      destinyawaitsx3 Tom Welling did a Comic Con panel where he described working with Christopher Reeve as an out of body experience. I get what he means. For him and everyone else who will ever play Superman, the character is too iconic for one person to truly embody. Tom and the later actors, even great ones, can only be "this version of Superman", at best. But Christopher Reeve IS Superman. It must be like playing superheroes as a kid, and then the character you "are" appears right in front of you.

    Had Christopher Reeve not suffered that terrible injury, it would have been great to see him play Jor-El in Smallville.
    You hear the words magical, mythic in this video when the producer's speak of Reeve. This is so true. He had an 'other worldly' aura about him which made you totally buy into the character. His casting was probably the most appropriate and inspired in cinema history. Kudos to Richard Donner sticking to his guns & demanding an unknown.

      Let's get back on Christopher Reeve. Like everyone has their favourite Bond....everybody will have a favourite Superman. Christopher set the foundation and actually gave Clark his 'persona'.
      If it wasn't for Christopher, I hate to think what Clark would be like.
      He wasn't just a Great Superman....he was an Amazing Clark that no other (great) Superman actor has quite managed to incorporate.
      Any 'Muscle' can play Superman but it takes a truly talented actor to play Clark.

    • @thawedcavebear
      @thawedcavebear Před 7 lety +9

      He really was the classic Superman--Gold, Silver and Bronze Age. A realistic, slightly more vulnerable and prone to anger bronze age Superman certainly mixes with his 'performing' as the gentlemanly Silver age character--but there are a number of scenes where he breaks social rules, and is generally an Alpha-m dick...it's right out of the pages from 1938-43. It was only Chris's talent performing that kept you from noticing the character's shifting around too much :)
      -And when he lost his physicality, he managed to channel the Superman character subtly into his way of living and of communicating, to become a phenomenally successful activist--one more version of Superman, in a way.
      We're unlikely to see his like on earth again.

Robin was the first person who was able to make Chris laugh, and he realized that if he could laugh at something, he would be okay. That really boosted his spirits, and I am forever grateful to Robin for being there for Chris in his darkest hour. When I first saw Christopher Reeve change into the suit and fly out of the Fortress of Solitude...there are no words to describe that feeling. It inspired my love if comic book superheroes and it also inspired me to become a writer. To that 6 year old boy, Christopher Reeve wasn't some actor who played Superman, he WAS Superman and now, exactly 40 years later, after watching Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill don that red "S", I still say that Christopher Reeve, who left us in 2004, will ALWAYS be MY Superman.

    The amazing thing about Christopher Reeve is how he embodied hope. Because really, Superman has always done that and when you see his Superman, he did it the best of them. He embodied Hope, Joy and truth. And while that's amazing, it's his determination after the accident and persistence to keep being happy, and giving his all rather than giving up that inspires even more hope than being Superman.
    First, he convinced us a God could still be a Kind man. Then, he showed us how a Broken man could do the same.

      @TheMisterJinglez Před 9 lety +1

      destinyawaitsx3 Arrow is very realistic and grounded. It's best moments are martial art style fight scenes and covert mission type things or the occasional plot twist. I would definitely recommend the first two seasons, as those were very suspenseful and difficult to predict the outcome. Everything built up suspense until the end where your waiting pays off.
      However, after that story arc ended, around season 3, it becomes more of a drama and I personally do not find interest in many of the supporting characters. They are a bit too bland to base the plot on. So yes it gets a bit boring. The show doesn't have much of the supernatural or fantasy nature like Smallville or Flash, so that is the part that will divide who wants to watch it and who doesn't. However, you may like it more than I do.
      I find "Daredevil" on Netflix to pull off the "cool, dark themed, realistic, skilled hero" thing better.

The world could use more people like Christopher Reeve. He embodied the spirit of Superman, and lived life with confidence, courage, and hope. He was not just a great man, but a Superman. And that is what he forever shall be to me. Rest in peace.

