It’s like they’ve become so desensitized to seemingly random crimes that they don’t think about the fact that the victim was a real human being in the given situation & that there’s no other person who could have committed the crime. My theory:
Toby HATED Robert, he wanted his position within the company so he would be the right hand man & call most of the shots. He was always trying to get Robert fired or in trouble. However, he knew that would never happen because he is the owner’s son. So when Toby found out about the kidnapping insurance, either from Robert’s joke or snooping around, he thought that this was his chance. He could kill Robert, take his place & make a lot of money to boot. Remember, the kidnapper asked for the exact amount of the policy payout. The reason the kidnapper never came for the $ is because Toby knew that the police were involved. This wasn’t a heat of the moment, snapped like manslaughter. It was 100% premeditated murder. He would’ve gotten away with it to if it hadn’t been for those pesky surveillance cameras.

It was obvious they had been taken secretly and over multiple days. He had been hiding out in the parking garage taking pictures of her whenever she left and returned, which was usually around the same times. The police only found this out because the guy had a medical emergency while he was waiting for her to come out. They figured out pretty fast that he was part of a human trafficking ring. I would have to quit my job to hunt around for him, and it would be a whole ordeal... Ugh. Scares the crap out of me. I always imagine having to give a press conference about it and deciding whether to be aggressive about it for the comfort of the victim potentially watching, or trying to not alarm the perp into killing him.
I think it's very unlikely as he seldomly leaves the house, but I still worry about it lol. And before someone tells me I shouldn't watch crime if I have that bad of OCD, if it weren't this it would be some other method of something happening to my family, so quitting crime wouldn't help (before this I was afraid of my other partner having a police encounter as he's schizophrenic and we live in the US where cops shoot mentally ill people right away).

I think one of the most incriminating points in this video is Toby's discussion with the '48 Hours Mystery' correspondent. There's no frustration or anger in his denial of killing Robert, or being involved in his disappearance. He denies being involved with all the passion of answering a question like... "Did you eat the last piece of cake," (which it appears he did!) Anyone innocently held in prison for over a decade would use that 48 Hours appearance as an opportunity to show how serious and desperate he is to be heard in an effort to convince anyone with the ability to help him to reach out and offer their assistance. Instead, he almost casually repeats the word "absolutely" 4 times in 4 statements and sounds as blase' as someone reading the small print of a bad warranty. The only thing this guy is saying is that they can't "prove" he did it, which is a far cry from the anger, fear, and desperation you'd hear from a person who's been wrongly accused, especially of murder! It is ok to rest more, and you may need more nurturing and comfort. Remember to take care of you anyway, with water, food, comforting, nurturing. Say what you need to, to others, yourself, and your loved ones.
Grief sux, and it comes in layers. You may need comfort from an animal, friends, finding enjoyment again. Your loved ones would want you to be ok and eventually thrive again.
I am sorry for your losses. It is normal to struggle while grieving, but I hope you can find some ways to reach out, let it out, heal, and live again. It can be helpful to find something that comforts you or brings you joy.

#4 demand of the ransom note: " Instruct someone you trust to place the box unopened in your sons office. "
the kidnapper/murderer assumed he would be the trusted person chosen for this task. there is no other explanation why they would choose that location for the drop. Thats why he also instructed Roberts dad to ship the package and tell nobody, so he wouldnt see his "trusted person" walk off with the ransom box.

Good point. Makes a lot of sense to me when said that way. I thought it was oddly specific, I mean look- whoever it was; knew the office, knew the specific rooms of the office and or coming and going of people as to not be like totally random dude runs in and takes the kid hostage with lots of witnesses. So there’s that already, and if he disappeared with no trace? No evidence at all? No blood no other fingerprints found?? Then that says 1- has to be someone who was already working in the building and 2- someone he knew as he must have walked out or gone with the person by his own will at first…
      Crazy.

When you blow up at someone, you tend to be out of control, you'll tend to be messy, as you are unprepared for what you're doing. Robert's office was pristine and not a single speck of blood could be found. This tells me there was no fight, no struggle. He probably got Robert to step out of the office or something, and chloroformed him to neutralize him. He probably killed him somewhere else, and used the purchased plastic and duct tape to wrap up the body and disposed of it god's knows where in that 3-4 hours he's unaccounted for.
