When Danny Carey , Doanne Perry drummer for Jethro Tull , Chad Smith , Taylor Hawkins, Stewart Copland drummer for the police plus many others come to his last show and stand off the side beside him you know he is very important in the drum world , important but extremely humble
Taylor Hawkins presented Rush into the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame in 2013
This man singlehandedly created more drummers than anyone. Tho it's second hand, I wouldn't play if my father didn't play & he wouldn't have started with out the GOAT. 🤘🔥
@@FUBAR1986 yes and he was so happy jumping up and down like a little kid , Greg Bissonet was a great friend of Neil also , he told stories on how the would just hang out and jam together, then go by @ lake and just talk for hours
You did good, you left out Ian Paice and Buddy Rich
He was, is and always will be the GOAT of DRUMMING
True
not forever, forever.... but a good loooong while
Neil is a legend, but the goat is Buddy
He's not a drummer, he's a Percussionist.
Thank you for saying it. I have been saying it for years to my friends. Bonham is the best drummer. Peart the Percussionist
I love watching people react to this performance!! RIP Professor...
Greatest of ALL TIME! ... RIP Neil Peart .. we miss you!
🇨🇦 You have witnessed the Greatest Drummer the World has ever seen !
Prove me wrong ! 🇨🇦
no his idol buddy rich is the greatest nothing against neil it is what it is !
Chad got done his Solo and Neil was last. He said to Chad, can't you hit it harder! Or something to that effect. czcams.com/video/Xck26sQHEnU/video.htmlsi=BjTXrxkaX5uhXxEs
@@JoeCruz-hs2yt Yeah Buddy is a GOAT
Neil had the flu for this performance and still gave us one of the greatest drum solos ever recorded. What a beast
He's not just crisscrossing, he's doing it right hand over, then right hand under. Back and forth. So even MORE impressive.
I'm going to preface this and say that I'm not at all taking anything away from Neil when I say this, as I'm a huge NP/Rush fan....but as a drummer, crossovers really aren't hard to do. They look great...they're flashy...it's a real easy way to impress everyone, but they're not at all hard to play. I was 14 years old and saw Neil do them in concert on the Hold Your Fire tour...I was doing them the proficiently the next day after practicing them for about an hour. Getting them up to speed took a few days.
Go Tony Go😅
Neil Peart was the king of rock and roll drummers for 50 years!!! Rest in peace professor!!!
The Professor. Take note. There will never be another.
Imagine being a 15-year-old school band drummer and going to your first concert and seeing this guy. This was in 1982. I was lucky enough to see them another 14 times through the years. Always incredible.🔥🙏
I’m right there with you. Saw them at the Moving Pictures tour, back in high school. Then saw them for every other tour and would hit the road and see them two weeks later. Saw them at the last show in Vegas for my birthday. Bitter sweet show.
Try YYZ live in Rio see 60,000 fans sing to an instrumental 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks so much for the reaction and admiration. It touches my heart that Neil's fan base is growing.
You see lots of fireworks on stage with Neil, but the thing that comes out is just so damn musical. He always plays with phrasing and nuance. He was a great musician who happened to be a drummer. RIP.
Neil was essentially a professional athlete, but with wonderful lyricism and perfect rhythm.
When you’re keeping one time signature with your feet and an entirely different time signature with your hands… at the SAME TIME… you are a badass.
Agreed. Always astounded me, that ability. I can only imagine it's like a form of ambidextrous?. Amazing.
he in this video has up to 6 different time signatures if you listen. it is close to the 180 reach around he does.
And now you see why they call him the professor no one plays the drums better than Neil Peart. God bless his precious soul.
The Professor, The GOAT, RIP Neil, best ever in my opinion. Great reaction by the way!!!
Definitely the GOAT. This was my favorite drum solo live hands down and I've seen my share of bands. Peace out ✌️ ☮️
One of the greatest to ever do it…
In the 80s he had a spherical set and would stand up and play over his head, spin around in the chairs, and use electronic keypads to play ALL the instruments in the song! The greatest technical rock drummer of all time!
