If your interested in more Charlie Danial's his version of Simple man is a place to start. He also put out abit of Gospel in his later years. Now for even better music check out American Blue grass. A good place to start with Blue grass is Patty Loveless you'll never leave Harlan alive. Her live version where she gives some of her family back ground will make it easier to understand for those without knowledge of the coal fields or Appalachians. In case I sound mean or presumptuous I have to my shock ran across video's of reactors who didn't understand what she was talking about. I've learned not to take it for granted. Also Bill Monroe,Ralph Stanley and Ricky Skaggs are worth listening to.
I'm a new sub. You are absolutely adorable ❤
Much fun watching your reactions to these songs. You're authentic!
Charlie didn't simply play the fiddle. He made it jump up and dance.
Dang! You're right! I never thought about it, but it's kinda like watching Jim Henson on late night back in the day with one of the Muppets. The puppet in his hand was always fully alive, even when Jim was answering a question as himself
If its a classical piece, its a violin. If its a country song, its a fiddle!
Charlie was an American singer, musician & songwriter. His career spanned over 5 decades. His music covered a lot of different genres including southern & country rock, country, bluegrass, blues & gospel. He was best known for this number-one country hit "The Devil Went Down To Georgia". Some of his other songs were "Uneasy Rider", "The South's Gonna Do It Again", "Long Haired Country Boy", "In America", "The Legend Of Wooley Swamp", "Still In Saigon" etc.
One of the best fiddle players ever.. and one of my favorite country artists. RIP Charlie Daniels, an absolute legend
"Still in Saigon" deserves more coverage than it gets.
I was fortunate to get to see one of his final concerts at a free event in Lewisburg TN at the Goats Music and More Festival and let me tell you even though he was 75 he could still rock that fiddle and yes I have never seen that park packed so much with people
I got to spend a few minutes talking with him at Twin Pines during relief efforts after the March 2020 Tornado. He seemed to truly care about his community and it's people.
I live in the Appalachian mountains of NC, not to far from TN. This is where Charlie got his base sound. I couldn't have made better suggestions on the songs, but I would add Carolina.
I have a Charlie Daniels story.
A friend of mine who lives in Nashville and a friend of his visiting from out of state were playing golf at a local Nashville golf course. They rounded the 9th hole and my friend looked over and saw Charlie and a young boy playing a few holes behind them. They thought it was cool, but continued to play. They finish and head into the club house to grab some beers.
Some time later, Charlie and his grandson come into the club house. My friend asks Charlie how his golf game went and they talked about golf for a few minutes. Charlie then saunters up to the bar, orders a Diet Coke for himself and a Coke for his grand kid, then turns around, points at my friend and his friend and tells the bartender; "Them boys look thirsty. Get them one of whatever they're drinking." My friend and his buddy thank Charlie and order two more beers. Charlie then lays a $100 bill on the bar, says goodby and walks out.
My friend asks the bartender if Charlie paid for that with a $100, and she says yes, he does that all the time.
Now my friend gets to tell people that Charlie Daniels bought him a beer once.
Your assessment was correct. When this song is played in certain settings, people loose their shit and sing and dance having a good time.
Something you might appreciate: the American gymnast Dominique Moceanu, whose parents are both Romanian-American, performed her floor routine to "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. It blew the roof off every time she did it.
This song was a monster when it first hit...it's still a CLASSIC...❤!!!
Music and concerts and legends like Charlie are now sadly gone. But never Forgotten.
This came out in 1979 and is still played on both classic country and classic rock radio stations today. Charlie Daniels is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and we lost him in 2020. Great musician, singer and songwriter. Great reaction. You can classify this as country music or Southern Rock.
Bisscute - I enjoyed your journey with this song. Your facial expressions told a story. The journey I watched was initial curiosity, then questioning, to anticipation, surprise, confusion, then understanding and finally joy and happiness with what you just experienced. I wish all young people would experience these emotions as they listen to those "old time" classics (which to me was coming of age music). Keep on Keeping On as we use to say.
THIS!! My thoughts exactly.
If story telling is your thing, I recommend a dive into classic country as a whole.
That's one of those songs when it came out. It crossed over every music lovers taste from Metal to classical. Just a great song for everyone.
This song crossed genres. There were probably as many 'rockers' in the crowd as there were cowboys. I know...I was one of the rockers at his show in Houston, Texas.
My favorite song from this band is "The Legend Of Wooley Swamp"....really good groove and creepy story.
