🙈😲😬..❤🌹
I think the camera angles made it look riskier than it was, i wanted it to fall that way to avoid hitting the trees.
@@joncampoutwest Of course not the Trees..Just cutting closer me..🤦♀️🤔🥴🤣
Really enjoy the two you..❤🌹
John is “A Genuine Hammer” on the Demolition!
Well done on what you have achieved so far. Tip,,,,, separate the copper, (including the electrical cable as winter project for stripping) and aluminium from the other metals. you'll be surprised how much you'll get for the copper.
Should have just went to some local rivers, and grabbed a couple tons of river rocks. Or seen about getting a dumptruck load of gravel dropped off. Then you could have raked that out over the driveway, then used your SUV to go over the rock and compress it down into the mud, and given yourselfs a much more stable driveway.
I also remember seeing that if you can get reclaimed concrete, it works even better for driveways or anyplace that you expect to have heavy vehicles driving.
Amazing caravans are so flimsy! Two wonderful young people working together for their future! Just don’t see much of that anymore wishing them all the best !
Thanks so much Margaret 🙂🙂🙂
We did something very similar 25 years ago.WHAT A JOB! Be careful, God bless.
You guys are living the dream, so glad to see our amazing British weather hasn't stopped you in fact maybe the complete opposite. (XXL)
Congratulations on a huge paradigm shift in your lives!!! To echo others, you have been missed and I am glad to see new videos. 😊 If I am lucky enough to be chosen, an XL shirt for me.... 🤞
shocked how thin those mobile home walls are! Your hard work will all pay off in the end.
Thanks so much 😊😊
You could of made one of the caravan trailers into a scrap hauling trailer. That would of been a little work but would of saved you a lot of loading and stacking into the van.
Good job reducing your work by loading straight into the van! ❤😊 Yay🎉
Love watching your journey and the positivity you continue your path with ' even against the challenges you face !! It's so inspiring to me and my wife to chase our dreams. Adam xxl ..keep up the amazing work 🙌
Wow. So much work. I can’t wait to see the progression. Wish I was there to help. I’m a 3x.
Thanks so much Decimus :)
I'd love an XL size t shirt, keep up the great work guys
Thanks Darryn
Great to see welsh being represented on CZcams. Size for me would be M. Thanks for posting this, love it
What amazing progress. You have really got a system going now. (size M)
Thanks Julie! We are so motivated right now!
Weigh your scrap wire and aluminium in separate to the scrap in the skip. You'll get a far better price, especially on your copper wire, I hope you see this before the skips collected.
We've kept all the copper pipes and an old copper tank separate and the ali separate to weigh in, do you think the cables are really worth much as they are? I thought they were only worth alot if you strip off the outer?
@@joncampoutwest ring your scrap yard for a price, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. You can strip them but for the time it takes and the weight you loose on the insulation it may not be worth it. Something to consider. 👍
Big job.
I woud like to see more of the actual clean up. Longer video's without talking. I love to see video's of People cleanlng up places like this.
All the best.
So so inspirational. Seeing and feeling your joy and positive whilst giving so much of yourself to the land is incredible. Keep shining your light! Would you ever consider volunteers to help clear and lighten the load? A large Top would do wonders if I was ever so lucky to win 🏆
We moved to South Wales in 2021 for a downsized, lower cost Life in a valley village. Still renovating the house but mostly done, so I empathise with the work. 3 acres is going to be fun keeping up with so good luck. 🤞👍
Large size would be absolutely amazing. And I would like to say you are both amazing and I can’t wait to see your beautiful home when it’s finished brilliant from Claire
If you take in aluminum again, you can step on bent pieces to "fold" them and make them take up less apace.
Thanks so much for the tip 😊
The pair of you are certainly not work shy, good on you can't wait for the next episode.👍👍🇬🇧
Thanks Ronald 😊next episode dropping on the weekend
Keep up the good work. Saving our planet and your sanity. Stay safe too. XL
Awesome! Good to see you guys back after a short break. Well done. L Shirt please.
Cut ditches on both sides of the road make them lower than the gravity can be your friend
I have a caravan on a Caravan park. We have a tarmac road. The only criticism is it wasn’t made wide enough for modern vehicles. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze two cars mate
Thanks for the tip, made us think maybe we should widen it in the future :)
I’m so fascinated by your project! We will definitely come to stay when you open your doors. I’d love a Camp Out West t shirt in a Large 👕
You need plant machinery/excavator on site. Will help with multiple jobs.
Would love one, sadly out of our budget 😅
That is damn hard work and the best thing is? You keep on smiling. Great bids. Keep the faith, guys and happy daze!
This looked like a lot of fun! one thing you wont get as much money from these 3 other caravans as the first one you knocked down was the biggest and built with more aluminium!
Wow you guys have been so busy. So much work, sorting the metals, wood etc. Really hard graft. Well done you are a credit to your new venture. With your enthusiasm and energy anything is possible. Love your Vids. Thankyou for sharing. Size XL please if I am lucky. Thanks 😊 x
Superb job - you can really see the wheat from the chaf now. Must be so much easier to work in there now!!

Loving watching your videos and so close to my hometown! You have such a mission of a job taking apart those caravans, fair play. Good thing those Ammanford lads gave you a container, so much easier!
Oh no way! Where are you from? llanelli? we were living in llanelli for the last 5 years until we moved out to here :) but all Jon's family are all from this area (he even still has family still living in our village)
Things are coming along….looking good….