The greatest stick handler of all time
is no greatest.many greats but its too subjective
Wayne Gretzky high on that list too.
@@kdbadk Both great Canadians
My girlfriend is better 😏
@@WaylonHayes-nf1tj shes a master stick handler
Peart is considered to be one of the best, if not the best rock drummers of all time. Its hard not to agree...
"You ain't tired?!" He's just warming up 😁
That's why he's the goat God Rest his soul he is sorely missed
Always loved the big band feel at the end, RIP Neil
buddy rich the goat of big band drum sound.
"your favorite drummers, favorite drummer"
I imagine drummers watching Neil for the first time have one of two reactions, either "Damn! I've GOT to practice more!" or "Crap. Time to learn the bass, I'll never be that good!" Lol
Rest in Peace !! Thank you
Anyone that reacts to RUSH and / or Buckethead gets subbed immediately. These guys are beyond amazing and I feel so very fortunate to have seen them live more than i can recall. Thanks for the upload and reaction.
The Professor. The result of crossing a librarian, a poet and Einstein with an octopus.
RIP 🙏🙏
This man was unbelievable, he didn’t even seem human. His drum solos were the pinnecle of every show. I saw them live on every tour since Permenant Waves, 1980 and his drum solos were always incredible, but somehow he topped his own solos each year. The man was already considered the best rock drimmer since their 2112 album, in 1976.
Most musicians would just stay there, but Peart was never happy with his playing, so he had the humility to seek out jazz legend Freddie Gruber for lessons. That was when he began having those Jazz parts towards the end of each solo. Peart was actually triggering those horn sounds himself.
That’s because Neil just wasn’t a drummer. He was a true percussionist.
Not only did he show...he matched the dancing in the old movies! Professor of Beats, Thank you! GREAT VIDEO!❤
My day is going great , thanks for asking , I hope your day is as good. For starters RUSH has been my favorite band since 1974 , I'm 56 years old. It warms this old heart when I see younger generations listening to and enjoying the classic old school bands. RUSH has been making music for 40 years , it's a very deep rabbit hole but I think that you can handle it. Please dive in head first. Great video thank you for making it I look forward to the next one.
Neil did not feel that this was one of his best performances as he was dealing with having the flu at the time. 🤯
To check out a couple more solos from him.
Malignant Narcissism from the Snakes and Arrows tour
Where's my thing/ Here it is live in Dallas
Cheers
I would add his performance on the David Letterman show as well, and maybe his Buddy Rich tribute at the Cotton tail club.
For instrumentationals I suggest YYZ and La Villa Strangiato
Thanks for honoring my hero bro. Moved me 😎
"He just turned 180!" This was the 30th Anniversary tour. Neil was 52 or 53 at the time. :)
Not a drum solo, but an instrumental, you might enjoy YYZ live in Rio. Geddy said it was written as a "bass & drum extravaganza".
Also, the live video of Xanadu, especially if you want to see an extravagant drum kit. This was back in the early days, when digital percussion wasn't available.
Just a quick note that the Big Band Jazz bit at the end is a Count Basie tune called "One O'clock Jump". Neil did that tune on the Burning For Buddy sessions.
Neil, John Bohnam, Buddy Rich and Danny Carey are the Worlds NEXT LEVEL Drummers....Thats Buddy Rich in the video clip during the Swing portion of the Solo....Neil`s Tribute to Buddy!
Keep in mind he is in his 50s here
It's not as bad as you think. No being in my late 60s, playing in a band does start to hurt, but stuff is only beginning to slow down. You just get a lot more efficient at it! Our drummer is 73 and still kicks ass.
@@nathanwahl9224 some some can do it some slow down , But still to play at this energy for three hours is tough on any one any age
Oh, and this was in the middle of a 3 ½ hour show. After Neil's solo he got a little time to rest up while Dirk (Geddy) and Lerxst (Alex) do an acoustic version of the song "Resist".