Sweet!
yep, a very dark one for sure but would agree it is pretty awesome, about the same here as far as good storytelling through music
Absolutely loved watching you enjoy this song live for the first time. Charlie Daniels was an American National Treasure and we are a darker place without him. Rest In Peace
I think it's a beautiful thing to see people from different ages of different backgrounds reacting to the music I grew up to
I grew up in the South this song is a nearly gospel well that and A Country Boy Can Survive
Thank you so much for your wonderful reaction! If you like to react to more Charlie Daniels, give " drinkin my baby goodbye" a listen.
Careful, sven - you're gonna turn her into a country music fan. That's an amazing jam!
Don't worry 😂
"Sittin on a bar stool, actin' like a durn fool- that's what I'm a-doin today! LOVE that line.
Best Concert Ever.... Charlie Daniels Band and Lynard Skynyrd!!
Thank you for this reaction it was beautiful watching you enjoy this so much. Especially enjoying it when you realize the devil got his ass beat. Thanks again take care.
Your reaction to this song was WONDERFUL. Your face just BEAMED as the song kicked up. LOVE IT!!
Other Charlie Daniels Band story songs you might enjoy (and have probably been suggested by others already): "The Legend of Wooly Swamp" and "Uneasy Rider"
There is a part 2 to this song were the Devil comes back for revenge. It's really good. Johnny has to teach his son to play to ward off the Devil.
That's cool never new that. I'll check it out thanks😊
It features Johnny Cash, Travis Tritt, Marty Stuart, with Mark O'Connor on fiddle
@@tgwife1964 Indeed
One of the best country/rock songs EVER!!!!!!!❤❤
I saw Charlie Daniels (R.I.P.) live when I was about ten years old. I grew up listening to Charlie Daniels. He was a great man, great musician & he loved America. So many great songs...his music is fantastic. Try "Long Haired Country Boy", one of my personal favorites but he really is his own genre and yes he was the best fiddle player in the world.
You’d also like the Marshall Tucker Band. On their live album, Where We All Belong, Charlie Daniels sits in on “24 Hours at a Time”, one of the greatest “Road Tunes” of all time. Love your reactions!✌️❤️🎶
Marcus King Band, too.
Absolutely! That's a great song. The live, black and white video of "Can't You See?" (one of my top 3 all-time favorite songs) is awesome as well. "I Should have Never Started Loving You" features some TASTY sax, and one of Toy Caldwell's best guitar solos, - plus Doug really goes for it on the vocal as well.
👋biss, I'm far from a country music fan BUT this is such a good fun story/music toe tapping song, brings that happy smile after hearing it.
I'm not much of a country fan either, but that period right around 1980 or so when this came out, there were some pretty rockin' country tunes that everybody could get behind. This is right up there.
Anybody remember John Stewart "Gold"? Forgotten classic.
This was a genre called country-rock which appeared in the 1970s and was featured on both country and rock stations.
No one plays a fiddle like Charlie!
Charlie left us way to soon! Seen them in concert a lot of times never a disappointment!!
"The South's Gonna Do It, Again". Great song by The CDB, that doesn't get played much.🔥💯👍
I don't care what I'm doing or where I'm at, this song comes on, and you stop and sing LOL! Sincerely, an American Southerner 😀
Glad you enjoyed this
Wilmington, North Carolina's native son, he ended up moving to the Nashville, Tennessee area in 1967, living about 10 miles from where I was born. I saw Charlie twice in concert and to this day was some of my more favorite shows. If it has Strings on it Charlie could play it with performance.
Strongly recommend looking into some "bluegrass music". Tends to be more "folks art" sound, but often with a FAST tempo and normally a good portion of "story telling" to go along with it.
A genre of music that more or less came about due to people living without power and having to entertain themselves the "old fashioned way" by family members playing different instruments, singing, or just dancing. It has a large influence on "Country" and "Rock", because it is often considered to be a "pure" form of music. No electronics (other than speakers and mics) with no "thrills" (such as studio production tricks or "backing tracks"), and is still something that you can basically pick up any instrument and join in without being too over-bearing to the others in the group.
"The Legend of Wooly Swamp" by CDB would be great for Halloween.
I always considered their exit off stage in this video the fastest in music history.
Charlie Daniels: "Goodnight!" 🏃♂
A "Country Girl Biss" is always a good thing, thanks for sharing your Smiles once again, many blessings Ms. Biss....
"The Souths gonna do it again." Great CDB song
Johnny beat that devil's butt! Great song.
