  • Threlkeld Quarry and mining museum near Keswick in the Lake District of England held their annual Steam Gala, featuring 7 locos in steam and 2 Steam Excavators. With Blencathra Mountain dominating the background, the locos work hard to climb the quarry line. The visiting locos were Quarry Hunslets 'Hugh Napier' and 'Lilla' (from the Ffestiniog Railway), Marchlyn and Quarry Hunslet 'Sybil Mary' (from Statfold Barn Railway), plus 1238 and 'Stanhope' from the Mosley Railway Trust. Resident loco 'Sir Tom' was also featured. The quarry's own Steam Navvy returned to service this year and is the oldest surviving Steam Excavator in the World. A Steam Navvy visiting from Statfold was working at the end of the Quarry line.

mollsmyre Hi Tommy. Another superb event. Every year it gets better and better. We chose the right day for weather. A friend went on the Sunday and their Steam Navvy was working more but they were still doing adjustments. regards Joseph

+Pete Knight Hi Pete. Thanks for your kind words. I hear that they are altering the track layout at the start of the line so we will definitely be there next year to see what they've done. Its an excellent event and hope you can get there sometime. regards Joseph

Awesome footage. I wanted to go so much but work got in the way. Lilla seems to have been the star. She's loud! It's nice to see the Penrhyn locos together all in Penrhyn livery. It's amazing to see those 2 incredible steam shovels and that bulldozer sounded good. Sybil Mary loos to be in excellent nick. Bring on Statfold RM readers' day!

I see. Isn't that always there? I'm asking because I'm going to the RM readers' day at Statfold and I really want to see a steam shovel.

William Roberts Hi William. Thanks for watching and leaving a great comment. As for the Steam Navvy from Statfold, as Dan mentions it was the one at the end of the Quarry line doing a lot of work. The Quarries own steam navvy was the one on railway tracks. A friend went Sunday and it was doing more work then. There was a Volvo Artic and low loader trailer out of view that would take the Statfold Navvy back home after the event. regards Joseph
