I work in UA's domestic network planning. I oversee a lot of gating & flight scheduling etc at EWR. Love the frontline "behind-the-scenes" you give our customers on your various digital platforms. You put a personality to the company that many of us can't do, and I'm grateful you allow the public to see how fortunate we are to work in the industry. Keep up the amazing work, and thanks for making the skies friendly! :)

Hi, I am looking to Pivot into a network planner position in the airlines industry. It is a dream of mine. I currently work in defense industry as a production planner. What tips would you recommend for someone looking to get into a network planning role?
Waiting for UA to beat its domestic network length record with a nonstop hub-to-hub flight from GUM to the mainland (triweekly 787-8?)...although I still heart the Island Hopper...

I love your positive attitude and your gratitude for what you have in your life. We all need to be kinder to each other while enjoying our lives. Kudo's for getting out of the hotel and exploring. I'm guilty of NOT getting out of my hotel room enough when I use to travel on business. Hopefully others will be encouraged and take your lead to explore when they are traveling for business.

MCO is a nice airport.
I was just there last month when flying to Cancun, my layover was in Orlando.
Flew this exact route about seven years ago and compared to the return trip laying over LAX there's no comparison. The nonstop is more convenient and feels unique as there's only a select few of nonstop flights between NYC and Hawaii.
I truly appreciate this video. It was simple, relatable, informative and helps you to remember how we can never take things for granted! I have never been to HI but I am so blessed to be able to travel where I travel to! I thank God every day and thank you for this. Safe travels.

Great video. I work with adults who are developmentally disabled. My client Jon is 45 yrs. and emotionally about 2 yrs old. He can be a handful and it takes a lot of mental and emotional energy to deal with him every minute I am with him. If I had the opportunity to go with him on a Make A Wish vacation to Disneyworld, I would go with him in a heartbeat. The trip wouldn't be for me, it would be for him. Just to see the smile on his face when he sees a Disney character, or an attraction, it makes the whole experience worthwhile.
What a waste of resources for essentially a man baby.
I lived there for 3 years. Loved that hike and flying over there. Love your channel!

@MyLayoverLife - Please keep the videos coming. I discovered you recently and I love watching them. I kick myself every day that I didn't become a pilot. I know most don't care, but I'd have really liked to hear a little more about the flight planning prior to take off from EWR (fuel load, V Speeds, TOW, etc). However, great share. Thanks!

Another awesome video! I commented on your "how much does it cost to commute" vid. Thank you! My wife is doing a lot of LAX-HNL now and I went with her New Year's weekend and again MLK weekend. I get how to be appreciative of what we have in this world. Thank you for reminding us. I usually pack my tennis rackets and head over the Kapiolani Park and pick up a couple of sets and my wife usually just finds a spot under a tree and chills while I play. My dad is from Honolulu and as many times as I've been to Oahu, we've never been up Koko Head. It is now for sure on our list to hit up next time we go. Thanks again and keep up the good work!

The Koko Head stairs are a must. I’ve seen all types of people doing them, and some with weighted vests getting in their exercise. There is also a botanical garden inside the Koko crater that is free. Somehow your channel popped up and I’ve enjoyed the videos.

Well make a wish is a wonderful resource for people…some people cannot make the journeys or full fill their wish list like you are doing for one reason or another. For those that cannot, your videos are a wonderful resource. For health reasons, this trip up the stairs to see this beautiful site is now beyond the possibility for me to a accomplish so thank you for sharing this..at least through your video I can see the beauty of the struggle to get up there to see the beautiful views and I can imagine doing this myself…thank for your videos traveling the world..

The 767-400 is a really cool plane. I flew as a passenger on one from Frankfurt to Houston, about 11 hours. It was then CO47, now UA47, which now flies that trip using 777-200s. Sending best wishes!

I love how you mix the travel in with your piloting. FYI, that was Koko Crater you climbed. Koko Head is out across the highway. Hanauma Bay is the crater and Koko Head is lava flow. I lived near Koko Head School back in the early 70's. Keep up the great vlogs!
I've done that hike before but never to catch the sunrise. Very nice! Definitely need to make it back there sometime.

Very interesting to learn of the cockpit differences between the 300 and the 400. Lovely ending to this video, very poignant and meaningful.
Amazing views from the top. That hike looks similar to one we have here in Colorado Springs, CO. It's the Manitou Incline, which is most likely tougher considering it is just under a mile and gains 2000'. Awesome that you get out there and seek beauty like that.

Your channel is awesome and I really feel like I’ve gotten in before you go big time! Flew this route years ago and while the 767 is awesome in economy for couples, feel like they should upgrade the interior to give it a more up to date biz class. Hope to see you in my cockpit one day…

I think I’d pass on your pre sunrise hike! The view is lovely but my bones couldn’t take it.
At 2:40 you can see the water inside the concrete barriers. Went there one night with my brother and turned off our dive lights. Running your hands over the rocks/concrete you'd see the seaweed (or what ever it is) lighting up IT WAS AWESOME!
I was on a 777 from ORD > OGG for my 400th United flight. When I asked the captain to sign my ticket, I found out that's was the 36 year veteran's (Capt. Paul) retirement flight. Afterward, he left with his wife to the sunny beaches of Maui. On the return flight, I was on the 767 from OGG > EWR (in this case, it would be the 2nd longest domestic flight 😁).
Hawaii seems to be a popular retirement flight. I’ve been on a few flights where a pilot was retiring (one 787, two 777).

@@mylayoverlife Well, as evidenced by @united commenting on your crew scheduling video, we know they can see it. So crew scheduling should route one of you through the other's hub (and he's junior to you, so probably send him to Newark) and assign a trip to London 😉🤣

Paul this route is the reason we are loyal to united despite living nearest PHL (that and the EWR UClub) my family pingpongs between HNL and EWR 3-4 times per year and i HOPE you are our captian next time! Thanks for the great videos especially this one. Our home for the past 12 years has been Oahu but we are on the east coast taking care or an aging family member for a lot of the year. Its great to watch this and see the beach party at dukes LOL. We all laugh when you say you woke up before the sunrise ...like you had a choice! Message me if you ever want some awesome local North Shore things to do.
