      You did make a mistake in the application of the resin .
      You didn't preload the syringe with pressure ( ON the windscreen ) you applied to syringe already set so no pressure with applied.

    I just used this kit on my 23 year old Chrysler which got a classic bullseye chip. Similar to professionals I preceded the application by holding a 30in vacuum with my HVA/C vacuum pump for 20 minutes in order to extract all traces of moisture from inside the chip. I had to do this because the damage happened on a winter's day with lots of snow, sleet and ice impacting the chip before I could get to this repair in a dry area. Its winter in Canada now so little sun and the outdoor is too cold to do this outside so did this in my garage and used a UV flashlight. I also followed two pro tips: after filling with resin, warm the glass from underneath with a hair dryer and rap the area below with your knuckles to encourage the resin to thoroughly flow into the cracks. The main chip is now invisible, however there is still a tiny scruffy area where the stone hit. If you have left over resin, you can add a drop to that spot and cure it again in the sun.

    For anyone else who is curious, you can re-use the plastic seal and epoxy on smaller nicks like the one at 1:00. Just use the tack to clear any glass and start the process from 11:10, did this on about 5 nicks with the leftover epoxy and it worked amazing.

    Primary purpose of the kit is to seal the cracks so that it can't expand and make a minor repair that costed 10-14 dollars, for the kit, into a 700-1000 dollar windshield replacement. Hiding the chip/crack, or even making it smaller is an added bonus from the repair kit.

    If you are on the fence whether to have this done professionally or not ,take my advice and do it yourself. Just paid $85 to fix a chip that was 1 inch . It is now 3/4 . The only difference in the two methods is the guy drilled a hole with a Dremel tool halfway through the glass before starting which probably was the reason it still shows.

    I've have just successfully used the permatex system for the second time after 1 good permatex last year and having 2 versachem kits that are basically the same components (my versachem had all the same parts except differently colored 2 sided tape, no pin, no razor blade, no alcohol swab which cost $16.99 vs this kit for 15.99)
    I have noticed that peeling and applying the colored backing side to the windshield first seemed to have a more tacky glue than the paper side which I left up to apply the pedestal to. If you run your finger across the end of the tab, whichever backing is more difficult to remove is probably best down to the glass. . .IHMO

    from watching all the bubbles coming out you didn't have a complete seal and lost the vacuum before pressurizing it to force the resin in. Only a few bubbles should come out as there is so little air in the crack and fixture. It needs the vacuum to pull the resin all the way in for an almost undetectable fix. I always put a bead of silicone around the edge of the fixture and where the syringe mates after attaching with the double sided tape seal to make a good seal (the silicone does not need to cure to seal) It should bubble for just a few seconds, if it continues to bubble it is not sealed. I also put a drop of oil on the rubber plunger seal from the plunger side for better vacuum holding.

    • @crazedmonk8u
      @crazedmonk8u Před rokem

      Also to add onto this, i just used the kit and if you have a good seal, do not push the syringe down too far! I went past the first indention and the air pressure was too much, popped the whole seal off, resin leaked everywhere. my crack was small enough to allow me to still fill it up even after losing most of the resin but don't risk it!

    About to do this myself g ot 2 lil chips from rocks they ben there 3 yrs never addressed them but just bought this same or similar kit to try it , The syringe is just to pull out the air? Not to push the resin in ? That part confused me I thought after the resin was in you'd use the syringe to force it into the hole but looks the opposite you just pull it to get air out? Odd,,If it works on my windshield may try my ipod next . By the way any info on the black rubber mold that is between the windshield and car itself ? Half my rubber is off tried glueing it 3x still pops off in coule days , any advice on that be great too

      Air does get into the crack. The black you see is trapped air. Air comes out, resin goes in. Otherwise you risk cracking the windshield if you dont let the air out first and try to push the resin in.
