- Your Path to United: bit.ly/UALPilotApplication ... My latest trip as a United Airlines pilot took me 16,700 miles back and forth across the Atlantic four times to Zurich, Switzerland. It was a long time to be on the road, especially over the Holiday Season!... But I love flying the 767-300 and Zurich is an incredible destination. In this video, you’ll learn about reserve assignments, the trip's structure, and how I manage international rest. Plus, I experienced my most adventurous overnight to date flying Swiss airplanes over the Alps. I hope you enjoy a behind-the-scenes view of how a trip like this comes together!
A special thanks to my friends in Switzerland Lio Hilber (@liothepilotperson) and Thomas Zottos (@thomaszottos) for taking me flying in some absolutely incredible aircraft over the Alps! I’ll have a tough time topping this experience.

Love your videos! True insperation. Wish we could see more "operational" videos, if you know what you mean (I know you must follow UA's procedures ☺).
Video about pay and benefits at United
A cargo flight would be really cool(fly jump seat on a FedEx or ups for a day, or something like that)
Absolutely loved this vlog. It would be interesting to know how your schedule is from month to month (I'd imagine it's quite varied), and more information on the UA bidding system. Thanks.
Can you record from cockpit view?
It's fantastic to see a young man maximizing both his youth and his career. You're building fantastic memories while enjoying great adventures. Enjoy and savor your youth as it goes by fast, REALLY fast. 😉
Don't tell him that🤐 fortunately we only realize that after our 40's hit😝
Thank you so much! I make these videos for all of you, so I really appreciate you watching. This is the best job ever, and I’m loving every step
@@SwayneMartinPilot Impressive skills ! Keep going !!!!
Yes I agree REALLY REALLY FAST INDEED!!!!
@@SwayneMartinPilot Did you ever explain why you joined United instead of American ? I always thought American Eagle practically guaranteed you a good position with American. Just curious
I'm a 787 Captain at UAL and I find your videos very informative and professionally done.
Thanks, Brad! Hope to fly with you someday!
How many hours do you have? Looks like before the 787, you helmed the 744. Quite the career!
@@SwayneMartinPilot Where are you bro !!??? 767 is like a First Gen 787, 767 was my favorite plane for so long
@@SwayneMartinPilot Why haven't you posted in so long?!?! What's up? 😶🌫
Swayne, buddy you gotta give us an update, anything at this point man. We're all worried and just wanna know you made on the ground safely.
the production quality on these videos are absolutely breathtaking. not only a pilot, but also a pro video producer.
Thank you so much!

Our world is lucky to have you!
Lucky to have all of you! I spend a ton of time producing these videos, so hearing you enjoy them makes my day 🙌🏻
We really are. Swayne is a cool pilot. Been watching since hawaii flights.
We miss your videos.

This is the exact reason why I want to become a pilot, constant travel which I rlly love and with the combination of aviation which is one of my favorite things ever since I was born.
That would blow my mind that in a week I could be in both Europe and North America multiple times over. Really awesome that you get to fly a 767 (one of my 3 favorite aircraft to ride on)! And thanks to United Airlines to allow a behind-the-scenes look at their flight operations.
It would until you did it for a few years straight. Then, not so much. Once you get over the "glam", its all about the Benjamins and TAFB.
@@lbowsk what is TAFB?
@@lbowsk do u know from experience? TAFB?
@@jakobmatauschek7722 Time Away From Base. IOW, Time on the road. The hours that your car is in the crew lot. A high TAFB number means your wife and kids have no idea who you are. Your hobbies are on hold. You miss birthdays, anniversaries, weekend BBQs with your friends, etc. You seldom sleep in your own bed. You're AWOL. For most pilots, the goal is to minimize TAFB while maximizing your W2. Not to jam in as many trips through customs (and sleep-wrecking time zone changes) as possible.
I'm a Swiss American living on the west coast. I always try to fly on United 763 because of the 2-3-2 configuration. She looks great in the new colors to!

Hi Swayne! So good to see you flying the 76. I’m ORD-based UA mechanic. I’ve been watching you since your Mokelele days in Hawaii. I hope one day you’ll be my checkman. Thanks for the inspiration and blue skies! See you on the apron! 🤘

We appreciate you working on the holiday... pilots often go underappreciated. Many dont realize that you dont get to always have holidays off. You have to willing give up seeing family and friends. Thank you for doing this. We appreciate you.

