  • Nancy Brophy was an unsuccessful author, but a very successful killer. She was married to Dan Brophy for many years, but when he turned up dead, maybe Nancy read too much into her own books and fantasies.

I'm only in a couple a minutes, but I wanted to say that when I was a 13 to 17 year old street kid in Portland, the culinary school would feed as many kids as they could breakfast out the back door. A lot of times it would be the only hot meal you'd get. That was back in the late eighties and now a couple a days after my fiftieth birthday I'm sad to hear that covid killed it. At a time when no one seemed to care and good memories were few and far in between, I could look for a smile and a caring word from those folks plus a good meal. They instilled in me the realization that even now I don't have much, but those who have nothing still deserve a hot meal and kindness without judgement.

I've noticed that every video about Daniel Brophy has comments from former students or friends, talking about what a great teacher and friend he was, and how much they miss him.
It really speaks volumes to the kind of person he was.
His wife, on the other hand, clearly couldn't handle being such a mediocre person with a failing writing career, a shopping addiction, and a dull life (as she saw it.)
Instead of being thankful for having a husband like Daniel, she killed him in order to have a more exciting life. I think she wanted the attention and sympathy, and was jealous of Daniel's achievements.
She couldn't face up to how mediocre she was. She was a failed writer and blew through their savings, and was too much of a coward to take responsibility for what she had done.
    Absolutely pathetic.
Rest in Peace, Daniel. You deserved so much better ❤️

I forget who said those words, but perhaps you should take heed. A writer will always believe their work can be improved; that “one more pass should do it”
Eventually you need to step away and send it out into the world as is. If it is rejected, you can always take another crack at it, but you need to just close your eyes and leap or you will only ever be “aspiring”.

I'm really impressed with this episode. I knew Dan Brophy, and I've watched a lot of true crime channels cover this case. You did the best I've seen so far. The footage that you used of the school is unique, and it really helps set the scene. You also really captured Dan's personality. I've seen too many channels pull the "he was so kind he was so beloved gone too soon TOO SOON" routine. Yes, he could be very kind. He was also a grumpy old goblin man, and that's a huge part of why people loved him, thank you for making that clear. There's another thing going on here that I really admire, and I didn't realize it was missing from the other productions I saw on this case. This blew up because she wrote mystery books, and I haven't seen anyone else cover her books. WOW they are bad. I kept pausing to read what you put up, and there was a paragraph I had to read three times before I could start to interpret it. That's just been missing from all of the videos I've seen on Dan and Nancy. Can you imagine loving someone enough to read that and tell them it's good? It makes the betrayal sting that much worse.
Edit: Nancy is super lucky. In Oregon, we tend to clothe lady prisoners in sort of hospital scrubs in a drab denim blue. No orange jumpsuit for you, Nan!

it's crazy to me that she killed him for money because they were broke. In her eyes, being able to stay home while her husband works and having a wholeass house is being broke. Instead of saving their money and be grateful, she wanted more and more for herself. She is so evil and was with the sweetest man. I hope she's at a place where no one can fuel her narcissism.
