Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum Steam Gala 27th July 2014

- The annual Steam Gala at the Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum featured passenger trains and demonstration freight trains. An Erie Steam Shovel was in service as well as six visiting steam locos and their home-based loco 'Sir Tom'. The visiting locos were: No. 22 'Montalban', 'Minas De Aller', 'Paddy', 'Jennie', 'Statfold' and 'Chaloner'. Thanks to the Threlkeld team for such an excellent gala and a big thank you to the owners and train crews for bringing such great locos for our enjoyment.
Threlkeld's an amazing place. The Erie steam shovel's something else. They even used a vintage water pump! Highlights were the 2 double-headers. Never seen vertical-boilered thrash before (except from a Sentinal steam lorry!)

Very interesting motion on that French engine. Love the vertical boiler doubleheader! Great to see the steam shovel in action, that looks very interesting.
Hi Andrei. Your right about that vertical boiler double header. You could tell it was something special when all the volunteers and other train crews were taking pictures and watching it. Steam shovel was great. In fact apart from a bit of rain early on, it was a superb day.

Hi Allan. Thanks for your great comments again. It was a great event. The little engines have to work hard to get up the hill and the sound bounces off the quarry walls. 7 engines in steam and 1 Steam Shovel and Blencathra as the backdrop. Superb. Regards Joseph

Hi Tommy. It was another great event. Some superb things like pumping water out of a stream to top up their locos boiler or the steam shovel filling up the trucks. Bit wet in the morning but it got better later. I think the organisation were pleased with the visitor numbers over the weekend. Regards Joseph
Excellent video Joseph, never been to Threkeld but it looks great and some very interesting locomotives on display here.