    Wasnt it great... back in 1978 when the newly developed "Industrial Light & Magic" ( I.L.M. ) Lucas film's out of this world level of special effects caused such a sensation when Christopher Reeve FIRST FLEW in that movie ? He simply floated off the crystal ice shelf in his fortress of solitude with one gentle leap into the air, cape waving at the audience... People stood up as we ALL cheered and clapped ! We truly DID believe a man could fly ! As a 13 year old boy... I had tears welling up in ny eyes. Thank you Christopher Reeve. Thank you.

    Personally, I am forever astounded at the legacy of the late Christopher Reeve and I hope that it continues through his paralysis foundation because it is so important for those who had to go through in life as he did in the most difficult of circumstances. I also felt sad when I saw Mr. Reeve having given his impressive performance on "Smallville" years ago as "Dr. Virgil Swann" and it was a nice way of keeping the "Superman" legacy alive as well.

    From what I remember it was Christopher Reeve, some say Brandon Routh was his lookalike in the remake before Man of Steel film portrayed by Henry Cavill as Superman.. but in TV, Tom Welling will always be Superman, he should reprise his role now that Tom is older.. make a cameo on Arrow. That would be awesome.

    I got the chance to ask Reeve a question a week before he died. I will never forget the exchange:
    *A star-struck and fumbling me: When you regain your ability to walk, what’s the first thing you will do?
    *Reeve: Well, I hope I don’t fall down. But if I do, I’m gonna get right back up.
    No other modern comic book movie would exist without Reeve’s Superman. He is still the best. Every current and future actor will do well, but nobody will ever encompass what Superman is better than Christopher Reeve.

  • @tayl2991
    @tayl2991 Před 4 lety +4

    There is something that sets Superman apart from other Superheroes. At least, it's a belief I have. Unlike a lot of other Superheroes, (Batman, The Green Arrow, Iron Man, Black Widow), Superman has always been Superman. He doesn't need the cape and tights. Let me clarify. Okay.... Iron Man can fight and fly and do all sorts of cool stuff- when in the suit. Take off the literal suit of armor, and you have Tony Stark. A regular man, who happens to be very rich. The same can be said about Batman. They don't have powers, and if you shoot them in the head, they die. They aren't so much Superheroes as they are plain old heroes. Spider-Man is a little bit different. His powers from the spider bite makes him a superhero, along with his compassion, which brings us to Superman. Kal-El/Clark Kent has powers fueled by Earth's yellow sun. If he were still on Krypton, he'd be the same as the rest of us. In Smallville, if you can get your hands on green Kryptonite and lightning or electricity, you can have the powers of a Kryptonian. That is precisely What I mean about Superman. Clark Kent puts on that suit and saves people. He will also save people without the suit. Can you see where he is different? Superman's powers don't make him Superman; Clark Kent's beliefs and love of humanity make him Superman. When Eric Summers/Sommers got Clark's powers in season 1, he abused them and hurt people. Pretty much anybody who had powers in the series used them to hurt others. Basically in the show, anybody can have superpowers, but that doesn't make them a hero. Even though the show creators claimed this was NOT Superman, the very way the character of Clark Kent/Superman was created contradicts that statement, and the producers of the show and the actors don't know it. They haven't analyzed it the way I have. If I ever get to meet Tom Welling, I will tell him all this.

    • @beckymerchant4678
      @beckymerchant4678 Před 4 lety

      Iron Man's superpower was his genius. Yes, he needed the suit(s) to do good. But comparing Iron Man and Superman by just their powers/abilities defeats the character's purpose and story arcs. Iron Man's story is more about redemption, from being a man of questionable morals to wanting to change the world and be a hero. Superman's whole story is about being out of place in the world and discovering his purpose. Powers serve the story yes, but if a person solely focuses on them, then they lose A LOT of the story being told.

    • @tayl2991
      @tayl2991 Před 4 lety

      @@beckymerchant4678 I do see your point, but I stand by what I posted 7 months ago. My view hasn't changed. This is how I see the Superheroes. And Clark also felt some need to repay the world that adopted him.
