- My Review of the 2024 Mazda3 Turbo. A hatch that was held back from being a performance champ. For enthusiasts that are mechanically inlined, this could make for an interesting challenge to improve upon the original design to see if it can be turned into a hot hatch with the right modifications.

Crazy how this generation was released 5 years ago, and it's still one of the nicest looking car in production today
agreed! i just got a '21 cx30 turbo yesterday and the fact that they have a similar (almost identical lol) style to the mazda3 brings the freshness of the 3 back up to "brand new". forever love mazda's design choices lately
Sasquatch Hooker. Great band name. Front looks Mustang-ish...Ford influence...but Mazda and Ford have had a relationship for decades.
As usual, great review.
Be well.
Crazy how in white clinical coat and glasses, Aphrodite Venus incarnated, is the Reviewer Content Creator.
Agree
Yea this thing is gorgeous. And very capable ofc
As the owner of a older Mazda 3, I really enjoyed this review. My first few cars were just ok. I bought each of them because they were in my budget. Then I told myself: treat yourself with a car you truly want to have. Mazda 3, hatchback, 6-speed manual, soul red. Best decision ever. 😊
I just got the exact same car in the same color for the same exact reason about a month ago haha!
I also own a 2013 hatchback, and I'm looking to buy one of these, I also have a 2014 Focus ST to trade in on top. So I feel this might be the best of both worlds
I have a 2010 Mazdaspeed3.
but you didnt get the turbo
@@AstroZombie1 I don't want turbo, I don't need turbo. 😃
Big foot needs love too, I lol'ed on the bus to work.
I played bass for Sasquatch Hooker back in ‘87.
@@REDMAN298 And it was grand!
Have a Thumbs up just for the U.S.S. Enterprise showing up!! Mad props nerdy girl!!
Not just that, but the specific reference to how the rear of the nacelles featured holes in the TOS pilot(s) (as opposed to the spheres throughout the rest of the series)...
Mazda has always brought a blend of sport, luxury and quality in their vehicles. Fantastic in-depth review.
Literal dream car
@@christianbryant5617 a very understated vehicle. one has to know they’re looking at something well engineered. most won’t appreciate it until they take a drive.
@xrmerkur have a cx30 2022 great drive my first mazda and it handles like a dream.
@@elvinmani941 Mazda Speed should’ve developed as a mainstay. But i guess the world of crossovers had a different plan.
I remember when the smaller Mazda cars (same goes for Civic) were econoboxes. Despite the hot hatch shortcomings, the engineering in the car is great. Except for rear suspension. All cars need independent suspension.
The bar has changed for this cars. When I was growing up in the 1980s a compact car meant cheap to buy, cheap to feed, cheap to insure. It also meant the seats were milk crates with fabric stretched over them, AC that was an asthmatic blowing through a straw if the car had it, a radio that sounded like an Alexa fizzing out at the bottom of a well, playground quality interiors, and a five line feature list and zero to sixty that was better measured by an appointment calendar, than a stopwatch. Hit something at more than 20 mph and you were not walking away. In the 1990s makers decided to stop punishing the buyers of these cars and started making them bigger and nicer. Now we have the Mazda 3 turbo which can hit 60 in just over 6 seconds, is awash in soft materials, is very quiet, comes with a 12 sp sound system and a 5 star safety rating. It and its peers have become respectable small family cars with the current Civic having a larger interior than the Accord did in the 2000s and so on.
@@timgt5 I guess we’re about the same age, cause that’s how I remember ‘economy cars’ cheap vinyl, rough idling, woefully underpowered. You had to turn off the air conditioning to climb a hill, 13 in. wheels… yeah, I remember those cars.
@@timgt5 Unfortunately, they are also $40k now.
@@MuahMan according to Mazda's actual site you can get a Carbon Turbo (new for 24) for 32K, the top Premium sedan is 35K fully loaded, the hatch about a grand more. Adjusted for inflation that is not much different than a top trim Mazda Protege from the early 90s
Your vehicle reviews are the right amount of info/entertainment. Best in the biz!
I had to sell my 2020 M3 when the wife got cancer. I miss that damn car. The wife is now cancer free so it was, of course, worth it selling the car. 50 years from now I hope to be done with medical bills so I can get another M3. Great Review!
Cancer free. I love the sound of that sentence.
Medical bankruptcy?
Congrats to your wife 🙌
Goodluck with getting that next M3.
Had the first model year of the turbo for 3 months. Drove it off a mountain. Great car 10/10 would crash again. I then bought a jeep but will forever remember my time with the m3.