My wife and I saw a couple of shows on the Time Machine tour. Our kids were with us for the show at the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington. It sits along the Colombia river and it is the most incredibly beautiful venue I have been to.
FYI. Neil started this drum solo from ending of the Mystic Rythms, which that song required his back drum kit, that his his electrict drum kit, his percussion board is on his right, then he hits a certain percussion tab to turn the drum kit back to the acaustic side of the kit which is considered his front kit, that he plays a majority of his drums for about 95% of his songs.!!! Any time you see Neil play the drums with the percussion on the left side he is at his front drum kit.!!
Neil does it all...percussion, power, musicality, arrangement!
Rush was that rare band , everything they recorded on their albums , they could play live without any backing tracks or other musicians ( Geddy Lee , Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart ). I was fortunate to see them in concert several times 🙂
I'm recently disabled and about to be homeless. My son and I are the only members of our family still alive and no friends willing to help, and there's no resources in this area for help. So I seriously don't think it'll be alright. I do appreciate that you care enough about people to try and help them.
On top of being the best drummer I ever seen he is always one the best song writers, producer, director etc etc etc
And to add in the perspective of, this was a break in the middle of a Rush concert, and he was in his 50s at the time. I'm in my 50s now and am exhausted just watching it lol. RIP Neal 🙏 you're loved and missed.
He wrote the lyrics for 95% of their songs too
Most drum solo's at a concert people go for a quick beer or bathroom break. When Neil performed his drum solo's or more like a composition, NOBODY MOVED. Even in his younger days his kit was so big they had to physically lift him and then lower him behind it....RIP Professor and thank you...🇨🇦🙏
He’s pretty good. 😂The best of the best.🖖🤘✌️🥁🥁🥁#RIPNEP
Great Reaction as always! I knew it would blow your 🤯 mind! Still gets me everytime! R.I.P Neil!
you just watched the best ever
He hit this every night. For a 60-year-old man, at this time of recording, that is almost supernatural
Always a treat to watch the 'younger' generation watch this solo, and see the look of shock on their face! Nice reaction, and if you decide to go down the Rush rabbit hole, you'll find so many amazing beats and fills amongst a group of 3 master musicians! You won't be disappointed!! And btw, Neil was almost 60 years old at the time!! lol
"Exit, Stage Left" The Moving Pictures Tour. But any tour, Neil just killed it
RIP Neil.
In an elite group of drummers, no doubt in my mind in the top 5 of all time, and his ode to Buddy & the Big Band Era was Awesome!
Welcome to the wonderful land of Pearth. There is no place else like it. Never has been. Never will be again. To say that he's the GOAT is actually an understatement. This is who the term Rock God describes. There are professional drummers put there making good money who aren't a tenth the talent of the man you just witnessed
Pronounced PEERT…
The end is a tribute to Neil’s favorite Drummer-Buddy Rich
Your reaction was top tier! I enjoyed it very much, thank you!
People come to rush but really want to see Neal cause he is the concert RIP gone way to soon
One of the best reaction to this.😂😂❤❤thanks. RIP Professor Neil 😢
was lucky enough to have seen him/them several times. including the first US tour, and the last.
He was way into his career when he reached out to a drumming teacher who taught him the overhand/underhand technique. That snare part in the middle was likely a tribute to that teaching.
That last section was him drumming along with the Buddy Rich Band and "One O'Clock Jump". There's another video of him playing that piece as part of a Buddy Rich tribute performance. More than worth watching. RIP Professor.
Omg! I freaking love your face! He was truly amazing.
After Buddy Rich Neil Peart the greatest two ever
Just to let you know, he triggers the horns with the electronic pads. I have no idea how he remembers which pads to hit. He's a genius!
I subbed literally because you said he couldn't hit all those drums😂. Cheers
Best drummer EVER!!!!!
Peart is pronounced like "dear" with a "t" on the end.
