  • This is high quality archival footage of Halo gameplay on the original Xbox; available recordings seem to be low quality. Ports to other devices removed or altered the game's original sound and lighting, among other things. The Xbox can't quite maintain 30 fps, hence frame pacing issues, but 60fps recording was chosen for its higher CZcams bitrate. An SSD was installed to minimize load times and pop-in.
Note that this footage has a slight greenish cast and some artifacts, which wouldn't be visible with the standard Xbox cable (composite). This is because I chose to record in Full RGB (0-255) with later conversion to the 709 color space from an original component cable. The combination seems to offer better lighting / contrast (Limited RGB results in black level crush) and great sharpness. Overall, game asset visibility was prioritized.
    SHOWN HERE:
Halo menu screen, idle menu trailer 1, idle menu trailer 2.
Recorded through the following signal chain:
    Xbox 1.4 + SSD + Mods ~ Original Component Cable ~ OSSC 480p / 2x Line Doubling ~ Capture Card (1440x1080 canvas resolution)
I will show an mClassic in the signal chain at some point.

I used to sit and listen to the music and watch the trailers every day before playing the game
They were as much a part of my childhood as the game was.
Thank you for preserving this in high quality, i greatly appreciate it c:

What can i say, masterpiece of a game. Trailers, gameplay and music speak for themselves.
