This theme is so perfect for the plot of Halo. It’s a story about humanities struggle against aliens. What is more human than Gregorian chants that are specifically made from human voices.
Couldn't have said it any better 💯💯💯💯
The gregorian hymn is what un-translated Prophets sound like. Go back and listen to that clip in Halo 2.
If you notice halo uses Gregorian chants and tribal war drums instead of the usual rock and synth wave like usual sci fi. It shows even though humanity is primitive compared to the covenant we together our ancient histories of wars has prepared us for this fight.

This is how the Word was shared before the advent of microphones and speakers. This is the original surround sound.
Master masons didn't build for capacity and beauty-- they also built for sound to travel through the whole building, to every attendee.
All of those old churches/cathedrals have a "home tone" built into the stone and wood. Ever sung in the shower and suddenly hit a note which resonated throughout the whole room? This is the same thing on a much grander scale.
There is always a place in the old churches which I call the fulcrum of sound, the place where all the angles and spaces shape the sound and bring it back to the origin of that sound-- the sound is made whole, with over- and undertones, rich and compelling. These monks are standing at the fulcrum in that church; any sound (especially Gregorian/Russian chant, which is made specifically for these spaces) will return to the listener complete.
If you are ever in an old church or cathedral, try it yourself-- you will be amazed at what you hear!
I feel like I just got hit in the face by talent.

Imagine walking past a church or monastery and hearing this. Pure chills 🤯
There is something about the acoustics of classic churches out of stone or brick - which is of course not not random in any way.
First time I visited England I walked past a village church, on my way to some shops, and heard the choir inside practicing Amazing Grace. It was on the same time just so fitting so much a cliche it just checked so many boxes, like it was just out of portrait of how a English village is supposed to be.
Bring back Tradition!
@@bzdtemp that's incredible
This is what most modern churches don't get. Strumming a guitar and singing a pop song about how great Jesus is doesn't bring anyone into the church at all.