Wait LOLWUT please explain o_o
damn how did you survive??
@@jaeeofficial1542probably speaks to the safety rating of Mazda. Though I might of not crashed in my old WRX so idk it was a mountain gravel pass and I slid off the road down a steep hill in Colorado. Got a couple of feet of air and drove over a small tree. Got lucky because the M3 hit and was stoped by two bigger trees about 80 feet from the road.
I posted a yt short of the recovery. I have a 25 minute video of the recovery that I might edit down. The short shows how steep the mountain is but not where I landed.
Oh yeah. You'll remember your m3 every time your jeep is in the shop. 😂
I prefer the sedan version and agree that a manual AWD turbo model should be available.
yes, but also buy them. at this rate, I won''t ever be able to buy the mazda 6 wagon
Hands down still the prettiest c-segment hatch on the market today. Well done Mazda and thank you Sarah.
Mazda Speed needs to come back and make this little hatch a ripper.
OMG hahaha "wireless fruit & robot compatibility" I just absolutely love this. You just made my day. Thank you!!!
Before you commented on the boots, I was thinking the same thing. Love the reviews, always thorough, on point and entertaining with great humour.
I love my mazda 3,it's a fantastic car and feels oldscool,6speed manual is a dream to shift
My first car was a 94 Mazda protege, 4 cyl and manual transmission. That car was awesome!
Interior , fuel economy and the entertainment controls is why I bought my 19 3 sedan when it came out, great commuter vehicle
Love you Sarah, the best car reviewer on CZcams, with the best sense of humor.
Really like your positive fun energy in review!
Hanging out with Sarah with my morning coffee, Nice.
Big time!
I’m just up, coffee done!😊
Same!
What are you doing this weekend? I'm going to Tucson to see Sasquatch Hooker. They've got a new album!
I love my Celica tshirt but if you sold: "Sasquatch Hooker. Big Foot needs love too" T-shirts, I'd buy it immediately!
Bigfoot would enjoy your humor too!😄😂
Thank you for always informing and entertaining us Sarah
These got REALLY hard to find, to the point I thought they quick making this variant. Glad to see it back. My 6 has been the best car I've owned in like 35 years.
The 6 is amazing. Picked up one of the last ones, along with a CX-5 GT for the wife.
Amazing style and ultra attractive looks!
Mazda 3 is sweet too!
After watching your first review i got a 21 turbo and absolutely love it
Mazda has absolutely been killing it, the last several years. They make some of the prettiest cars around. And they're one of the few automakers not simply copying what others are building. Others are copying Mazda.
I’m a huge sucker for brands that do their own thing and ignore trends because it doesn’t align with their philosophy.
@@WARnTEA Right on. Likewise.
This is the most detailed car review I've seen so far. Amazing work!
Also just got a '21 Mazda 3 Turbo sedan so just learned a lot about my car too.
Thank you Sarah. Love your reviews, they are top notch!
Wow, so Stoaked on this review ! Spaceship diff found. You nailed the Conundrum that is the Mazda 3 AWD ! Well done. Wildcard with character, looks and brains.(Thanks for the butt confidence ) I have been driving the 2019 AWD for five years, small windows, but I've only changed the oil/filters and battery. Solid build. Sasquatch
Wonderful review - thankyou, Sarah.
Only a true TOS fan would be able to whistle the title music. Kudos!
I bought a new Mazda 3 hatch 10 or 12 yrs ago. Loved the way it drove. zoom zoom
The mud wasps are gonna love those torque vector blocky things.
As Mr. Regular once said, “no highs, no lows, it must be Bose”.
Buy Other Sound Equipment
@@CGallProductions BOSE systems COST EXTRA $$$ You should NOT have to go out and by another stereo system.
@@RRr-yl8zr it’s an acronym joke.
The Bose sound system really demonstrates the type of audience Mazda's really aiming for here: all flash no substance. Oodles of torque but horrible visibility, premium-looking materials but turns out to be fake leather, high price but still with torsion beam suspension, list goes on.
I had a 2006 Mazdaspeed hatchback in silver for over ten years! I miss that car and the seats were real sport seats with great bolstering.
Mazda makes some of the best silver colors! Better than BMW and I’m a beemer fanboy too haha
Great video! To be honest, from the thumbnail, I thought people were watching for your looks at first, but this is a way more in depth review than I've seen from anyone else! I love the non-conventional but pertinent info and your humor mixed in!