Bisscute, I am SUCH a fan of yours. I LOVE your reactions.
Thank u biss. That was awesome great reaction. I bet u would be fun to go dancing with. Thanks again. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A live performance I know you will enjoy would be the Moody Blues "nights in white satin" .
Most all of Charlie's songs tell great stories, & his fiddle (violin with metal strings, rather than catgut or synthetic) playing is just amazing! Thanks for your reaction.
Got to see him in a private event. Loved it.
The Great Charlie,he was a very good musician RIP
Charlie was truly one of the best. He could literally wear out 2 bows during a concert.
always late doing treatment I see it when I can great video cheers me up best regards from Uruguay 🤟🤘😎
Such a beautiful smile. The devil went down to georgia and dropped to his knees.
I literally just subscribed and I see this. That's one of my all-time favorites!
I lived in upstate NY and was at that show, one of my favorites.
As ever, your smiles says it all, no words really needed.
Right after this performance on their way from NY to Alabama. Their bus broke down and my dad (worked for a bus charter company) was called at 2 in the morning to drive the band to Alabama. Willie Nelson has nothing on the smoke that happens on their bus.
Loved this reaction! You are too cute. We need to get you a pair of boots and a cowboy hat and teach you the cotton eye joe. 🤠 The legend of Wooley Swamp is another good story teller from CDB. Charlie plays several different instruments. He's well known for playing the fiddle but he's an awesome guitarist as well as mandolin and banjo.
I would say there are many songs of his you would love listening to, but will suggest just a few. The Legend of Wooley Swamp, In America, Uneasy Rider, Boogie Woogie Fiddle Blues, The Souths Gonna Do It Again, Long Haired Country Boy and I'm A Simple Man or Even Cowboy's Like A Little Rock N Roll are among his best known songs. The Charlie Daniels Band were known as a Southern Rock Band by most but blended Country, Rock, and Bluegrass for a Eunique style and sound all their own.
Biss, a couple of other older story songs you'll probably enjoy, "Come a Little Bit Closer" by Jay and the Americans from 1964, and "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" by the Hollies from 1972, both fun and upbeat.
Charlie did a follow up years later (with Country Legend Johnny Cash) called "the Devil comes back to Georgia", and there was a spoof song done called "the Devil went down to Jamaica" (about a pot dealer selling Marijuana).
YES!!! Now look for the sequel : The Devil Came Back To Georgia.
It is credited under Mark O'Connor with guest performances by Johnny Cash (narrator), Marty Stuart (Johnny), Travis Tritt (the Devil), and I think Charlie Daniels does some fiddle work too.
absolutely correct with your comment on your first pause. I've had the pleasure of seeing CDB 3 times live and when the Devil come....it's a PARTY!!!
Watching your facial expressions added to the enjoyment. You remind me of a
girl friend I'd watch movies with, it was almost as much fun at watching her react
than the movie itself! Such joy!
Your analysis of it was also good, you didn't overdo it either.
When you decide to have children, you'd be a great Mom sharing the child's joys
and maybe brief sorrows. In you, I see pure honesty. Thanks.
Great reaction as usual Miss Bisscute, love your smile and facial expressions during the reactions, you are so cute Madalina💓. Thanks for this one i didn't know the band but i like it.👍
If you want to hear awesome stories from these good ole boys, you MUST check out :
- The Legend Of Wooley Swamp
- Uneasy Rider (At The Dewdrop Inn)
- Uneasy Rider (At The Rainbow Bar & Grill) (Uneasy Rider `88)
The Uneasy Rider songs are hilarious.
Wooley Swamp is scary scary.. maybe too scary for Bisscute? 😛
I had the pleasure of seeing the CDB a few years before Charlie passed. Great show
Recommend: The Marshall Tucker Band. Song is Heard It in a Love Song.😊
This song was actually edited at the time for most radio stations to say "Son of a gun" instead of S.O .B. Kids loved the songs that had swear words in them for some excuse to let it slip.
I saw them years ago (1983). lol Great band!
Your energy even makes country music better awesome reaction
Great reaction! I was fortunate to see Charlie Daniels live in concert more than once. I also saw him play unannounced at a local park. He just pulled up in his bus and set up some equipment on a small stage and started playing. The guy was legendary in his career as a musician, but equally as a good human.
Charlie Daniels was primarily identified as a fiddle player, but he was equally skilled on guitar, banjo, and mandolin.
Diana Ankudinova has released a new song! There are not enough words to describe the feeling of flight that this song gives.
Diana Ankudinova - The Day You...