I saw Rush in 1977 and in 2007 , BOTH AWESOME SHOWS !!🔥😍🥁🐐
❤😂🎉 Neil Peart🌍🌎🌏❤️🎹🎶🎵🙏❤️
It’s pronounced “peert.” As Geddy once put it “ear, with a p in front and a t at the back”
Asks for 300-400 likes, now at 550 and counting in one day. Rush/Peart fans representing!
The 'front' half of his kit, where he started off, was electronic/digital, and the back half (when it rotates and he turns around) is the traditional/analog drums. What I've always loved is that as monstrous as that kit is.. not a bit of it is for aesthetics. He used every piece in it, to create these masterpieces.
Hey yeah!!!! Back up chest out chin high. When you are the best, you are bulletproof. He had flu on this one. HE HAD FLU!!!
That ending was a tribute to the big band era particularly at it's peak in the early 1940s
Even into his later years, he was still taking lessons from other drummers. He was a sponge of knowledge and always wanted to get “better.” Although he was mostly noted for progressive rock, he was also a huge fan of jazz and swing music (hence the ending of that solo.) Those feet you saw were in ballet shoes. He wore them to get a better “feel” for all the pedals and triggers in his kit. I was only fortunate enough to see Rush live 6 times but every time was unbelievable- and usually after his solos, I felt a little dizzy and had to sit down…
Youre gonna watch this more than once. 😂 the GOAT ❤ I saw them twice in concert, and one show of their final tour. 😢
Thats a drum solo heart and soul enjoy my generation music i love it real music 🎉😅😅😅😅
The Drummer of all time! The Professor Neal Peart, RIP! Got to see RUSH in The Metro Center, (Power Windows Tour) In Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada . Great Video!😀👍👍👌✌
This was halfway through a 3 hour show. He just took you through a history of drumming. From the African drum time signatures, to rock, to marching band, to modern day and back to big band and jazz. Saluting Buddy Rich and all those greats. Even throwing in the xylophone part of "Pieces of Eight" that he wrote decades ago and introduced in one of his solo's (1987 I believe). great reaction. keep up the great work. Welcome to Rush Rabbit Hole.
Neil wasn't a drummer. He was percussionist extraordinaire
"You ain't tired?!". He was in his 50's, had the flu and was 2+ hours into a 3 hour set.
Great reaction to the GOAT.
Check out Neil Pearts drum solo COTTONTAIL
You have the best username. This is the 3rd or fourth channel I have seen you comment in. Habibis first I think.
@ThePelagicHermit it is an old nick. Most people base who I am by my nick. I never been to a Prom and I am not a Lesbian , but people believe what they want to.
Best drummer/percussionist of all time...period. Also best lyricist...hands down.
he's up there, but not the best ever.
@@jowsmith1904 The best...no one else compares.
Please play MALIGNANT NARCISSISM/DE SLAGWERKER in my opinion it's even better plus you get some crazy base 😊❤🇨🇦 Snakes and Arrows Tour
The BEST😮
My favorite drum solo from Neil is where is my thing here it is
We have lost the Best Drummer .... Love you Neil !
Many Great solos.
Being a multi-instrumentalist myself and with drums being one of the instruments that I play, Neal Peart is a super great drummer, and he's my second favorite drummer. My first favorite drummer is the same as Neal Peart's favorite drummer, who happens to be the great jazz drummer Buddy Rich. Neal played a session with Buddy Rich's old band, and also did a drum solo tribute to Buddy Rich as well.
I feel that Neil is #1. I’ve seen him live. But that last section …. Full Jazz. Is there more of that? Please all?!
dont forget ....Neil wrote a lot for Rush. This type of talent wont be matched.
You can check out the whole band doing their mastery if you look up the live videos for YYZ or Working Man. Rush was only a three man band, but each were MASTERS at their crafts.
For another crazy good drum solo, try Leave That Thing Alone/The Rhythm Method from their 1997 show at Toronto's Molson Amphitheatre. Cheers from Toronto!
🥁 🥁 🔥 🔥
Brother Jay!! Love you, man!!!
He did have two kicks, he’s definitely one of the greats. The big band sound was homage to Buddy Rich, one of Neals greatest influences.