Loved the nimble Road Runner swerve test 🙂
My favourite time of year for car reviews!!
Great review as always Sarah! ❤
I swear the induction growl is straight from the other side of the firewall.
Sarah's review of this model three years ago inspired the purchase of a sedan version. But then I saw Gump's super cool Nurburgring decal, so I put a Laguna Seca sticker on the rear quarter window, in honor of the old Mazda Raceway ...
Love my grand Mazda 3 6 speed manual. Its really fun to drive and very economical on gas. I was super happy to see them offer an AWD version Mazda 3. I wish I had that one up here in the north.
I saw Sasquatch Hooker when they played at the Fillmore West back in 1997. Stiletto Driving Boots was the opening act.
Just bought this picking it up Tuesday. So stoked
Wow , you’re my go to car reviewer! You know more about cars than the manufacturers! Keep up the amazing honest content, from Canada 🇨🇦
Another stunning outfit !
Mazda just keep rolling them out since the advent of the 323. I've owned 4 of those and 2 MPVs. Thanks for the review, Sarah.
Had a first year 2012 SkyActiv HB with 6 speed. Badass car. Got rid of it with 140,000 (never a single issue just routine maintenance). What a FUN car it was.
Would you buy a another Mazda 3 ??? Sedan or Hatch AWD or FWD Manual transmission or Automatic???
@@derekgaliee4351 personally I prefer the 6-speed manual. Even lacking the turbo it's much more fun to drive. I also always go for the hatchback. It has more style than the sedan and the hatch makes it easy to load/unload larger items. We have a 2018 CX-9 with 112,000 mi. Same with it. Just regular maintenance. We also have a 2015 Miata retractable hardtop. It only has 30,000 mi. Garage queen.
@derekgaliee4351 Mazda 3 HB with the 6 speed. It will be our next car since we will soon be empty nesters and no longer will have use for our CX9...
@@greatdimitri1049 Okay 👍☺️
I loved that about my Mazda3 turbo, lift of the throttle and it had a hint of oversteer, made it lots of fun
I do really like Mazda styling in general and that one can actually get colors in the interiors. Maybe “BEET” is a reference to the interior leather color? 😉. Loved the Trek reference. Great review and pure class wardrobe. Thank you as always, Sarah. 👍👍👍
You do tech specifications so well!
This is just the review I was looking for!
Thanks Sarah! Great review
I've detailed a few Mazdas and got to drive them... nice cars, but their paintwork is some of the thinnest I've measured with my paint gauge. If you own a Mazda or are considering getting one, I would suggest getting paint protection film on the front end, getting it professionally detailed and ceramic-coated to protect the paint!
Solid upsell 🤣💀
Yep, I’ve got a 2020 Miata and the paint chips SOOOOOO easily 😭
I have the 2023 Mazda 3 hatch NA with the 6MT. I love it. So comfortable and handles well for what it is. However, there are times I wish it was lighter and RWD. But that is why I also own a Miata. No complaints here with either vehicles. Thanks again for your awesome car reviews!
Older American cars had the wiper squirters in the wiper arms, my 70’s full size Chevies were that way and my 1994 Buick Roadmaster was the last one I had that way . Everyone puts them in the hood or under the back of the hood area.
I love the Red interior color, my Impala was red interior, wish I could have gotten Red in my new Ridgeline, not many manufacturers do red anymore . Great review
I am always watching Mazda. I have a last gen 3 hatch and they are such amazing cars.
I hope Sarah continues to develop her skills and bringing them to life for our entertainment and more importantly automotive education. Words have more leverage more torque when the person turning them has actually turned a wrench.
Love that you reviewed this. Mazda's been making some great cars for those of us without superyachts. 👍
Great review and video, as always. Probably my favourite car reviewer and builds.
I’m pretty sure the induction/engine sounds are played over the stereo, prob the centre and foot speakers- Bose just programmed and tuned it really really convincingly.
I think the stereo is more than capable- it’s probably my favourite part of the car tbh.
I would check the audio settings…
Cheers
uniquely phenomenal review
so nice to see Sarah enjoy producing these vehicle reviews. . . and we get a wildlife count included. Hot hoops by the way. 👍
Great review as always! Definitely rocking the outfit and boots😊
I love your jokes/sense of humor 10/10
Great review, Sarah.
The BEET goes on (Beverly Hills) and its the Best Energy Evacuation Thermal material available today! 🌬️
By the way, Sarah, I am watching this video of you opinion this car today because I want to go shopping for one. I am impressed. Thanks for all the information you are awesome.