A surprise awaits you!
Biss it made me laugh when you said you like his accent because it's exactly like mine 😂 here in the South we play this song at our BBQ's. You'd love the culture here. Very laid back!!
I've seen Charlie Daniel's in concert twice. Amazing performer!
Thank u biss for doing this reaction. It was my favorite when I was a teen. Can’t wait to watch it.
This song is sort of foundational to American folk music. Glad you enjoyed it.
Excited to see this reaction
Hence, the saying the show must go on
Broken arm, no arm, just keep on going
Great reaction
Loved the reaction. It really is fun song.
If you like the story telling, then a must react to is "Uneasy Rider" by Charlie Daniels.
I got to see Charlie Daniels play in around 1985. I hadn't been around fiddle playing and fount it interesting how intense playing would create a fog of rosin (I think). Was a wonderful night.
The difference between a violin and a fiddle is that a violin has strings and a fiddle has strangs
Thank you for making an old man smile and tap his feet! Be safe and be happy!!! I must admit, you always make me smile!
Thank you, I will
Recently, I was inspired to make a [very simple] parody of this song; it was interesting that you are listening to it now.
Country music is not my preference, but living in the US, there are two songs that are ubiquitous. The Devil came down to Georgia and Dueling banjos. You will hear them at leas partially in TV shows, movies, direct and indirect references, they're so happy music, they're used in multiple places.
Charlie and his band were just great musicians and stage performers. They blended Country, Bluegrass, Blues, Southern Rock and Gospel into a very distinctive sound that was amazing. Rest in peace, Charlie.
Hi . . . just wondering if you'd like to be introduced to The Electric Light Orchestra ( E L O ) . . . they're a rock band that were huge in the 70's, and still active. The first E L O 'track' was called 10538 Overture (it is a rock song). I think this is the best way to start, from the beginning and building to their most famous hits. Bit of history . . . E L O was founded by Roy Wood, Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan. Roy Wood was in a band called The Move with Bev Bevan on drums, Jeff was in the Idle Race. They joined forces to create the new band, but Roy left very shortly after the 1st album was released and Jeff Lynne became the full creative force for what E L O would become. . . . . be warned, once you start reacting to ELO you will get swamped with suggestions. Have fun. Thanks for the genuine reactions to great music that I have watched so far.
One of the greatest songs ever. Charlie was a beast on the fiddle.
Its an amazing song
Charlie was a stellar human being. RIP.
I saw the CDB in 1979, Cleveland, Ohio during this tour. It was the "Million Mile Reflection" Tour and they brought down the house when Charlie broke out his fiddle and played this......I'll never forget it. Thanks "B"!
My pleasure , glad you liked it
Meeting him was like meeting your long lost grandpa. He was a great guy
I saw Charlie several times and he always put on a great show.
It´s good to see them do that live, but check out the studio version, it´s much clearer and more refined.
I've wached several reactions to this song, but yours is by far the best. You understood everything and reacted like an angel.
Great reaction
Made me happy to see the grin on her face about 4 seconds after Charlie started playing!
Had the pleasure of seeing Charlie Daniels several times. They never disappointed!
Love your reaction to the video. You my what to try simple man by Charlie Daniel's band . 🤠
I saw them in california in the eighties and they were fantastic, RIP....CHARLIE.
Lucky enough to have lived in the same area as Charlie D and have seen him play quite a few times. Watching him absolutely shred his fiddle or guitar live and close up was an amazing and thrilling experience. Dont yall forget about all the years he hosted the Volunteer Jam either, with musicians of all genres showing up!!! Not uncommon for The Nuge to show up, playing with his buddy Charlie D!!! What a great music time we've lived in!!
I saw Charlie Daniels live twice in my life, and every time was a great show. He was a very talented musician who knew how to connect with his audience. So glad you have discovered him.
technically it's a violin but in country music it's called a fiddle. A classical violin player will typically use gut or synthetic-core strings, while fiddle players usually use steel strings, due to their sharper sound.
Not true. A violin does use synthetic core strings. But a fiddle uses strangs.
When I was in my 20s, I worked for a concert production company, and Charlie Daniels was one of the artist performing at a large show, and I got to sit with him and talk, he was a very nice man, very genuine and generous. Ill never forget him.
Long hair country boy is one of my favorites!
Great reaction Biss! Charlie and the band were great to see live. RIP Mr. Daniels, we miss the greatest fiddle player of all time.
Legend of Wooley Swamp and Simple Man are my favorites