One of the fantastic cities in Europe my wife and I have had the pleasure of visiting is Zurich. Beautiful beyond words and the folks there are superb.
Swayne, how cool to go from sweating the textbooks in North Dakota to commuting to/fro Hawaii and starting your Commercial flying career to flying the regionals domestically and now to UA mainline as an FO and getting the chance to fly internationally so soon in your new career! Dream come true, Bro', right!!? Congrats, keep it up and keep publishing your quality YT videos, OK?

Love your vids man. You are living my dream job right now. Can’t wait to be in the skies someday after hs. Have a great day and happy flying 😁
Do it josh. We need good pilots.
A real Busman’s holiday. You are living the dream of many young people. Keep encouraging this with your wonderful videos.
Man I love the Pilatus PC7 and especially the PC12
We used to do the same type of pattern at British airways, 4 transatlantic’s in 6 days, we called them back to backs. We were allowed to be rostered one in every 28 day period.
So fantastic to see the passion for your job in your eyes. I've been following your channel since the very beginning. 😊

The glamorous tough life of a commercial pilot. I was flying to London on Christmas Eve, as a passenger of United and going back to Chicago by the end of January. Maybe we'll fly together 🤷🏼😀
Gotta agree, it would be tough to ever beat that layover. Wow
Talk about "Complexities"!! Wow! It's GREAT that you're telling us the real "Nuts & Bolts" of being a commercial pilot. It's clearly somewhat of a strain on personal and social activities. ✈
Your videos are great. I'm happy United has allowed you to continue these videos as your advance in your career!

Miss your videos! When will you be back?
I remember one time meeting a United pilot in Denver who sat in the left seat and who had flown for many many years. He was out as to who he was to everyone and no one had any issues with it including United. I could say the same thing about the other airlines in the US and that was 20 years ago. Glad that nowadays we have the platforms that allows everyone to see the realities of life and Swayne is of no exception. Many commercial airline pilots are retiring soon so there is a huge need for newer pilots. Some of the best flights I've ever flown were by female pilots, something unheard of back in the 70s. The times have changed and for the better. Thank you Swayne.
I love the way you explain how the scheduling works and how you manage rest and off time. Keep having fun.

The section where you spoke about the techniques to adjust to the time zone was interesting. I've never seen that addressed before. I might try to match the time in my time zone, but sleeping when tired would probably win out.
Loved watching the recreational flights over the Alps. Thanks for sharing that.👍

It's always a pleasure watching these videos. Can't wait to be flying the lines in 2 years
Still the best aviation channel! Love your enthusiasm for flight and aviation! Amazing shots all video long!
I remember when you started with this videos back with Envoy , I'm glad to see you have succeeded moving into mainline but sad to see you with UA , i wish you'd have stayed with AA but wish you nothing but the best with any airline you decided to continue your journey with.
Punishing schedule for sure, but dude, look at those maneuvers over the Alps with your Swiss friends....that's worth any fatigue 10x over!
Ugh this makes me want to become a pilot so bad
Do itttyt
1. Go to local flight school for discovery flight. 2. Get a medical 3. Focus on completing 1st solo. Then... you've just logged Pilot-in-Command, Solo hours, and are now a pilot.
I'm very pleased to see UA enabling your continued videos. Yes, they too are likely a 'beneficiary'; but you do a fantastic job with these.

You are truly loving the dream man, soak in every moment of it. I am currently a Delta airlines AMT, I truly love what I do but my ultimate dream was to be a commercial airline pilot, suffered multiple medical setbacks during my PPL phase and home life I decided to let it go. So cool to watch you joyfully climb the ladder and share all the nooks and crannies of enjoying the career.

Are new videos coming up? Sadly, the channel became pretty silent :/
Incredible video! 🔥 I love Zurich and can't wait to go back!
You do such a great job in your editing, and monologues. I look forward to each video you do. As a guy that spent his career below wing it’s nice to see above wing have such a great and contagious attitude. Keep going places and I’ll keep watching. Clear skies and tail winds my friend.
I used to live and work in Switzerland in the early 90’s. I was a regular on United 960/961 767 service to cdg. Then a Ual 727 to/from Geneva.
Wow that's intense. Also absolute credit on your editing, your videos are genuinely fascinating to watch.

GREAT VIDEO! Used to be accountable for the legacy United Crew Scheduling systems in IT for a few years. The systems sure have come a long way since I had them in the mid-2000s! Keep up the work!