Thanks!
Also for giving us the fuel economy values in l/100km.
I'm pretty pleased with my 2l manual drive base trim sedan and I agree with your conclusions.
(It's holding itself well after 3 years.)
Great vid. Sarah!
Live long and prosper
OMG, first time watching your channel and I already fell in love with… …this car!❤
People always sleep on the cheapest and most reliable version of this car, FWD MT NA. Still plenty fast, about 7% lighter than the 4WD AT. Car's actually still very easy to drive without the rear diff.
I like the picture in picture format in the driving review..
Sarah. You got grace and style. Love the grey.
You got the exact color option I’ve been looking for but can’t find for this car. Looks great.
Two words: Dealer Trade. If it's in stock elsewhere, a competent dealer would trade it for something in their stock (all behind-the-scenes).
Amazing was looking at one in the grocery store parking lot
Thought maybe it's time to trade in my Chrysler Crossfire 6 speed .thanks young lady you answered all my questions. 😊
Big foot needs love ❤... lol lol... Love it.
Mazda produce great cars. I was lucky to own two MX5's and they were fantastic fun, especially throwing into corners. Great review as always.
The Mazda 3 is the best compact car on the market!!! But, like most of us... if it only had 2 more inches in the back seat.
really like these cars. they feel like something an enthusiast could really get into, and make some fun upgrades to over time.
You mere mortals will never experience what it's like to chuck a car around like Sarah can... 💃...😍 that is Right
Ha ha. I say that all the time too, the number one cost cutting thing is the holder for the sunglasses.
We used to have a cloverleaf on which I once chucked the tail out on a 5k pound 104 in. wheel based 4wd the entire way. That lsd was a must have. The heavy duty handling package had a beefy sway bar with quad shocks. If these modern vehicles offer any performance enhancements do it. I loved the ability it had to do a 180 at speed and parallel park on the opposite side of the street.
Ok
As a Mazda owner I loved this review.... but I love all your reviews!
Actually a great car in that awesome red!
That was fun! Thanks
love the mazda3. i have a ‘23 premium with the mt 🥰 the exact same colors as the one you reviewed, too😛
Love the Sarah - n - Tuned Reviews... How Could You Not?. Sarah's better than my Internist on an Annual Physical exam. Sarah is much more thorough sticking and pointing around everything, and describing it all to you! And a lot Prettier too, which would demand more regular Health Checks with Dr. Sarah. Great job as always, Sarah.
TBH, I wouldn't want my internist taking a caliper to my intestines for an annual exam.
for anyone curious about the Mazda 3 hatch i do own a carbon turbo model and ive loved it. ive put on about 15k miles n it and yeah some things are short comings, but its not a race car but a more beginner sports car/ hot hatch. HOWEVER Mazda is coming out with a Spirit Racing Mazda 3 AND Rx twin that's more geared to track/GT3; now that's going to be curious car to review and see what they have changed to make it track orientated
Hi Sarah!...great video thanks!🌻🐧
Nice video and the best mechanical review I've seen of the car. I have a 23 Turbo sedan and I have to say that I haven't seen the issue you describe with driving the car at speed. I've found it to be incredibly stable, no matter how hard I toss it into a corner. I wonder if somehow the extra length of the sedan contributes to that.
Happy Friday Eve Sarah!!!😎
I was considering buying one of these...until I took it on a test drive around the DC beltway. Your comment about high speed stability is spot on. I don't know what is going on but quick moves too avoid Maryland drivers at speeds in excess of the speed limit (because who drives that around here) seem to really freak the car out. It's just a really off platform. I wanted to like it because it looks SO GREAT.
Love that grey color
l like the color. I'd drive it. Also, I love how you always match the cars!
Great review! I have to check and see if heated seats and steering wheel are avail or optional in Canada. Cheers from West Coast Canada!
Bought my Turbo Premium Plus in 2021 and I love it.
Great car made better with Corksport’s SRI+Tip combined with their cat back exhaust. The front strut bar tightens up the front a little. Waiting on their rear sway bar to come back in stock - hopefully that will make the body roll better. Great review as always - thank you!
I love your reviews with the funny comments! I never seen a roadrunner before except in cartoons...lol
Love that they just keep improving that 2.5 turbo
I miss driving a Zoom-Zoom car (2004 Mazda3). It's nice that Mazda is making their vehicles more upscale/look more luxurious but is still reliable.
The basic design has been around a while now, but unlike other traditional designed cars isn't looking as tired, but lets see what they do with the redesign.
